Become The Vampire Quest 7

You ignore Jennifer's gaze, pretending instead that you didn't spot her in the crowd. This just seems to irritate her more, but you're all in at this point so you ride it out. A few people look your way, some cheering, a few people looking slightly jealous, and some looking pleasantly shocked. The only one who seems to be reacting truly negatively is Jennifer.

Sammy stays right by your side, blushing and using you as a shield to hide from the stares of the others. You try not to think about how her breasts are pressed right up against your arm. You try really hard. It's a bit too difficult though, and by the time you reach the front door you're particularly aware of every time she moves against you. Stephen is just outside the door, and he silently takes note of your intimate gesture with a smile, letting out a comment once you pass by him.

“I take it you didn't want her to get lost then?”

Sammy squeezes your hand gently, face bright red. You nod a little bit and smile at Stephen.

“Something like that. It's more that I didn't want to lose her.”

Stephen nods and chuckles.

“Fair enough. Well, I couldn't find Blake, so we'll be taking my car.”

He points to a minivan, a black one that looks like it should be full of elementary school soccer players and an undersexed housebound mother. Stephen smiles proudly at it.

“It's either that or the pickup truck, honestly. There's just something about driving around in a roomy car while shifted. Scares the hell out of people.”

He walks towards it, and you follow behind him.

“There's a curtain in the middle for privacy since we can't exactly set up a changing room when we shift away from home. I'll trust the pair of you not to get up to anything back there, but I'll be playing my music so I guess I'll never know.”

He presses a button and the doors unlock, heading for the driver's side while you open the door for Sammy. He wasn't joking about it being roomy; the middle row of seats has been taken out, the bench in the back as been set back in where the trunk should be, and the front seats look like they slide back a solid foot further than they were designed to. Sammy climbs in and you follow suit, closing the door.

“I don't drive as fast as my son does, but I know more of the shortcuts. We should make pretty good time.”

The driver's side door closes and the engine comes alive. It almost sounds like a sports car motor, though not as loud as Blake's car. Then the music comes on. Irish folk music, loud and boisterous but not enough to make Sammy uncomfortable. She clings to you regardless though, hugging your arm tightly. Stephen shifts into drive and the cars rolls forward, gathering speed slowly.

>Text Sammy, no unnecessary risks

The Rules:
Same system as Become The Dragon Quest. If you don't know what that is, it's best of three d20 rolls. I name a stat that sums up what you're trying to do, and if I don't name a relevant skill, you try to fill in the blank based on what you're trying to accomplish. “Break open the door” might be Strength based, but if you've been playing baseball after school and there's a lead pipe nearby, you could apply your Baseball skill to the roll. A 20 on the die is a crit threat, and if either of the other two rolls is 20 or higher after mods, it's a critical. A crit fail is when you have two or more 1s. So far this system has worked out well enough. We'll get into combat rules as needed, but in basic terms you have wounds, not HP, and the worse the wounds, the more penalties you accrue while doing other things.

Most Important Rule:
Have fun.

Hours of intense training for the better part of a standard day come and pass seamlessly upon Darth Incarnus's ship, most of which is focused upon refining your ability to block blaster shots with your saber, training you on how to safely and effectively manipulate your lightsabers with the Force, and the differences saber combat has with standard bladed combat. Before you know it Captain Kolbrun announces that you will be landing upon Dromund Kaas within the hour. Your Master raises his hand, indicating that your training will come to an end for the moment. Sweat pours from your brow and your breathing is heavy and ragged as you deactivate your two sabers and approach him. It is clear that Darth Incarnus has even higher expectations of you now that he has seen the true vein of potential within you from your sparring match.

"You have done well my apprentice. You grasp the fundamentals with ease, however I cannot stress enough that this foundation in your abilities must be strong if you are to build upon it. Now then, come with me."

He motions for you to follow and you nod quickly before following after his long strides. You are leas to the front of the ship where Captain Kolbrun is seated and you catch a glimpse of him for the first time. He is a short and stocky human, with bronze skin a shade or so darker then your own, and a thick black mustache. He smiles at you politely but remains silent as Darth Incarnus leads you to the front view port. Your eyes are met with a massive purple and green orb hanging in the sky.

Until this moment the only landscape you had ever known was barren wasteland, even in the Academy. You had heard stories of course, of vibrant greens and blues, of vast bodies of water larger then the continents of the worlds that they lay bare upon but the sight of it still boggled your mind. You stay silent as you drink in the view of this new and strange world.

"Welcome to Dromund Kaas. Your new home, and the throne of the Empire. Everything you will become begins here. What do you think of it?"

The road is quiet. Eerily quiet.

