What the hell is the actual appeal of warhammer 40k 7th edition again?
other than "its the latest edition of 40k"
>>43969290
It's very similar to the rules of 6th edition, and the addition of Formations means that there's a lot more flexibility in terms of army composition. If you were already playing 6th edition, there's no reason not to switch.
If you were playing older editions instead though, then there probably isn't much reason to switch to playing 7th over them, as there haven't been many changes.
>>43969290
7th edition was released to solve the IP problems with their use of the term imperial guard. It's not a proper edition release. Expect that when 8th comes out, maybe next summer

How do you feel about Dragonlance: Chronicles?
Someone recommended it to me but I'm not really enjoying it.
>>43968979
I tried reading Dragons of the Autumn Twilight, but stalled half way through due to boredom. It did not age well.
And why the fuck would the writer invent something like dragon-people and then make them as disposable as goblins? The draconians are crap.
>>43968979
I enjoyed the first two trilogies as low budget fantasy filler novels, but every book I picked up after that was awful.
>>43968979
Haven't read the books but the roleplaying setting and adventures are awesome.
Few moments in fantasy fiction are as emotionally uplifting as when a ghost left on Earth for a long time finally makes its peace.
What are some stirring, touching, clever motivations for ghosts to stay on Earth (and how could they be resolved), beyond the cliches of avenging their own death or preventing a similar one?
>>43968912
Sorrow that the they didn't get to see their beloved one last time before dying. For the ghost to rest in peace, you have to bring their beloved to the haunted place so they can say their goodbyes.
>>43968912
Curses, such that the spirit cannot leave until it's task is complete.
I also like ghost of non-sapient beings, the loyal guard dog that protects the masters house even after death.
The big payoff at the end when the ghost steps into light, turns back to the party and says "Thank you." I'm a sucker for that drama.
>spirit must graduate from college
>spirit must confess love

When you're feeling it.
>How does the board, more or less, feel about them? Do you like them or not?
Some like, some hate. I run one, but don't play any others.
>What kind of quest would you like to see?
Doesn't matter; if it's not the quest YOU want to run, it'll be shit.
Quests need a containment board.

Welcome to Warhammer Fantasy, where everything's canon and the plot doesn't matter!
>>43968522
Imagine it, /tg/. Imagine this new CEO deciding that in order to build a successful future you need a solid foundation. He decides to establish a firm canon, resolving all the issues with the background story that have dogged Games Workshop universes for years. Their most trusted authors are approached to form a committee, and sure, some aren't interested since the work is new, tedious, and likely underpaid, but a few step up, two or three. The sheer volume of publications make it unfeasible to sort through it all, so GW posts on their website a form where fans can submit conflicts of canon that they've identified. The committee sorts through these submissions and finds a way to unite the plot where possible, but fully empowered to say "No, this did not happen, the author was mistaken." After six months of hard work their first unified settings emerge, free of conflict and plot holes. As more publications are brought out the authors are forced to check the internal wikipedia-esque canon system to ensure their writing adheres, and periodically the committee, plus or minus a few members, reconvenes to hear fan complaints and resolve issues.
Just imagine it /tg/... Just imagine it.

>>43967286
No.
Your best group is your best group.
The group with your friends in it might not even be your best group
>>43967286
God no. I might even go so far as to say that mine might've been my worst.
Your existence is darkness.
Your mind is in perfect harmony with the universe around you, though the edges only extend less than a meter beyond you in every direction.
Your thoughts are few, for you know everything. There is you, and that is all that matters.
You spend seconds and an eternity in this state, content to be what you are. Until one day, you are brought the fruit of knowledge.

