>Last time!
We witnessed Canoness Superior Boudicea flinging herself and an Archon off a spire and SURVIVING.
Got more delicious drawfaggotry.
And still failed to write up about the other characters!
To those just coming in this is an open suggestions and ideas thread for the Order Of The Armoured Heart, a Sororitas Militant order using CQC weapons in favour of bolters (Not flamers though, they're not stupid), and with their smaller missions dressing in monk's robes ala travelling priests, only more likely to survive a bolter shell. So far we've got incident reports, action scenes, drawfaggotry and writefaggotry abundant. So let's see what else we can do, hm?
>Character profiles and the drawfaggotry itself inbound!

>Name: Canoness Superior Boudicea.
>Physical Details: White hair, caucasian, female.
>Notable features: Wrinkles under her eyes.
Originally the second in command of Canoness Superior Brunhilde. After finding her superior crippled by an attack from an Eldar Farseer, Boudicea took up the Order's relic power sword and duelled the Farseer to a standstill, grievously wounding her before the Xenos Witch retreated, with immediate medical attention Brunhilde survived, but was no longer fit for combat, and passed on command to Boudicea, who was soon to be formally handed the title on Firra, before distinguishing herself by duelling and defeating a Dark Eldar Archon during an ill timed raid on the capital hive.

>Name: Canoness Alyysia
>Physical Details: Blonde Hair, Caucasian, female.
>Notable features: Eye-patch over right eye.
One of the chapters premier Halberd users, training under the last Canoness Superior and being promoted to Canoness herself after the events on Orbiting Penitentiary #656, she ended up blinded after her squad ran into the Wych Cult Leader Lelith Hesperax during a Dark Eldar raid in one of the systems neighbouring Pyraxia's own. This incident and the raid on Firra led to what is perceived by many to be a one sided hatred of the Order to the Dark Eldar as a whole, surpassing most Order's zealous attitude towards these Xenos. Currently she is awaiting a bionic to replace her eye, but has still managed to function as an excellent fighter on the battlefield despite her wound.

Is there any film or video out there that correctly depicts half-swording?

All I can find is Lindybeige or Skallagrim being autistic about it on youtube. I think it makes no sense the way these people present half-swording based only on historic manual pictures. The way they portray it simply seems impratical, (holding the blade at half length and trying to fence or stab with it) seems to only make sense if you are fighting in a thigh corridor where you risk hitting the walls with your sword.

Besides, no videos out there cover the mordhal or spinning the blade to use the pommel, grip and crossguards as a mace/warhammer.

I also strongly feel half-swording and the mordhal work better as great sword (two-handed/longsword, pick what you fancy) technique instead of arming sword technique. An arming sword just seems to short or to light to warrant this kinda technique being used.

Anyone who follows HEMA closely got anything that portrays proper technique?

Please feel free to correct whatever assumption I got wrong.

It was used more commonly with Arming Swords. They were more common swords and better for thrusting. Half swording especially was meant to boost penetration to finish off an armoured knight.

2 handers did have the allowance for it though. This is what the leather-covered or blunted section was for.

A common tactic to deal with Pikemen, for example, was to use Zweihanders. You walked forward swinging an upwards figure 8, knocking the pikes out of your way, until you were close enough to strike. Then, because of the press this resulted in, you half-sworded to stab bitches in the face.

it's against an armoured opponent if you are (preferably) armoured and doesn't have another, better weapon. So it's basically a Plan B.
Also don't forget that you have to stab relatively small areas while the other guy really doesn't want this to happen so your best bet is to get into some kind of grappling and then stab that bitch. The other guy want this too if you are armoured so long reach isn't really needed and doing those small but precise motions are way better in this situation

>Besides, no videos out there cover the mordhal or spinning the blade to use the pommel, grip and crossguards as a mace/warhammer.
because those aren't the most useable techniques regardless of how much circlejerk there is about them on /tg/

>I also strongly feel half-swording and the mordhal work better as great sword (two-handed/longsword, pick what you fancy) technique instead of arming sword technique
might be but the time when two handed swords were really common full plate was started to be less and less common.

about a better video, Matt Easton might have one, or if you are very lucky then Dimicator maybe (although I wouldn't count on that one)

I hear a lot of people bashing GNS theory, and I'm not really sure why. It's a useful tool for understanding RPGs and RPG design, and anyone who wants to get into GMing or brewing needs to have some fundamental understanding of RPG design.