You normally don't complain. The quiet is something that you've long since enjoyed in what few moments you've been able to find it. It's just, something feels different this time.
That kind of awkward quiet which you only hear when someone is hiding something.

"Jack? Where are we going?" Louise, riding on the saddle behind you, tightens her grip around your waist. The sleeves of her new dress pop into your vision, it almost makes her look like a princess.

A princess you're keeping a terrible secret from.

You are Jack Albator, handsome traveler, fearsome hunter, and staking out on your latest adventure. You're starting ask yourself a very apt question: How did this world ever survive without you? Or at least, how did Gallete ever survive? You've only been here for a few months, and already it feels like you've spent more time saving Gallete from a pinch than you have Biscotti. Biscotti's your home nation and they haven't been in dire need once.

You loathe Catland so much.

Meanwhile, you're striking out to go save Gallete's castle from a new threat that has resided there. One that, if scouts are to be believed, is fifty feet tall with huge claws and giant wings.

"Jack? Did you hear what I said?"

-And she doesn't know about it yet.

You haven't quite thought of the right way to say 'Louise, we're going to go fight off a dragon that has taken over your house.'
A part of you feels pity that a young girl like her has to be Gallete's hero. The one that their people look up to solve their problems.

Earlier she was running naked inside of a clothing store. Three hours after that, you're taking her with you to fight a dragon.

"L-let's focus on the road Louise. Keep an eye out for us!" Yuuki chirps from the feathery beast next to us that she's riding.
She hasn't thought of a way to tell her, either.

"Yeah, if a bad guy shows up, that's ya chance to jump off and hit him with yer axe"
Cody hasn't thought of a way to tell her either.

Plus, Charlotte, her summoner and the princess of Gallete. Decided to not break the news to Louise. In fact, she demanded that Louise not go and be taken to another country while her army dealt with the problem. You ignored her of course. Mostly because you don't agree with spiriting her away from danger constantly, and because it's her time to shine as the Hero.

How were you going to tell her, anyway?

>"There's a big mean thing at your castle, we're going to go beat it up."
>"Do ye remember the story of St. George?"
>"It's.. hard to explain."
>Wait for another moment to tell her about it.

I did pick up magic after a few years again.

Even with mulligans I still have incredibly bad luck to draw a proper mix out of spells and lands. (Yes I am the guy who manages to roll below 5 the entire evening during a DnD game.)

So I thought why not split the 60 cards into two decks. One decks containing at least 40 spells and the other one containing at least 20 lands.

Whenever you interact with a deck (like drawing a card or looking at the to X cards). A player can choose the one or the other deck.

What do you think of this. Good idea bad idea?

>>
so combo deck never draw lands when they don't want to? Variance is important to the game
>>
I think there's some weeb animu card game that has a system like this.

It's a good idea if your goal is to eliminate some of the random/rng factor of Magic and try to remove some of the "feel bad" from the game

To a lot of people, that random/rng factor of Magic is just part of it. It's considered part of the game and part of deckbuilding to find the perfect balance between spells and lands.
>>
>>43774489
The game is called Force of Will. It does have a separate deck for "lands" from the rest of your cards and I think you have the ability to draw from the "land" deck every turn.

You check the time on your holopad. It was already past lights out. Even after all of these years, you still adhered to the strict scheduling of the Flight School. Early to rise, breakfast, drills, lecture, lunch, drills, lecture, dinner, free time, then lights out for about five hours. You pity the guys who had to post fire watch, at least you got some amount of sleep. Then again, because one particular instructor really had it out for you, it was a foregone conclusion that you had to take fire watch a lot. If they caught you napping during fire watch, you were flogged. And you were caught napping quite a lot.

And as a result, falling asleep is actually more difficult than flying a Starfighter. You still feel a bit of the old lash on your back, at least they had the courtesy to use regular whips instead of those Zygerrian shockwhips. You sit back on a comfortable chair, filing through the holonet, looking for anything interesting to read. Nothing catches your eye. You stopped briefly at Raxus Prime to pick up a fair amount of scrap and parts for Misri, so she could restore Sparks to effective condition. You didn’t find any functional blasters though or anything beyond… well scrap. Things go to Raxus Prime because they don’t work anymore after all.

“Sir.” Lev and R5 look over at you from their Dejarik table. “Should you not be asleep by now?” asks Lev.

“I’ll go to sleep when I want to, mum” you mutter. Lev nods, returning his attention back to the board. He moves his Mantellian Savrip forward, hoping to catch R5 off-guard and force him to corner himself for the killing blow. But when R5 instead repositions his still live Kintan Strider into the gap that Lev now created, which put R5 into winning position no matter what Lev did, Lev did not take it well. He grabbed the table. “Lev.” He stops, looking at you. “If you throw that table again, I will turn around and take us back to Raxus.”

