They can be restrictive, but are quite good for DMs without the time to make their own adventures or NPCs. Like people with jobs, families, and hobbies other than roleplaying.

PotA is pretty good as a dungeon crawl. I mean, it has zillions of dungeons and a fairly decent plot to tie them all together. Depending on how much you and your players like elemental-themed stuff (elemental monsters, elemental cultists, elemental spells, elemental magic items, etc. ad nauseum) you may or may not get tired of all the fire/water/air/earth related stuff. It does get a little predictable and boring after a while.

But the dungeon locations are great, with all kinds of cool combos, scenarios and NPCs in them. Ending's a bit weak IMO but YMMV.

Hey /tg/ have any of you ever tried making your own card game?

I'm not talking about a collectible game because I doubt it's feasible to do adequately.

Personally I've always liked battle type card games like pokemon, yugioh, magic, and elements or hearthstone online. I want to make my own game using a standard set of cards that everyone can build a deck from (maybe 100 or so). I don't want to copy mechanics from other games or make a weaker version of magic.

What do you guys think? Any advice/tips on how to make it decent or if it's worth doing at all?

The players play a group of deckers in an over the top 80s style-over-substance cyberpunk setting. Hacking involves running literal dungeons full of literal ICE monsters.

How do you describe the dungeons so that they sound cool and surreal? In cyberspace visuals are just metaphors so things can look however I want them to but I'm kind of stumped. Tron is kind of passe by this point.

Personify the sort of programs that are in the system, into 'living' entities or scenery:

Daemons that are hard to see, cleaning up things\carrying stuff around.
Warehouses full of memory, or a library, or a messy office.
Hunter-killer robots that are anti-ICE security.
A bloated mass of fat and tentacles managing all the other programs.
Trains\railguns\satelites for network communications.
Super helpful and polite UI stewards.

Is there a way to justify a race being almost entirely _____ Evil, assuming the following are the case?

>They are not demons or otherwise related to a "physical representation of elemental evil"
>They have a functioning society of arbitrary size, and/or multiple nations and ethnicities inside the race
>"Functioning society" can be taken to mean a civilization with enough trust to unite against outside forces adequately for self-defense, and unlikely to socially implode within a generation of formation
>They are culturally fluid; that is, a individual of this race raised outside of the culture, albeit rare, can exhibit the culture of another race.
>They are cognizant of other species to an extent to predict their future actions
>The species is sentient
>The species was not created with intent

The tl;dr: assuming that the (imprecise) morality system of D&D applies is there an opportunity for a race of evil creatures that isn't in some way contrived?

Probably, though I personally wouldn't bother. I prefer to leave races basically neutral and have massed generic evil mooks be such because this particular mob is, say, from a dickass organization or influenced by a dickass supernatural power.

Also don't start if you're not prepared for:
-hyper-competitive jackasses with a twisted sense of 'having a fun time';
-Spending 300+ on a competitive deck found on Internet and having to adapt it or scrap it and start another one entirely every other month to remain competitive, or otherwise, losing miserably every game;
-People of age 30+ who will gladly strip children of their best cards in exchange for some flashy shit;
And so on.

If you don't want to keep up with such stuff and don't have a group that plays non-competitive games for actual fun (in which case intro pack are as fine as anything else if you like the flavor), MTG might not be the game for you.

Hey /tg/
I've got a campaign coming up and I want to make a wizard, but I don't want my character and their backstory to be boring and generic and cliched. But I'm also a bit uncreative. Any of you want to help me shoot some ideas?
One idea I had was actually a Sorcerer that was raised by a wizard and grew up thinking they were a wizard, and they unnecessarily prepare their spells every morning. But, I actually want to play a wizard class, so that won't work.

Personally I'm a fan of playing younger, more inexperienced casters, as opposed to old and wise wizards. My last wizard character was a student at a state-sponsored magic academy and got assigned to the rest of the party as an "adviser" on magical matters (the leader of the city owed the party a political favor). The character's main goal was to survive the shit the party got into and graduate magic school. Yeah, it was kind of a "boring" backstory, but it worked. Remember, the meat of the game should happen within the game itself, nobody wants to read 3 pages of stuff that supposedly happened before the game even started.

You guys remember D&D 3.5, right?
Okay, so there was this book called Lords of Madness with all kinds of information on Mindflayers, and Neogi, and Beholders, and other freaks like that.
There's a magic item in the beholder section called "Mouth Pick" that allows beholders to wield melee weapons in their mouths.

Do you think it would be possible to create +1 mouth pick shurikens?

The GM knew I didn't want to keep playing my character, even though I hadn't said anything. Guy reads people well.

So he put us in a situation where only I could save us and only through self sacrifice. I got to go out like a champ and start a new character I was more interested in.

Going to answer the door would mean leaving this lovely warm nest you've made for yourself, putting on actual clothes, and then glaring into submission whatever freak of nature decided that...

You squint at your phone, eyes not quite wanting to focus anymore. 0813 manages to swim into legibility, before you squeeze your eyes the rest of the way shut.
