You ever play in a game (or run one) where all the PCs are part of the same family?
I think it could befun.
>>47787461
I don't think i'd enjoy it.Unless it was an ERP.
>>47787461
Families aren't fun.
>>47787461
Family bonds are useful for bringing players together, for example making everyone cousins. That's about it.
When is it considered unsportsmanlike to concede a game in MTG?
>playing against a dude with B/G removal/ManLands designed around plinking you away slowly while destroying any creature you can play
>Has over 23 removal spells
>I only have 20ish creatures, my gameplay is based around playing creatures
>he can literally in ANY hand deal with my opening hand of 3 playable creatures and remove anything I can play afterwards
>almost no responses, gamestate is just drawing cards, taking damage, playing a creature that gets blasted off the table
Next Standard night, if I run into him again with the same deck, I plan to concede the round to him. I understand this may seem salty, but my deck has almost literally 0 play against him. And in this current rotation, I don't have a real way to deal with his removal in a 15 card sideboard. I'm sure he enjoys playing things each turn and having things to do, but I don't enjoy sitting down for 30 minutes only to have almost 0 interactivity.
So, is it considered unsportsmanlike to concede when you see a deck type you literally cannot compete against?
>>47787371
No, but I know the pain you speak of. My senior year, one of my friends was a control player and constantly used a deck of nothing but kill spells.
You got mad
Use your sideboard or just play a game for humor and concede g2. He could potentially get mana screwed/flooded twice.
>>47787371
There is zero shame in knowing when you can't win and cutting to the chase.
However, sideboards are a thing; consider dedicating a few sideboard cards to matchups like this. Creatures with hexproof or indestructible, for example.
Has any one else watched this? : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7F2cwguf1I
I am 35 mins in to the video and 2 things thatjumped out at me are:
"the Ip manager told us to stop hinting at it (at legions 2 and 11) "
(talking about the 6 DAngels wings) "Dread wing, and then you have storm wing, Iron wing and Fire wing" FIRE WING what is this? what dose it mean?
>>47787139
The Wing that focuses on Flamers and Meltas. DA's legion gimmick appears to be the prototype Legion that tested our everyone else's specialty and still retains knowledge of how to do all of it.
I assume this is explained by saying most of the other wings were wiped out during the accidental armoury explosion that destroyed Caliban after the Horus Heresy.
>>47787139
timestamp for the 2nd and 11th comment, I can't listen to him for that long
>"the Ip manager told us to stop hinting at it (at legions 2 and 11) "
heaven forbid the most potentially interesting aspect of 40k and the Imperium ever have any light shed on it
I'm running my first game today, /tg/. D&D 5e.
The party consists of a Half-Elf Ranger and an Aarakocra Rogue.
What kinds of quests could I send a pair like that on? Recon?
It would be far more helpful to tell us the character's goals, personalities, why they're together, rather than just race and class.
Seriously, what do your players want out of the game? What are their reason's for adventuring? Build some quests around that. If someone is hunting for a criminal that took someone or something precious to them, start the campaign out with a rumor or a lead to follow or something like that.
>>47786189
Quest to find the rest of the group.
What moron DM let someone go an Aarakocra?
Did you ever have any campaigns where you and your gm had a secret you kept from the rest?
Mine was that I was actualy a noble girl who hired the party to look for my missing husband to be. I was disguised as a boy swordsman who works for my house.
I was going to answer seriously, then I finished reading the post.
>Shit that didn't happen
>Thinly-veiled fetish thread
Yeah, I've played in game where characters have secret agendas. They're only really good if the GM directs the plot to facilitate a big payoff. Otherwise, they either never come up all (in which case what was even the point?) or they just lead to a dissatisfying party wipe.
I find the big reveal is too restrictive and I trust my players to be adults and keep out of character knowledge out of the game, so when I GM I always have secrets like this shared openly with the group. Its worked out pretty well so far.
>>47785993
4e game ages ago.
Party thought my character was staying out of the sun due to being a dark elf. He was actually a vampire, and the reason they were constantly waking up with one less healing surge. For about the first half of the game they thought there was some sort of magical shenanigans going on.
It was pretty great.
Okay, so I was advised by a friend to visit this board for entrance advice to W40K. My experience with Warhammer was buying and painting a small army in the fantasy universe, and occasionally studying codices of both 40K and Fantasy. I stopped collecting these miniatures because I was told by a few "popular" kids that it was autistic. But I've realised that there's nothing greater than being comfortable with who you are.
I am honestly interested mostly in the W40K universe as a way of being able to study a fantastical universe other than our own. So what books, codices, or other texts should I start collecting first?
Pic related, because I'm chicken-hearted.
I got nothing, but I'm gonna bump you. Godspeed anon
>>47785840
Pick a faction and just spin off from their really
>>47785994
Thanks friend.
