So how do Space Marines actually matter in the 40k Universe?
Consider the scale. The population is untold billions spread across an enormous swath of space. There's only around a million marines who are really just kind of off doing whatever they want to.
How are they ever at the right place to be an effective force? It's like having a single SWAT unit for all of the US who is on a continual roadtrip across asia.
I know, I know, trying to make sense of 40K, but this is just the thing that's always bothered me most about the lore. There should be a lot more of them, they should actually be coordinated, or they should almost always show up too late to do shit.
>>44604851
Its just a game.
Writers will just call it karma, chaos or some other bullshit to explain all those coincidences.
They are the scalpel.
>>44604910
Owning a scalpel that's in LA when you're in NYC doesn't help much, does it?
Build a Novice Class for your classed system. (Class designed to teach players how to play, and give them a taste of what other classes might offer. Before allowing players to trade in any levels gained for any of the more specialized classes.)
Hard Mode: Give the option to become a Super Novice.
>>44604691
>for your classed system
I don't have enough smug anime girls for this post
>>44604708
Well building a class doesn't work for a classless system now does it?

Do you have what it takes to be a Martian?
Nah, I barely passed high school chemistry.
I like mars bars
I wasn't born on Mars, so, no.
Help me, I am in a group who are currently describing their characters fucking each other. They have been being Mary Sues this whole time and the DM is just rolling with it. I am a level 5 cleric, how do I derail this.
What is your god? Interrupt it with stupid shit like saying they should marry. Call them heretical or some other bullshit.

You're intelligent, nihilistic and with a wicked sense of humor?
Let's argue over whether or not certain ideas are too snowflake. Doesn't matter the system or game, hell maybe even a story you're writing. We'll also pontificate on why snowflake is bad at some point and maybe get derailed by some pointless bickering over a point that no one really gives a damn about.
I'll start:
Is it too special snowflake to make a DA successor chapter that shrugs off the whole "we have to kill traitors because we almost traitors" thing in an attempt to discover and restore the original aims of the Dark Angels Legion? Their reason for doing this is that this chapter's leadership thinks abandoning their original mission was disloyal to the Emps and believes that the only real way to redemption is by fulfilling the original purpose for which they were created, not trying to achieve their own agenda.
>>44604080
Yes. 40k is garbage.
Idea:
A campaign where the players share a gestalt consciousness but also share the same HP and spell slot pool. I. E. One gets damaged and they all get damaged and f one uses a 2nd level spell it's taken from their "pool". The "pool" is made up by adding all of their usual HP and spell slots together.
>>44604138
Not too snowflake. Potentially a mechanical nightmare, though. Try it, get back to us.
will future generations look at him like the 21st century Conan?

