===============

You are Prince Meirion auk Gwyrren, the only sane man in a royal family with dubious concepts of strategy, justice, taxation, and governance in general. You have made it your goal in life to keep your family on the throne and your head firmly attached to your body.

Your royal father has received word that pirates were raiding along the North River, and your older sister Nesta has been asked to deal with the problems. She'll leave in a few hours and with her away from the capital, you'll be able to focus on any problems the rest of your family might cause.

You decided to pay a visit to your sister before she left. She's currently Aurwain's military docks, overseeing the preparation of her frigates. She beams proudly as you arrive and beckons you closer.

"Meirion, I'm happy to see you," she says. She turns to gaze lovingly at her frigates. "Beautiful, aren't they? It's been a while since my last naval campaign."

"I'm sure you'll do fine," you say. Nesta tends to be a poor host, but she can be trusted when it comes to the military. Mostly.

"I'll find those pirates and ram them into the shore!"

And that's why she can only be mostly trusted.

"It's a noble's duty to lead from the front! If they're not first on the battlefield, how can the soldiers follower properly?"

She has launched into her tirade and there's no stopping her now.

"Only cowards stay behind! Those armchair generals are completely useless!"

No, no. This is not how military campaigns work. At all. You can feel your headache growing already. You need to interrupt her before this gets any worse.

>QM Question
Why did you start QMing?

I browsed some shifty fanfic quest and hated so much that I thought I could do better. I then realized that I was worse at QM'ing and couldn't keep up with the update schedule I wanted to have because life is a bitch.

Hey, for anyone who's read Exorcism Quest, would you guys be potentially interested in a thread where I discuss the setting in a bit more detail? I've given some hints, but I figure I could at least explain the non-spoilery bits of the setting.

>Player question
A friend of mine was into MGNQ and wanted someone to talk about it with. I love reading and had been kind of short on material, so he linked me the ebooks and I binged it in a couple days, then from there got hooked on RE: Spider and Ryukuza, both of which got binged in a couple days, and finally started following a lot of different quests that had been currently running at the time. This was all about a year ago, but I figured if I was following a variety of quests then I'd always have something to occupy my time reading.

I was wrong, which led me to...

>QM question
Whenever I get frustrated with other people doing things, I decide I'll just do it myself. While I loved the quests I was reading, the update schedule left me wanting more, and since I also enjoyed writing, I figured I'd give it a shot. Worst case scenario, I'd still have something to occupy my time between following the quests I liked.

One year later, here I am.

That tell-tale hot, dry, nostalgic autumn air has started to blow into the open air levels of your peoples domain and they oddly feel as though the twilight of their time has begun to creep up on them in this their 3rd year Fall.

Previously: The Technician furthered their magical education, The Troll skeleton was scavenged for parts, Lilith has expanded and grown herself to the surrounding levels both above and below, The Dolls had a mild epiphany and a fight was picked with the local lich.

Isaiah has given your community something called a "radio". It is a strange wooden box with a dial on the front that turns numbers on a face- the back is full of little metal wires that faintly touch several different crystals. Isaiah brought it with him from the Rotwood, but it needs the 'open air' to work which his level lacks. Your people frankly love it. For about 2 hours in the morning and the evening they turn on the device to hear it speak of fictional plays, 'sports', weather & farm reports, News, Magical public panel discussions, music and news broadcasts.

+Plot Development+ Floor 4
The Undead have begun to relent (with the exceptions being the odd pair of ghouls leaping out from the darkness to pick a fight) and this has allowed your soldiers and scouts to explore up to "Floor 4".
Floor 4 is..Floor 4 is to be ignored. No one wishes to leave the staircase when entering into Floor 4.
Floor 4 is not a place to idle. Your soldiers have had the laborers seal off floor 4's entrance and the few who've witnessed the level have made a pact to not divulge it's horrors to the others.
No one is allowed to visit Floor 4.

