Could chaos have taken the imperium down during what is now known as the Horus Heresy if none of the primarchs or Imperial forces turned traitor? Could they have just used daemons, xenos and mortal worshippers and not space marines?

Humans are left alive to generate more fuel. It's more efficient that way. Especially when loyalists and adversaries die in tandem with one another.

At the instant moment of the heresy? nope. the sheer size of the imperium could go toe to toe with virtually any force in the galaxy even if they conquered every planet not yet under the emprah's control.

The closest the empire got to losing was when that exact thing happened, but 2000 years after the heresy. The Beast Wars had the empire fight the galaxy's biggest player, a super massive orc waaagh on firm route to galactic conquest that could literally teleport moon sized ships and nearly conquered terra.

Is this worth a listen to? I listened to the first episode and while they do a good bit of world building and tell a decent plot, the audio issues and loosey goosey rules turned me off

I tried listening to the first episode. They started introducing the characters and the very first one was a cringingly bad topless brute barbarian that was "sooo dumb lol" and wouldn't stop talking about beer and babes. Even if everything else was great I have no interest in listening to that same character archetype AGAIN. I'm just going to assume there is a hoity-toity sorcerer/wizard woman (probably an elf) who scoffs at what people say, and some bland quiet-but-edgy powergamer guy somewhere in there too.

I don't agree, simply because most people forget that most battletech planets are shit. Poisonous water and atmosphere, killer creatures, dying terraforming, insufficient water. The second thing is that many of those worlds are basically independent and just a tax stamp for the ruling nobility so only the actual institutions of power like the capital, spaceport and manufacturing centers are worth taking. The only time you see a full multicity planetary campaign is when the population are a bunch of die hards for their faction, like the campaigns on New Syrtis and Dieron. Battletech planetary conquests usually operate more like a military coup in the real world than an invasion.

The semi-garden worlds should maybe have big militias but not the rest. And they tend to anyway. Like look at Marfik in the 4th War. Shit tier dumping ground for malcontents. Still has a regiment of mechs, four of armor, and six of infantry.

You ain't gonna get an argument from me there. I always say that's one of the soft retcons that needs to happen in the setting, the same way they did jumpship numbers. Doesn't actually change anything in terms of the way things have been written historically, but fixes the numbers up quite a bit.

You got me guys - khorne daemons seem to be a reasonable choice.
What about mixing them with mortals? I'm thinking about swaping one SC box for a khorne half of starter set. It would be cheaper and I will gain a bloodsecrator and three universal khorne battlelines

So I'm looking into running an AdEVA campaign, but know little of the system. Can /tg/ give me some advice on which edition is best? I vaguely recall some conflict over changes from one edition to another, but that's to be expected of any system I suppose, and I'm unsure what the system's current status is. Requesting a tribal sharkman with horns and a mane of hair going from the top of his head to his upper back, albeit with a more human neck and shoulders. He's wearing a loincloth and wraps around his hands and feet, along with some jewelry, such as bracelets on his wrists, ankles, and tail, a necklace with several shark teeth and a couple rings on one of his horns. He may also wield a blade of teeth and wear tattoos like the ones in the reference.

Auxbot just needs to stay within 8". It limits the movement of the main guy a bit but isn't that much of a problem.

Crabbot is a bit like a regular pilot. It can dismount at any time, but while it's out the TAG can't do anything until it comes back.
If the crab gets immobilized, isolated or put into null the TAG can start working again but it has to pass a reset roll. If the TAG dies while Crabbot is deployed, the little guy still survives but does not provide an order.
It's pretty weird how regular pilots immediately drop dead when their TAG is destroyed but the remote robots stick around. One would think it'd be the other way around.
