I never really hear people talk about this console.
Are there any good Master System games?
>>2804114
Oh, okay then.
Transbot is cool. I also used to play Hang On all the time too.
Yeah quite a few. It's library isn't on the same level as the NES, obviously, but it is a cool little system. Zillion, Phantasy Star, Wonder Boy III, Golden Axe Warrior, Sonic 1 (not just a port of the MD game) and SEGA's Disney games are all excellent and well worth owning.
What the shitfuck is this controller?
Looks like a standard original Xbox controller.

looks like the ItHurtsToLive64.

These are always fun, don't think we've had one in a while.
Describe games you can't remember the names of, others will try and guess. Be as descriptive as possible.
There's one on right now.

Does anyone know of a game where you shoot someone with a gun?
>>2804170
sheriff
This game has the absolute worst fucking beginning, jesus christ.
I picked it up since I started Lufia 1. Will play 2 after I'm done 1, but I wanted to test 2 out since I bought it. I played a bit of the beginning.
>go to shop
>get slapped by blue haired girl
>immediately able to play
Nice. Not sure what to do in town, but I save at the church and try to leave. This old man tells me to go to a southern dungeon, sure I'll do that. As soon as I get in, I go through the most atrocious fucking tutorial ever. This fucking half dead geezer wouldn't shut the fuck up about such obvious things. Is there where gaming started to go downhill? Why did they feel the need to go so in depth with the teachings? Lufia 1 plastered tutorials on the wall, and even if they were obscure, the game was not hard to understand.
Gonna go back to Lufia 1. Going to keep my file saved after that stupid dungeon in L2 so I don't have to go through that stupid tutorial shit again. What a fucking joke.
I think it's cool that Lufia 2 is a prequel though.

When will /vr/ ever get over this thing where they try and old game expecting it to blow every expectation out of the water and then make salty posts about how much it sucks when it doesn't?
>>2803501
He'll probably stop it when people stop praising games as the second coming of Jesus. This is what happens when games get hyped. It's not unreasonable to expect a game to knock your socks off when it has a stellar reputation, which Lufia 2 does have.
A better question is when will people like you get over making contentless posts to complain?
What are your favorite shmup ships?
>>2803060
No matter how many I play Vic Viper is always my favorite. I just think it's a perfect looking ship.
Is this game good?
No, it's kiddie disney garbage. Easy as fuck.
>>2802841
>kiddie

Tried the game a lot of times, always got lost at the very beginning and eventually got bored to death how do I get into it.
Go!
Hell yeah, COW Boys of Moo Mesa is really fun
Baraduke for sure, it's been one of my favorites since Namco Museum on PS1, but all it's known for now is that Baraduke got pumped up by DigDug and shot Mr.Driller out her vag.
Biomechanical Toy
Alligator Hunt
How does /vr/ feel about the first Blood Omen? I got pretty far when it came out but never finished because I lost my copy while moving. Is it worth going back to? I mostly want closure but haven't bothered checking to see if it has aged well.
Great game. Both are good for the story but the first one has better gameplay imo.
>>2802608
Mechanically it's a decent Zelda imitator, much darker of course. I don't think the combat and dungeons are that interesting (puzzles are mostly just hitting switches and avoiding spikes) but it's got so much style it's still cool.
The voice acting for the first LoK is still GOAT in my book. I loved how there were voiceovers for every item, new enemy, major locations, and sometimes just as you're wandering around in the world.