Is GNS theory perfect? No. Nor is the particulate photon model. Is GNS theory useful? Yes. So is the particulate photon model.

>>
When people stop using "Narrativist" to describe games that are better off described as simply "poorly designed," I might stop bashing the stupid "theory."
>>
In practice GNS theory is just a judgement tool in other gamers and games. It's categories are too broad and simple, and doesn't actually help a designer learn anything. The Big Model's slightly better, but the Color Theory and Channel Theory should have more consideration if we want to seriously talk about game design.

How do you feel about roll-under systems, tg?

I know dice mechanic means nothing by itself, but I am curious.

Like in GURPS: roll under your attack skill to hit, defender must roll under their attack skill to block. It's great for drawn-out duels, especially in a bellcurve system like GURPS where results are pretty predictable, so a fight between two swordsmen can last a long time.

What about a 2d6 roll-under system, kinda like Traveller?

>>
I think roll-under is inherently counter-intuitive but it can work just fine if you're used to it.
The real problem is mixing roll-under and roll-over in the same system. That shit can just fuck right off forever.
>>
Works about just as well as roll-over systems. I'm alright with either, even though roll-under takes a little getting used to if you've been conditioned with "higher numbers=good" from other games.
>>
>>43839870
>I think roll-under is inherently counter-intuitive

Not really? I mean, "Here is your skill level, this is how good you are at it. Are you good enough to beat random chance"

Roll Under = The Dice is the DC

Can we acknowledge that, while Tolkien was at least in some degree was inspired perhaps by the Jewish diaspora when writing his Dwarves in The Hobbit, that the vast majority of fictional Dwarves are more likely inspired as analogous to Celtic, Gaelic, Germanic, and Norse cultures?

I only bring this up because people endlessly parrot this on /tg/ and I think maybe you guys have misunderstood Tolkien's intention. He was notorious for distaste of allegorical subtext. I always interpreted his comment as him saying that he noticed these paralells after having formulated the characters instead of "BRO THESE ARE FANTASY JEWS". Really I wouldn't have even thought of the Jews as being themetically similair to the Dwarves until Tolkien pointed it out which I really think is what he meant.

I don't have anything against Jews, but it irks me when in some discussions on here people try to say they are the equivalent to "Middle Earth's Jews". Beyond the slight thematic paralells I don't really see any other evidence that they are supposed to be representative of Jews. When I ask them to elaborate they just say "But they love gold, isn't obvious? XD"

Also, like I mentioned earlier, overwhelmingly Dwarves seemingly take visual and cultural cues from Norse and Gaelic cultures more so than from the Jewish diaspora it seems to me.

So can we finally put this antisemitic meme to rest?

Can /tg/ name systems where using roguish skills like sneaking past people or picking pockets is NOT inherently screwed over because the rules makes no distinction between "low-risk noncombat rolls that have light consequences on failure" and "high-risk noncombat rolls that cause setbacks like 'someone noticed you trying to sneak past them/steal from them and is now angry about it!' on failure"?

Taking riskier actions that have more biting consequences on failure should logically have a greater reward for success than safer actions, right?

I suppose the term cyberpunk is a bit loaded but near future style game, didn't role off the tongue quite as well. Regardless, it seems like every sort of game set in a near future scenario is always about operating operationally with operaters or being essentially super spies but what about the other vocations that would no doubt exist and have access to the sort of technology present in such settings.

I figure most of /tg/ would be familiar with pic related but such a game like this be made fun? What would Shadowrun be like if you played as emergency rescue personnel or going out to fight wildfires caused by rampent fire spirits? What would EP be like if you played as a group hired to go rescue some research team on a exo-planet?

Could a game like that be fun to do?

>>
>>43838780
I think it could be. Such work can get pretty tense and exciting even without the added cyberpunk elements. Though it might be wanting for a compelling narrative; I'm having a hard time imagining it being anymore than a series of loosely connected occurences
>>
>>43838780

>>
>>43838853

You're right but the thought I had going was doing something more then just the typical high speed low drag operators. Granted thats the whole premise of games like Shadowrun or cyberpunk 2020 I just think it gives the world more depth when you see it from an angle that isn't that of a spy or mercenary.
