Couldn't have made this a general tg collection thread so you had something to show? Honestly, one set of dice as an OP does enough to start a dice thread.

After reading PF, 5e, and 3.5e I gotta ask this. Is there any point in rolled saving throws? I thought this was one of the single things 4e did right. Even people I met who hated 4e thought it was also better.
60 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
For the same reason you roll for attacks. Also having a 5% chance to fail any save is kind of nice, since you can never fully ignore even weak attacks.
>>
Saves as static defense values is yet another of the great ideas 4e had that 3.PF fans shat all over because it was new and different.
>>
It's legacy reasons only. Sacred cows.

You still have the 5% in 4e - it's the attacker's chance to crit.

So I'm creating a World for D&D 5e.

General idea is this:

Players start in a city with no connection to the outside world a mysterious barrier surrounds the city in a circular shape and continues vertically leading to the great blot in the sky. The barrier supplies constant light for the inhabitants.

The city's main knowledge base is what remains of a vast library. Book burnings and other things have occred. Mysteriously these books constantly talk about Wizards and Sorcerors, Clerics and the magic they can all cast. But no one has ever seen such a thing in the city. The closest thing is the Urn that supplies all the water needs for the farmers and the people it just endlessly creates water.

People can not see through the barrier at all. The city has been this way for over 2,000 years. The strain on resources and small living quarters has lead to constant civil wars. Regime changes and population qoutas. The population and the city is very much in decline the gene pool has faded and they are worried.

First session starts with players as children and they get a quest from a farmer to go see why water has stopped flowing. As they investigate BOOM CRACK the sky begins to crack and warp.

Suddenly the great Blot in the sky falls into the center of town and from their vantage they see it is a massive cork. Suddenly the entire city begins shaking violently and suddenly the barrier is gone above them they see a blue sky and white blots that dot it.

Also the cork in the center of town is still there.

This would lead into a timeskip of 10. People began discovering magic consulting the old tomes from the Library as they rebuild.

The world at large from the various explorations done is dangerous with lots of monsters and orcs around. They have yet to discover another sign of civilization so far and question why was the city sealed away. Now the party yearns to answer these questions and find out if they are the only civilization in the world.

>Now the party yearns to answer these questions and find out if they are the only civilization in the world.
This is where you made a critical error.
Don't ever assume the party is interested in something. They will only betray your expectations and find interest in something incredibly pointless and asinine.
>>
>>43826549
As you can probably guess the City was in a bottle. The general idea is the players while questing and exploring may find the bottled cities while adventuring and can uncork the bottle to release the city trapped within.

Essentially the players can do what they want with the cities but the bottles are indestructible and the center of gravity for the bottles are always made so that turning it upside down won't kill everyone inside

The reason the cities were sealed in the bottle is that there was a massive war with Dragons by all the civilized races which resulted in the Dragons summoning their primal gods. (Semi-Custom Pantheon. Gods are created by peoples faith and can be summoned with enough magical power/sacrifice into the Prime Material they still have their own little spheres of power and what not)

Dragons are more forces of nature in my world slowly turning into elemental beasts.

Red Dragons into Magma

Blue dragons with their association of sand and lightning slowly grow carbon shells and grow crystals that arc electricity

Green Dragons have ecosystems growing on them.

Black Dragons become quasi-undead as they are beings of decay and darkness.

White Dragons become cloaked in Permafrost

I might drop the metal dragons... Maybe they could be mechanical monstrosities or something opposing Nature

>>43826580
Eh your sorta right. I do plan on having the main thing be exploration of the world in a way similar to Rollplay: The West marches if you've heard of it.

The city is "large" in the sense that it once was but a lot of it is in ruins and the population is maybe 100 or so people. I do plan on having them be able to upgrade it and what not.

The next day you set out with Rainya on your date, after proposing to her, and with the encouragement of your friends, you decided that it was time to treat your new fiancée.

You rise and set out early, you made a list of things you wanted to do today, and you'll be a while getting through them all. You have five Rainyas with you today, and thanks to her shapeshifting powers, they all look different, so that together you look like a group of friends.

First things first...Space Lazar Battle!

When they heard you planned to spend the whole day together, your friends all wanted to pick an activity each for you. Lirael thinks the new Space Lazar Battle virtual reality game is the best thing ever!

You and the Rainyas don your costumes and sit through the introductory lecture. The games coordinator explains the rules.

“The laser weapons can't hurt you” he explains “and the environments are just high-definition holograms. The rules are fairly simple: 2 shots and you're out. You need to go back to base to reset your health and there is a longer delay each time, now” he looks out over the large group “we've got about 70 people here” he says “so how about Warring Bases? Get yourselves into groups and then pick a place to defend. The winners are the team who don't get their base captured by the enemy, or who last the full two hours.”
384 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
You and the Rainyas form a group yourselves, and you politely rebuff requests by others to join.

“And” says the coordinator, grinning “to make this more exciting, we'll use ultimate crossover rules – the base you pick will be from a fictional genre and your weapons, armour and base defences will match it.”

“Wow” says Rainya, looking over the arena: a massive warehouse-sized area featuring mash-up of ancient ruins, spacecraft, colony-level tech and monster-movie scenes.

Pick your base?

>Explorer Base (laser guns, light armour, robot defence guns)
>Mining Base (plasma drill melee weapon, medium armour, mining drone defenders)
>Spaceship Base (short range laser guns, medium armour, armoured base with few entry points but no defenders)
>Colony Base (shotguns, no armour, massive critter defenders and hostile environment)
>Horror Base (handguns, no armour, zombies and mutants that might turn on you)
>Military Base (heavy laser guns, medium armour, robot defence guns)
>Kingdom Systems (plasma swords, heavy armour, archaic-looking castle)

And with your abilities and skills, beating regular folk at a game is going to be easy. But what do you do?

