I always thought it was not really possible to have a monster that could challenge modern military fire teams directly without nonsense like force fields or outright invisibility.

Then I saw this abomination.

Monster Hunters is all about challenging a party of 400+ point murder machines.

Even for those guys a Chryssalid-Xenomorph hybrid is a bit of a scare, though they really slowed down their reproduction cycle. I'd be quite tempted to ramp it back up.

You decide to keep your reply concise:

“Life on the Pearl has been interesting. The crew and I are acclimating just fine. I’ve charted several routes in the Expanse that should bring House Girad both status and contracts. I’ll send them along next time I’m in port. Nothing else of note thus far.”

You then encrypt your message using one of the standard House ciphers and pass it along to the Pearl’s Astropathic Choir. With any luck it’ll arrive after a couple of weeks. Not that you’re expecting a reply. Short of a landmark route there’s really not much to discuss with your family. Especially since you can’t exactly tell them you’re going out and about on away missions. They’d throw an absolute fit if they knew you were taking risks like that. So what they don’t know won’t hurt them.

“Will the following personnel please report to the briefing room…”

Speaking of away missions… Darell, Ruhr, and you are called up along with Forgal. It seems to be the standard party composition now, not that you’re complaining. Any chance to stretch your legs and explore a little is fine by you. And you couldn’t ask for a better Astropath or Arch Militant to accompany you.

Once you’ve all arrived in the briefing room just off of the bridge, Hillbrant walks in. He strides right over to the vid-screen and turns it on. Several live-feeds from both shipboard sensors and scouting servo-skulls quickly fill the screen.

“Gentlemen, we have a bit of a mystery on our hands,” he says. “I’ll let Forgal explain.”

Forgal stands up and joins Hillbrant at the screen. The feeds change to show the surface of the dark blue planet. It’s a textbook Death World landscape: jet-black rocky outcroppings, violent plasma storms, and an inhospitable atmosphere. Every once and awhile a discharge from a storm causes the feeds to be taken over by static.

++Sensors indicate that the surface should not contain life,++ Forgal begins. ++Or that what life there is largely lives underground.++

“Right, that’s to be expected,” interjects Ruhr. “Or are you about to tell us some giant sandworms live there?”

++No. Something much more interesting.++

One of the servo-skulls’ cameras zooms in on a rock wall. At first you’re not sure what you’re supposed to be seeing. Then your eye catches an unnatural corner. And another. Soon after you’re able to pick out what looks to be a small town or village carved into the rock face.

“Oh my,” Yen whispers from behind you.

++Yes. There appears to be an indigenous population. Or that there used to be one. It’s hard to tell with the interference from the storms.++

“So, naturally, we get to go play detective and possibly archeologist,” says Ruhr. “Sounds like fun.”

“Speak for yourself,” counters Darell. “You forget we’ll be cooped up in void suits the entire time.”

Hillbrant chips in, “Yes, well, precisely because of that I wouldn’t think any less of anyone if they wanted to sit this one out. Just remember though - you forfeit any claim over whatever loot we dig up if you do.”

There’s a moment of silence as everyone looks around at everyone else.

(OOC: This is a bit of an experiment. This quest's system will be pokemon-ish with some of Breeding Season's mechanics into it.)

You ride your bike down the street, and park it next to the mess of turbocycles, jetrides and a few tied-up hoverboards. Then, discreetly, you wander toward the small alley next to it, and soon an enthusiastic murmur starts to build as you approach a bunched up crowd further ahead.

You soon reach the main, hidden plaza where all the people were at. They surrounded the small arena in the middle, talking to each other, tending their cocks, making bets and just chatting. The main event - the cock fighting, hadn't started yet.

Like some of the other people here - you're a rooster breeder - your passion is to raise cocks for cock fights!

However, so far, you haven't had the opportunity to really have your skills shine. Until now, you've only been a cock assistant for your big brother. However, he has recently gone abroad to study for college - you've taken it as destiny pushing you to become independent and shine as a cock breeder!

You still don't have a fighter of your own though! But you do have three hens that your bro left you, back home. All you need is rooster, and you'll soon have a few more fighter cocks at your disposal! Back in the day, it took quite a while for a hen to hatch eggs, but nowadays, it's pretty quick, and it only takes a couple hours due to advancements in genetic modifications and the egg production industry.

You've saved up some money to buy your first rooster. There are several sellers around here today who would gladly sell you a good cock for breeding, but you only have enough money to buy *one*.

>Leghorn: High attack power, ferocious and quick. However, they're more vulnerable to attacks than others. They're the most popular kind.
>Jersey Giant: These guys are huuuge, but slow. They're strong and resilient too.
>Rhode Island Red: Fast, hard to beat down but not very strong. These dudes defeat opponent by stamina attrition. They're not very popular, but they're still effective fighters.

You've never been good with children. Ironic, really, given your own tender age. You wouldn't know how to keep a child amused – what do children like these days, anyway? - and you definitely don't know how to stop them from crying.

And when the child is a demon, the problem only increases. When that demon is a young and temperamental death goddess, you've got all the ingredients for a serious problem – and that's the situation you've found yourself in. Alice, her eyes blasted by the brilliant radiance of Dominion's holy light, is sobbing hard, her tears mixing with the blood from where she had clawed at her face. By her side, cooing soft words of comfort is Nadja – another demonic child, this one thankfully easier to deal with.

