Alright, hopefully making this thread earlier in the evening will get more traffic.

Making an animal-based cardgame. Not a TCG, a game that comes prepackaged in a box as a set. The cards will be in a pool available to both players like monopoly money. Maybe about 20 of each card, perhaps 1,000 in total?

Here's a quick rundown of what the stats might function like.

>Durability
Simply health. Damage taken = (Strength of attacker - Endurance of receiver). Animal is sent to the discard pile if it dies. If an animal successfully defeats another, that defeated animals total Durability could be added to the attacker's health or something maybe?

>Strength
Attacking power. Must be a higher number than opponent's Endurance or that animal cannot damage that animal.

>Endurance
How much gets subtracted from your opponent's attack damage.

>Speed
Highest number goes first (tiebreakers then compare Agility, a tie in Agility, compare Intelligence).

>Agility
I haven't thought of exactly what Agility might function like. I was thinking how easily an animal is hit, like the further apart an attacker's Speed is from opponent's Agility, would determine the likelihood of a successful hit. This stat could be dumped entirely, I was just playing around with ideas.

>Intelligence
I think Intelligence could function towards support cards or weather / environment cards. Like if there was a "Drought" action card, "Kill all animals with an Intelligence less that 10" or something, smart animals could survive and adapt, I dunno.

You need a certain number of these cards to put animals into play e.g. in order to play a Killer Whale, you need to have a minimum of 5 OCEAN in play.
I think there should be a cap on how many Environment cards a player can have out at one time. For example, a player could have only 1 or 2 kinds of environments and only summon the mega fauna of those environments, while another player might have 3-5 environments, and swarm the field with smaller creatures from diverse ecosystems.

It showed a map of the city just south of your base, long since abandoned by civilians. You follow the Lieutenant's finger as he marks out one of the highways and marks two parking lots for big malls, before tapping a third - a former hardware megastore. The terrain was variable; you'd be dodging in and out of parks, choked in through business centers and plowing through former residential suburbs.

"We're linking up with two 'toons of hardsuits. We got a run sweeping through these checkpoints here, here and here, before pushing through to secure or destroy the FOB they set up here. Other elements will be approaching from different directions, so watch your fire."

"Enemy composition?"

"There's speculation of at least one AAFV element, about the same as ours, as well as conventional tanks. They've got infantry, powered armor... the works."

Chiming in with the Deathtakers Tzeentch Warband! Copying lore over from the colors thread:

Here's the heretical color scheme. Their road to heresy began when they started to doubt the Emperor's chance of living, and were particularly alarmed by a Lord of Change's claim that he would become a new chaos god upon death, uncaring if not outright cruel to his old subjects.

As such, they began searching for any method necessary to try and return the emperor to life, secretly dabbling in technology to revitalize cells and outright heal corpses. However, when the battle brothers they experimented on returned as outright comatose slabs of meat, their souls already taken by the warp, they soon gave up hope, until the Lord of Change, thought dead, whispered into the mind of the Chapter Master.

Dabbling in Tzeentchian magics, the convene of Librarians, the Chief Librarian possessed by the same Lord of Change, used a particular spell on the preserved corpses that managed to bring them back, complete with the ability to move and think - only many of them were utterly soulless and warped, their souls having already been devoured by the thirsting gods, and those that did not had been warped into evil by the dark magics. With both the husks and the crazed acting cruel and violent whenever set loose in battle, it was not long until the Emerald Falcons were marked for investigation by an Inquisitor, and as such, the Chapter fled into the eye of terror.

I had this idea of making a really complex and integrated story about Imperial factions after a major crusade. Considering the size of the galaxy a crusade must require thousands of regiments and hundreds of Chapters to conduct. Which also leaves them with spoils of war in the end. I could have just populate the whole thing from my drafts but I figured it would be more fun and challenging to fill the factions with anon made ones. So here we are.

-I store all contributions and work them into the story one way or another, so don't hesitate to contribute.
-No Orks no ork related anything, I'm writing Orks right now and I'm fed with it. No zoggin Orkz, ya 'ear!
-Try to make the factions as unique as possible(it's YOUR faction after all). Theme, military focus and characterization is what makes a faction alive most of the time.
Here is an example from an official chapter. Black Templars are gothic space knights(theme), they use close combat whenever possible(military), special characters in the codex(charz)
-If you submitted in a previous thread know that its been kept safe.
-Post the HTML codes of your colors if you want an accurate representation, otherwise I pick the colors using gimp which might not be exact.
-Creator names for the factions cannot be changed after the first initialization, if you want to be added as a creator to an already made faction you need to contribute newer fluff almost as much as the OC. Even if the OC is credited as anon you can only be credited beside him. This is done to prevent miscrediting.

It was quickly discovered that the same wretched magics unleashed by the possessed Chief Librarian had utterly and totally fucked the Geneseed of the chapter, and as such, in order to expand their ranks and escape extinction, they were forced to make further use of the vile sorcery on Marines they slew in battle. Over time their vision was corrupted, though the new Overlord of the warband orders that all of the resurrected's armor have their right arm painted with the warband's old colors, and rumor has it he still seeks to use the magic to resurrect the emperor, blind to impossibility of the accursed task.

