No. Fuck that noise. Those guys are fucking hardcore. The plasma pistol deep strikers are going to be good as well.
Is there any real reason why displacer beasts need to all be based on felines? I'm working out this idea for a "displacer zoo" and I wanted to use other animals like rabbits, wolves, zebras and elephants. Help would be appreciated maybe some stating (want to use 5E) and pics would be grand too.

>>54737394
It's because they're based on Coeurls, which were feline.
Bonus points:
- It spices up the d20 mechanic in some way
- Good skill system
- Attributes that make sense
- Classless/Leveless
- Casters dont reign supreme (a little imbalancein is ok)
- Rich in options from the start
- Rich in options for martials
- Armor as DR
- HP lose gives penalties
- Not grid based
- No "retroclon"
- It's still supported
>>54737289
Well... dishonorable mention to Numenera. The game that fucked up just enough to be unplayable, but not enough that everyone flat out agrees it's bad.

Where are they OP?
I want to run another RPG but I am sick of 5e.
What is another class-based RPG that features miniatures in a dungeon on a square grid tipping around and doing attacks, that is different from and more interesting than 5e?
Hard mode: That you have personally played and enjoyed.
>>54736896
4e.
>>54736970
4e is crap. Savage Worlds is better.
>>54737255
I agree in general, but 4e is excellent for what it does, and what it does is be not-D&D that's close enough to D&D to make it a nearly seamless transition from D&D.
Plus SW doesn't use a square grid.

In Germany we have that traditional boardgame called (pic_related)"Mensch, ärger dich nicht! " (Man, don't be vexed!) Does that game even exist in your culturally common boardgameroaster? I'm curious
>>54736061
That's called Sorry! in the US.
>>54736061
In dutch it's called mens, erger je niet. That is obviously a name similar to the german one.
>>54736083
I've heard it being called Ludo in english. (brandname or localised variant?)
Additionally, I know of a version played with a deck of playing card instead of d6 called keezen (or something like that)
Do German's not have the pop-o-matic bubble?

Prone to infighting and explosions. One usually leads to the other.

How would you deal with a player who wants to play an ancient holy sword lifecoaching some peasant?
>>54735374
Hexblade warlock. Now stop reposting it.
>>54735374
depends on the system.
>>54735374
I think they should have to roleplay as the peasant and deal with the mind-control and mental strain etc. Sort of a gollum type situation but maybe give them a little bit of agency over the sword so it isn't just pure chaos

Stop playing on Roll 20.Complaining about problems with Roll 20 is like complaining about DnD problems. The answer is the same in both cases.
Roll20 is fine for play, but if you use it as a groupfinder you deserve everything you get.
Hey all.
Long story short, as a first time DM, my players are highly likely to encounter their first city in our campaign tomorrow. They've each been led to the island in which this is all taking place with the promise of a mysterious and vague treasure. They spent much of the last session navigating through a doppelganger's ruse and a creepy village, but this is their first encounter with the proper civilization on the island.
Though we're not a horror campaign per se, I'm planned most of the outer villages and territories be cursed or under some creepy type of enchantment. With that said, I'd really like to have all of the cities in this campaign to have a different vibe: a more civilized, political version of the dark forces marauding over the less-populous regions.
My question is: how to do this? I've got a few ideas: there will be a masquerade hosted by necromancers, a governor's council infiltrated by doppelgangers, and a city guard that seems to be quietly and efficiently making homeless people disappear in the night. But how can I give a general sense of menace and discomfort to my players when walking around the city?
My plan is for the city to currently be under lockdown due to bomb threats a la pic related, but how can I set this up with encounters and adventures for my players? What are different types of plot hooks and NPCs that can help bring them into this vision of a city under siege?
>Also feel free to post random tips on cities you've played in, what made them memorable, and how to build a convincing urban civ in a fantasy world

I'd say paladin, really. There's not that much of a nature theme.
What are some red flags to avoid when looking for a group to play with on roll20?
I'd play with people in person, but everyone I used to play with has either moved away or doesn't play anymore, and the nearest FLGS is over an hour's drive away, so roll20 is seemingly my only real option.
What do you consider "avoid at all costs" when you're looking for a roll20 group?
>you need a mic to play
Every time.
>>54734651
isn't that 99% of groups?
>text only
Every fucking time.
When do you think it is appropriate to, for lack of a better term on my part, use a bait and switch on your players about the subject of the game?
As an example, take the image <
The book is about a bunch of superheroes running around half of which have useless powers in a zombie apocalypse, and a few of which may have caused the apocalypse.
With your average players, if you told them that the game would be about zombies, they would come with a character decked out to deal with zombies, which is understandable, but not necessarily what you may want in a game.
>>54734057
Never. Or at least, very very rarely. In my experience, most players will feel like they've been deliberately lied to, and they may have created characters which are wholly unsuitable (thematically or mechanically) for the game you actually are going to run.
>>54734057
Think like a movie preview. There's usually at least a hint of a twist coming. Just tell your players that things will not be as they seem. No really. Just knowing that there will be a twist, a rug pulled out from under them, is better than a literal bait and switch. Now the emphasis will be on just what is going to happen.
No just tell them you want them to make average joes for your zombies game, for example. Even if you ruse them and they don't punch you in the face, when their shitty unprepared character dies they'll make one suited for the twist now anyway.
lets talk solo, tabletop, RPG games.
It can be tough to get friends together for a session. What solo RPG game do you play to tie yourself over until your group gets together again?
I recently have been playing one called "Barbarian Prince". It does a pretty good job capturing the feeling of high adventure that RPG's give. It is no replacement for group games but it's pretty damn good at tying me over.
>>pic related
Heck yeah! Barbarian Prince is brutal, but fun. We had a playthrough on /tg/ like last year.
Also, it's "tide you over," not tie. (Pic related.)
>>54734050
I usually spend my time building settings and testing characters and creatures.