Standing on the sidelines, equally awkward with his rigid posture, is Eligor. A demonic knight, towering over everyone around him, the devil remains silent as he watches Alice's tantrum. A wise move, considering what she's capable of. When Nadja abandons her murmuring and simply casts a warm glow of healing magic over Alice's wounds, the weeping child finally calms.

Even Eligor allows himself a slight slump as some of the tension lifts.

“Human,” he rumbles after a while, with the curious tone of a question, “It's rare to see humans in this world – and it's always a sign of interesting times. Worms gnawing at the roots of the world, a lotus flower blooming in the depths of the earth and now human warriors...” the knight barks out a hard laugh, “Never before have I grasped so much honour, or so many triumphs! Are you, too, having as much fun as I am?”

Fun, you repeat numbly, barely able to bring yourself to reply. You're having a little difficulty seeing the fun in all this, where every fight might very well be a life or limb situation. You wince inwardly at that turn of phrase seconds after thinking it to yourself. Bad choice of wording, perhaps. You just don't know how to respond to the knight – you don't even trust yourself to reply at all, lest your words end up as bitter curses.

Welcome distraction comes in the form of a petulant wail, as Alice burns out the last of her tantrum in spectacular style. “I'm tired!” she gripes, once her energy has been spent, “I want to go home. I want to go to bed.”

That's your excuse to leave, for when you want to cash it in. Still, once you move past his warlord demeanour, you sense something about the devilish knight that almost strikes you as... good. Honourable, perhaps, which is a rare thing to credit a devil with. Besides, you fought side by side with him against the angels – that has to count for something, right?

“Human...” Eligor repeats, looking down upon you with burning eyes, “You're not the first human I've fought beside. But never mind that - tell me, young one, do you have questions for me?”

You are Jareth, Disciple of Elshhu and sworn enemy of one particular artificer who can't let go of grudges. It's not like you even did anything all that bad, certainly nothing deserving of threats of violence carried out by large stony servitors. Oh well, that should be the last you'll see of her for a while anyway, you have your doubts she'll be walking the experience off for a few days.

Meanwhile, you find yourself on the side streets some distance from Golem Way with an unconscious dwarf in your arms. Seems you got chased quite a way, far enough that you don't recognize the street, but it should be easy enough to find your way back onto the main roads if you look around a bit.

Something tells you that Hilda's going to need some time to recover herself, which means that your fun day out is probably going to have to come to a close for now, and barely a couple of hours after meeting up. Shame, but there's nothing you can do about it. You should probably find her somewhere to rest, and since you are most definitely not going up to the Sisterhood Chapterhouse to hand her over, you're going to have to figure something different out.

>Last time, on Digimang Quest.

Dash and co. beat up a giant squid demon, after it tried to grab his friend, leading to Dash getting his ass quite thoroughly handed to him by a flailing tentacle.

After a lack of appreciation from the slimy ship captain, they were shoved into a town full of sentient turds, with clues to find more humans, whom they quickly found near starved to death in a nearby bar.

After exchanging some pleasantries and unpleasantries, the group decided to track down a giant spider in hopes of gaining more favour with their ally, but first stopped on their way to acquire a faster means of travel.

With their new jeep fixed, the group are ready to hit the road!

Only one problem still plagues the group. Only one of you know’s how to drive stick, and she’s in a rather unhelpful mood without any breakfast.

“Why didn’t any of you chumps learn stick?” Eva demands from the back seat, her foot incessantly kicking into the back of your seat.

“Well... it’s hard.” Jeff gives as a rather self conscious defence.

“I haven’t even had my first lesson.” You shrug, “My parents don’t drive anymore, they went full eco friendly a while back.”

Casey stays silent on the issue, but shakes her head, popping the clutch and wiggling the stick around randomly.

The blonde in the back seat rolls her eyes, her usual aggression returned now that last night’s storm has passed. “I see how it is, you’re expecting me to carry all of you, aren’t you?” She tosses her hair over her shoulders, “I don’t even want to go see this stupid spider in the first place! It nearly killed us!”

Given the Space Marines can be killed by the fucking Tau of all people if you gave a Spartan a high powered weapon like the Tau have then I'm sure a Spartan could beat a Space Marine in combat.

Given I'm the UNSC still uses shit like 7.62 in the 2500s only shit like the Spartan Laser or Railgun from the UNSC arsenal would probably come close to packing enough punch.

I was a Kickstarter backer for the game Darkest Dungeon, which I'm sure /tg/ knows all about. Long story short I have one week to create a character and have him or her added to the game as one of the heroes who will descend into the depths. I asked /vg/ but they don't give a fuck anymore, so you guys get to be the silver medal. Darkest Dungeon is pretty fuckin' close to being /tg/ related anyway, so that's why I'm letting you guys in on the process.

We will get to choose things such as class/gender, name, skills, mental illnesses, and so on. We'll use straw poll and do this diplomatically. I'll check each result every 24 hours and come back to make a new poll.

Remember, we only have one week, so if you want to be a part of this then you gotta VOTE. The first vote for class/gender is here: http://strawpoll.me/6461645/

Wait, so you get to make a character, as in not a custom class or enemy or anything, just a character (as in a preset name that will get changed anyway and some arbitrary stats that will get overridden with sanitarium and items)?