Can you have outright orgies in games to highlight debauchery without it being lewd?
>>44603774
>Can you have outright orgies in games to highlight debauchery without it being lewd?
SHIT.
THREAD.
>>44603774
This feels like bait, but I'll take it.
I would say so, provided you focus on the debauchery angle. Don't make your players think about how lewd it is, make them think about a tangle of limbs belonging to old, fat, rich bastards and bitches who are so jaded that this is the only way they can get their rocks off anymore.
>>44603774
W40k has Eldar. Then Eldar had Slaanesh.
Exalted also tends to do this. Ancient mythos is riddled with orgies and sex in general, and since Exalted tries to be based off it, orgies and sex are just part of the setting; it's up to the GM to decide their frequency, intensity, and degree of player involvement though.
>I hate Vulkan because he's black
>Leman Russ more like Leman Ruff someone should virus bomb Fenris
>Greenskins are worth more than imperial citizens but I can't kill them so I pretend Gretchin are children
>I wish I was the one to put Emperor on the Golden Throne
>women's rights is a stupid concept
>whitu pigu go home
Jaghatai Khan
wow quite shocking I didn't know he was such a dick
>>44603436
I don't think anyone legit hated Vulkan, even in the lore.
>>44603436
Nobody actually hated Vulkan in the lore before the Heresy, and even then Curze only hated him because he couldn't kill him no matter how hard he tried.
The Khan wasn't really a dick, he was simply his own man with his own concept of honor that differed greatly from his brothers. He had his place in the Imperial war machine, and tried to do what he thought was best for his sons, not himself.
>>44603490
>>44603460
Dear Emperor,
Regarding your son, Jaghatai Khan, I have found that his view regarding the fair treatment of Imperial Citizens to be at unease with the Imperial Truth.
His views against women... are frankly barbaric. Viewing them as no more than cattle and grox herd. And one incident involving a female astropath and cane made of Ork topknot hair has left a number of scars with the several factions of the guild.
And regarding his treatment of those who have melanin affliction are mean. He hates his brother, the primarch Vulkan, with a fiery passion, once naming him BBB... the term of which i will not utter without thorough censorship. He also hates whites, which I found disturbing as 99% of Imperial citizens after destroying most of those who possessed impure genetic structure to be suited with inception for Mankind.
Sincerely,
Imperial Cleric Bobbu Kinfetti
Emperors reply:
...Some hates Vulkan? wtf is this shit, gtfo scrub.
No one cares!! >:{
I'm curious, anyone seen a paladin level "goodguy" arcane caster?
My GM and I were having a discussion about this, his stance being "Of course there are good wizards in roleplays." and mine being "Then where are they?!?!"
In my 7 years of table top roleplaying, I've only ever seen wizard players and npcs be outrightly EVIL or some neutral "Anything for power" bullshit, which usually ends with them making a deal with a Devil/Evil God.
>>44603130
Erm, yes. The current mage contact we have is a quintesntial goodguy. Hells, the entire mages guild is more or less focused on helping the town in one way or another.
It's just rarer to find good guy mages, for precisely the reasons you said. That doesn't mean they don't exist though.
>>44603130
Raging tryhards are often drawn to mechanically powerful classes, and in D&D3.5 et al that happened to be the wizard, that's all there is to that.
>>44603130
I think it's a combination of a few things. First, if you're going to make someone that good, then the temptation is to stick them in a class that reflects it. AKA paladin or cleric.
Second, there's the idea that good mages have been "done to death" a la Gandalf. Of course, the trope is so widely avoided these days that it's no longer true, but that's still the first instinct when people propose it.
Third, there's the fear for NPCs that if you make them a totally good guy that the PCs will walk all over them getting them to do the quest for them or do them favors. "Gimme loot" or "go kill that bad guy for us". A healthy level of haughtiness and risk helps keep the NPC from being a doormat.
Fourth, the typical player character isn't terribly good no matter what the class, unless he's forcibly constrained to be good by rules mechanics or an overbearing DM. And in those cases usually that is only applied to explicitly good classes.
Fifth, power corrupts. Go name a paladin-level good guy politician. Go ahead... I'll wait. Is there any? Back in 2008, Obama was hailed as the Messiah, a superhuman "lightworker" who could heal America's spiritual wounds by sheer power of his own awesomeness. Now, either you believe that all that was a cynical lie to garner votes, or that once in office the pressures of power changed him. Either way, power corrupts. You could easily say the same for any politician, though I can't think of another one who's been upheld as the avatar of all that is good. Most people understand and accept that politicians are morally questionable at best. So are CEOs, religious leaders, leaders of powerful activist groups, university administrators, and celebrities.
So give someone 10-20 levels of wizard, and regardless of who they were when they started out, they'll turn into someone very different.
Once again I bend my mind to how to 'fix' space marine terminators and vets as a whole and with your consideration:
Veteran space marines : WS4 BS4 S4 T4 I4 A2 LD9 Sv3+ Squads 5 men 100pts
(standard marine with +1A +1LD )
You may add up to 5 more Veteran space marines at 20 pts per model.
The Squad may take Terminator armour at +30 pts per model.
Terminator armour gives 2+/5+Sv +1S +1T, relentless, bulky, may not make Sweeping advance
If Terminator armour is not taken, the squad may take Space Marine Bikes at +7pts per model.
Or take Jump packs at +3 pts per model.
The Squad may be upgraded to Vanguard Veterans for +5 pts per model.
They gain +1Ws and Heroic Intervention
The Squad may be upgraded to Sternguard Veterans for +5 pts per model.
They gain +1Bs and Special Issue ammunition
(0 - 1) If the Squad is 5 men or less, and the Army has one Captain (or equivalent) the Squad may be upgraded to Veterans of the chapter for 5pts per model. If the chapter master (or equivalent) is in the army this becomes (0-3).
They gain +1W and Fearless
This is kinda the base of my idea. A general all rounder Vet, shooty Vet, and close combat Vet, with option of terminator armour. Wargear option would open up with different upgrades.
Nothing is set in stone, and I am just spit balling an idea here.
An additional 30 pts for terminator armor is too high. Necron lychguard with sword and board only cost 30 each. And a squad of them would still shit on terminators even with your buffs
>>44602964
veterans need WS/BS/I 5
terminator armor and storm bolters need to not suck
>>44603251
Terminator armor gives 2+/4++ and additional wound. Storm bolters are Salvo 2/4
>Innistrad set
>Victorian horror with various horror tropes
>Beast hunters as a member of a dying church
>Suddenly Shadows over Innistrad
>Clearly going to be Lovecraft-inspired
Is Wizards seriously ripping off Bloodborne?
This is not even bait, it's just nothing.
>>44602333
The similarities are a little suspicious, but I reckon we should wait it out to see how far it goes.
>>44602347
How is it bait? Is it really a coincidence that they do both victorian horror and now lovecraftian horror in the same setting? This is not a regular mixture, anon.
>>44602374
I don't personally mind it, I think it's really fucking cool. But still, are we really just going to get Bloodborne: The Set?
Has there been any spoilers?
Evil Dead just ended the season.
The Expanse has 5 episodes up.
Shannara Chronicles has the pilot.
Beowulf - Return to the Shieldlands one episode
Galavant is 2 episodes into s2.

Hey all,
I have come to a point in a 5e game where my character has essentially released a great evil on the world so that another more widespread evil can be possibly killed. Of course, the great evil released will inevitably be killed, as is the goal for all good vengeance paladins. Should I be forced into oath-breaking for doing so, or was I justified under the tenants of the oaths of vengeance?
>>44597947
You were 100% justified under the tenants of vengeance. Ends justify the means is the rule of the day.
>>44597947
You're good, man. Vengeance often demands you do questionable things. However, I wouldn't be surprised if someone else became a paladin of vengeance to exact revenge on you for releasing said evil. And I would giggle a bit if he ended up releasing some sort of evil in pursuit of said revenge, causing someone ELSE to become a paladin of vengeance, perpetuating the great cycle of destruction, revenge, and releasing evil on the world.
You aren't a "Greater Good" Paladin, you aren't a "Justice and Honor" Paladin you aren't a "Tea and Cupcakes" Paladin, you are Vengeance Paladin.
You swore Vengeance and anything that gets you closer to that Vengeance is KEEPING to your Oath.
It's like TFS Vegeta says.
