What's /tg/'s opinion on the Dreadhold?

I find the price so ridiculously high for models that simply don't work without a full set that I can't even assess the model on it's own.

I need your help /tg/. I need a system for mech combat (think mechs like heavy gear, humanoid, about the size of buildings and about as mobile as people instead of the hyper speed zipping around shit you see in armored core/gundam). A Starter army that you get with buying the game, you would need to select what starter army BTW.

Then keep everything as it is, Buy new models as transactions and paint them with a virtual painting thing.

What games do you enjoy with persistent squad change over a series of games?
For example, in Mordheim and Necromunda, your squaddies not only level up and gain skills, but also receive injuries that effect how they fight. I really enjoy that sense of emergent narrative from the random (and tactical choice driven) elements, but it is hard to find folks to play Necromunda with because the models for it no longer exist (unless you count proxies). What other traditional games (miniature and otherwise) do you folks know of/enjoy along those lines? Any vidya game suggestions along those lines while you are at it?

This is really interesting to me, even though I don't have much to contribute.

Frost Grave does this, in a limited degree, with wizards establishing bases that alter the army sometimes, wizard injuries, leveling and spell gain/selling.

Xcom for sci-fi vidya that does this so well I cream myself, with permadeath.

The blackboard series has been enjoyable so far, dnd mixed with xcom kindanotreally but it's squad based turn based tactical with leveling.

The Mordheim PC game which was recently released is a pretty faithful reinterpretation of the tabletop game. It has really in depth squad building and character customization, as well as a mix of random skirmish maps and story missions. It's also brutally hard, and is utterly unafraid of murdering or crippling your guys. It's a bit pricey, so I might wait for a sale, but I got it cheap in Early Access and I'm kinda loving it.

What are some things that could the way the world is dramatically? Some things to make stuff set on Earth a bit more interesting. Alternate history or predicted future, all things are cool.

Like the Atlantropa project, a series of dams and canals to drain the Mediterranean 200 meters and gain new land for Europe and Africa, coupled with a series of dams in Africa to fill the Chad basin, flooding a lot of Africa, creating a naval route from the Mediterranean to central Africa, and using this water to irrigate the Sahara.

The idea was first conceived in the 1920s by a German architect Herman Sörgel, and promoted by him until his death in the 1950s.

So, you all hate That Guys, but have you ever been one? Here's my story:

>later that night, when we're in camp
>i quietly steal the amulet
>rogue notices, soon entire party chases after me
>quickly shout "I WANT TO BE THE LITTLE GIRL!"

Our campaigns tend to focus on the comedic stuff, but I'll admit that that was a little out there. It was mostly the GM who described it all, with the party members saying shit like, "I stab her in the neck"

Hello all. So I'm working on my homebrew RPG. For power sources (class analogs mainly though more broad), I've been contemplating what an RPG might be like if you flipped the role of arcane and martial characters.

That is, typically in D&D, martial types are thought to do things everyone else can do, but do it better, while arcane types do things noone else can do, as well as enhancing themselves with things everyone can do.

Here, I'm thinking of having it so that anyone can use magic if they learn/find it -- as in, rituals, magic devices, scrolls, etcetera -- via skills/mind tests, arcane characters can do it better and get more bang for their buck. In contrast, martial characters would have a variety of special abilities, similar to spells in other RPGs, but typically conveyed through weapon range.

Thoughts?

Note also that arcane types could be warriors of a sort (specializing in bringing out the properties of magical weapons and armor would be suitable for an arcane character), and not all chars fall into either category. There wouldn't be cross pollination between the two power sources, however, as martial powers would be mainly as a way to make a non-magic oriented character dynamic to play.

I sort of ran a 3.5 D&D campaign like that, where the only books allowed were Expanded Psionics Handbook, Magic of Incarnum, and Tome of Battle.

Just about everybody had at least one psionic power through the Hidden Talent feat, but only a rare, elite few had access to maneuvers.

It was pretty fun. The players ended up using an audience of drugged slaves as bait to draw out an insane opera singer so they could kick her shit in.

Its not so much that I want to emulate 3.x or whatever, but it does give one ideas how different things would be if arcane and martial used the opposite design concepts.

I was also thinking resurrection and teleportation rituals would be researched per target.