You guys may go ahead and start rolling:

>>Spetnaz Style (small teams, stealth strike bonuses)

Working in relative stealth, you divided your warriors up. It was a tricky thing, keeping them all quiet, but you managed to accomplish it. There were two groups of three, and one person in each group had some kind of improvised polearm. You had been sure to instruct them to keep to small groups of zombies, and to stick close enough together to help each other if you got in a jam. You personally would be going Joan and an Engineer to survey the bridge, and make sure it wasn’t trashed.

>Group 1: 30+5
>Zombies 1: 26
>Group 2: 28+5
>Zombies 2: 30
>Party: 34
>Bridge Zombies: 13
>Results: 2 Warrior light casualty, Zombie groups 1, 2, and Bridge annihilated. 4XP full crew, +15 Warrior ratings.

While you managed to blaze your way to the bridge, the stealth teams got to work. Not all the zombies were in the horde by the starboard bow rail, and by dividing and conquering you had managed to get most of the zombies on deck. The surveying of the bridge went fairly well, although the Engineer was not doing so well from being around zombies. Joan was different- she didn’t seem to fight the zombies so much as bend them to her will. Killing a zombie by snapping its neck was one thing. Killing a zombie by locking eyes with it until it keeled over from a heart attack was something else. For the first time, you started to wonder what, exactly, you had rescued.

Gathering the warriors back together, you got ready to face the horde. One last chance to rally the men, one last obstacle to overcome. Time to be inspirational again. Oh
dear.

>Roll 2d2o for Command check, bonus for adding a Rousing Speech.

(Spetsnaz Stealth Bonus will be in effect for the coming melee, however Spetsnaz casualty rules will also apply. If you picked IG earlier with the dice rolls, there would be no casualties in the last combat, so I hope you have a feel for how the Stealth/Small Group options affect casualty rates.)

You stand face to face with your deceased teacher, Sarutobi Sensei. As the battle between his other clones and the rest of the army rages on, the clone confronting you takes the time to speak.

"I see you can use Nature chakra now. That's one area I've already been surpassed in, I suppose." the Third laughs. "I was touted as 'Professor' and 'God of Shinobi', yet that was always one thing I just had no aptitude for. Then again, you aren't the first of my students to do so. Jiraiya seems to have been through a lot, but he's still doing everything he can. He also said Tsunade returned and treated Itachi. It's a good feeling to know my students are doing well."

Suddenly, the former Hokage flashes through some hand signs.

"Earth Release: Earth Flow River!"

The ground below you starts to envelop you, as you sink. You break free and jump out, only to be struck by another attack.

"Earth Release: Earth Dragon Bullet!"

Near your teacher, a dragon's head forms of mud and unleashes a volley of attacks from its mouth. In an effortless transition, as soon as the jutsu begins, your teacher starts the hand signs for another one.

"Fire Release: Fire Dragon Bullet!"

From his mouth erupts a stream of flame, igniting the earth projectiles as it goes. You try to dodge, but the volume of attacks is too great, and you're inevitably hit a few times. You manage to get around the stream of fire and hit the earth dragon with a blast of Impact chakra, ending the technique. The Third stops his Fire jutsu as well.

"I see you're even faster than ever, Kon." Sarutobi praises. "That combo has felled many a skilled ninja. But for you it was but a hindrance."

Boand's mood has markedly improved by the time the two of you clear the rolling hills. The better part of an hour is spent navigating away from the borders of the river delta where the swamp mother's seed has begun to germinate. Once you feel reasonably sure that Anid and Onid will not see you, you swap a few bindings and scoop Boand into your arms. Cloudwalker Stride carries the two of you in hurtling bounds across the verdant landscape. Hills rise and fall beneath you as the plains slowly recede to mellow grasslands. Eventually even that pastoral landscape gives way to grittier fare. The rich soil degrades into thin golden sand. The tufts of grass grow fewer and further between in the encroaching sea of golden dunes. Eventually the land drops off entirely.

The thin ribbon of blue on the horizon abruptly balloons into a breathtaking view of the sea as the land below drops away into a shallow cliff leading down to the waterfront. The waves lap serenely against the shore. The tide is high now, pushing at the edges of the cliff below you with each surging approach. You land in a small plume of sparkling dust, cratering the dune beneath your feet into a soft bowl in every direction. Arcs of electricity play across the dunes around you for a moment.

