Can you give some examples of settings where humans are physically the smallest race?
Pic related and Dark Souls 1 are the only ones that come in mind

Also,
1. What's your favorite setting as far as it's fantasy races go?
2. What's your favorite fantasy race and why?

>Can you give some examples of settings where humans are physically the smallest race?
I'm actually playing around with pretty much just that idea in my own worldbuilding. There are basically just two non-human races besides people, and both are considerably larger than humans.

>1. What's your favorite setting as far as it's fantasy races go?
I really fucking love Tolkien and I fucking love the way he handles the races, but I very much HATE them being transplanted to other fantasy settings. I love Middle Earth's elves, dwarves orcs and hobbits, but I am sick of them in Forgotten Realms and all other similar derivates.
That is why I eventually opted out to create my own settings, and world-building became one of my biggest "hobbies".
I do have to give credit to TES lore though, especially Morrowind's. They did manage to make non-human races feel interesting there and deviate them enough from the standard Tolkien clichés.

>2. What's your favorite fantasy race and why?
I rarely have one favorite race. I generally either like the settings - in which case I like all it's races equally, or I dislike the settings and then I hate all the races equally. I also don't think there should be such thing as cannon "fantasy races" - the idea of fantasy is that it should be imaginative, not a collection of transusable tropes.

Sounds pretty fun, that's actually exactly the kind of settings I really like (again, I loved the Banner Saga and Dark Souls)

Care to tell more about them?

Glorantha, because plant-elves that are convinced plants should eat plants and meat should eat meat and the entire universe started going downhill with the invention of herbivores, and trolls that can eat anything including air although they prefer not to because of the flatulance, and lizarddragondudes that do things like insist you take their money because they borrowed it off a past life of yours sixhundred years ago and then you promptly died like an asshole and they've been trying to track down your reincarnations ever since and this debt has put their spiritual evolution on a serious holdup

>2. What's your favorite fantasy race and why?
the aforementioned trolls, because the troll god of being nice to non-trolls stole the volcano god's penis and thats why his followers can use spears, and also invented sunglasses to make it less unpleasant for trolls to be aboveground during the day, and also their ancestral homeland is hell before that asshole the sun died and made it all hot and bright and hell-y

Alright fa/tg/uys, I noticed the weekend smut threads have disappeared and so have the author generals. There's no way /tg/s aspiring authors are gonna be okay with that though.

Things that are welcome:

I don't know man. Even though I do like writing (haven't done it properly in years though) this doesn't feel very /tg/ related. At least the novel portion. That seems like it should be on /lit/. I understand the place is a shit hole, but still.
>>

lit rejects genre fiction of any kind and author threads have been part of /tg/ for years.

Traditional gaming and fantasy trilogies go together like DnD and 5 sweaty nerds with way too many free weekends.

Mixed feelings but I am told that this is a grand 'ol /tg/ tradition.

That said, OP made a very wise decision in posting at 5:48 EST. That means that simply by being awake, I am the smartest person in this thread.

I'm in a bit of a pickle, /tg/.

I really want to know. Should Clerics be a follower of weird ass pantheons and religions or should they be roaming healers with actual magical powers?
15 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>43867666
Well Satan, while a lot of people use it as an excuse to tip their fedoras, I've always found that religion not being mandatory for Cleric powers was a decent concept.
>>
Considering Clerics have all their magical powers supplied by deity of said religion I'd say they're mostly followers of weirdo religions,

That being said they don't necessarily need a religion but "something" is answering those prayers
>>
>>43867666
"Cleric" is such a dumb and essentially meaningless fantasy cliché that you can really do what ever you want with them. In reality, cleric literally means "member of the clergy", in other words a priest or priestess. So if you want them to remain true to their name, they should be not only followers of some form or religion, they should be flat out priests of that religion.

Now whenever that can included being roaming healers or not, that is up to your choice. As for the source of their magical powers, that again is mostly up to how you handle the lore, concepts of magic and religion in the world in particular. You need to figure that shit out to make it consistent.

