explain
I was around at the end of 2nd edition and 3rd edition when Oldcrons came out and the C'Tan got shoehorned into everything. That wasn't cool, except (imo) for the Void Dragon hinted as being on Mars, with a fleet of small Necron ships making a suicide run at the red planet and one succeeding in crash landing.
The codex didn't reveal much about the Necrons or their motivations, but it did spend a lot of time talking about members of the Adeptus Mechanicus being obsessed with (practically in love with) the Necrons. It's the one thing I miss about Oldcrons.
Has any recent fluff maintained that link? It was great to see them on the verge of switching sides (though the new side would generally just kill them).
IMO that's the bit where the shoehorning got a bit too much. Having the AM being very interested in the necrons, sure, but suddenly having that big a player on the brink of defection was pushing it.
>>44608722
the admech would never leave the imperium because they get to much support from it
>>44608539
>Shoehorn shoehorn
Fuck off. I bit if it was Chaos you would be sucking it off. Hypocritical wankers.
>The codex didn't reveal much about the Necrons or their motivations,
You must be blind because the codex explained their motivation clearly. You should read carefully next time. Their motivation i enslaving all life and restoring the C'tan Empire of Destruction.
To answer you question OP. Yes, the Void Dragon and a lot of Oldcron lore has been referenced in recent fluff.
You should read the short story "Infinite Circuit" and McNeil's Admech trilogy.
Someone just getting into 40k lore here.
Do orks have any robots? Not mechs, but thinking machines. They don't seem the type but they're orks, so I have to ask.
>>44608312
The closest would be the killa kans and deffdreads and mekadreads and stuff. Those are operated by a grot or ork brain, so theyre more like dreadnoughts more than anything. But no robots with AI or logic engines or anything like that.
Oh lord.
Somewhere in the vastness of the galaxy, a lonely Mek's two functioning brain cells bump together. He looks at the junk all around his workshop; at the janky prostheses built for the Dokz; at the heavy shootas built for the Gitz; at the Thinky-Bobz built for the Air Boyz, and he has a revelation.
He will krump his loneliness.
He begins to build. Bolts are hammered, wires are soldered, plates are welded, brew is swigged. Nights turn to days, days to weeks. No-one has seen Bugginz Zobgobba for ages. Rumors swirl in the rest of the camp, that the Mek is building something... Big.
Finally, his work complete, Bugginz steps back. The hulking frame looms high, like a scrapyard that dreams to be a man. Bugginz reaches for the switch, that will bring his monster to life.
Several fuzes burst instantly, as the machine surges with power. Fans hum, lights flicker, pistons jerk and shudder. The machine rises awkwardly, on legs with too many knees. Limbs laden with ordinance wave at the air, to find balance. An array of diodes flicker with energy, eventually resolving into a child's image of a smiling face. The machine turns its illuminated head to Bugginz, and roars through a mis-matched set of vocalizers:
"KONNICHI WA, BUGGINZ-SAN"
>>44608624
Thank you for that. The mental image... Its truly beautiful.
How would you react if your player's came to you with homebrew race and said they all want it inserted into your fantasy world? For discussion purposes let me give some examples:
>Beastfolk
>Humans with wings and spikes all over
>A Pokemon
>A fairy-like race
>Something with fast healing or such as a racial trait
>Divine blessed race
>Abyssal cursed race (not tieflings)
>Undead
>Sapient chickens
>>44608209
>Beastfolk
Depends on the beast. ask for a picture for referance
>Humans with wings and spikes all over
We already have that
>A Pokemon
No
>A fairy-like race
Not as a playable race and it will be a fucking scary thing from older stories.
>Something with fast healing or such as a racial trait
We already have that.
>Divine blessed race
Not as a playable race.
>Abyssal cursed race (not tieflings)
No. That's what tieflings are for.
>Undead
We already have that
>Sapient chickens
No
>>44608209
Sounds like it's time to play Gamma World Classics, to be honest.
Assuming I wasn't running human only and generic DnD/PF
>Beastfolk
Fine
>Humans with wings and spikes all over
No, but I might let you become one or something.
>>A Pokemon
No, save it for when we try out a Pokemon system
>>Something with fast healing or such as a racial trait
Fine honestly. Fast healing isn't going to save you in serious combat and it's saving the party a minuscule amount of money. Everyone just buys a fucking wand of CLW anyway, which is basically infinite because by the time you run out you've made enough cash to buy several more and gear yourself out.
>Divine blessed Race
No, but I'll let it be a trait/feat/template. I always felt that Tieflings/Aasimer/Genesai should have been templates instead of full blown races
>>Abyssal cursed race (not tieflings)
See above
>Undead
Sure
>Sapient chickens
Chicken type tengu/beastfolk, sure.
Actually sapient chickens, no.
I claim-a this land in the name-a of Spain!

