"Don't stare and gawk, boys! You have a fight to attend to!"

The recently-transformed birdman Nail screeches orders to his awe-staring bandits, noticing Irene having disposed of one of them while they were all distracted.

"B-but, boss... We didn't know you could do this!" One of them shakes his head in time to avoid a Bael's clutches.

"And I just found out recently! Get over it and, uh... what's your name again? I don't recognize you all from up here."

"It's... Jeimy, sir!"

"Right... Jeimy, go inside and tell the rest of the men to get their lazy asses OUT here!"

"Oh man... That is intense!" Tobias says, chuckling from behind you. "Hey, cousin, you gotta show that off more!"

Nail does not listen, instead launching his avian form down towards Irene after rising into the air. You see Marrius hurrying between them, sword at the ready.

At about the same time, two bandits with hand axes are keeping you and Tobias between them, slowly inching in, aiming their axes at you...

The sight before you is fascinating for simply how different a person Vicki appears in this moment. But, now isn’t the time to dwell on such things.

You seal Ellie’s movement completely.

Vicki wrests the needle out of Ellie’s frozen hands and then gingerly begins to slide it out of her own. “T-that’s a good disguise for you. B-being human…”

You smile and cross your arms. “Maybe I should be giving you similar praise.”

“I-I was sent to make sure everything was going according to plan. W-we can’t make any mistakes now that we’ve come this far.” She finally pulls the entirety of the needle from her hand with a small whimper.

“No disagreements there.” You turn to look at Ellie’s sealed body who glares right back at you. “I’ll bring her back to the palace.”

Vicki nods as she carefully wraps a thin bandage around her injured hand. “I’ll return with the information as soon as I-I can then.”

You look over her carefully. “You’re sure that you’re capable of going with that injury?”

“I’ve had worse…”She mumbles defensively, looking down at the ground.

You believe her, and don’t pursue the matter any further. Then with a slow breath, you unseal your true form, and only take a small moment to adjust.

After recovering, you walk over to Ellie’s body and wrest her up from the cot. “Well then, there’s nothing left for us here.”

Vicki turns back to look out at the worsening weather. “P-probably…”

~

Upon returning to the palace, you head straight for the library where you place Ellie’s body on a nearby chair and search for Grievermillion.

Upon returning to the palace, you head straight for the library where you place Ellie’s body in a nearby desk and search for Grievermillion.

You eventually find him in the center of the grand library with an immense cluster of parchment surrounding him on the floor. Izu sits next to him as they both look over a piece of writing together.

“Wouldn’t it be better if the points where like this?...” Izu traces on the parchment with his finger.

“The sharpness of the angles would be lessened, reducing the tension in that circle, and without losing a single point…” Grievermillion looks up from the parchment toward Izu. “You’ve got quite the talent for this, young one. It would’ve taken me hours to notice that.”

“I learn from the best.” Izu raises his head and grins as you approach.

Grievermillion shakily rises to his feet to bow to you. “I’ve completely derived the binding ritual from the notes, and sent word of the required materials.” He gestures to Izu. “Your apprentice and I we’re discussing ways of simplifying this staggeringly complex ritual.”

“We’ve improved two of the seven ritual circles.” Izu beams at you excitedly.

Seven ritual circles… Depending on their dimensions and form, that might take quite some time to set up.

“They’re huge.” Izu informs you. “We’re going to have to set up outside the city.”

You snap up the parchment and look over the designs. Six complex ritual circles forming the frame of an interior so complex there’s several more pieces of parchment on it than all the others combined. You can already see numerous places for improvement, but it’s still going to take a large amount of manpower to setup. Good thing you know just where to get the help.

“I’ve brought back the human dreamer, so we can focus our attention on this in earnest.” You organize the stacks of parchment for your later review.

Izu takes a few steps forward and looks around you. “Is it okay if I speak to her?” He asks tentatively.

[2/?]
>>
>>43730766

You stare at him with a quizzically.

“I just wanted to see how she’s been doing.” He looks down at his feet.

You remove a portion of your seal so that Ellie can speak, and are surprised not to instantly hear screaming of some sort. “You can already surmise how she’s been, but if you want to speak to her, then I won’t stop you.”

He nods and then waves farewell to Grievermillion before taking off to where you left Ellie.

“Your apprentice looks just like he did when he was young…Acts similar as well, but there’s something about him that makes him strangely unique.” Grievermillion states aloud.

