Why talk about things you enjoy when you could rage about things you don't? As always normal non salty discourse of board games/deckbuilders/etc is welcome here

I spent the last 4 hours reading and rereading the rule to Paths of Glory. I don't own the game, I don't plan to, and I have nobody to play with, but I'd absolutely be up for a game.

For what it's worth, I don't think I've ever once seen people play games of that sort in my area like, ever. Everyone tends to favor euro styles heavily though, that and light stuff, so I guess it's probably why. Still, I need to sit down one day and try one. I think a giant game of axis and allies sounds fun, but I guess that's not the same. Still need to play that too, lol.

So for Christmas, I got a bunch of books on Algonquian wendigo folklore, which I have devoured. I would love to share a lot of the cool material within with /tg/, for use in campaigns, but I am unsure of where to start. Also, I have to be in bed in a little under three hours if I'm going to get to work on time tomorrow.

So if /tg/ has any questions in the next three hours it would like to ask about wendigos, please feel free. If you have a question and I miss it, I'll check the archive and try to answer it in a follow-up thread tomorrow.

How do I make a wendigo pc?

On a serious note, just how dangerous is a wendigo if we have a guy who can bend the laws of nature to his will, a robot that never sleeps, and a guy who can communicate with the Deep Ones?

And how many types of wendigo are there?
>>
>>44551706
Not OP, but talking from experience. It depends on the level of the PC's. A wendigo makes a brilliant BBEG to a reasonably low-level party, but the moment they're even on-par with it, it's a middling threat at best.
>>
>>44551763
Skinwalker, can perfectly imitate voices, extremely fast, horrifying, expert at hiding, among other things. I'm pretty sure a wendigo can be more than just a middling threat. The older they get, the more dangerous they are, right? That's how they work, isn't it? Can you imagine what would happen if they worked in pairs, or as a group? I'm shivering at just the thought of it.

(Forgot to put part 2 in the title RIP)

Your spearman rest a bit to cook up some Ku-fee. They all decided to take a little more grind from their Ku-fee pack, just in case things get hairy. Most of the men, if not all, snort the grind, becoming twitchy but having better reactions, and also drink a cup.

They pack up their Ku-fee bags and start to march into the forest. Right before they are about to enter the men from the fisherman huts come over to your spearman, and want to join the hunting band. They are equipped with fishing spears.

The now 19 strong band of soldiers march into the forest. Some of them learned basic tracking skills from the deer hunts that took place while the deer herd was still outside the settlement. Though they aren't finding any wolf trails. They move further and further into the forest, fanning out to see if they can find anything.

Your spearman have noticed that the fisherman people have disappeared, not making a sound. Before your spearman could make the decision if they wanted to move further or not, a roar comes from within the forest. All your spearman turn to face the noise, finding themselves facing a pack of wolves. But these wolves are odd, they're standing on two legs, all of them. They almost look like a man whose is absurdly hairy, though they are stubby. Probably the height of around half a grown man.

One of the Wolfman lets out a howl, following that is a chorus of howls.

The Wolfman get on all fours and start to charge you

Roll 1d100 for a moral and defense check. Higher the number the better your spearman are prepared to repel this attack.

(You guys rolled a 86 I think so I'm going to add 40 to the roll for this)

Could some people who are more familiar with the 40k setting settle a small dispute for me? Discounting possible variations in fighting style, tactics, etc., would this be a somewhat even fight? Not completely on par, but with each side having a reasonable chance of victory. They’re fighting over a fortress/light manufacturing planet with very variable topography.

>Attacking force
200 Astartes (including an entire 1st company)
1,250 Sororitas (basically one whole minor order)
3,000 Skitarii and other Mechanicum forces
4 Imperial Knights
16,000 Guardsmen (one infantry and one siege regiment)
1 Ordo Malleus Inquisitor+Retinue (“leads” the task force)

All of these include full artillery, vehicle, and naval support. I don’t know how many ships it would take to transport such a force, but I’m assuming it isn’t that many.

>Defending force
~1000 Chaos Space Marines
Over 20,000 Cultists
A small amount of daemons (will probably increase over time)

These guys are less organized and well-equipped, but they also have the home field advantage, ground defenses, and experience working together, unlike the Imperium force. The planetary guns they’ve got are dangerous enough that the Imperial ships can’t stay over the important part of the planet for more than a few minutes at a time without risking destruction. So this is going to be a land war, essentially.

Fluffwise Chaos would easily win that.
>>
>>44616864
>>44617009
if they got the daemons out there's a god chance there's an entrance to the warp opens which means the imperium's going to need to mobilize a lot more forces space marines might be able to handle the chaos mariens and demons but the other chaos forces will be causing havoc all over the planet that the guard and sororitas will need to take on
>>
>>44616864
Fluff-wise or rules-wise ?

