So, regarding the Demon Storyteller's Guide being out now, I have a question.
How does one actually PLAY Demon? From what I've read, it feels as if that game rewards passivity. The less you do as a Demon, the safer you are.
If you just do nothing, and live a normal life in your Cover, you won't have any trouble.
You can literally choose not to have any problems, and with the strength of the Covers, it's hard for trouble to come to you.
tl;dr, how do I make a plot in Demon that the PC's can't just say "nah, I'm staying home instead" to.
>>44640182
I think not. Dave said he doesn't like it when people copy OPP formatting. Its conjecture, but I think that means he doesn't like the book formatting and doesn't like seeing it in submissions.
>So one of the things Mage does to encourage people to actually be in the Orders is give a system based on the way you buy items and services with Resources in 2e CofD for "getting stuff out of your Order". Mechanics for requisitioning Tass, borrowing Imbued Items, getting time with Grimoires, access to Merits like Allies, Mentor, and Contacts, all running from your Order Status.
Thank fuck. The one thing that always confused me about Mage society was how their economy worked. Do any 1e books go into buying and trading of goods?
>>44640332
>Do any 1e books go into buying and trading of goods?
The only thing that borders it is the mage meeting ground/shop in Boston, where they sell Tass for $10 000 per unit.
Here's how it goes: You post an idea for a tricky encounter you want to throw at your party. Include party strength and setting.
Others post how they would overcome it and give feedback.
I'll start with a simple one:
>in a damp jungle
>First level party, low magic
>a faceless treant knight follows the party around (basically a walking branch in armor), swinging a greatsword at them.
>He is not bothered by any arrows or physical damage and his limbs are covered with armor so they're hard to cut off.
What would you do?
>>44639970
The trick here is that you included 'damp' in the description. I'll use that detail to assume that it's fairly easy to find muddy places, and then lure the rather heavy (armor!) adversary into either a mudpit, or into a muddy ground, pretty much wrecking its mobility. If there's the possibility of a muddy hill I can toss it off of, even better.
At level 1 if it's immune to physical damage, most parties won't even have the means to handle it since magic use by that point (assuming some manner of dnd/pathfinder. Always remember your system, anon!), so the encounter wasn't meant to be won so much as neutralized.
>>44639970
Stand hacking at it until tpk, bitch about GM being a railroading faggot.
Duh.
Burning Hands is a cantrip.
>PC is a evil kobold assassin that is super loyal to another good PC (a fem barbarian) and has no kobold tribe of his own so he just treats the party as his "tribe".
>party fights against giants and some mercenaries, one of them is a barbarian fem kobold.
>one party member makes a funny remark on her being a potential mate for my character, which I decide to go for it (this is the perfect way to make my PC non evil for the future and many kek's where gained from this).
>tell party not to kill her and we manage to capture her.
How can I continue this without it being too "Magical Realmy" ?
And how the hell can my LE kobold start a relationship with a CE kobold that we kidnapped ?
A mutual changing of morals- typically gained through shared suffering.
Or, depending on the "lawfulness" of your kobold, he could try and show her his view of the world, why he has no kobold tribe, etc.
Kobold courtship rituals, involving lots of yelling, conciliatory gifts of shiny rocks, and weird dances.
>>44639892

Yes.