You turn back to him and he instantly drops that subject. “There is another important matter you should know of about the ritual.” He picks up a small piece of parchment. “During the binding ritual the Human Dreamer will be permanently affixed to a central ritual stone. Their mind will forever undergo the torment of being tied to a much greater being.”

[3/4]
>>
>>43730778

“Do we have this ritual stone in our possession?” You ask immediately.

Grievermillion shuffles through more papers at your request. “Palace inventory records show the stone suddenly disappearing after the war.” He looks up at you. “While I did not know what purpose it held then, I would have heard about any theft, so it must be lost somewhere within the palace.”

“Is there any writing about what this stone might look like?” You pace around, thinking about where it might’ve ended up.

“There is none, other than it large enough to encase an individual.” He bows apologetically. “A substitute may be synthesized, if it comes to it, but it won’t have nearly the same potency if made in such a short time.”

Meaning that it’s in your best interest to locate this stone… If it disappeared shortly after the war, it’s very probable that it was because of the war it disappeared in the first place. And if it wasn’t stolen from the palace, perhaps it was hidden inside. But there wasn’t anyone at that time that know of its value, so what value would a large stone have shortly after the end of the war?

>Have Grievermillion prepare the substitute.

How would it change the setting is the Emperor of Mankind in Warhammer 40.000 was a Empress of Humankind instead?
Let's assume the whole Primarch project went as in canon.

For instance, would we still get a Heresy Happening? I mean, women in general are pretty much hardwired by nature to care more for their offspring than men. Would some motherly TLC stop Horus and company from going full Chaos?

Would Sisters of Silence/Sisters of Battle be more respected/feared? They would probably style all their wargear after the wargear of Her Imperial Majesty.

I doubt the Empress would be any more like an ordinary woman than the Emperor was like an ordinary man. When you're an immortal being with godlike powers who has lived for tens of thousands of years, that identity inevitably defines you much more than gender.

Things would have gone almost exactly the same way, up to and including the Heresy. The Imperial cult might be a bit different, but even that would likely just be an aesthetic change.

So, I'm planning to run a 5e game on roll20 soon. Sort of a sword-and-sorcery style campaign with a lot of class restrictions. Before that, though, I want to flesh out my setting.

I decided completely fleshing out a continent's worth of locations and history was a bit extreme, so I decided to create a micro-continent that was once the center of a great empire that spread across a nearby continent.

So I've created a timeline for the micro-continent, fleshed out the regions a bit, made a hex map for it, and decided which classes/races fit into the setting and how they fit in.

Anyway, I just want to ask, how much does /tg/ consider "too much" or "too little" setting information when going into a new campaign?

Class restrictions? In 5E? PC customization is already pretty limited and what exists isn't particularly exciting. Why would you do this?
>>
>>43729490
5e was pretty much designed to be underpowered D&D, you don't need to restrict more.
>>
>>43729668
>>43730043
Jeez, I'm not taking out that much in the way of classes, just:
>Bards
>Paladins
>Sorcerers (except for the SCAG Storm sorcerer)
>Fighter & Rogue archetypes that add spellcasting (Eldritch Knight, Arcane Trickster)
>the really flashy Monk archetypes (Sun Soul, 4 Elements)
>Bladesinger Wizard
also restricted the Ranger to the one without spells from that UA a while back. I'm kind of going for a grittier, low-magic setting.

Now, can you please answer my question?

You yawn as you clutch the railing and watch the sun come up, dawn breaking over the trees by the side of the river. You are standing on the deck of the riverboat The Handsome Hook, currently sailing down the river Kuri. The river itself is peaceful in the pre-dawn light, the silence broken only by the laughter of kingfishers.

Yes, you’re back here again. It’s the fastest way back and despite the inherent danger the river now poses to you, the scryguard that you let Rock divide up from the carriage should keep you safe. You sort of like the idea anyway, as if you were retracing your steps.

But you don’t plan on staying on this river for long. What route did you all decide on?

>Stopping shortly down the river and taking the main road. It’s the fastest way but it’ll lead you straight past Melire.

>Stopping back at the town by the swamps where you first found Bunyip and then trekking through the swamps and bushland.

>Riding the river all the way back to the Hinterlands. You used the Hinterland backroads to avoid scrutiny from Melire once before after all. You might have to sneak past Tedwell however.