Tell me, /tg/.
When looking for artwork for your player characters, do you:
>look for or commission original artwork in favor of a more unique and personalized design
>use artwork of a specific canon character in favor of a much larger library of illustrations
I go for the latter option myself. It's nice to be able to browse through tons and tons of pictures which all fit my character, even if I have to delude myself a bit to do it.
Also, post reference artwork for your characters!
I try to keep tons of character art for reference, and use them sometimes for NPCs. I use them to draw my own subpar but personalized art. Pic related, from session 1 in OotA.
>>43967163
I absolutely cannot just use existing art to depict my characters. It makes them no longer feel like 'my' character.
I'll get inspiration from existing art and run from there. Once the game looks like it's going to last and my character feels like they've developed since conception, I'll try to get them drawn.
There's a theory that when ancient humans befriended ancient canines and bred the most docile ones into dogs, it was the most aggressive ones who were left to evolve into wolves, meaning modern wolves are much meaner bastards thanks they would naturally be. Wolves are also in a lot of horror stories (werewolves were originally just wolves that had demons in them, wolves are one of the few living things that tolerate vampires, it was a wolf that raped Little Red Riding Hood, various stories of Three-Toes, etc). Because of this, I want to give my setting a quirk in the fact that it has "wolves" the same way the Forgotten Realms has "dragons."
Lockjaw wolves that bite with enough force to crush steel, and actually sicken if they don't get enough swords and shields in their diet. Timber wolves that climb and lair in treetops. Feywolves whose howls induce lunacy. And the dreaded "lone wolves," spoken of in the same way as "true dragons."
>Ancient Lone White Wolf
>Almost the same state block as an Ancient White Dragon
>Including the size and the breath weapon
>describe to players how they find a clearing in the heart of the swamp, but instead of daylight, a slate gray sky overshadows everything.
>"This unnatural twilight hangs over a vast mud wallow, with the occasional bit of carrion poking out of the muck."
>"A single creature stands up from the filth. Despite being twice the size of any horse, you didn't notice it till now. It shakes itself roughly, revealing a coat that repels mud, water, and light."
>"The creature snarls at you, not in hate, but in loathing. Roll Initiative."
>"On its first turn, the Great Lone Black Wolf howls loud enough to wake the dead. Let me roll initiative for the Walking Carrion..."
Stupid idea? Would I have to worry about furries?
>>43967090
We got dogs from a very small population that was near the group that domesticated them. The fact we took a few nice ones wouldn't have had a long lasting effect on the entire species, especially since we probably would have had our nice wolves help us kill the mean bastards.
Neat idea. Could get a bit stale if they're all literally reskinned dragons and serve no greater purpose, but that's up to your worldbuilding skills. No need to worry about furries any more than scalies in normal games. Consider the implications for werewolves and kobolds, maybe use Japanese style dog kobolds.
>>43967090
>ancient humans befriended ancient canines and bred the most docile ones into dogs
Okay
>it was the most aggressive ones who were left to evolve into wolves, meaning modern wolves are much meaner bastards thanks they would naturally be.
What?
We "befriended" a very small subset of the wolf population and bred favorable traits that led to the dogs we have today, the rest of the wolf population evolved as the environmental stimulus dictated.
In fact what happened is the polar opposite of what you just described because we kept killing wild wolves for their aggression and predation on domesticated lifestock, the modern wolf is skittish, cautious of any human contact and more aloof then their ancestors.

So how good is Farsight at sword fighting fluff-wise anyway ?
Did he ever duel any named character ?
He's a tau. He's shit by default
>>43966322
Its 40k, there is no consistency. He'd beat a Musketeer-inspired Keeper of Secrets using a whole Bloodthirster as a sword in one source, then lose to a Cultist with a toothpick in another.
>>43966322
Farsight trained himself in the style of the swordmaster Aun'shi.
Farsight killed many of marines in melee, killed Grog Irontoof, and managed to duel the Swarmlord to a standstill.
ITT: The best systems you've ever played.
Pic related, I love the Storyteller System.
Also this thread is inspired by >>43930668
P.S.: I want to try new systems.
I want something exciting, but Storyteller was my first RPG system, and I'm not sure what to play next.
>>43966320
Some extra info about my choice:
Storyteller gives a good balance between crunch and fluff, rules and freedom.
While I know many people hates it because the GM has too much power to decide what to do in unique situations, I have no problem with this whatsoever.
Every game has issues like this.
Also Storyteller was a good system for a beginner like me.
It's just comfy.
When I read D&D and Pathfinder books, I saw limitless rules - and every little action required too many rolls.
When I play I want to have fun.
And Storyteller is just perfect for that.
>best systems you've ever played
Meet the best universal system for lapsed wargamers, people with huge miniature collections and people who just wish all the polyhedrals in a set got more love. Also, I happen to think nWoD's rules are far superior to oWoD's. But going further into it would be too negative for this thread
>>43966442
>Also, I happen to think nWoD's rules are far superior to oWoD's. But going further into it would be too negative for this thread
Not at all.
In fact, I'm open to discussions like this.
I usually say that cWoD's fluff is superior to nWoD's, but it's possible that nWoD's crunch is the superior one.
My only problem is with nWoD books is that they're ugly (yes, it's an aesthetic problem) and a bit confusing.
I like simplicity.
But no further problems from my part. :)
Sweet dreams edition
