The first rays of sunlight meet your eyes well before you had planned to wake up.
It’s the inconvenience of having no blinds and having the sunlight filter directly inside your room, you suppose.

“urg… it’s probably something like 6 am, am I on my shift or what?”, you grunt.
Any attempts to fall back asleep are useless. “I understand that they’re going for the retro appeal, but this is taking a bit too far”

You slowly and sorely rise from the bed. Today will be a busy day: you must interrogate your acquaintances about a lifeless land trying to stay that way a deathless land that seeks a change.

You would usually complain about hermetic hints, but given that it came from an enemy, you reason that you don’t have room for gripes.

Now, what to do? It’s probably early to bother the Priest, and probably early to have breakfast too.
The thought that it might not be included in the room price crosses your mind, but then you remember that it’s not your business since your friend is paying anyway.

“Friend, huh?”
The whole accident with the crossdressing boy was not exactly amusing, and you wonder why an ally would play such a prank on you.

Your mind almost unconsciously reaches for the ring, but you stop it before you can get close enough to touch it.
“Now calm down, calm down. It was just a prank, right? Like those annoying teenagers on YouTube”.
>>
>>46224863
Nevertheless, you probably need to talk with that boy. However awkward and unpleasant that might be, the message has been repeated to you over an over: nothing happens by chance here.

So maybe that girl in the convenience store earlier wasn’t a chance meeting either, and neither was the unbearable knight you met while getting out of the tavern. Those must be interrogated too.

For what concerns the Warrior, he will come on his own. You have an appointment with him for lunch. Together with the Edge Knight, he’s probably the one who is more likely to know about deathless realms and lifeless wastes.

Now if there’s anything left to decide is in what order to meet them. And, if you were inclined so, whom to bring along.

>We’ll talk with the crossdresser first
>We’ll talk with the girl first
>We’ll talk with the Edge Knight first

I'm working on a guide to D&D editions, pic related being the rough draft, describing the pros and the cons of each of the editions, and I'd like /tg/'s input. And yes, before you ask, I am going to end with "Remember, you can always try not playing D&D."

I'll post my the current draft of the write-up itself.

>I'm new to D&D, /tg/; which edition should I play?
>Well, that depends on what you want out of the game. If you're new to roleplaying games in general, chances are you're not sure what you want. If that's the case, talk to your group. If you don't have a group yet, you probably shouldn't be worrying about which edition to use just yet.

>But what if everyone in my group is also new?
>Ask them (and yourself) what they think they might want. To simply have a grand adventure? To climb their way to the top and become powerful heroes? To do battle with ferocious monsters? Some combination of the above?

>Classic TSR Editions
>"Back in my day..."
>These are listed in the same category because they're more similar to one another than to any of their modern successors. Many grognards will tell you that these are the gospel and that even thinking of using anything else is blasphemous, but these are emphatically not for everyone.

>They have some pretty clunky, dated mechanics, but they're heavily customizable. This is because they're essentially collections of house rulings by the DM that happened as the developers ran and played the games, which were then recorded and standardized.

>If you choose to play one of the early editions, feel free to come up with as many house rules as feel necessary for you to play the way you want to play. The early D&D ruleset was very flexible, and as a result, even the "Advanced" rulebooks are easier to master than most of the editions since.

>If you want to start with only one book, get the Rules Cyclopedia -- it has everything you need to get started with the game and then some. If you're feeling up to it, procure one copy each of the Player's Handbook, the Dungeon Master's Guide, and the Monstrous Manual for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition. It is, as its name implies, the most polished of the TSR editions.

Please take AD&D: Player Options off the chart.
It's shit, and it makes the otherwise good AD&D line look shit by association.
>>
>>46223641
The next thing on the draft, which wouldn't fit under the charlimit is this:
>The supplements that start with the words "The Complete" or "Player's/DM's options" have some neat, but often untested and poorly-balanced ideas. Feel free to mess around with them if you feel like, but the bit about only using the rules you need goes double here.

Swap out "entertain" for "engage". Players can walk out fragile and shattered remains of who they once were in a horror game and the DM has done well.
Having fun is good, but it isn't the only way to play.
Horror and intruige games are engaging for other reasons than entertaining, if you see what I mean.

You are a god, but not one that matters. In truth you're just a demigod, an irrelevant demigod at that.

You're a Cave Hydra, bight and mighty. And recently you did something good, very good. And now you're out for another quest. Or so you hope.

After dealing with the fat human called Kardio Belaskez, your group of adventurers returned to the city for their reward. After that, you've joined them onto their next journey to a place. What place? You have no clue, after two days of moving basically nonstop, you grow tired of doing nothing. That includes hunting.

You were given a wagon which you drag around, most of the things on it is food, for you of course. At first you were happy, but now you don't even have a reason to hunt other than for fun, which kills half the reason for hunting. Right now it's night, and everyone is gathered around the fire.

How viable are wolves as mounts?

We've often enough seen orcs use wolves or wolf-like monsters as mounts since, for some fucking reason, horses can't deal with orc-butt on their backs.

We're just going to assume there are wolves that reach pony- or donkey-size, but maintain about all characteristics of our regular sized wolves.

So when dogs run, they arch their back and then pull it back in. If you're sitting on one, imagine getting hit in the balls with every step and then falling off. Horses work because they stay so straight
>>
>>46221904

Same logic with big cats.

I think giant boars or cervine creatures are a standard but much less fantastical alternative.
>>
>>46221793
Fuck, I forgot to add in the actual issue. Fuck me.

So , what I was going to say is: We've often enough seen orcs use wolves as mounts, but what would wolves as mounts actually bring to the table that horses don't, assuming your setting doesn't have the "Horses hates orcs"-condition and/or there are no orcs but human tribes that ride on wolves?

In short: in a situation where wolves (or really shaggy-furred dogs) were of the required size to be a mount, what would a culture make choose them over horses?

>>46221904
Welp, that is a pretty fucking good argument, however that problem could be mitigated by stirrups, if my superficial riding knowledge doesn't fail me.

A Sister Famulous sent to help instruct a Knight Family, only for the heir to the family to be found dead not long after her arrival. This puts accusations flying every way and she needs to find the actual murderer before the Ecclessiarchy and the Mechanicas come to blows over what was already a delicate situation before the murder happened.

>souls exist in the game
>this upsets some people

I really enjoy the idea of souls as a tangible concept in a fantasy setting, and I was wondering if there were any of people who didn't like souls in their games to explain why.

I sort of get the feeling that it's a matter similar to deities and alignment, where people don't like those existing in a game because they go against their personal beliefs, even if the form they take in the game is rather different than the concepts are in reality.

OP I don't know who you met or what happened to lead to this story but you sound like you play with some serious faggots if they even have to stop and say "wait no I don't appreciate the idea of souls", Jesus.
>>
My personal distaste for religion in games is that "Kill God" is way overused.
Souls, I could get behind, but I can't help but feel it's just another twenty feet of track tacked onto the "Kill God" rail.
>>
>>46220312
So much this. If anyone has to take a dump on the your game to force their theological belief, then you just tell them two things:

1) Shut up and enjoy the game
and if that fails
2) Fuck off, we're playing a game here

Yes. The whole 40k Galaxy being a shithole is a meme that needs to die. The majority of imperial citizens have a syandard of living roughly similar to working class in a first world nation of modern earth. Most of them will never see anything represented in model form their entire lives. Hell, many of them have no idea what the true scale of the imperium is, and they really don't care.

Sure.

There are places called Paradise Worlds and they are fucking beautiful. The people on them though wouldn't know much about the galaxy, since they are too busy having it easy.
