It's extraordinarily good for playing board games, especially board games with many cards and expansions, like Arkham Horror or Munchkin.

I use Roll20 for DND but all the utilities are on TS if you want to use them - and they're in 3D.

Also fun to dick around with games like Life or Pictionary.

I use it. IMO, Tabletop Sim works best for simpler board games. It's fantastic for things like Red Dragon Inn, King of Tokyo, Duels of the Battle Wizards, basically anything that doesn't involve a lot of components and precise positioning.

As you start adding more components, it gets more and more fiddly. Still possible, but less ideal. You can play Battlestar Galactica on it, but it involves a decent amount of work, for example.

I wouldn't use it for RPGs or card only games, those are both better served by specific clients like Roll20 or OCTGN. But for board games where the tactility of components can be a factor, Tabletop Sim is great.

Magical Realm Thread: Torture Edition

The Rules:
Same system as Become The Dragon Quest. If you don't know what that is, it's best of three d20 rolls. I name a stat that sums up what you're trying to do, and if I don't name a relevant skill, you try to fill in the blank based on what you're trying to accomplish. “Break open the door” might be Strength based, but if you've been playing baseball after school and there's a lead pipe nearby, you could apply your Baseball skill to the roll. A 20 on the die is a crit threat, and if either of the other two rolls is 20 or higher after mods, it's a critical. A crit fail is when you have two or more 1s. So far this system has worked out well enough. We'll get into combat rules as needed, but in basic terms you have wounds, not HP, and the worse the wounds, the more penalties you accrue while doing other things.

Local baker has prepared what he calls the world's largest cake. Players go on a fairly easy retrieval mission and give the large amounts of flour, sugar, and lard to the baker. 3 days later they have to fight this mysterious 20 feet tall cake golem.

It seems he doesn't want to be seen begging for help from a shinigami, despite the severity of his own wounds. They're not mortal by any stretch of the imagination, but if left untreated they certainly could claim his life eventually.

“Well, well,” you reply, walking closer to frown down at the young quincy. “What have we here? Confident in the progress made, you went to sleep to dream. It was unfortunately and oddly restless, and you cannot recall whatever dreams took to you in the night as you found yourself untangling the kitten Diana from your hair when you woke up. Is that why you ran so hard this morning? You wonder that as you slowly walk back up to the house with intent upon going through your cool down stretches and do some upper body exercises.

What greets you beyond the door, however, is a strange coalescence of palatable scents and a curious sight. Your father stands frozen in the archway between the living room and the kitchen, his back to you and the front door as he leans in and around the corner and seems to twitch at the sight. Its at this point you leave your sneakers behind by the door and cross the room to stand next to your father and join him in his inspection of the kitchen.

As you close the distance, a cheerful and playful humming reaches your ears. Stepping quietly alongside your father, you silence a gasp. Koyomi is clad in one of mom’s aprons and is leaning over some already plated ‘meals’ on the table. You can’t quite see what she made, but the excess of trash yet cleaned up and assorted pots, pans, and tools left in a mess across the counter and near the stovetop makes you assume with full confidence that it is something horrible.

Before you can make a worried groan, your father raises a gentle hand and gestures for quiet. Following the command, you watch as your sister turns back toward the fridge as she caps and puts away a red squeeze bottle.