Boand slips out of your arms, straightening the thick tunic she wears as her bare feet touch down on the warm sand. She tucks a strand of hair behind her ear absentmindely, then turns on the spot with purpose. Her gaze rakes the landscape around you as you work to unbuckle your spear from the rest of your travel pack.

“Looks like we have a few potential spots,” she says. A glow of subtle cerulean follows her movements. You can see the same power pooling behind her eyes. “There's some sort of large crustacean brooding pool down the beach a mile or so to the south. There's some sort of wall a little further on—I can't get a clear read on it, but whatever it is, it's large.”

She glances over her shoulder toward the north. “Or, we can push this way. It looks like we might hit some ruins.”

“You know that for a fact, eagle eyes?”

Boand smiles, shaking her head. “No. Just a feeling.” She meets you gaze as the clairvoyant energy fades from her eyes. “I'll leave it up to you, fearless leader. Which way?”

If you're in the mood for a fight, the crustacean nest could be good. The ruins may have interesting local history to glean.

That wall sounds mysterious, though. You're not aware of any large structures in the area. Inspecting the area on Ayren's map, you find nothing but an ink smudge. Helpful as always.

Alright /tg/ today we're gonna play Meikyuu kingdom. It's basically a rules light streamlined and simplified version of that old school D&D dungeon crawl with some silliness mixed in.

The premise is that you're all part of rulers of your kingdom. You do dungeon crawls to finance yourself as you get finances, people, and materials from looting the dungeons and completing quests.

Anyway with your participation you'll roll up your characters, a kingdom, and complete a dungeon crawl.

There are six classes with a certain focus or gimmick.
>king
>vizier
>oracle
>knight
>servant
>ninja

King is the boss and has final say over court matters and authorizes the shared benny resource known as Voices of the People. Statwise he kinda fills up what's not covered by other classes by being good at 2 things and shit at 2 others

Servant is a support class and similar to King's backup function but they're average across the board. To boost that they get two jobs (Subclasses) which helps boost their stats as well as diversifies their skills

Vizier is the smart guy and play second banana to the king and sort acts as a second opinion to the king and he handles the resources of the kingdom. Due to being the smart guy he'll be useful for dungeon scouting and searching.

Ninja is the rogue but tankier cuz his high quest stat is linked to defense. He'll also be used for scouting, searching, and of course handling the traps thrown your way

Oracle is the charisma monkey and will help with negotiation and stuff like getting monsters to join your kingdom. He's also in charge of the religion which is pure fluff as well as acting as the healbot for the party.

Rolled 6, 2, 6 = 14 (3d6)

Part 2 of the intro spiel.

Anyway you got the knight and he's the fight monkey and he can either be a meatshield of the weaker members or a frontline badass. His carnage skill is very great for mowing down mooks.

Anyway for shits and giggles on charts like the naming charts, job, or background I'm going to let do RoC as the Japanese call it which is roll or choice.

Choice is obvious you pick one result. With roll well if it's d66 like some of these charts you roll 2d6 and read it as a percentile.

Anyway those who want to play should declare their what they want. And we'll move from their.

Anyway our players will roll this chart if they wish to gen a name for our lovely kingdom . I too will also roll for a name

Once a name is chose we will roll for the kingdom's traits which will give us all sorts of neat and useful shit

Some combos are :
Deep Cat Land
Orthodox [Name of where you're playing] Alliance
Eastern Magicalopolis

Also while I'm at it I'll do the kingdom traits roll. First is the the traits table and then another roll for what that table gives me

I hate monks.

Now, don't get me wrong: there are ways where "hitting shit with your fists" works. Exalted has the whole Greek Myth-meets-anime thing going on, and the martial arts make sense because they bend reality to make it work as well as swords and crossbows and shit. And since the setting is so Asian, and the only important martial artists story-wise are Immaculates and Sidereals, it ends up more-or-less working.