For me it all depends on the Skitarii, since they go from "barely augmented guardsmen" to "terminator in anything but name, but with additional weaponry on mechadendrites"

The room is completely silent.

Irene's sitting on the couch, waiting for me and Theresa to pass judgement on her. And while I can't speak for Theresa, I'm really at a loss here. From everything that Irene just told me, her sister has every reason to hate her. I mean, if something happened to Allison and the voice in my head tried to take her place, I'd probably never forgive it.

After what seems like forever, I finally manage to sort out my thoughts, breaking the silence with a long groan.

"Irene..." I turn to her, "what you did was really messed up."
"It was," Irene nods.
"And I can't blame Katrine for hating you at all."
"Neither can I," she replies with a pained smile.
"But when it comes to -me-, you've never done anything other than be as nice as you possibly can and gone out of your way to help out when I was in trouble."
"Eh?"

Irene stares at me with a look of total disbelief.

"So you're not going to tell me to get out of your house?" she asks.
"What? No, why would I-" I stop myself and take a deep breath. "What I'm trying to say is that while -she- might have every reason to hate you, -I- don't. And since I'm pretty sure you're a better person than you were back then, I'm going to assume that you wouldn't do anything to change that."

You’re not sure how long passes before your squad eventually shows up. All the while watching the motionless corpse, like watching a movie.

It’s real, it’s not real, it’s real, it’s not real.

“Target neutralized, gear intact. We’re going to need a pickup at…”

It’s real.

The surreal separation ends, and you’re still there, kneeling before the man you murdered. The heavy weight of emotion presses down on your chest.

Ivan checks over the body, and subtlety secures something that it was carrying, Blissless crosses her arms and looks back toward the direction of the academy. Luca wraps an arm around you and helps you to your feet. But you, you can’t stop gazing at the awkwardly contorted corpse.

The transport finally appears over the sea to the west, silhouetted by the quickly setting light.

Sadness?

No, that’s not right. That’s not what won’t leave you now.

Regret?

Closer, but still, no.

Anger?

Yes. But at what?

The shadows don’t ever seem to leave the transport, even as it hovers just overhead. It’s only the hum of its engine, and the rapidly displaced air that tells you it’s finally time to leave this place.

The body?

Someone must’ve taken care of it, because you’re already hovering back over the sea.

A small figure stops in front of you. “Oren, it’s-“

Luca’s sympathetic voice is quickly cut off. He’s moved aside, as Ivan sits across from you.

He waits for you to look up before speaking. “Alann Sardiss.” His words entirely devoid of the usual excessive flair. “Fifth squad deserter, an average performing soldier who became known for his increasing erratic behavior and insubordination.”

“Ivan, maybe now is not the best time.” Luca interjects.

Ivan merely shakes his head before continuing. “Eventually, when en route to a mission, he turned on his fellow squad mates, injuring all three of them, and hijacked the transport vessel, killing the pilot. That’s the man you killed.”

His words hang in the air, even after he said them.

His fingers drum rapidly on the knee of his frame. “They sent our squad, or more specifically, me, because I have experience dealing with such runaways.”

It’s happened before?

“And what happened today, shouldn’t have happened at all…” He takes a sideways glance at Blissless before returning to you. “The consequences of which, will fall upon my shoulders, but you Oren…You did what you had to.”

A thick silence hangs over the four of you as the transport makes its way back to the academy. When you finally do land, Ivan quickly stands before anyone else.

“Go home, Oren.” He picks up his frame’s helmet. “They’ll be wanting a debriefing and…they’ll want to check on you.” He walks to the end of the transport. “But that can wait.”

~

Even with Luca escorting you, the trip back to your dorm was a silent one. As time passes, you begin to feel more grounded in reality, but talking just doesn’t come easy right now, not to mention, the dense pit of undirected anger that lingers within you.

“I’ll be right over here if you need anything.” Luca kindly tries to make gesture seem casual, but the concern in his voice betrays him.

“Thanks.” You reply flatly, before stepping into your room.

You bask in the quiet solitude for a moment, before turning toward the bath.

Would you do it all over if you could?

...

What’s there to redo?

You slide onto your bed, glad that you got through so many of Meiya’s messages that missing a day won’t be too terrible.

The light of the drifting stars filtering through your window is the last sight you see before you close your eyes.

“It’s not your fault.” Ena states, clearly wanting to say more, but leaving it at that for today.

~

The message indicator on your Assistant flashes, and you groggily reach for it.

“Luca says you’re still in your room. I don’t care what you do, go do your debriefing, go check on your frame, or if you’re up for it, you can come spar with me. In any case, get out of your room. That’s an order. –Captain.”