IG Storm Trooper.

Member of a small squad of heroic guardsmen who fought the vicious ork menace on a frozen hell hole of a word.

Perhaps the most heroic thing he did was rally his wounded, tired and cold squad with the severely injured sergeant to make one last stand against a wave of orks tunneling into the power generator complex in order to collapse the tunnel with a pile of grenades.

The plan was a success and everyone survived amazingly after fighting many orks.

Was killed a couple of weeks later by friendly fire.

"Reunify the divided races" actually seems like a cool concept and I haven't seen it done before.

Especially because, as you presented it, it's not necessarily sexual. You could just be uniting the cultures and getting them to live together/reconcile after centuries of hatred, not make them breed together 1:1 to create a full half human/half elf race.

I think you're overly worrying and your GM's just trying to be original.

So, Guy at work just LOVES the Paranoia RPG series, and has been telling me about it. I've been under the impression that Paranoia was this out-of-control game where, as a GM, you really shouldn't even bother with a plot because even a task as simple as "the high programmer wants a sandwich, go make him a sandwich." will end with a full party TPK seven times over with no progress made. He seems to insist that its entirely possible to have a plot and even a long-running narrative in paranoia (though he says it will be goofy and not at all serious).

So I ask /tg/ (since I figure at least a few of you may have played it) which of these is true?

Or, more accurately, which of these two statements is true of a TYPICAL Paranoia game?
33 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>43863643
First is more true, second is equally true but can only happen by accident.
>>
>>43863643
The modern line talks about different types of Paranoia games, the first type "classic" is what your friends are talking about. You also have semi-serious and in theory serious, Although I've never known someone who's played that.
>>
There are actually three types of Paranoia.
Classic Paranoia is somewhat silly, and tpks happen repeatedly, but usually with some kind of logic (Fucked up, silly logic, but still logic) behind it. A High Programmer wants a sandwich from a specific food vendor in a sector that is currently undergoing a variety of problems and the normal inter-sector transportation methods aren't working. So he pulls some strings and gets a troubleshooter team in there to retrieve it under the thin guise of collecting specific, food-grade biological evidence from that location. It's likely that X+1 secret societies want this evidence dealt with in X+1 ways for no reason other than they heard a High Programmer wants it. X = number of players.
Then there's deadly serious paranoia and wacky cartoonish paranoia (These have specific names that I forget). In the deadly serious style of paranoia, the scenario is the same, but the sandwich is actually a code-phrase that gets them a datachip in the bag with the food. This data is the real payload that everyone wants, and the team leader will be aware of this fact. The silliness of the situation is toned way, way down, and "shoot first, ask questions never" will get you audited by The Computer faster than you can blink. The bureaucracy is scarily effective when it's bearing down on you.
Then there's the silly style, which resembles a Saturday morning cartoon. It's only recommended for people who are drunk off their ass or running for a bunch of hyperactive 12 year olds hopped up on sugar. A high programmer wants a sandwich, there are literal communists running around in big, furry ushankas with hammers and sickles, and R&D just gave you a gun that turns people into inanimate objects, GO!

Hey guys,

My brother-in-law is trying to get me into KoW. He's an old WHFB player but GW sucks and he's looking into more cohesive rulesets.

Reading the rules I think it seems like a fairly solid game, if a little simplistic. I only played WHFB very briefly and it seems like this game strips out a ton of the bullshit, but also loses a little strategic complexity in the process (magic for example looks way too simple).

Warmahordes is my main game, which scratches the ultra-competitive, super precise skill-cap itch for me, so this would be more of a beer-and-pretzels diversion for me. That said I don't want to plunk down on an army that's absolutely terrible. I play Trolls in Warmahordes and was looking at Dwarves as a similar analog - durable, elite troops, solid mixture of melee and ranged abilities. Is there anything I should outright avoid? Seems like the general strategy is to pack your backfield with rifles and cannons while your slow infantry advances to bat cleanup.

