I have a question about Daggerfall, why are there so many kingdoms? What's the significance of each one? Why does the Main Quest not even go to any of the Swamp tile Kingdoms as far as I am aware?

Not really the board for this but I'll answer anyways.

1. There are only three kingdoms Daggerfall, Sentinel, and Wayrest. The rest are minor lords. However, the kings have lost most of their control over these lords causing the whole region to fall into chaos (originally the game was going to have the provinces all randomly wage war on each other but this was scrapped). Basically due to the misrule of Jagar Tharn a few years back the entire realm has fallen into anarchy and both the empire and regional kingdoms are failing to regain control, which needless to say is percieved as a great threat by the Emperor.
Beyond this the reason there are so many provinces is just to provide a general sense of scale and depth to a world that doesnt really have much. They give a reason for the world to be large, which wouldnt be found if all those locations were just thrown into say a single tile named daggerfall. It's also very likely that Bethesda originally intended for said provinces to have a deeper purpose but simply scrapped the ideas by the end (Daggerfall was a very ambitious project).

2. The main quest does go to some of the offshoot tiles, Ykalon, Menevia, Wrothgaria, and Dragontail off the top of my head.

I think the only actual swamp climate in the game is in Tigonus.

Also, the independence of the minor realms isn't just because of Tharn's intentional misrule. Just look at the history of Dwynnen, or its allies in the war against the Camoran Usurper.

According to Palaux Illthre, the realms of High Rock were unable to properly unite against the Usurper in 3E 266.
The traditionally important realms (the kingdoms) either had young rulers or were paralysed by issues of succession. At least eight rulers made secret deals with the Usurper to save themselves, and the arguably important role of Lord of Reich Gradkeep was held by a dying man.
It took a combined effort between the rules of Dwynnen, Ykalon, Phrygias and Kambria to actually turn against the Usurper, and finally defeat him.
So chaos and independent rule did occur before Tharn.

Also the rules of peerage and titles differ from realm to realm, making it hard to compare rulers.

Is there any place with a lot of lore and differences about the kingdoms? A lot of them seem the same to me on the surface and only seem different mechanically, and I've noticed about 4 biomes, Mountains, Woodlands, Desert, and Jungle/Swamp

I regularly see people create threads about how people at their table play stupid stuff.
>Man plays a female character
>Someone plays an anthro animal (muh furry)
>Someone plays an edgy character
>Someone has a lolrandom type character

I am seriously wondering, do you play with autists and not know who to deal with them or have you not yet gotten that stick out of your ass ?
First off it's just a game, stop being so uptight about it
Second, there's a place for any character. I have played serious, dark and depressing games with realistic characters and gritty scenarii and I have play lolrandom powerfantasy DnD games with superstrong characters. I have played with men who played women in realistic and non stereotypical/magical realmy ways and I have played with men who create the most stupidly over the top sexy badass ladies.
The whole point is to play according to what the game is about, what the GM wants to build as atmosphere and what the group is confortable with.
Character concepts one their own are never bad, they just need to fit in whatever envrionment and group they are in.

Yes, if a player comes to a 1920 Cthulhu game with the intention of playing a big tittied badass woman with huge guns and a mini skirt, it's stupid and they should be talked out of it. If they don't want to comply to what the group and GM aim for, he should be kicked out of the table.
But don't go about trashing other people's characters if they fit the tone of the table and game.

TL;DR don't be a dick

If a GM is so concerned about the characters either Pregen them or have the players fulfill criteria (eg. 1 healer, 2 warrior types, 1 Wiz etc.). You could also stick to simpler systems with fewer choices, sometimes players are given too wide a birth to make a character.

Welcome back to the 2017 Summer Elite Cup, one and all. The last day of GRIP Weekend is upon the boyz in blue, and we're up against the biggest challenge we've had this weekend- a fight to finish with our good friends from the FLGS, /m/!

Win and we're through to the knockouts, and we're in for one roaring fight!

>What the fuck is this?

A virtual divegrass tournament run in Pro Evolution Soccer and streamed for the enjoyment of anons everywhere.

>Why the fuck should I care?

Dank memes, top bants, bragging rights, and hype by the bucket load. For more info see implyingrigged.info

Friday's battle with /sci/ ended up poorly with some unfortunate PESing with two blooters from way outside the box killing that attempt on getting to the knockouts, but the Colony is Dropping and that might be our platform to victory when we take on /m/. (Kick off 1700 UTC, 1:30 pm EDT)

Right after that, keep an eye on /vp/ and /sci/, and hold onto your dice and praise RNGesus, because it's one last match between to lock our group down and see who will stay Elite! (1730 UTC, 1 pm EDT)
Be sure to stick around to see the end of GRIP WEEKEND and the Knockout rounds draw.