You sigh and note that you have been sleeping for quite some time.

Are you feeling better?

Who knows? Daylight’s burning in either case.

You get out of bed and think about how to start your day.

>Go get your debriefing out of the way.

>Go check up on your frame in the Main Research Center.

>Go spar with Ivan in the training building.

>Write in.

Welcome to Saiyan Quest. This takes place in the years Frieza controlled Planet Vegeta, as the Saiyans grow in strength and try to find a way to free themselves.

Voting will operate on a first to five system, at least for the time being.

Dialogue is allowed to be added to votes, as are actions (though I'll ignore what I consider shitposting)

During battles, options will usually have a number assigned to them. After that vote has won, players will roll a d100, and have three chances to match or beat that number.

If a 100 is rolled, it is considered a crit success (unless 100 was the number you had to match).

If a 1 is rolled, it is a crit failure, regardless of whether or not the other two rolls are high enough to succeed.

If, during a battle, players want to attempt a writein action, that is allowed, but I am the one who will assign the number to it, so use caution

You're a young male Saiyan who fought in the war with the Tuffles. You've become one of the most powerful Saiyans in the universe, but there's still potential for you to grow stronger.

It's been a few short days since you took control of Planet Vegeta.

You've since dealt with the expected resistance, finding that it was easily put down once you made a display of power that demonstrated just how much stronger you are than the previous king. And, the fact that you killed Frieza has gained you plenty of support.

Kamatsuna's been at work connecting Planet Vegeta with the worlds you control so far away. Proper communications have been established, all that's needed is a decision on what to do next.

"We could lead the other Saiyans into Cooler's territory from the North, while Kuriza leads the others from the South," Kamatsuna suggests. "You and a few others could track down Cooler himself while you placed someone else in charge of dealing with Cooler's armies."

Resolved, you open the door and enter the corridor by the stairs of B1.

The little creature, barely two feet tall, meanders about the hallway aimlessly, knocking on whatever surface it can find. It's body is completely covered by a brown cloth completely fashioned together with scraps of dirty patches. The Knocker seems to derive some sort of satisfaction from the surfaces that produce the noises that produce long echoes.

It only notices your entrance when it finishes a series of knocks. "Eh? I ain't never seen a human like you before..." It's voice is surprisingly alto for something of that height. You were expecting something a little more high-pitched given the way Pixie sounds. "Hmmm...you wanna talk? Well...okay then. What should we talk about?."

>04: After a pretty terrible botched, needlessly complicated and fairly comedic murder attempt, the would-be assassin begs and pleads on her knees to the party for mercy confessing she was given a random target to kill in order to join the assassins guild, and in exchange offers the skills of her former profession; a pretty good cook.

I am reposting from the last unsaved thread. Feel free to chime in as you arrive, new posts will be incoming shortly.
--

You are Second Lieutenant CT-42/458, and you are standing in General Kenobi's improvised command center, the basement of an obsolete concrete bunker. Six hours ago AT-TE 7330, the hastily repaired TX-130, and the remainder of the General's forces began the mop up operation of the B-1 battle droid stragglers. Afterwards, a relief force mostly consisting of Loyalist infantry arrived and began the search for survivors as well as taking over the garrison of the location, allowing for Kenobi and your two tanks to retreat back to the main base of Republic operations in the southern hemisphere, Shelter Base.

You have just finished providing your debrief of the battle, which you learned was for the control of the city of Jaxx. You informed him and Commander Cody of all aspects of the battle excluding the discussion with Xtreme concerning Sparks going "off the reservation," Twitch's "marketplace," and other minor details about your first 24 hours in combat. You reexplained the encounter with the lightsaber user in more detail; bringing up Crusader's sword fight with him when the General expressed his disbelief that mere clones were able to defeat a force user. Your report was concise, professional, and above all, utterly exhausting.

You are now standing at attention in a musty, poorly lit concrete room before the General, who is leaning on his hands at the edge of a battered holographic gambling table. On the table is an old paper map of the area, the table deactivated due to the number of fellow troopers running setting up a generator in the corner, running power lines, setting up better lighting and doing everything else to create a proper command center.

Fatigue clings to your muscles and you feel yourself struggle to maintain a stiff posture, though a small part of you is glad to see that the General is sagging with weariness. He rubs his eyes.

"Being caught unprepared by a Separatist attack, by a full division no less, facing nuclear weapons, all with an understrength battalion? It sounds like you had quite the day, Lieutenant, and I'm surprised that you were able to not only survive but successfully repel their assault." Kenobi says before slowly standing back upright. He crosses one arm across his chest and rests a hand on his chin before continuing, "Though unfortunately we suffered severe losses. I am afraid that I may have to label the 4th Battalion as unfit for duty and fold the remaining soldiers into another outfit."