But games like D&D? Absolutely not. Putting aside that they clash thematically with the obvious Tolkien/Western-inspired design of every class (before you say "psionics," know that I think they clash as well, though for being too sci-fi rather than too Asian), there's the fact that there's a reason why pre-gunpowder armies used spears and swords and shit and NOT fists: they have inferior range, they have no leverage to increase power, and they aren't sharp. This applies to far more than D&D, by the way.

Monks shouldn't be a viable class to anything that makes even the pretense of realism. "Oh, anon, but it's fantasy! Dragons and shit!" No. Willing suspension of disbelief allows you to stretch what's allowed by reality, but not throw the rules of reality out the window. It doesn't give you a free pass. There's a distinction between "vampires" and "sentient colors that sail between dimensions singing to the fabric of the ether in order to keep it vibrating at the right frequency and prevent the metaphysical anthropomorphic manifestation of Pop-Tarts from stealing Nikola Tesla from his crib while still an infant."

That is what I consider monks to be in any setting with even a pretense of realism.

First of all...

>games like D&D
>pretense of realism

And second of all, you provided your own solution in first part of your post.

>and the martial arts make sense because they bend reality to make it work as well as swords and crossbows and shit

Next time you play a Monk, make it a Western-styled monk who worships a god and gains power from his faith. Like an ascetic hybrid of Cleric/Paladin but instead of using magic, they channel their faith and discipline inwards.

And instead of having your Monk-stuff called "Flying Crane Kick" or whatever, have them be called "Shepherd breaks the asshole's jaw" or something.

How important is it for a character's appearance to reflect their stats?

Would you accept something like a little girl with 20+ Strength or Constitution?

Stats are a combination of knowing how to use what you have, your actual physical capability, and so on.

I know how to safely lift something that's 50lbs and carry it. Someone of my strength who would try that without experience and training would have their backs snap in half.

If she's magical or has SF tech backing her up, then sure.

Roll it up your back? I can lift and carry thing more than twice my weight that way, it doesn't really have much to do with strength.

Hello and welcome back to Mortal Kombat Thief Quest, a continuation of Mortal Kombat Konquest.

When we last left our ill-fated hero, he travelled into the Ashlands with his vampire companion, Nitara. There they met Khameleon and found themselves dealing with the priests of the ancient Dragon King who guarded the Lava Shrine of the last dragon egg. Despite their efforts, the prophecy of the return of Onaga came true due to Reptile willingly bringing about the return of the former Emperor of Outworld in his own body. After escaping with what they came for, Cao can only wonder what fate is coming for his realm now that the Dragon King has returned...

Cao looks over at Khameleon. "Well, I wish you luck on your... quest," he says to her before turning. "I have to go find my sisters."

"Well, I'm not in a hurry," she says, changing back into her normal, grey-colored clothing and appearance. "The Dragon King is all the way across the sea. I'd actually like to see what has become of Z'unkahrah in my absence."

"Kotal Kahn has changed the city quite a bit," he tells her as they walk along. His thoughts stray to the Emperor, who undoubtedly will not be very pleased to hear that the Dragon King has returned. He also thinks about Skarlet, whom he sent to retrieve the Portal Stone, and wonders if she returned while he was crossing the sea. It certainly seems as though it was long enough for her to get back---he makes a mental note to go there and check, but first he wants to find Sanra and Hua.

"Perhaps you could give me a tour," Khameleon suggests.

"I'm not sure I have the time," he replies as he rounds a corner. "There's a lot going on."

"Oh, yes, it's all very exciting," she says in a bored tone. "Personally I never cared too much for Outworld. I think I'll leave at the first opportunity."

'Me too,' Cao thinks to himself.

Upon reaching his home, he discovers that neither Hua nor Sanra are there. Their home does not look like it was attacked, so panic doesn't immediately race through him, but he is worried by this. It's been enough time for Sanra to recover, so it's plausable to think that she could be up and about, but it's also the middle of the night. Surely they would be home...

"Something wrong?" Khameleon asks from the hallway.

>A) Search for your sisters in the tunnels
>B) Search in the streets
>C) Head to Skarlet's meeting place
>D) Check in with Kotal Kahn at the palace
>E) Other

We know they were not attacked or anything. Let's try and find Red because without the portal stone we can't return to kotal