Being Polish, I really wish I knew more about Slavic gods to try and use some in my games, but the little I know isn't particularly compelling and I'm far more familar with Greek and Japanese mythology.

I do love Slavic creatures though.They are ready-made to slip in to just about any setting.

I've just been invited to play d&d with some friends of a friend. I've not played in like a year, so I'm in, no questions asked. They'll be playing 5e competitively, and all my experience is with 3.5. So I have until 10pm Pacific time to get acquainted with the system and build a level 16 character with 2000 gold plus starting equipment. I was told, half-jokingly, to "minmax as much as possible"

I'll be reading up on my own in the meantime, but I'm looking for advice from /tg/ on how to be somewhat effective and not make a fool of myself in 5e specifically.

Is it possible for a group to be friends on very good terms with each other, yet incompatible as a gaming group?

I think I am a reasonably experienced GM. Due to a schedule involving multiple six-hour sessions per week, I have logged about ~180 sessions (according to my logs) since December 2014.

During those sessions, one player ("Player X") has been in all but about half a dozen of them. Furthermore, there is another friend I have been GMing for regularly ("Player Y").

Players X and Y were the only two players in two of my recent campaigns. One ran for 24 sessions before we agreed that nobody was enjoying themselves, and another ran for 17 sessions before my players told me that they were not having fun and that I should end the game.

Those two campaigns were fraught with, as my players said, poorly handled GMing. After every session, I would ask how I handled that session, and there was:
- A ~67% chance that one or both would complain about my GMing in a way that implied they disliked the session. I would engage in a several-hour-long (not an exaggeration) argument to clarify what they wanted, and then capitulate to their requests.
- A ~33% chance that everything went relatively fine.

No matter how much I tried to improve, there was always a ~67% chance that I would greatly fumble. I would always try to cater to their requests, but doing so was often met with "You catered to our request, but not in the way we had in mind." A few sessions down the line, I would then receive a request that was mutually exclusive with a previous one.

This makes me consider that my two players do not know what they want and are inept at expressing their preferences. It also makes me think that I am incapable of discerning what my players truly want, seeing how I have attempted to cater to them across many sessions, yet fail to please.

My players now refuse to explain what I am doing wrong with my GMing, because apparently, I am too dense. What can I do to rectify all of this?

It can't. Be can be similar and different on varying levels and attempting to change them into something they aren't will merely make them hate you and what you're aiming them towards.
Sadly you and your players are somewhat inept in social skills and can't express yourselves or understand others fully and this cannot be remedied its merely who you are.

Best bet is go on the arduous journey of finding one of those special GM's everybody loves and latch onto him like a leech together as a 3 man player group. Be ready however, as i mentioned earlier, you all aren't social butterflies which also means finding a GM that will put up with your shit.

This thread is to expand on the loyalist successors of the Alpha legion, convinced they're Imperial Fists, with tactics involving stealth-defense and trap setting

>Founded in the 34th millennium, our chapter were created to crusade against the Imperiums enemies(allegedly), however it is unknown to the Imperium and indeed the chapter itself as to who our progenitor is, though they vehemently believe they are succesors of the Imperial fists. In truth, they were created with the Gene seed of the Alpha Legion who paraded themselves as elements of the Imperial fists third company whilst forming the chapter, a belief the chapter holds dear aand true from the hypno therapy and harsh indoctrination they use in recruitment. For unknown reasons, the Alpha legion made them in the guise of the fists.

>They believe in purity above all, and yet their own gene seed is flawed hyper-stimulating the Omophagea of many brothers and leading to the creation of their strnge and esoteric and mysterious Chapter culture. In legend, the former Captain of the fists third company slew a Daemon prince and led the chapter through many harrowing battles, in truth he was one of the Alpha Legion masquerading as an Imperail fist, as all the founding members were.

The opposing IS continues to fly straight at you as you continue to evade the closing in laser beams. You take out Gram and return fire only to see 4 laser beams intercept and deflect all of the projectiles. She continues undisturbed by your attack to fly straight at you. Close enough to see her without relying on your sensors, your next shot connects as the active protection lasers didn't have enough time to deflect your projectiles. But that came at a price, as your shields spark against her rifle's laser beam. You turn your body slightly to let the rest of the beam pass by you.

“Reinforce, that was close.” you mentally comment.

“The enemy IS is using as advanced ECM suite making targeting and information gathering difficult.” Reinforce telepathically replies.

You are John Smith, only know male IS pilot, currently fighting against an unknown IS. You were about to fly your Maeve around the Fairy Arms and Manufacturing testing airspace before you were fired upon. Forced to defend yourself, you return fire with limited success. This fight is going to be a lot different that what you are use to.

The opposing IS mirrors your action as you blast past each other. In the instant she is directly in front of you, you look your enemy in the eyes. A woman about Iris or Natasha's age with sandy brown hair with a rather fit body. Her IS reminds you of something like the Morgan you once could have chosen at the start of your school year but with quite a few differences. You'll have to figure out those differences later as you break left to get around to re-target her in a high-g turn.

Part way through your turn, you have Reinforce control the Edge missile launcher to fire an off-bore shot. The missile is intercepted with all 4 active protection lasers in the middle of the figure 8 pattern the two of you trace in the sky.