Honestly? I've always gone with no but never brought it up unless I was specifically asked
I have been seeing alot these super hero mini's and they look amazing. Just wanted to know if anyone on here has any experience with the models and the rules. i can always homebrew but thats a last resort.
>>44639670
Never played it, but the general consensus on /tg/ is that it's a good game, but it's extremely hard to find other players. Which to be fair is a problem that nearly every miniature game has.
>>44639670
Why is that model placed on a base that's way too small for it, and when did Riddler have a mech? Was it in Arkham Knight or something?
>>44639714
Yes
Let's have a "meeting scenarios" thread so we can avoid the tried and true "you meet in a tavern" cliché.
Last session I ran did a twist on the tavern and now I need a new hook but I'm stuck.
What was the twist?
I just make the players work out how they know each other during character creation, and start the games a short way into the first quest.
>>44639624
Yeah, working it out with the players is a good idea. You can get some interesting character relationships that way.
Having them all be hired by the same employer is another classic.
>all the (scaled to your level) wights have magic items
>>44638659
>>44638659
That is not at all what I imagined the barrow-wights looked like. That just looks so...silly
>Use almost all points in character creation to get a good magical item
>roll extremely well on the random item table
>get a Ring of greater Invincibility
>dm missreads it as invissibility
>refuse to admit that he is wrong
>gets mad at me
>all major enemies have feats that allow them to detect invissible foes
>mfw i now play as essentially a commoner with a fancy ring
Welp. Atleast i got some good armour as pitty loot after i was forced to burn a fatepoint to survive one of the first encounters
Welcome back for another Late Night Random Civ Thread special! I'm you host, OP and tonight we're going to be starting off from the last part we ended at:
One of your spearmen decide to muster up some gut and push into the darkness. He takes a step in, breaching the darkness with his hide boot. A sound comes from within, a breeze. Nothing. The spearman walks around, getting used to the extreme dark and realizing these are just ruins. Nothing of value in any of the buildings. The spearman emerges from the darkness, unscathed, and waves to the warriors in the forest. All of a sudden a strong snow storm blows in. The wind is extremely strong and causing your warriors to have hard times seeing in front of them. What would you have your troops do?
>B) Bunker down in the buildings
Your troops decide to bunker down in the houses, not wanting to get lost in a blizzard. The houses are small, yet cozy. Your troops start to search the houses, searching for anything of value. The darkness doesn't help with their search, but their eyes are slowly adjusting.
Roll a 1d100
>Rolled a 12
Your troops find nothing of value in the house, realizing that these buildings are basically ruins. Your people are intrigued though, the use of stone to make houses. It's actually quite warm in these houses, and much cozier than the hide tents. The troops start settling down for the night, ready to wait out this blizzard.
With the troops in the stone buildings trapped because of the harsh winter outside, the settlement continues it's everyday life. Life moves on without the soldiers, for now.
A tribal council meeting has started, and several motions have been brought up by the village:
>1) Improve the living standards in the settlement
>2) Instate the Ku-fee religion as the settlement's main religion.
After the motions were brought up, the tribal council started to convene about the direction the town should should for the next half year:
Turn 9: Year 5
>Settlement Government:Tribal Council, Ku-fee influence
>Population: 388; 190 Ku-fee Followers
>Food: 6 Turns worth
>Water: Infinite amount left because of river supply
>Shelter: Hide tents
>Military: 70 men armed with stone spears; 30 are at Riveria, 25 are at the settlement, 20 in the Forest
>Defenses:None
>Technology:Hide tents; stone spears; fire; government; knowledge of basic fishing; Ku-fee; knowledge of Ku-fee; basic fishing equipment; basic calendar skills; basic language skills
>Season:Winter
>Locations of Interest: Cave(Frozen Over); Black Tablets(Frozen Over); Ku-fee Berry Bushes; Forest
>Misc.:1 raft
Nearby Settlements: Riveria, population of 75
*Because of Winter, you can only make one choice.*
A)Improve food supply
B)Improve Settlement(Defenses, homes, etc.)
C)Improve military(Train)
D)Scout(Say which direction you wish to scout in)
E)Improve technology

Hey fellow fa/tg/uys, I'm thinking about jumping into this Soni finally have an excuse to build a Dwarf army. I have a few questions though.
Is the game any fun? Like, is this the four hour grind/rules argument that is Warhammer/40k?
Are the rules any good? Are the factions balanced at all or are there one or two top dogs and then everyone else?
Are dwarves any good?
Lastly, what point limit do you usually play at?