Bump - I was surprised to see there wasn't an existing mantic/kow thread. Are they not popular here? I figured they'd have a lot of support after the whole AoS thing.
>>
>>43863526
You'd be surprised. I find there are a lot of aos players, actually. Granted they are pretty fragmented being spread out, but they exist. The AoS General threads do pretty well, better than whfb threads, and the KoW General threads need to expand into other mantic games to keep active i've found.

I don't play AoS, but I do pretty much only play 40k or deadzone when I can get another person willing to try it.
>>
KoW is a good competitive game, you can play it beer&pretzels, but if you don't pay attention to deployment and movement you'll get tabled.

Dwarves are a very good army, every unit has it's place, nothing to avoid really. I personally find warmachines a bit too random for my taste, but unless you try to go something random or spamy (like an all shooting army), It'll work.

Not many people on here talk about KoW, not sure why. Plenty seem to be playing, regular store tournies with 20+ locally

Sup /tg/, I am currently DMing a homebrew (Medieval, closest parallel would be D&D) and I’m looking for some advice.

So I introduced a temporary DMPC to round out the parties skills (Namely in knowledge religion and Sense Motive). The result was an extremely charismatic druid who was once a Shrine Maiden from my setting’s !NotJapan. It was a given that I wanted this character (who is aligned CN) to uncover the party’s (of which 2 are evil, and the rest neutral) illicit deeds and plans to invade hell and release and/or depose a number of high-ranking demons. I wanted this to be the thing that eventually drove her away as she realized how insane the rest of these dudes were.
Now this backfired – Hard. When I introduced her friendly, charming, and crafty demeanor, two of the parties more quiet characters perked up to this and started to get loose lips. OOC they asked about her description and I explained that she was very attractive (a trait which I picked to fit with the super charisma to make the party open up) and I noticed that both the players started expressing a strange possessiveness over this NPC. Even more unfortunate the party took her straight with them to their meeting with one of the major (evil) players and got the NPC involved so deep that there’s no way the party could let her go without having a major loose end.
And now I stand, with a DMPC who is in too deep and of which two separate PC characters have set their sights on for a romantic relationship. So my question is this: how might I remedy this situation?
Do I live with the guilt of baiting two players and hope they lose interest?
Do I find a lame, if not probable, excuse to have her bail without a trace?
Or do I say fuck it and simply prepare for the horrendous amount of spaghetti sure to be falling from the heavens as two nerds try to woo an imaginary Japanese bombshell?

Also ITT, times which NPC romantic interest in your tabletops have worked or failed miserably.

Kill her. She's in deep as a loose end, show them what happens when they pursue this path; people they care about die. Live with your guilt and finish this, she is not a people but a plot device, one you use to fuck with your player's hearts. You hooked them, now follow through.

DMPC must DIE.

So come to me, champion! Consume your god-food, chant your holy words, call down your challenge upon me! For in you, I find the truth I have been seeking - in you, I find the wholeness that was missing. For now I see, I am as you are. And as you are...

Sitting in front of you is a winded, handsome young man. You've just beaten him down after he refused to stop trying to forcibly hypnotize you in order to attempt to wipe your mind of his seduction abilities.

...And you also realize how odd this situation sounds when you put it in those terms.

Mark, who has been one of your close friends for the past school year, is now asking for permission to attempt to erase your memories—which, he has stated himself, may or may not work because he hasn't tried it before. It turns out that he was getting frustrated with Laura and accidentally turned up the charm a little too high when he went out on a walk with you.

You suspect that the copious amounts of hard liquor the six of you drank also had something to do with his loss of control, but you don't comment on it.

"You gonna let me up now?" Mark asks.

You glare at him. "Still thinking."

"Please, Rachel," Mark begs. "You don't know what you're getting into here."

On one hand that could be nice, you run really really long as it is, so it makes sense.

On the other this is the worst time of the day to start running and participation usually only picks up ~8 - 10 hours from now, so it might just kill your playerbase instead depending on when you do run.
