What's the /tg/ view on Rational/Rationalist Fiction genre as a whole? Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality, for all its flaws, at least did one thing right in that the rules and laws of the universe are internally consistent, as any fantasy world should be, and that the protagonist has no qualms in exploiting those rules for his own gains. Essentially, the Rational Fiction genre is the side of Rules-Lawyering and Power-gaming that we begrudgingly respect, for all the fact that he was a jerk to the group about it, you can't help but give props to That Guy for destroying Psionics.

I don't understand /btg/'s hate against the Republic of the Sphere. They are almost a carbon copy of the Word of Blake, except the "muh evil faction" thing (and even then they are very gray with their "let the Republic ideals survive at any cost")
So, last night I posted a thread about people's favorite systems, and this game came up. I'd never heard of it, as it's never been in English. So, I've started the translation process. Check it out.
Notes:
This is ver 0.1. I just fed the text Google and pasted into a doc. A lot of the language is obtuse, and in some places kind of funny. The next step is working through the document and cleaning up the language
This game is written with the assumption you have never touched a roleplaying game before.
This is the simplified, or "fastplay," of the game. Even the main game would be considered rules light, and this is rules-lighter.
Aside from the cover I made, there is no art, and the document isn't pretty, that's couple steps from now.

If people are interested in the story of how this game came to be:

Also, if anyone has access to scans of the main rulebook or any of these Capcom based supplements they would be willing to share, I would really appreciate.

This is great! I was wondering if there was anyone out there still working on an English translation of this.
By the way, is this translated from just "3D&T", or "3D&T Alpha"?

3D&T Fastplay, which is the simplified version of 3D&T.

News Report:
Peace talks over the Great Interior Desert have broken down. The nations of Qadrus, Droerus and the Principality of Beskaosia have recalled their ambassadors after Anuncia, Droiqubar and N.O.R.D refused to move their land claims further back from the borders the former. With the I.F. deadline approaching the Security Council has demanded that all non-taskforce military units withdraw from the region in preparation for occupation. In a shocking turn of events Anuncia, Droiqubar and N.O.R.D have formed an alliance and delivered the following ultimatum to the I.F.
>Video Feed
Anuncian Ambassador: “We of the Alliance reject the authority of the International Forum Security Council and formally withdraw ourselves from the Assembly of Nations. The Great Interior Desert is now the sovereign territory of Anuncia, Droiqubar and N.O.R.D. Any attempt to seize the territory by the I.F. is unlawful and will be repelled.”
As of 6 am this morning the combined Peacekeeper task force crossed the borders of Landum and Molvania.
>Video Feed
I.F Spokesman: The desert alliance are nothing more than a bunch of rogue nations who would leverage their military might to expand their territory. This antagonistic behaviour is the kind that led to the Great War. It is the mandate of the Security Council to maintain order and supress any nation that would carve out an empire at the expense of it’s neighbours. The task force will secure the desert and these antagonistic governments will be brought to heel.

((Welcome to the Mecha Mercs Skirmish Campaign.
This is a tactical turn based collective game where each player takes on the role of a mech pilot. As the campaign progresses the players will accumulate a supply of resources which can be used to build up a persistent pool of mechs and equipment, but watch out! If your pilot dies you could lose it all and be forced to start again with an inferior mech.
Right now we are currently in a Hanger thread where the players can talk shop, ask the QM questions and take time to upgrade their mechs before the game progresses.
We are currently not accepting any new players.

A few little patches:
Increased the sensor range on the Squire because there's really no reason for it not to have it at 10.
The penetration the squire's electro pike has been decreased to 16, so as to make it more distinct from the Batman's electro bat.
Decoy drones now have mobility 5 so that they can actually emulate Knight Lite mechs properly.
The last mission made me think a lot about Decoy Drones and how they interacted with other aspects of the game, so I'm putting forth the following clarifications:
Decoy Drones do not trigger mines.
Hacking a Decoy's hightech systems will cause it not to act that turn. All other hack actions will do nothing but the hacking effect will still appear over the drone.
Decoys can perform fake attacks. These attacks are completely convincing but they always miss.
Enemy decoy drones do not necessarily appear as the same unit as their controller.
>Was the world champion
>no one copied his deck card for card
this truly is an unrealistic anime
Getting cards in the yu-gi-oh world is incredibly hard. While you can easily get pathetic monsters with 300-900 attack points, anything higher than that is rather rare, with cards above 2000 being all but impossible to find for sale since only a handful were ever printed.
We're talking about a world where only 4 blue eyes white dragons were ever printed.