Cody cuts in for the first time. "General, you know the Senate will be breathing down your throat about casualties if you declare the 4th Battalion defunct."

The General sighs, pinching his nose with two fingers. "Yes, I know Commander, but what would you have me do? Reinforcements are spread thin as it is across the Outer Rim!" Kenobi slams his hand down on the edge of the old table, causing you to flinch back. You stay staunchly silent in the discussion.

"The few reinforcements we would receive will be cut off due to the Senate's outrage at the news that a whole battalion was killed nearly to a man on the first day of an invasion, sir." Despite his overly stiff posture and balled fists. Cody does his best to maintain a professional tone.

Kenobi shakes his head, gesturing with his free hand as he speaks. "I am well aware of the situation Commander, I just do not see a way out of it. The chain of command for the 4th Battalion has been completely destroyed, and I can't rightfully send raw enlisted into battles without good officers."

"Sir, not all the officers were lost." Cody turns his attention towards you, nodding his head.

As the General turns to face you, you cannot halt the anxiety from boiling in your gut. Nor can you halt the sliver of excitement as well; in response you subtly straighten your posture.

"You are right, he did lead the defense against the final Separatist assault, and held off an entire battalion with only his walker and Bandit's scout company." After a thoughtful pause, Kenobi whips his head back towards Cody with an incredulous expression. "You are not suggesting we hand over control of the whole battalion to him?"

Cody shakes his head. You hear a gruff chuckle emit from his helmet. "No sir, but stranger things have happened in this war. Until a replacement is comes in from Kamino, CT-42/458 is technically the commanding officer of the 1st Armored Company, and his leadership quotient is high, according to the reports we received from the training instructors." Pride wells up inside of you. You did graduate top of your birthing cycle, after all. "The 4th Battalion can still live on in name, though it would have to work closely with one of the other battalions in future operations." Cody gives you a sidelong look and tilts his head slightly to the side. Though you cannot see, you get the feeling that he just winked at you.

"Well, it is true that a shipment of replacements is arriving in a week," Kenobi says slowly while stroking his beard. You feel uncomfortable at the glint in his eyes. "And while I normally would be concerned about the company's ability to field armor, the repairs on the damaged vehicles are going swimmingly, though sadly not all can be saved. Also, we have to establish the chain of command for the incoming officers." Like a predator locking onto their prey, Obi-Wan Kenobi's eyes lock with yours. You really do not lik-

>>
Tonight is a double feature night.
After Animeted Clothing and Pharaos of Funk killed each other on the pitch (There will probably some waiting time because of all the blood on there)
We have Quickslithers dukeing it out with the Bretonnian Werewolf in Tilea.
The coach of the Werewolf's said that he has a nasty surprise for his opponent.

So... are you not just supposed to play with AI teams when starting out? I mean at Medium Difficulty their players already have 16SPP and learned skills.

Reposting my request for feedback about the balance between these lances.

>Lance 1:
AS7-D Atlas (4/5) – 1897
ZEU-6T Zeus (4/5) – 1436
HCT-3F Hatchetman (4/5) – 854
COM-2D Commando (4/5) – 541
Total: 4728

>Lance 2:
BLR-1G Battlemaster (4/5) – 1519
GHR-5H Grasshopper (4/5) – 1427
TBT-5S Trebuchet (4/5) – 996
HER-2S Hermes II (4/5) – 784
Total: 4726

>Lance 3:
AWS-8Q Awesome (4/5) – 1605
CPLT-C1 Catapult (4/4) – 1609
VND-1R Vindicator (4/5) – 1024
SDR-5V Spider (4/5) – 622
Total: 4860

>Lance 4:
BNC-3S Banshee (4/5) – 1751
JM6-S JagerMech (4/5) – 901
WTH-1 Whitworth (4/5) – 982
DV-6M Dervish (4/5) – 1146
Total: 4780

I did play a test game between Lance 1 and Lance 3 in MegaMek, but it wasn't a very good sample since I was using Forced Withdrawal and the Awesome got two engine crits from a lucky SRM on turn 2.

Lance 2 has a serious overdependence on Medium Lasers and SRMs. Lance 3, meanwhile, has too much ranged firepower and too little point-blank. I dunno how a fight between the two would turn out, but it'd certainly be a mess.

Lance 4 has the problem that all SW lances with the Banshee-S has: the Banshee carries the entire lance. Without it, the remaining lance is junk and gets eaten up by any of the other lances minus their assault. Unsure how I'd fix it, but I definitely wouldn't want that lance.