>Be sporting, give them a chance to win
>Let them have fun, but you're winning
>Crush them!

"Easy there, you're okay. I know this is a lot to take in but the Crises is only getting worse. Doomsday is rampaging through the streets, Metropolis is being bottled by Brainiac, and Apokolips' forces are in full assault. And if we don't stop them and their Blackhole generator, it doesn't just mean the end of our world, but the end of life in this galaxy or beyond.

I can't do this alone, if we are going to save this world we are both going to have to pull together, as friends, as allies.

Are you with me?"

Corporate

In cyberpunk settings, I'm always a little skeptical about how the megacorporations are portrayed so negatively. There's more than a little Commie bias floating around. I figure in reality, they're probably not as bad as all that. Plus, the corporate lifestyle really would be the safest, most comfortable, and most stylish way to go.

Corporate types always get cooler stuff anyway.

I'm going to admit it, /tg/: My feelings are hurt because of a player. And I need you to tell me that either I did nothing wrong and the other guy is an asshole, I did everything wrong and need to improve to avoid this happening again, or I need to man up and quit being a bitch.

So I'm proud to DM a Pathfinder campaign going steadily on for over two years now. We started out with five players, but now we only have three. We've been looking for more in our local area over the course of MONTHS.

Well we thought we finally found one, we invited him over to play, and he accepted. He showed up early with a character already rolled up, I looked over it, and after some adjusting we came to an agreement to a PC that would fit into the current party and campaign perfectly.

I let the player know that the players were in the middle of the forest when the last session ended, so it might take a while before he could join in the game. The player said he was fine with that. I estimated only about two hours before I could get his character to join the party in a way that made sense to the ongoing plot.

Well, one thing led to another and players being players, they went exactly where I didn't expect them to go and then got into an extended fight that took quite a long time to resolve. Everyone had fun but, long story short: Eight hours elapsed, it was time to end the session and go home, and I still didn't get to find a way to have the new player join the campaign.

I apologized to him, and invited him to our next session. This is where he metaphorically kicked me in the balls and nearly left me in tears:

He told me don't bother planning anything for him because he wasn't going to show up to the next session. When I asked him why he bluntly told me that if I couldn't figure out a way to get him actively involved in the game in 8 hours, then I failed him as a DM and he doubted another 8 hours gaming with me would be any better. He said that gaming session was a waste of his time.

I agree. While it may of been hard to get him in the party that made full sence it wasn't impossible. They got in a fight? Leap out of a bush and help. Lost in the forest he stumbles on the party's camp.
And while these seem to be bland ideas they are still things that can be done.

Nothing is worse then a player left out for stupid reasons.
Are they half way across the country on a time sensitive mission? That's a good reason.
Are they tieing up the horses 5 minutes away? You can wait to start the combat.

But op. It's on you and your players. They are just as faulty

This.

It just would be weird if there was a monster that was so tough you could only hit it 5% of the time, but each and every time you did manage to hit it, you dealt double damage.

I personally don't care for the AC mechanic in the first place.

(PAST THREAD - http://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/43814368/ )

You are Tylus Adriaanse. A force sensitive human from the Outer-Rim planet of Drascent – A militaristic Hutt planet that gains its fortunes from the scavenging of deserted planets: Making you quite valuable to Doja Bogga Grella, reigning patriarch, as your nascent recognition of the force allows you to recognize force-imbued relics, often some of the most valuable treasures.

In exchange for relative freedom from the usual slavery the huts place upon your kind, you’ve been conscripted into the Treasury Expedition Force, composed of 20 soldiers of various races with you at the commanding helm.

And as of the last thread, you have entered the tomb of the hooded man and have sent soldiers down a fork in the road to examine the different paths after finding evidence of someone currently living within the tomb. All soldiers reported back with the exception of your soldiers sent down the central corridor where echoes were heard.

---

The damp atmosphere of the tomb once again has condensation forming on the inside of your mask, making it uncomfortable to breath. The same reaction seems to happen throughout the company, stressed men and women of several races stripping of their helms to cool their flushed faces.
"Commander, what next?" The voice of one of your compatriots rings over the comms network.

Grasping your blaster firmly, you decide the next course of action.
A.) Follow the missing group of soldiers with the remaining 16 and yourself.
B.) Focus on clearing the blocked passageway
C.) Stealthily, with 3 or less soldiers, attempt to scout the passageway yourself.
D.) Other (Write-In)

Sorry about the thread ending early last night, been on medication that's made me sleepy as hell lately and sorta passed out.

Theyre not. There's a lot of fantasy stuff too, but it's still mostly 40k.

And it's nothing to get excited about. The 'deals' are all huge combos adding up to about $300+ each, saving you about $30. They're not doing half off any individual kits or anything like that.

This is GW we're talking about, cmon.

Don't particularly care. This "greenskins unite to show they aren't a joke faction" thing isn't my cup of tea. I like when they're all about dicking around and having a good time smacking others and each other up, whether they're a real threat to the existence of other factions is irrelevant.

Anima: Beyond Fantasy is fucking fantastic for Nasuverse settings, partially because a good chunk of the game devs were inspired by Type-MOON works. Hell, the Eyes of Death Perception are a thing that players can get at character creation. And true to Nasu, it's debateable on whether or not they can kill Summons, which is how you get Servants.