>there is no comprehensive card list online so people stop exclaiming they've never heard of a card every other game

Any advice on how to create continents/worlds? Whenever I try to draw a world map onInkarnateit never feels "right". It feels like I'm just dropping down entirely random shapes instead of creating a world that's both aesthetically pleasing and plausible (by which I don't mean per se that such a thing could happen in reality, just that it looks plausible enough not to be called out on its bullshit at first glance).
>>46316523
Try going for something aesthetically pleasing. Continents made of majestic sweeping lines with nice concave bays, and strings of archipelagos around jutting areas.
I haven't checked but there's probably a ton of generators on the net too. Gen up some for inspiration.
Do you have the game Civilization? Or any 4x game that makes a map of a planet? That's something you can use too.
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/1769395/
This is what I use to knock up a country/continent map on the quick. Probably better methods (and if anyone wants to post them I'm all for it), but it gets the job done.
As for making the shapes plausible/pleasing? From what I've tried and heard from others, it's more or less a combination of trial-and-error teaking and sheer dumb-luck. Sometimes something will look hopelessly shit but then you'll gently fiddle with one pointy bit and suddenly it's fucking LUSH.
Since we're talking worldbuilding: Has anyone ever done a setting where a nonhuman race is the dominant/main species and humans are comparatively rare/exotic? If so, how'd it go for you?
>>46316688
Oh, that's neat. I downloaded GIMP ages ago but never used it so I might as well do this and see how far I get.
Twilight Struggle is terrible. If the USSR successfully coups Iran in the first turn, the US is practically locked out of the Middle East and western Asia for the rest of the game unless they want to pay a prohibitively high price for parity which will then set them back in Africa and the Americas.
The entire game is practically decided on one dice roll in the first turn of play.

Please feel free to throw out any ideas, no matter how great or how stupid, and I'll arrange them on my chart here according to post number. I'm going to do this a few times until I decide how I'll ultimately going to create my megadungeon.
>Rooms have different segments on different floors for 3D puzzle fun
>Traps may drop to lower floors with stronger monsters
>Multiple entrances and exits to each floor to allow players to avoid out of depth monsters

Any more details available on the premise? I've wanted to do this forever as well.

If i want to simulate plate armor`s deflection bonus against cuts (like swordstrikes) , is it better to go with additional cut resistance or with armor-class deflection bonus?
I wanted to ask which would be the more realistic approach and gives more variation, assuming the system is abstract of course, but strictly realism-oriented in the end.
>>46314473
>If i want to simulate plate armor`s deflection bonus against cuts (like swordstrikes) ,
In my opinion a proper depiction would be that if the plate armor and the sword are made of materials that are roughly the same strength, then there is no cutting, period. Instead you can offer the player to aim for an unprotected area and give him an appropriate penalty on his to-hit roll (depending on the quality of the design of the armor).
If the blade is of a superior hardness then you subtract the armor rating of the plate from the damage that the cut would normally do.
>>46315124
with a strike hard enough and a weapon with enough mass behind it , it would at least dent the plates i guess. Poleaxes and bardiches existed for a reason
otherwise , i really like your idea. maybe i should split the damage into cut and impact? it would allow to beat someone unconcious through his metal helmet even if it dulls the edge.
>>46315571
>Poleaxes and bardiches
Hacking and cutting are two different kinds of attack. Late medieval swords weren't balanced to hack anything much. Axes and bardiches were top-heavy and thus give themselves naturally to a hacking motion.
Of course, for swords no one should forget that halfswording and mordhau exist.
I have 10-20 hours of prep I need to do before the next session can be played in a few days, but my free time is spent on 4chan looking at memes, porn, and traps. Help.
Know that feel OP, I think that the last session that I was genuinely and thoroughly prepared to was like a year ago or something like that.
Quick, steal everything you can from other people during the last 3 possible hours. If you don't have all the necessary stuff for the campaign beforehand, try to write some notes as the game goes on as you improvise stuff.
>>46313000
Schedule prep time blocks for the next few days. Stick to that schedule, and you'll be prepped with minimum stress.
How do you make a fantasy setting not generic?
One of the arguments by people that are happy with the end of WHFB is that the setting was generic. How do you make a fantasy setting that's not generic but that is not so out there that it deters customers?
>>46312304
Try Morrowind. It was the right balance of familiar and outlandish. In fact, things that lean towards the "Discworld" type of fantasy setting tend to run the just right amount of outlandish and "standard" fantasy components as to allow freedom for unique stuff without being something difficult to grasp like say, Flatworld.
fill it with memorable regions, kingdoms, characters and events
>One of the arguments by people that are happy with the end of WHFB is that the setting was generic.
those people are just using generic to mean "thing I do not like"
>>46312304
WHFB wasn't generic at all, taking place in the Early Modern period including the Age of Exploration and an Americas analogue in its setting.