IT'S TIME FO' FOOTSLOGGIN' BOYZ. GET HYP, TONIGHT, TODAY!

Surprisingly civilised conversation about how to covertly (or at least non-disruptively) slip your magical realm into a game was very comfy, we should continue it.

The big bad of the campaign is a witch who has sunk to such depravity of evil that the world itself begins to reject her. She's literally allergic to the ambient goodness in the world, and needs to wear a special all-over covering to keep it out.

Under the terms of the occupation, each clan pays one cow (or items of equivalent value) per two free adults.

Of course, most of the work is done by tax farmers. Organizations which pay the Imperial Government for the right to collect taxes in a certain area.

Naturally, this doesn't sit well with a lot of clans, and is one of the reasons why the clans are rebellious.

Terrifying. The imperial bureocraucy uses around 30.000 seers to estimate what you have and what you owe them. This also works as a census.

They also used necromancy to investigate unpaid taxes by dead people sometimes, although the public outcry may make it not worth it. The moral is, don't owe neither fraud a lot or they will pay attention to you.

I've been playing some 5e lately, and every fight is set up on a grid on the table. There are figures for the characters and for the enemies, and we move around like a sort of half-ass chess game. It feels like the focus is on min/maxing combat and the rest is picking up quests from like WoW npcs. I guess I don't mind some props but it leaves almost nothing to the imagination. Like, literally: here is the room and a grid of what is there and you can spend like 2 minutes decided the best course of action when you're supposedly being rushed down by 5 orcs.

Is this a symptom of our DM and players being kind of new and not really being creative (he's using one of those premade campaigns) or is this normal? I guess I always thought DnD was more played out in the players' minds and the DM gave descriptions and you reacted with your own descriptions. Any tips here or similar experiences

I recently dipped my toe in the water reading about the Khabbala and jewish mystics, and it's actually a gold mine. Any suggestions for an hebrew campaign, anons? I was thinking of using the Sephirot (tree of life, pic related) as the base for magic, and jewish millenarism could provide an endgame (the coming of the Messiah, or the joining of body and soul described by Maimon). For the gameplay part there's plenty of stuff like golems, nephilims or angels.

Please, give an ignorant gentile some inspiration

Well, for starters, there's the Jews that rape and murder the goyim's children as sacrifices for Moloch to attain worldly power.
>>
>>54726370
Yeah but that's a bit shallow, isn't it? I don't want to run a pogrom campaign nor actually force my players to role jews, it's just meant as an inspiration for a regular fantasy campaign.

>We don't want girls in our D&D group

So I heard this from a female player regarding some other group (I do not know the group)that is joining my group today. And I was really stunned. I mean, according to my more-then-a-decade gaming experience women are as fun players as men and they can bring in the game aspects that men do not. Anyway, girls do make groups fun.

Why would someone show them the door (if they are not otherwise problematic and there is space in group)?
283 posts and 29 images submitted.
>>
>>54725879
Because they are otherwise problematic, generally.

A blanket ban is usually the result of a chain of shitty experiences, and generalizing those experiences to the rest of women in terms of their capacity for tabletop things.

Which isn't to say that the other gender isn't capable of incredibly foul things, either. But you can get some pretty goddamn obnoxious harpies.
>>
>>54725879
>We don't want girls in our D&D group
I have heard that more from groups with a single Nerd Queen Bee than any other, and the Queen Bee allows no competition. Either that or they have had run ins with them before.
>>
>>54725879
>according to my more-then-a-decade gaming experience
Possibly they've had a different set of experiences, and have decided that the initial awkwardness of simply omitting women from the start is preferable to any potential headaches caused by introducing them into the mix. Or it could just be because the guy running the games knows his players are thirsty-ass motherfuckers who will act like retards in mixed company.

RPG groups can be pretty niche and fragile, so there's all sorts of reasons why people'd limit who they accept.

Haven't seen this done in a while. Take your chance, roll thrice and see what superpowers you get.

Solarians are fine, they have a bunch of cool tricks and do good damage now that we have the equipment section. Envoys on the other hand...... the only thing I can think of is giving them bard-like spellcasting or making the duration of their buffing abilities last for longer