>Everything that is top down+fantasy = Zelda clone!!
Stop this shit already.
recommend me a game like DQ2. I want a game with some non linearity in it but still with some clues. I also don't mind grinding a little bit. Also I want a game where if you wander the wrong way you get your ass handed to you by overpowered monsters. I heard every DQ from 3 on are linear and I have played 1 through 3 already. Would it be a good idea to try a wizardy or ultima game?
OP here I think DQ2 is my ideal game. Enough challenge and non linearity but still manageable , played it on NES 3 years ago. Ive tried FF4 and FF6 and I think they are shit
Ultima sound like a good next step for you. I guess the games are more about exploring than fighting though so keep that in mind. Not sure Ultima is the series I am thinking of but if it is then leveling up actually end up hurting you in the long run as there is very little point in it.
Wizardry is pure dungeon crawling. Ultima doesn't have much in the way of overwhelming enemies in the overworld.
Might and Magic might fit.
Retro games that you think had some interesting ideas that were never really seen again in future generations.
Pic is Sentient which was actually a pretty meh-tier RPG/Adventure game that came out in 1997. I've been looking at it again recently and its 'thing' was the player was able to communicate with pretty much everyone in the game (in a traditional sort of 'ask about X/Y' sort of way), but with a little facial expression in the bottom corner which let you go about your business in a jovial, sad, angry (etc) mood, which would have an effect on the NPC response. Every NPC would also do this, and the fucking nightmare fuel mid-90s character models would literally smile or frown at you depending on their demeanour.
Unfortunately the application was clunky as hell and reviewers at the time panned it. I've not seen many games attempt anything similar since.
I think the advent of 3D environments in games with the Saturn/N64/PS1 meant that it was a time of more scope for creativity as developers got to grips with what this new technology would actually mean for games. I also think we're going through something similar now with the availability of tools for basically any guy with a text editor and some coding knowledge to make an indie game.
Also Three Lions which came out around the time of World Cup 98. Different from FIFA and ISS Pro in that it did away with shit commentators completely and had the manager of your team shouting stuff on the sidelines. There were different languages for different teams, too (even though they only had around half a dozen phrases).
It was a kickass football game too. Since then FIFA has been the mold for pretty much every game in the genre and commentary is now mandatory, no matter how shit.
Hybrid Heaven and its unique semi-turn based fighting/wrestling combat system.
Starship titanic tried including conversational AI, kinda like chatterbot.
Nice and well drawn humans on the cover!

Why is "Role Playing Card Game" in English if it's only a Japanese game?
>>2801556
Japan loves to write random things in English or stick random English words or sentences into songs. It's kind of the equivalent of English using French words or phrases in an attempt to sound fancy.

Is the cover of an art book good enough for you?
If I were to make a game for a 6th and under-generation system, how difficult would it be compared to using something like Game Maker or Unity? Could it be done as a first project, or would it require significant prior experience?
>>2800342
Let me ask you this: do you have a solid understanding of how computers function from a computer architecture point of view? Do you understand how to map a C program on to assembly? Do you know what interrupts are and how they are used?
If you aren't intimately familiar with concepts like these, fret not, but you need to set the bar a little lower. I would suggest something like GameBoy or SNES.
You can probably find a compiler for a MIPS R3000A, but you will probably need to frequently dip down into assembly to poke at things that don't map nicely to higher level languages.
Also, I warn you away from 6th gen and on because programming is one half of making a game, but generating content is the other half, and you'll need tools to generate anything more than a polygon cube efficiently.
Btw, how much about 3d computer graphics do you know?
Way more difficult.
Unity is great for dev because it manages an absolutely fuckload of stuff for you and has an easy and user-friendly interface.
The idea of making an NES, SNES or PS1 game is admirable, and I've thought about it (although more Neo-Geo MVS).
The issue is you need to know the architecture well, and a lot of stuff wasn't well documented.
You'd also be coding in assembly or -at best- C in all the old consoles. So you need to be well versed in those, and its way more difficult then C# for Unity.
You can also get around a lot of stuff in Unity by just.. brute force since modern computers are so powerful that you can just force stuff to work, where you absolutely have to use tricks and really optimize it for older consoles.
The tldr; is stick to unity.
>>2800342
Extremely difficult and exhausting, especially if you've never programmed anything before. It would be fun and totally worth it because I think old systems and all their nuanced limitations are the best, but it has to fit into your schedule
If you go the Game Maker/Unity route, you can jump straight in. If you're planning to make your game in Game Maker first and then make an old console version later then best of luck to you.
>That's one of my dreams in life, but work and staring at the ceiling in a desperate attempt to get sleep is starting to absorb all the free time I have. I don't mean to be bleak but things don't turn out so great for everyone and they end up settling for a life of mediocrity. Try to have fun while you still can.
anyone still play this game?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bs5QGN-zhwM&list=PLDA19CA4E3C2BE676
GOAT soundtrack
I still play it from time to time. I always liked playing to accomplish something pretty obscure, like run a household with no full time employment, or master each skill.
I recently made a house with 2 parents and six kids. Without cheating, I built a small house, got the parents jobs, and purchased enough decent furniture for everyone. Then I put the game on fast forward to see how long it takes for each Sim to get fired/flunk out of school, fall asleep on the floor, or for the household to go bankrupt and eventually starve.
I got bored with drowning them and setting them on fire a long ass time ago.
Never had a computer powerful enough to run it, which is a shame. How much did I miss out on, friends?
Other than the sequel
Goemon's Great Adventure comes to mind
>>2799719
I still have yet to complete this game.
I got to this giant bird, and dropped off at some weird overview map, and lost interest at the time.
How far did I get, and does it stay good?
Wario Land 3 maybe?