He pauses, then stands up and grabs R5 instead. He throws him across the common room, smashing some cabinets and throwing over a table too. “Real mature,” says R5.

“Choose a better game next time,” says Lev as he heads towards the cockpit.

You shake your head, sighing as you stand up. “Pick this stuff up R5 then retire.” He calls affirmative as you step out of the common room. Before you try to head to sleep, you poke into the machine shop, and find Misri still assembling scrap metal into usable parts with the use of an arc welder and some of her patented charm. “Misri, not going to bed? We’re due for Smuggler’s Haven in the morning.”

“Nah,” she says. She looks over at you, pulling up her vestigial welding goggles. “What, is this part where you offer me your room so I can sleep comfortably and then fall in love with your gentlemanly charm?”

“Well, it would be, but you’re absolutely filthy.” Up and down, Misri was covered in spots of grease and oil. Her cheeks were painted brown and black from scraping her mucky gloves on them. Her white tank top was now a stained mess with black marks all over it. It was actually quite sexy, but you’re too tired to flirt right now. “Take a shower in the refresher then head to sleep. It’s going to be a long day tomorrow.”

“Meh.” She goes back to welding. “Just lemme finish this.”

You sigh again, walking over to her and rubbing your eyes. “What are you even building anyway?”
>>
>>43774391
[3/3]

“Reassembling a motor component for Sparks, this is important for his walker mode. It needs to be relatively tight fitting but also flexible enough for his legs to give actual motion,” she says. She shrugs, then looks up at you. “Actually, I’ve been meaning to ask you. I overheard something Erma saying something to you about your past.” Did she? You don’t rightly recall that she was even on the ship during that. She must have good hearing, as expected of a blind person you guess. “Got something to hide?”

“No,” you say. She tilts her head. “… if you’re expecting me to say it, again, no. Misri, like Erma, you’re special. But not that special. I’d really rather put it behind me than dwell on it.”

“Fair enough,” she mutters. She rubs her arm on her forehead, wiping more grease on her head and arm. “I can see you want to play the dark mysterious type. You know, that doesn’t make women want you more, it makes us think you’re a creep.”

You grunt. “Whatever. Need any help in here?”

“Nah.” She sighs, shutting the welder down and placing it on the bench next to the component.

Recently: You won your second league match against a psychic who was trying to peak in your brain. Your darker, inner self took advantage of the situation and stole your ability to mega-evolve with your Pokemon except for Raistlin.

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes or always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as it comes up.

Combat involves rolls! Once there's a clear winner, we roll for the move accuracy/crit/secondary effect. Usually it's just three 1d100s. Sometimes you can get a modifier from circumstances, so be creative! Add flair, do tricks with moves, mess with terrain, whatever!

After the match, you and your friends look around for Selina. You toss Sneasel’s Pokeball over to Vance. You’ve congratulated the little bugger a few times, but you really have to do something special for him later to show how impressed you are.

You only explain the barest of details about Selina, since time is a factor. She’s already vanished into the crowds around the arena. Vendors, trainers, fans, officials and all other sorts of people and their Pokemon talk, work, and play, creating a shifting maze.

It’s your element though. Your home town is small, but it had it’s share of alleys and crowds. You guide your friends quickly.

It’s Jeanine that leads the way to Selina, though. She’s using those crystals from the ruins. “I just looked for the most rattled aura. Speaking of,” her volume lowers, “ Kat, yours is... is...”

“It’s what?”

“Cracked? No. More like, an infection or a sickness or something. No, not like that either. I can’t explain it. It’s like an extra voice. An echo..” Her eyes fall to your bag where you keep your Pokedex. “Maybe more than one.”

Clair rolls her eyes. “Aura reading. Psh. I think I’d know if there were someone else around. What, you think Kat is haunted or something now?”

I have been for no real reason been thinking of a system that consolidates damage and accuracy in a weird way.

Defenses are arranged in "layers", and the accuracy of an attack determines which layer it strikes. Each individual die of the accuracy roll is checked against the durability of the layer to see if it damages it.

So if a 3d5 sword strikes a durability 3 layer, and the rolls are 2, 3, 2, it will inflict one point of damage on that layer. What exactly that point of damage will do is dependent on the layer, and some layers may do things even if part of an attack fails to inflict damage(like minor wounds on flesh).

Are there any interesting properties of doing things that way?
15 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Could you explain this system a little bit better? What happens if I example roll is 4, 4 and 5?
>>
One interesting property of the system is that you will never see a second session of a campaign using it, because too much math and too much rolling.
>>
>>43774066
While your example is bad, i do kinda get what your trying here. The biggest problem i forsee is having to look up and cross reference many charts; if each layer has a different chart and you did two attacks which did damage to different layers etc. Lots of finicky paperwork, thats not to say it wont work but it could bog the game down it make GMing a nightmare.