Good morning boys and girls! Not sure what became of the thread last night- I ended up having a minor family emergency and didn't get home until fairly late, so I apologize if any questions went unanswered!
Trying to understand "protection".
To what extent dos it actually protect a creature? Like obviously a creature can't be targeted by a red spell if it's got protection from red. But for example, could a foul tongue invocation force someone to sacrifice Emrakul? Or is it simply immune to all effects that result from coloured spells?
Also does targeting Thunderbreak regent with Ulamogs cast ability cause Ulamogs controller to take 3 damage?
>>47786182
Protection from Red, for instance, means it cannot be:
D amaged by red spells or the abilities of red permanents
E nchanted/Equipped/Attached by Red permanents
B locked by Red creatures
T argeted by Red spells or abilities from Red sources.
D E B T. Damage Enchant/Equip Block Target. That's all protection stops. Foul-Tongue Invocation does none of these to Emrakul, so it can hit Emrakul.
>Ulamog question
Is Ulamog's triggered ability an ability?
Non-Socratic answer: Yes.
>>47786182
The handy mnemonic for protection is DEBT. Something with protection from {blah} cannot be Damaged, Enchanted/Equipped, Blocked, or Targetted by anything that is {blah}.
For Emrakul, Foul-Tongue invocation targets a player, not emrakul - so its protection doesn't apply.
Years ago I was about to buy Caesar mini adventurer because they were cheap and versatile.
But I didn't and now they are out of stock.
What are your ways of finding cool minis that won't cost me 3$ per piece, and aren't part of a bundle containing only 1 human male?
>>47785714
Try searching ebay, I managed to find full boxes of them, the Uruk-kai, Dwarves, and skeletons armies from Alliance and Caesar.
Try searching for Caesar Miniatures or 1/72nd fantasy in Ebay
>>47785760
Actually, following up on my post here, doesn't seem you can find them that way anymore as I just tried. I can see Caesars ratmen, goblins, and more but not their adventurers line.
>>47785803
Yeah I've pretty much abandoned the idea of this particular bundle.
So if y'all know of any other one that is similar...
Greetings friends, please pardon my intrusion.
My friends and I have been playing D&D 3.5e and we realized that it's somewhat boring. My DM gave me a free pass to find a new system that's much more interesting to work with, and I figured I'd come here first to ask the seasoned veterans of /tg/.
Do you have a preferred system you enjoy using?
>>47785418
>Do you have a preferred system you enjoy using?
I sure do.
>>47785438
Would you tell me what it is?
You don't have to if you don't want to. ;_;
>>47785418
If your group knows anything about 40K lore, do Dark Heresy.
If not, try Mutants and Masterminds.
156 pages, same as it was before going weekly. No indications of whether release schedule will change or pricing. Could be better or worse for leaks depending on whether it covers the past or the future. The switch to weekly did feel like a downgrade because at only 32 pages there was much left to read about after the obligatory advertising.
Hopefully Designer's Notes becomes a staple, have always felt that some of the best stuff was seeing the Design Studio and sculptors talk about why they did something. Bonus if they include concept art.
People probably won't stop complaining about WD doesn't teach them how to do X thing that 10+ people on the internet already do via the better format of video.
Now I feel guilty for telling the editor guy the current format was shit at war hammer fest
>>47784469
Why? It was, if this relaunch makes it good again i'll thank the salty fans that made that clear
so i take it visions is being dropped and the hobby stuff and such is being rolled back into WD?
>Be me, casual DM of a 5e group of 4 players
>2 new players wants to join, why not I think (1st misstake)
>Both say that they have "extensive experience" with d&d
>They roll up a bard and a barbarian
>RP commences the barbarian looks confused
>He asks why we are being "nerds" and when we're getting to in his own words "chop some fucking monsters up into tiny pieces and wear them as necklaces"
>Not wanting to get into an argument with the edgelord I told him in due time because the party was in the middle of a dinner session with Count Strahd
>Edgelord looks really uncomfortable as party engages in RP
>Edgelord proclaims that he has had enough and draws his mighty greataxe and challenges the vampire to combat
>Party freaks and tries to calm him down
>Wizard grabs the edgelords' arm and tells him to sit down and apologize
>Edgelord proclaims that he turns his attention to the wizard and slashes for his throat
>Crits of course
>Crits the next swing too because the RNG gods hates me and my party apparently
>As wizard is on the ground bleeding out, edgelord charges Strahd
>Strahd tore his ass open and used him as a sock puppet
>Edgelord is utterly shocked at me because I killed off his character
>"You don't kill the players you fucking retard" he yells at me with utter murder in his eyes
>Thankfully the fighter in our group stands up and kindly asks the edgelord to take his leave
>Edgelord punches the fighter right in the face
>As Brawl ensues I'm sitting there cringing my mantits off
>Edgelord has had enough and decides to leave but not before leaving me with a present
>Edgelord spits in my face while I sit there like a lil' bitch feeling super awkward
>We decide to post-pone this session until next week
>Everyone leaves
So that was my tuesday..
