Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower is more of a modern equivalent for Warhammer Quest.

So does MTGO suck ass? I was thinking about getting into it, but after reading about the way everything works with event tickets and bots and whatnot it seems that MTGO is just straight shit. Anybody have experience with it?

Just use Cockatrice or XMage if you want to play online, unless you're looking for actual sanctioned play by Wizards in case you're fucked.

It's absolute garbage and half of the cards aren't properly coded. God help you if you try to stack effects properly.

It's the 13th century and you and the other PCs are die hard European crusaders in the Holy Land. Things have gone decidedly pear-shaped for the Crusader States and you've decided the current strategy is for the birds. In a last ditch attempt to salvage the situation, you and your band decide to follow an old lead in an attempt to get help: Prester John.

Following what you think are clues, you head to the utter east and after a long and dangerous journey, you reach the banks of the Yangzte river, and are confronted with an advanced kingdom which in your minds could only belong to Prester John.

There's only one problem. On the banks of the river is an army...and it's leader is someone named Kublai Khan...

Would you play this?

What would you want to be doing in this scenario? Leading armies? Banditry? Saving people?

A lot of it sounds pretty interesting and solid. My concern would be that it seems to have been pretty strongly dictated up to this point, so I'd be worried about railroading in the future.

Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread

I'll start: in D&D 5e, how do I determine how many spells I can know as a cleric? I know that your number of PREPARED spells possible is your Wisdom modifier + char level, but what about my limitation of what I can know from LVL 1 and up? I'm not a wizard so I have no spellbook. I don't understand.

You pretty much know and can prepare any/all of them.

Yes, it's as retarded as it sounds. Maybe it's because they're less "spells" and more that you're asking your god for a favor?
>>
>>47770681
Clerics don't have the same limitation as wizards in that regard. When clerics are preparing spells, they may choose any spells from the cleric spell list, so long as they are spells of a level which they have spell slots for.

>After the war game was restarted, its participants were forced to follow a script drafted to ensure a Blue Force victory. Among other rules imposed by this script, Red Force was ordered to turn on their anti-aircraft radar in order for them to be destroyed, and was not allowed to shoot down any of the aircraft bringing Blue Force troops ashore.

>Red, commanded by retired Marine Corps Lieutenant General Paul K. Van Riper, adopted an asymmetric strategy, in particular, using old methods to evade Blue's sophisticated electronic surveillance network. Van Riper used motorcycle messengers to transmit orders to front-line troops and World-War-II-style light signals to launch airplanes without radio communications.
>Red received an ultimatum from Blue, essentially a surrender document, demanding a response within 24 hours. Thus warned of Blue's approach, Red used a fleet of small boats to determine the position of Blue's fleet by the second day of the exercise. In a preemptive strike, Red launched a massive salvo of cruise missiles that overwhelmed the Blue forces' electronic sensors and destroyed sixteen warships. This included one aircraft carrier, ten cruisers and five of six amphibious ships. An equivalent success in a real conflict would have resulted in the deaths of over 20,000 service personnel.
>Soon after the cruise missile offensive, another significant portion of Blue's navy was "sunk" by an armada of small Red boats, which carried out both conventional and suicide attacks that capitalized on Blue's inability to detect them as well as expected.

I'd be pretty salty if I was Blue tbqhwyf.

Sup' /tg/, I've recently had the idea to run a game in which the PCs commanded a small airship flotilla and I would like to know which system you think it would be the most appropiate.

>obligatory inb4 GURPS
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>47769860
Going only by that you could play it in fucking anything.

So I'm going to do the reasonable thing and shill Strike! You can either stat out the airships using the tactical combat stuff, or the vechicle supplement (though I have not read that).

But really, based on that premise any generic system would work, or even non-generic ones with very little adjustment.
>>
GURPS lacks a 4e vehicle supplement though, so the best thing you could hope for is a reworked spaceships thing (using that system would be a bit cumbersome though if you tried to control a whole flotilla).

I would consider picking a wargame for the flotilla stuff and a rpg for the character stuff
>>
>>47769908
A wargame, then? Color me interested. I'm not very familiar with that type of games, so I would be very grateful if you suggested me some.

Also, I'll check that game out.

DM's campaign was basically, "the royal bloodline is the linchpin that's keeping the universe running" and the king was old and dying. The only other member of the family is the princess, who has been kidnapped.

Bad guy transfigured the princess into a dragon and left her behind guarding something. We fought her. I killed her. The universe started falling apart. Unbeknownst to us, the king was kaput. The GM hadn't expected me to do that much damage that quickly. The universe started shaking apart but we managed to rez the princess before everything fell apart. She gave us the finger and planeshifted out.

And that was the last session of that campaign. So, as far as I'm concerned, I destroyed the universe. That's what happens when the GM deliberately wants to run a "high-level powergame" in DnD 3.5.

I'm calling upon your crativity, /tg/.

One of my friends is currently attempting to homebrew the fuck out of a monster campaign and has given us a couple of pages worth of example standard D&D-ish "enemies" to play as.

I'm torn between the idea of playing as an angel (with added backstory that he/she fell from their city in the sky, doesn't remember why because of the force of the trauma and can't fly because of reasons, all of which seems cliche as fuck, but safe) or being an actual monster and playing as what is basically a Beholder. The latter appeals to me more the more I think about it, but I can't come up with a good background and goals for him, as my friend gave us no details about their possible society, how they are born, what do the eat, etc., and would probably ask me to invent such details myself if I asked him.

What do you think?

Pic only somewhat related, as I want to take this somewhat seriously.

so play the beholder of course

start with basic beholder outlook: yours is the superior race - if only you could find others of your own magnificence ... the other party members will have to suffice as your unwitting servants while you search, despite their incompetence

or subvert: alone of all beholders, you are self-loathing, a feeling only confirmed by the contempt of every other beholder you have ever encountered - there must be some way to transform yourself into a creature worthy of the envy of all others

>Playing in a Pathfinder game (first mistake)
>Low level campaign, level 6 characters
>Play wizard
>Early on in the campaign, get a Black Tentacles scroll as loot from the first "boss" of the campaign. (For those unfamiliar, Black Tentacles is an incredibly powerful spell that grapple-locks everything in a large area and does decent damage to boot)
>GM tells me I can cast from this scroll, despite not being a high enough level to use the spell normally.
>Fuckyeah, trump card for emergencies.
>Hold on to scroll for about 3 more plot arcs
>Get in a situation where we're up against the GMs super special werewolf boss monster
>Start getting mauled cos squishy mage
>Decide to use my scroll to get away and keep this thing locked down until it's transformation wears off (or at least until other party members can get there to keep me from dying)
>Cast spell
>GM fiat says the werewolf basically rips all the tentacles out of the ground as and is pretty much completely unaffected
>Trump card I've been saving for 3 plot arcs...
>Get mauled, almost die, party members almost die, lots of innocent civilians die

Decided to not really say anything about IRL because everyone else thought it made the boss more intimidating and the encounter more exciting... but I was still pretty pissed that something the GM knew I was saving as a secret weapon pretty much got fiat'ed into uselessness because I decided to use it at a moment when it SHOULD have been super effective.

Are races racist and technology keep secret within different races, so a kind of difference in weapon tech between races occurs, or is it more a multiple race mixing occurrence?