An alternate approach would be that the more success you have on the attack the more damaging the weapon is.
Ie on a d10 you need a 4 or higer to hit, if you roll a 6 the weapon does 2 points of extra damage/or increases the power of the weapon/or decreases the resistance of the target.

The damage mechanic is also quite important, if you have hitpoints or wound levels or just the damage charts

"Just so I understand. Lets go over this one more time." Captain Keel says, voice muted by the back office of the nitor post. "You went to the other side of the mountain. Small group, tried to find out what was going on. Yeah?" He says slowly, probably more for his benefit than yours. You just nod. "While doing so, your foreman, who is still technically a wanted man, and another former nitor pick up a trio of 'cattle rustlers' and lock them in a henhouse."

"Yes, after they attempted to 'secure' the bodies of the Phoenix soldiers who attacked my ranch." You say, emphasizing the last bit.

"Ok. So you fight your way back through to this side, and find out what happened. Then you wait a week before turning them over to us."

"Pretty much. We wanted to see what info we could get out of them. They refused to so much as identify themselves."

"Did they tell you they were reserves?"

"They said they were on official business, but nobody showed up to look for them."

He pauses, rolling his fountain pen between thumb and forefinger. "Ok. And in that time you didn't try and get a hold of us?"

"You weren't available. Last time we came here to report something, those oiks showed up to claim the bodies. No idea if they had accomplices." You reply.

Keel lets out a sigh before burying his face in his hands and muttering. All you can make out is a vague mention of trouble.

The dog person at the registration booth smiles as he sees you both approach. "Well well, if it isn't the Champion Couple. Lots of people have been hoping you two would be here again."

You and Goku smile and let out a little chuckle. "Heh heh, we may be parents but we're not letting that slow us down."

"Indeed, indeed." he responds with a nod. You and Goku jot your names down, the kids staring curiously at the sheets.

"Pan... tea..." your daughter mumbles, Gohan nodding in agreement. You look down and see on the Junior Division the girl's name, as well as Videl's. Heh, well, you could sense them here already, looks like they've gotten themselves signed in. Doesn't look like anyone else is on there yet, but you can sense at least the Crane School on their way.

How about you acolyte Anon give me a run down of the answers I got from my questions?

Let's start with the first question I asked:
When was the Craftworld First Encountered by the Imperium?

Yes, it told me that it came in contact with the Imperium around 4-5.000 years ago. That means it came in contact in around M35.

How about the next question acolyte? The one where I asked how it's home was? Since I know the Eldar are quite keen on putting planetairy elements inside thier ships, so what kind of biome had the craftworld?

I'm at a loss for ship design for a little sci-fi single-ship game I'm running.

Nothing as outrageous as Star Trek, more Firefly-level tech. I don't have a direct equivalent, but whatever.
Picture related, USG Ishimura from Deadspace.

I don't think I need a complete map, as in every table and chair, but I can't make up my mind about things like where what sections should go and what should be included in those sections.

That aside, space vehicles discussion?

Its important to make sure your command and control section is as far from the section you point at things to move that way as is possible without leaving it fully at the rear.

Engines could be out front, chariot style, keeping them safer from rear ambushes.

The middle area of the ship could contain the crew living quarters, cargo hold etc. It should have some turrets maybe for defence.

Life support etc should be largely central and heavily defended internally and extrernally.

Doorways should be low enough to require crouching to enter them as this gives the defenders and advantage if boarded.

What's the tech level like?

Friends and I have dabbled in and out of various card games over the years. Decided we should get into one of them. Options are Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Magic. We already have some cards for all three games. Which one should we go for, /tg/? Convince us.

yu-gi-oh is decent. no one seems to know the official rules of pokemon, but if you can find people that do that can be fun. never checked out MTG

haven't really checked out yu-gi-oh/ pokemon card games in years now though

Here's a Dropbox that's more complete than the Mediafire link

That said, it's a small independent company of literally two dudes and there are only two books, so if you like the system, toss a few bucks their way and pony up.

I basically always do my campaigns in Reason era, because it makes it more flexible, what I can and can't include.

Of course, I also have my settings utilize magic in logical ways to get effects that you normally wouldn't see until much later, technologically.

Like, getting messages to people quickly is one of the most important things in a settled society, so there's a few institutionalized magical solutions to that, among other things.

Makes sense. That said, I think there's something fun about building characters for a more limited setting, even all the way back to Primitive

There's something liberating about building an Orc whose best weapon option is 'rock'

Rock can actually be pretty devastating if you build hard enough for it, and Rock, Large has the advantage of being available anywhere you can find a cinderblock.