Explosions occasionally ripple off the surface of the moon as you watch. New craters dot the moonscape as two large figures chase each other in a deadly melee, their attacks reducing boulders to pebbles as they miss inches from each other.

Lorgul swings his maul overhead and it collides with the bulwark of a shield of Agona, driving her several inches into the rocky surface. Silently she pushes him backwards with incredible strength, her spiked morningstar swinging upwards at the Voidknights chin. He manages to dodge back, a ripple of Void energy propelling him backwards before he pushes off a lip of a fresh crater, swinging his maul once more.

Nekris at your side as you both watch from above, standing on the hull of a Coffin in the airless void as the two juggernauts dueled below you. The quiet hunter folds the smaller pair of their arms as they watch with keen eyes that glimmer with necrotic energy.

Your new creation, Punisher Agona, was quite the combatant. She easily blocked strikes from Lorgul that you've seen yourself shatter stone and shred through bulkheads like paper, her own attacks quick and precise despite her massive bulk.

The black metal of your spear shifts and twists hovering close to you but as you reach out it slithers like a thing alive into your grasp. A silent mental command to the fighters and they halt their duel, looking up at you questioningly. Another short mental message and they return to their own awaiting Coffin as you and Nekris reenter and zip across the surface of the moon.

Your Think Tanks had sent a message of their own, proudly exclaiming the finished result of your first subcapitol ship awaiting your inspection. The time was nigh to truly rebuild your fleet. You almost feel...giddy at the thought, the spear writhing to reflect your excitement.

Your shadow shall fall across the Galaxy and the dead shall rise in your passing. The Galaxy will know true fear once more.

You are Jadyk Lich-Lord and the new Conquering Worm.

Would 'partial' die make sense?

I ask because I like both the mechanic of dice pools (where one rolls dice equal to their ability score) and large ranges in ability scores but those two things don't usually gel together because of the unwieldy number of dice one has to roll and then add up. So I was thinking of having players roll 1d10 for each -10- they have in an ability score and representing fractions of 10 (say 7 in a total score of 27) with a partial die and because they don't have d7s this would just be represented by what is effectively 70% of a d10 roll.

I have a couple of tables mocked up for how this might work. Basically, the player would roll a number of d10s equal to each 10 points in their ability score with the remaining points being represented by another d10 (preferably of another color to set it apart) that they would then compare to a table against the remainder number.

It's not particularly elegant but it's the best compromise so far.

Why though? In a video game yes but seriously when you sit at a table would you really like checking tables to pretend to roll a bunch of d7s or would you rather roll an abstract estimation like a single d20?

So I am about to play with another guy against a Sinestro corp team of 1000 points with myself and the other player running 500 points each. so i come to you wondering what i should run here?

i know that the sinestro player will be running ffwol003 Sinestro, wol057a Superboy Prime, wol021 Lyssa Drak, and possibly: wol037 Karu-Sil, and wol013a Romat-Ru

also, heroclix general i suppose?

It depends a LOT on what characters and game pieces you have access to, and are allowed by the scenario or house rules you are playing.

The Sinestro Corps are not one-dimensional like the Red Lanters or Blue Lanterns, they have enough choices to build a balanced army so there's no glaring weak spot for you to take advantage of.

One idea would be to look for characters whose stats cannot be modified by opposing characters, thus protecting yourself from the Yellow's usual negative-perplex tactic. Also, if he's using the Yellow Battery the emotional spectrum effect can be brutal so whatever you do, DON'T play a swarm army of low-cost characters.

Another general piece of advice would be to try something drastically different from what your opponent is expecting; for example, instead of building a normal army how about a 500-point Colossal fig or Team Base?

Other than that, you gotta play smart, take advantages of opportunities when you see them, and roll well with your dice. Good luck.

well, i'm not opposed to buying pieces for this game, i will likely get a lot of mileage out of them.

i was considering bringing a 500 point justice league international with the bug vehicle to the game but outside of the bug and the beetle made to pilot it, i i have no idea who to include.

The best success I've had with the JLI is to bring Lobo and characters with lots of damage-reducing powers like Captain Atom and Martian Manhunter, and play them all with the JLI ATA.

Keep Lobo adjacent to as many as possible, and don't rush him into the fight too much. When your guys take hits, use the JLI ATA to shrug damage over to Lobo (he'll heal it right back in the next turn or two anyway). Using this tactic, all of your characters effectively have their armor improved; Someone has to be hitting for at least 4 damage to actually hurt anyone with Invulnerability or better.