Hey /tg/ maybe you can help me out. I'm working on a superhero campaign for some players in the very early planning stages. The villain, or one of the main ones, is an idea I thought was interesting based on the old Marvel Sleepwalker character.
The basic idea is this villain is your average everyday salaryman office worker guy. But every night when he sleeps, he entirely unknowingly, projects his id complete with his repressed feelings of inferiority, anger, and need to be in control in the form of a Supervillain who becomes the embodiment of his worst emotions and qualities.
I'm still in the early planning stages so I'm debating on whether or not to play this villain up as a comically large ham, or make him genuinely sinister, or some combination of the two. The idea is that he would be a reoccurring villain who seems to be impossible to stop, as his nature is at first unknown and seems to defy logic - if killed, his body vanishes soon after. If locked up, he vanishes at the start of the day, as the salaryman stops dreaming. I intend to confuse players, dropping hints he might be a vampire or something at first.
What I need - besides a suitable name and schemes for this villain - is a powerset and a way for the PCs to eventually discover his true nature, and to confront and defeat him. I see 3 possible victory scenatios: 1. Kill the innocent and unwitting civilian. Edgy but efficient. 2. Convince the civilian of what is going on and get him into therapy to sort out his issues while simultaneously foiling the dream villains plans and attempts to stop the heroes, or 3. Psychically project into the civilians mind and do battle with his inner demons right there on their home turf, ending them semi perminantly.
Ideas? Thoughts? Random superhero RP stuff?

>I'm still in the early planning stages so I'm debating on whether or not to play this villain up as a comically large ham, or make him genuinely sinister, or some combination of the two.
Depends on the overall tone of your game and how much of a threat you want to make him. Beyond that, it would be interesting if the answer to stopping this threat is to tell some dude to get therapy. It would be more dramatic to have the party psychic(s) take the rest of the party into this guy's mind for the big finale.
>>44637162
Would a psychic be able to read the mind of the Id-villain? Maybe pick up some of the memories that sparked the anger and insecurity that spawned him?
What are some neat enchanted items?
My party saved an elf from being murdered (by breaking the curse on the hitman they sorta hired on purpose to whack her) and so I wish to have her give them a choice between an enchanted item or something, or to enchant their weapon, but straight +1 to things
I remembered a past few threads and have used some;
Ring of Invulnerability - the ring is invulnerable to harm. Nothing else.
Death Tongue Staff - upon finding a dead opponent, the user can opt to smash in the skull and brain of the creature/being, which allows them to speak to the spirit of the deceased
Stuff like tattoos are cool too, i dont want too strong because theyre only level 2 in Basic Fantasy but i also wanted some unique stuff that wouldnt be in the book i could tailor to fit the characters.
One thing I rarely see but personally love are either gems or tattoos made for storing one item inside of their magic. Basically allowing people to sneak in weapons, gear and other things but very limited to one item and only arounf X weight. For the tattoo it's cool if it can only hold similar items to the image or if the image changes depending on the item.
>>44637154
Ring of Empathy: Allows anyone wearing one of the set to sense another person's mood. Good for parties on a budget, as it allows them to know how the others are doing without needing the complexity of a sending spell or the like.
Also removes any chance of awkward sexual tension
>>44639527
>>44637154
>tattoo scrolls
...that's fucking genius.
How would you run a True Detective S1 campaign?
D20 modern but the real key is to have very dedicated role players who make flawed and eccentric but believable characters and a DM willing and capable of writing and directing a mystery adventure without the players getting lost or going completely off the rails.
Basically getting it right is a perfect storm of writing and acting and there was no what they would get lightening to strike twice with a second season.
Something like this would be so freaking cool
>>44637050
Simple. Start it out with everything very normal and gritty
>use some mundane rpg system (no magic i mean)
>Players are cops/reporters/feds/etc... chasing crazy serial killer.
>Shit is fucked up.
>There are references to a wider and wider conspiracy protecting killer.
>arc words happen.
>keep up for roughly 3 sessions
>end of third session is showdown with killer
>why are there 2 moons?
>was that lake there before?
>Gendo fingers
>this is where the Trail of Cthulhu Character sheets are handed out
> Real campaign begins.
Your move, /tg/. First move to get 3 votes goes.