Conquistadors were badass. I would love to play a conquistador campaign.

>>44607592

>>44607592

>>44607690

>the distant fighter sounds his horn, signalling that he's been surrounded and requires your aid
>>44607570
Fucking fighter. What do you want to bet he "accidentally" put on the Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity and wants another Remove Curse?
I told him not to go off by himself
>>44607570
Forth! Down fear of darkness! Arise! Arise, Riders of Théoden! Huge guts shall be ripped, flesh shall be torn! A sword day... a red day... and the sun rises! Rip and tear now... Rip and tear now... Rip and tear! Rip and tear for ruin and the world's ending! Death!"
What is closest Star Wars table top rpg to Dungeons and Dragons? I've been trying to find out, but cant seem the get a straight answer.
Well you're not exactly asking a straight question. Do you mean the Star Wars tabletop RPG with rules closest to D&D?
If specifically 3.x, there was an actual Star Wars RPG with 3.x rules, only splitting HP into two stats. I believe Saga edition is a refinement and better overall. Note that Jedis tend to be kind of overpowered here, which is fine if you're a prequel fan.
WEG might be better suited for original trilogy and expanded universe. In this case you want 2nd edition revised and expanded.
FFG's may be the best Star Wars RPG, even if I personally find it slightly cluttered.
Outside of these options, you can always run Star Wars with D&D rules and basically no magic items?
>>44606363
Pretty sure Saga edition is what you'd want.
>>44606363
Wizards of the coast's revised edition is what you want. Saga edition is closest to 4e and all that that entails.
What kind of adventurer was your father /tg/? Will you follow in his footsteps?
>>44606327
>What kind of adventurer was your father /tg/?
>born in Seattle to a WW2 Navy firefighter.
>Lived in Japan on a Navy base as a kid in the 1950s.
>Joined the Merchant Marines fresh out of high school during the Vietnam War. Ran 500-lb bombs to Korea and broken hardware back to the States.
>came back to the States, became a cop.
>After that, became a long-haul trucker until he met my mom.
>Became a cattle rancher in North Dakota, had me, got back into trucking working for the National Park Service
Fuck that noise, I'd rather not be pissed off about how shitty my work is every day.
>>44606412
I was talking about your current character in whatever roleplaying game your are playing.
>>44606327
No.
He's a nice guy, owns his own business. Does well for himself. No luck on the marriage front - three divorces. Grounded, sober, pretty kind to most people.
I am none of those things. I would not do well walking in his shoes.
I've got an idea for a game and I'm trying to figure out why a small city would be targeted for destruction. Doesn't need to be "nuked" per se, just somehow totally decimated or made uninhabitable
My best ideas so far are:
>Military containing some sort of virus
>Military containing THE MOLE-MEN
>Government preventing an alien invasion
>Evil villain using a death ray to make a point
>Meteorite?
The point being the players have to escape the city before it happens. They can't stop it.
>>44606235
>goverment false flag attack to increase arms sale
Activate scenario 12D
>>44606235
How about a volcano?
>Government preventing an alien invasion
How does destroying a city prevent an alien invasion? I mean, you can nuke the aliens if they're in the city, but they've kinda already invaded at that point
>>44606422
Like, there's one spaceship over this one city and they're using it as a hub. Then the players might also have to deal with the aliens I guess
I dunno man I'm just spit balling here. It sounds fun to me
Volcano could work, adding to my list
Been working on my own card game for shits and gigs,
Would making a "card game for keeps" be considered gambling (I.e. I killed your monster and keep it)
Wasn't marbles played this way?
Self bump
>>44606216
It's gambling. Mtg had it with ante, and it's illegal in the US, so they had to universally ban every card that referenced ante and remove the mechanic from the game.
>>44606351
Okay, right, but what if instead of taking opponent's cards you can swap them for your own? Like taking a good one for one of your shitty ones. Legally speaking, would that be a workaround?

Only played 3 dnd/pth games so far, all ended at like level 7.
So, I'm curious how often reaching lvl 20 is and what actually happens after that. No leveling? Multiclassing? Divinity?
Nobody has ever reached level 20 from level 1, anon. I think the world record is 17.
>>44605692
Ok but what if?
>>44605797
Hard to say. My 5e group hit 13 recently and collectively decided that we were too powerful and it was making the game boring. Our plan was just to allow players to keep taking levels in any class they haven't hit 20 in.
