So I've been working on a novel for a while now and it's coming along fairly well now. For the purpose of helping with my own work (since it's a sprawling setting) and for possible publication purpose, I'd like to teach myself how to make somewhat realistic world maps (It's a hardish sci-fi set on another planet.)
I was wondering if any of you with experience in map making could direct me towards the necessary resources, programs or otherwise tutorials.
Personal experience would also be appreciated.

It's a hard-ish sci-fi.
Set on a far flung world decades after a bloody civil war forced the last emperor to abdicate.
Basically. A rickety and dysfunctional pseudo-federation has replaced the Empire. There's still an aristocracy in place but the rebels have also established their own popular republic's. They're all nominally allied but the only thing keeping all parties from going at it is the threat of being overtaken by Earth and losing their independence.
It's kinda cyber-punk film noir with the main character's father having strong shades of Charles II while the MC himself is afflicted by cerebral Palsy.

A large box, there is a wooden stick holding it up and a thick rope tied around it. The rope trails to the door that you just came through.
On the box is written in duergar is written dwarf trap. Under the box appares to be a small barrel of ale.

I like the concept of this one because of how it messes with players

We'll create a 3 set block based around the idea of 4chan becoming a plane in Magic the Gathering. The blocks are seperated as a timeline based off of early 4chan to present, and famous 4chan users as legendary creatures and planeswalkers.
Here are the base mechanics we decided to keep:

>You may pay this creature's bait cost to change the target of a spell or ability that targets a creature to this creature.
>Meme
>Target ___ or a spell on the stack. That card and copies of it become Y.
>Spoiler
>You may play this card face down for (2), as a 2/2 vanilla creature. When it blocks or becomes blocked, or becomes the target of a spell or ability your opponents control, turn it
>Implying X
>You may cast this card for its Implying cost if your opponent has played a card this turn with the same CMC
>Digits
>You get Digit counters depending on specific conditions on each card, for example:
>This card gets Digits if you use mana of three different colors to cast it

The God-Emperor has seen us fit to intercept a distress call from a local Mechanicum Explorator fleet, near our current location. As we are currently the closest, and only ship in the area. We are being sent to investigate what's going on, as unfortunately, no one aboard our ship has been able to decipher the encryption of the message.
As such, it is our sworn and sacred duty, to blindly follow after them, and attempt to aid our mechanicum brothers in arms.
So, while we await the ship to transition out from the Warp, I am calling for a mandatory field kit inspection!

Well, to make long story short, I GMed it for a group of pals. We had a few short runs and one super long campaign that span over nearly 3 years, and we played 2-3 times a week.
It's fun, but mechanics are asinine. If you and your group can settle to some homebrewing, go for it. If you wanna go 100% by the book, you're royally fucked even before you started.I have all the PDFs, but it's in Polish.

Welcome to the thread for d20 station, a rules light, medium RP Space Station 13 server.

It's a 2D top down atmospherics simulator with who dun it gameplay layered on top. Each crew member aboard the station has a specific job to perform, while a select few are selected to be traitors (assassin/spy/thief).

You'll need to download the BYOND client.

To connect: Open BYOND, click the gear in the upper right. Click "Open Location" and paste in the IP below (Visual guide: http://i.imgur.com/d9D82fK.jpg).

There's also wikis dedicated to documenting the spaceman way of life, but they vary widely from server to server.

The rules are very relaxed and admins try to take a hands-off approach to administrating. Admins will generally only intervene if someone is explicitly playing to ruin the game. Reminder to read the rules in-game.
>What map/code do you run?
We run a heavily modified Ministation map with mostly custom code. Most jobs on Ministation are merged with similar counterparts and head roles have been re-enabled.
>When does everyone play?
The server only recently came back, so peak times will vary heavily for the time being.