>>47784393
He could've said something like "You know, I think what you and I seek in a game are different, so I'll take my leave." but some people are just asses it seems.
My tuesday gaming session was nice. We didn't make much progress but it was nice nonetheless, with all faces left unpunched.
>>47784393
Really? I've never played an actual D&D game so does this shit actually happen? Who gives a shit if your character dies just make a new one, the fuck?
I can't believe people would react like this to a bit of roleplaying, paper and pencils, you'd have to be mentally ill.
Not to insult you or add injury here, but you shouldn't have let him roll fuck all against another player. That shit is where you ask him to leave, since he had already made it abundantly clear that he is an obnoxious moron who is trying to be disruptive. In the future, try to be assertive here, at this point, so it doesn't get so far.
Sorry to hear you got spit on; none of what that moron did is a reflection on you. You aren't a super bitch just because some turbospazz was off his meds and didn't know how to deal with people today. I hope you guys enjoy your game next Tuesday.
I've decided to build a "hard science" hacking game from scratch. Here's what I have so far:
Skills:
1- Software - servers, terminals and security systems
2. Telcom - phones, fire alarms, and ATMs
3. chemicals - explosives, stun grenades, and hallucinogenic darts
4. mechanical - firearms, locks, car engines
5. electronics - home appliances, lighting systems, vending machines
6. programmable logic controllers - railroad equipment, industrial equipment and cranes
7. robotics - drones, trucks, and cars
8. social - lying, bluffing, and disguises
Ideally the player would pick 2-3 to specialize in. Any suggestions?
>>47783875
To check the power of firearms and explosives, the majority of player travel would be through paid subways where they'd be confiscated. Players that would want them have take a paid cab or walk which takes time (each day passed gives four "opportunities" to do things, and "walking" to/from a place would consume two).
>>47783892
Additionally, once every three turns the GM would roll a d20 for a random event (1-9 = no, 10-20 = yes) which the player would have the option of pursuing. Quests would be "timed", and have to be completed within a certain number of ingame days or else the player looses reputation with the faction/questgiver.

Your character has just been challenged by his/her rival to a belt-fight, or "Spänna Bälte" as it's known.
"The challenge was thus, that one fighter pulled his knife and asked his enemy 'how much cold iron his gut could withstand'. The answer was: 'Well, I can withstand as much you can'. The challenger measured off a piece of his knife's blade while threatening: "I shall carve you up, and sun and moon shall shine on your remains'. Subsequently the blades were wrapped with leather straps below the mark, shirts were discarded, and fighters with raised arms and knives at the ready grabbed each other with the left hand on his enemy's right elbow. In this way, standing chest against chest, bareheaded and bare to the waist, they were either tied together with a belt tightened around both of them, or their belts hitched together, so that no fighter could tear themselves away from the other. Then began the battle of life and death, in which it boiled down to warding off the enemy's blows with your left had, while trying to free your right hand to cut your enemy. This bloody game continued until one of the fighters fell, and the winner became 'mightily respected among kin and foe alike'."
Would your character survive this brutal duel?
Pretty good, yeah.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym0hZG-zNOk
I got this shit. Got the theme music and everything.
>>47783720
ah crap replace "elbow" with "wrist". It's hella difficult to translate from ye olde swedish to modern english
The swedish wiki page on Spänna Bälte if anyone's interested

have you ever had a character wear a full-body costume (or fully covering armor) to conceal their identity? how did it go?
Yes. It concealed their identity.
No because it's impractical and uncomfortable.
>>47783654
I once played in a eastern-fantasy game as a ninja-styled character whom specialized in disguise... however, being able to actually act out the roles actually ended up mattering much much more than the costumes themselves. To be honest, I actually didn't have my character conceal her face most of the time, as it being seen didn't exactly mean much in a low-technology setting where photography and such didn't exist and her physical description was average enough to be like half the population anyway. I DID always use fake names though.
Anyway, yeah... if impersonating a priestess, it was important to know a region's religious myths and histories. If impersonating a oiran, it was important to know how to perform and keep up a conversation about topics like art and culture, ect. The character ended up being based primarily around non-combat skills because of it (and liberal use of poisons when the need to "deal" with someone did arise).
Why is this so popular all of a sudden?
>>47783447
>all of a sudden
Ever heard of Scholar's mate?
>>47783447
chess has been popular for many years
>>47783460
Sure but I've never once played against a Patzer online, except for the last two days where I've seen it three times. Was it used recently by a GM or something?
