What are some traditions/societal rules that would seem contrived and useless, but actually do something beneficial? I have a society that has a bunch of inane rules, and the twist is they're good.
Setting is medieval(ish) and (kind of) low fantasy.

Assnine sumptuary laws actually help regulate the economy, proving a boon to textile manufacturers because it increases costs on certain designs and dye colours

Well... I could have went all night without seeing that.
Everyone says their characters carry at least 50 feet of rope.
What are you using to attach that rope to things?
>>46153194
I always carry pitons, a tarp, and occasionally a rescue 8.
Just grab the rope and punch it into the wall really hard.
Gets it stuck in there pretty consistently.
Not that it's a big hazard if the rope falls out. You're playing a monk, right?
>>46153194
I do carry pitons. I'm not stupid.
And if I think I'm going to do a lot of climbing I'll carry crampons too.
Depending on the setting I'll have microwire, grapnel, auto rappel, and the always handy gecko gloves and jikka tabi.
Alright /tg/ I got a question. If Lucius is as eternal as he is and takes over the body of who ever controls him what would happen if he dies an accidental death say a drop pod lands on him what then?
>>46152912
>"Hey guys, we crushed Lucius the Eternal!"
>"Thank the Emperor, I'm glad he's dead-"
>SUDDENLY LUCIUS
>>46152912
The person piloting the drop pod is possessed.
Now lets say he's walking somewhere and a random boulder falls on him without anyone doing anything to it. He dies for good. So long as there is no one close enough for him to possess.
>>46152912
Whoever launched the pods maybe? Lucius spawns on the battle barge bridge.
I think it's getting to the point to where we can't say Mantic is terrible anymore.
>>46152464
Terrible? No. Inconsistent though.
>>46152464
Mantic's good stuff costs more, so you can't really keep saying "hurr Mantic better than GW" either.
>>46152482
i think the inconsistency stems from the old stuff being worse looking than their newer stuff, but they still continue to sell the old crappy stuff. no different than gw. old kits are cheaper than new kits, which is why everyones so damn confused when it comes to gw pricing
>>46152492
Fair enough.
All I know is I am seriously tempted to make a squat army counts-as space marines now. I would replace their guns with 40k guns though.
Hey Anon, me and my friends play Dungeons & Dragons and I wanted Anon to write a weird story for D&D for us to fuck around with so try writing a story for us and I will bring it to our next D&D session.
A mad wizard has stolen the color blue. Not just the color, but the concept of it. Water is now grey and tasteless, the sky is dull and dreary. A general malaise falls over the world and order begins to slowly unravel as the knowledge that something is missing but no one can remember what drives people mad.

if they dont have characters yet, make them roll strange races. make them be animals pretending to be human or something. or if you want them to be surprised by the campaign, have wizards fuck with their perceptions. left is down, right is up, shit like that. weak attacks hit harder, damaging magic heals. if you want to be a real dick, fuck with the perception of the movements too

I always thought it was odd that projects like these actually manage to get abandoned in the first place.
As long as there's a version of the rules out, any tosser can start a branch if it seems like the original designer got bored or kicked the bucket.
It's not like you don't have the source code to compile from or whatever.
Zelda RPG, Mario RPG, and CATastrophy all come to mind. I would have said DBZ a few weeks ago but I've been seeing it recently crop back up.

Not OP, but FFG Star Wars works sort of like that, but also like >>46150143, at least in Force and Destiny.
About four years ago, my mother's car got attacked by some kind of superpowered freak. It put my mother in a coma for a good while, and she's been hospitalized ever since.
Now you'd THINK that the cops would be interested in pursuing someone who would and CAN punch cars into oblivion, but pretty everyone I told about what happened laughed in my face.
The only person who actually DID believe me is a girl I met in the park the night after the accident... and thanks to her, now I have my own powers.

Hi all, looking to DM my first game, to get a feel for it, and am looking for any adventure suggestions. Preferably low level (level 1 would be best) and basically an adventure that doesn't involve too many ingredients in one soup.
Any suggestions?
>>46148328
I'm guessing you're playing 5th edition? In that case I'd recommend Lost Mine of Phandelver, which is from the starter set. It has a few "ingredients", but they are easy to skip/mod.

>Adventures/Starter Set
Skip the first two PC levels. You and your party will thank me later.
Nobody enjoys playing level 1 and 2 characters. Nobody enjoys DMing for level 1 and 2 characters. All level 1 and 2 characters of the same level are almost identical and have such little health that they can die in incredibly anticlimactic ways.
Nobody likes killing kobolds and goblins for the millionth time. Just skip it.
We will be playing 2nd edition, don't know if that changes much

Hahaha. Look at this idiot.
>>46148209
Lol, dumbass. Lich=Phylactery, Death Knight=unkillable until they are friggin redeemed.
Medieval knights and shit are all well and good, but where's the Antiquity fantasy? Where's the pseudo-legionnaires and Successor kingdoms. Fuck your full gothic plate, I want my Linothorax. Screw your claymore, I want a Rhomphaia!
Not that I hate medieval stylings, I'd just love to see more of the Roman/Han era get more play in TTRPGs. Anyone have any stories or settings set in Antiquity they'd like to share?
Here's my story about a short campaign I GM'd in Pathfinder. Small party; a half-elf bard, a human rogue, and a human fighter. They were grouped around the bard who was on something of a religious pilgrimage heading from not-Persia to the west. They stopped in a not-Canaan town caught up in some trouble with banditry and merchant rivalry. Camels had been disappearing, and each of the merchant families blamed the other, and had started retaliating. The group was well received in town, and celebrated when the bandits were dealt with with a great party.
The next day though, it turned out the camels were still disappearing which led to more accusations being thrown around and so on. The party decided to watch the camels from concealment, and turns out it was a griffin. Cue camel stampede they had to stop. Turns out the griffin was pissed off because someone in town was stealing griffin eggs to sell. They tracked down the seller and drag him out to return the eggs to the griffin and apologize. All is happy in not-Canaan, so they head on to not-Greece, just in time for some local political shenanigans involving a gargon. Best part was an assassination attempt in the middle of a political rally when the characters' comprehend languages spell wore off.

So, how do I create a religion? I need two of them-One's genereic Paladin sunlight-lawful-good stuff, and the other focuses on freedom. I've never done this before so I don't know where to start
>>46147643
Three doctrines, three parables/stories that justify those doctrines, a holy day, and typical iconography/colors
>>46147643
>I don't know where to start
Start with what you're trying to accomplish. In terms of lore, how do you intend to use these religious traditions?
>>46147643
Simplistically, stories of one central religious character that embody the main thrust of the religion (Jesus, Buddha, Muhammad, Vishnu etc) give you something the laymen emulate and an uninformed person's guide to the religion. Maybe a local hero or saint as a secondary story.
The actual Church will have a much more nuanced understanding of its own doctrine with studious analysis of texts and so forth, but that's not stuff your average peasant or noble is going to know much about, and can be built off the central character.
Obviously this isn't going to cover all religious possibilities but it's fairly simple.
Can your character give out good hugs?
I'd say my kitsune is a contender, though the appeal is different.
>>46147522
He killed someone with a hug once.
>Gangrel with limited access to Fleshcraft
weapon-grade hugs
If your GM is boring you, the best way to communicate this is by starting to stack your dice.
If your dice tower reaches over 15 dice in height, you must announce your feat, at which point the group will applaud you and you will become the new GM.
If one person decides to wear a costume, everyone else must also wear a costume. That means crafting one out of nearby materials if necessary.
