So a bunch of old sierra adventure titles popped onto steam today. Notably all the Phantasmagoria, Police Quest and Gabriel Knight games. Also Arcanum.

You'd be in danger of playing a videogame for yourself and forming a personal opinion, instead of taking commonly-held beliefs for granted and relying on the judgement of others, which means you won't fit in on the internet any more.
Make a choice between the bitter redpill, or carry on memeing with the blue.

Is there a big difference between the PC Engine models? I bought PC Engine Duo and is it worse than the Duo R?

Original duos just need cap replacements sooner than most other electronics would but it's the same hardware otherwise. Don't listen to duo-r memers
>>
>>3461509
This. Get them done by a professional if you're not good though. It's really easy to fuck things up when the caps are already on their way out.
>>
>>3461483
No just get the caps replaced, same exact hardware.

Anybody else played this? Did you like it? I come from loving Chulip and Chibi-Robo so I might be biased, but I liked it a lot. I wish artsy games were more like this, creative and colorful.

I wish the generic "action" button and the talk one were the same instead of the attack/eat one, and also can't help but feel the tapir/pig phase was disappointing and confusing. The sound design was a bit annoying at times as well. But other than that I enjoyed it a lot. Really quirky, original and beautiful game. I got really endeared to some of those critters.

>those little guys who didn't like the rain
>those long legged doofuses that actually looked for you to play tag
>those small snail dweebs who come to sleep with you at night in the beach place
>those sad elongated pelicans
>the octopus plant guy that helps your species in the savannah and evolves with you at the end

I also like how the music was sparsely used, it made the moments with it all the more memorable.

Im playing plane shooters for the dreamcast for the past week.
Played ZeroGunner 2,Fast Striker and Sturmwind.
I think it a huge shame that this console was the end of SEGA considering they stuck to their true arcade core and feel and people failed to recognize good games.
Thats why we have $60 waking simulators, half assed games and publishers that fight to become the next AAA overnight.

That's great, anon, but this thread is about a game called "Lack of Love" (L.O.L.), a very weird game about evolving by establishing beneficial relationships with other lifeforms, for the Dreamcast. It's by the makers of Moon RPG Remix Adventure and some of the people who'd go to make Chibi Robo, Chulip or Tingle's Rosy Rupee Land. I wasn't saying the DC is underappreciated. I guess, it might be, but certainly not here in /vr/. But I understand the confusion.

To an extent. His surname has never been referenced in any other work, so it may have been a fabrication by the localization team.

Why didn't anyone tell me how good this game is?
>can play as Lolo or Lala
>nice graphics and cutscenes

The only bad things were the repetitive music and the boss fights being too easy.

I think about 2/3s of the way through, some of the dungeons got too hard for me. I enjoyed them, but I had to really sit down and think some through, usually ones that were time sensitive where I had to use an egg for floating on water or lava.

Ok anon one night you are woken up with a gun pressed against your head. Your attacker brings you to your tv where a NES is setup up. To live you need to beat a game without dying once.

Your choices are:

battletoads

Top gun

Ninja Gaiden

Ghosts n Goblins

Mega Man 1 or 2

Contra

No cheats, exploits, or shortcuts like warp whistle.

You die one time you get shot in head.

Replacement cables, has anyone used any modern replacement cables for the saturn specifically, have you had any problems? I need a new power and av cable because mt dad threw the old ones away, where is a good place to get them?

That's the best third party Saturn cable I know of, better than the early official cables (less noise), about on par with the later official ones.

For power, you can use any figure 8 cable.

What if Nintendo kept the top-down formula? What if, instead of OoT, Link Between Worlds was released on the N64? Would the Legend of Zelda franchise be changed forever as we know it, or would Ocarina be released eventually anyways?

We live in the real world, so there's no need to entertain such hypotheticals. Look to the future, not the past unless there's something to learn from it. Which is not the case in this instance.
>>
>>3461007
If A Link Between Worlds came out, people would be a lot more pissed since it's very much a direct sequel with the exact same overworld, something the previous iterations did not do.
>>
Wasn't there a LTTP or Oracle romhack that was a complete overhaul to mimic Ocarina?

So I got this game for $20. Started it up and immediate had to grind 3 levels before I could proceed past the 2nd screen in the first dungeon. So will this game be challenging like this the whole time, or will the difficulty subside after I start getting good gear?

I'm enjoying it so far though, controls are very smooth.

Difficulity keeps being the same. Just remember that if you can't get any further you either have to level up or buy better gear.
>>
>>3460891
Cool, I was looking at the game manual and there are only like 5 spots on the map. Is the game pretty short?
>>
>>3460909
It's on the shorter side for sure, but then again, Ys games tend to be.

Also, protip for leveing:
Once you get to the cave section fo the fire level there are infintly respawning fire bird like enemies, position yourself to where you can kill one then just tape down the attack button. Go watch a movie, or to sleep or something, come back to max level.

Ok everyone stop being positive for a second: what were the fucking WORST consoles of each generation that you owned?

Keep in mind that on /vr/ the only 6th gen console you can mention is the Dreamcast, so you may be forced to admit that it's shit for once in your life in this thread.

Worst I owned was the Xbox. I hated the controller and the exclusives it had didn't appeal to me.

Your move, OP.

The Sega Saturn. It had some good games but man did the PS1 make it look like crap, though at least it had the far superior versions of X-men/Marvel vs Street Fighter.

Weak bait is weak.

I don't think I've owned a console I didn't like. Every one has had at least a handful of games I loved.

How do you feel about the potential for VR technology to revive certain dead genres, most notably the light gun game genre?

I for one think that a game like Time Crisis or even Lucky and Wild could see an interesting rebirth in the form of a VR-enabled experience. I've only tried one VR shooting game, a Vive demo game where you shoot at flying drones. It worked well, but the problem for me was following enemies on the system. As they could go all around you, it was hard to track where the attacks were coming from, and I had difficulty using the 3D radar they added, though that was probably due to not having enough time to really experience it. I also found it difficult to aim, despite the presence of sights on the virtual gun. I'm sure that could be worked around as needed though (either by programming in more lenient hit detection or by good old-fashioned practice).

If I were making one, I'd probably make it more central viewing (not so much turning all around you) just to be more lenient on the amount of real motion needed from the player. I feel that this would help not only for playing at home (where obstacles could exist to effective room motion or even just turning around in place) but also to alleviate potential neck pain from looking around too violently.

I'd also be interested in seeing a 'Virtual Arcade' which had full recreations of light gun machines.

Any opinions on these matters?

If the Wii couldn't bring them back this won't either. Especially not without a real "gun"

It'll be good for porn and virtual boy emulation and that's it.
The day we're able to directly connect our brain and nervoud system to a machine and vice versa, we'll be able to experience genuine Virtual Reality, for now it's just a fancy virtual boy. Sure it'll look great, even realistic, but you'll still feel it's fake and it won't be as fun as you think to do as a regular thing. VR will be dismissed (AGAIN) as a gimmick.
>>
>>3461193
I don't think you're giving the level of tech we have now a fair shake. I don't think we're going to see a resurgence in light guns, but we are going to see a huge experimentation phase as we figure out what works and what doesn't.

It's the same old story you see with tons of /vr/ gear: someone develops something novel, and it takes a while for people to develop for it. VR feels like we're past the point of developing the tech, and now we just need someone to develop a killer app. Well, that and needing to get past the point of everything needing to be 1st person and focus more on a disembodied POV.
