Played it back in high school. Haven't touched it much since but I remember it was kind of fun. I liked the tongue-in-cheek humor it applied to otherwise serious situations. Shit like advisers going on about hunting the national animal or members of the press popping their heads out of air vents so they could weasel a zinger out of you.

Of course, it was about as accurate of actual geopolitics as your average Civ game.

I remember the community wasn't really my scene though. Mostly just a bunch of UN-loving neoliberals ragging on America, the UK, and Israel. I don't find those types much fun to talk to and from what I've heard they've really just gotten worse.

/tg/ I'm in a bit of a dilemma. Me and some buds got together to plan our 5E campaign and get our characters ready. We finished preparing our characters much earlier than expected so our DM wanted to run a practice session for the 2 people who were new to D&D. One of our players, who's familiar with 5E and tabletop in general, had a huge shit-flinging contest with the DM while we were having the practice session, and somehow it ended up the DM voting that I run it while he revises and further prepares his campaign.

I had no problem with it since I figured it was just practice, and I've never actually DM'd before. Somehow I've managed to keep them captivated for the majority of the session with a story that I was pulling out of my ass. After the session, it came to an agreement among the players, original DM included, that I should be the current DM and keep this going as intended campaign.

Should I cut this short because I have absolutely nothing prepared and the orginal DM is pretty much dumping his responsibilities onto me, or should I keep this going because everyone is having fun?

If they're having fun, you're doing something right. Keep going, I say. Even if you're just improvising, if your players are having a good time, then there's no reason to stop.

If the load on you is too much then definitely reconsider, but pulling things out of your ass constantly is not at all a bad GM style, at least depending on the kinda game you want.
>>
>>47809481

Just grab a published adventure and run it. The Starter Set adventure, Lost Mine of Phandelver, is quite good, as is the newer Curse of Strahd.

I wouldn't mind veering this campaign towards Barovia. Is it possible to work of a module after the first session?

So, on televised depictions of RPG (i.e., D&D), and here I am thinking principally of Big Bang Theory and Community, the procedure used is the GM rolling a d20 to determine outcomes of player choices. (I think Spencer Crittenden did this on Harmontown, which may account for the Community depiction.)

I've never played that way. At our tables the players each roll most skill attempts, and always all personal combat rolls. Do others do this most, or is the GM rolling method (depicted) most common?

Did I miss a clear suggestion in the PH or DMG?

>>
I've never heard of a real group where the GM rolls everything.
>>
>>47809336

Depends on the system. And whether or not someone has crazy hands and always throws the dice under the table.

It's false. The idea that the old power armor is a rare sight or hard to obtain is absolute horseshit. A full suit? Sure maybe, but going by the canon appearance of every Ultramarine in Second Company by M41.999, virtually everybody here is wearing some form of unique older mark of armor mixed in with their aquila stuff. In fact, supposedly "rare" armor and bolters seem to be common as shit as individual pieces. Let's just look at the first squad, numbered 1-10.

>1 has either a MK VI or MK V breastplate and older HH period bolter.
>2 has MK II legs and either MK V or VI pauldrons
>3 has MK IV pauldrons.
>4 has MK VI helm, MK IV pauldrons, and MK VI legs
>5 has MK II or III pauldrons and a relic bolter
>6 has a MK IV helm and either MK V or VI breastplate
>7 has a MK III breastplate and some artificer modded leg armor.
>8 is wearing MK V or VI breastplate and MK VI pauldrons
>9 is wearing a MK III helm, MK V legs, and either MK V or VI breastplate.
>10 is wearing MK VI legs.

Now while the basic space marine troop box comes with MK VI parts, why the fuck doesn't it include MK III or MK IV bits when these things are quite clearly mixed in with other pieces?

It's rare (though still doable) for new Space Marine Chapters to get a hold of older-model wargear and relics, because their Chapter doesn't have the level of clout and the history behind them to merit having them.

Chapters like the First Founding Chapters, however, have incredible clout and the history of actually using those armor patterns when they were once commonplace, so it's entirely logical that they're going to have a lot more of them.

The older your organization is = the better shit you get, for a wide variety of reasons.

You seem to be a little triggered here, anon.
>>
>>47808334
Wow. The most well renowned and wealthy first founding chapter has a significant amount of old armor in one of their companies. Obviously the outright stated fact that old armor is rare must be wrong.
>>
>>47808334
Because the setting has very little consistency, the old is good generally is in relation to armor worn by hero's (has been imbued by the Spirit of the wearer via latent physic aura of humans adding to its power level over the Millenniums; as it ages it gets a greater "soul"/ machine spirit.

The other flip side is the tech is sooooooooooo ancient it is from the golden age and literally irreplaceable and one of a kind space magic technology.

Hello /tg/, I'm going to be a running a Hunter: The Vigil campaign soon and I was wanting to go for a more rural "town in the middle of nowhere" type feel for it.

I'm not sure what state to set it in though, and I was wondering if you had any suggestions? There needs to be an abundance of woods, hills and generally places where spooky shit can be taking place.

That doesn't narrow it down at all. There are hills and forests in every state in the union.

I'd set it in the midwest if you really want to play up the 'anywhere, USA' feel.

Do any of you play fakes?
Have you ever met anyone playing fakes?
What's your stance towards proxies that are trying to pass as legitimate cards?
12 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>47807125
I don't play with proxies because I just play casual Commander, and I like the challenge of dealing with my deckpool limitations. BUT, I have no problem with other players using proxies. I think for a legitimate strategy game, everyone should have access to the same options.
>>
>>47807171
This is surprisingly reasonable.

Yes. I as well as 2 others at my local shop each have entire legacy decks proxied that we play sometimes. None of the regulars had anything resembling a competitive legacy deck and we wanted a chance to play the format. Theres a certain alure to playing Miracle mirrors that make games satisfying to play although it certainly isnt something I could do all the time.

Outside of that I know that pretty much everybody uses proxies for fetch lands and some of the more expensive staples in their EDH decks simply because people want to play at least somewhat competitive games and seeing as how EDH is secondary to standard/modern only a few people are going to want to put any money into their decks.

I personally dont see an issue with using them because I dislike how wizards conducts business but I do understand completely why they are banned in official competitive play

Hey, I am an ex-/v/ browser here. Been kind of down in the dumps lately because how the videogame market and community has been filled with leftist propoganda and cucks, shat the bed and gone stagnant, releasing half completed games at full price that are just copy-paste sequels of existing games. I tried mirgating to /pol/ to discuss vidyas current polotical climate but got banned from there because some faggot reported the thread for "not polotics" I have a hard time staying in /pol/ because the way the world is going makes me depressed. I need my escapism again but vidya doesn't do it for me anymore because they shove politics and propaganda into it nowadays.

Do you got any games you would recommend that doesn't have any polotics or communties trying to shove polotics into it? Please, even for an /pol/lack /v/irgin like me?

I just want to have fun again...

Anyone heard of Aces and Eights: Shattered Frontier? I've been itching to get my cowboy on but haven't seen any good western rpgs, heard this one was good. Cowboy western rpgs I guess

Haven't heard a thing about it. My favorite Western RPG is still Dogs in the Vineyard. I like the resolution mechanic. I like that character advancement (or at least character change) comes from failure as well as success. I even like the ersatz-Mormon paladins conceit, though you can easily change the setting. Hell, I was in two games where we used it to run Dark Tower/Stephen King Multimeter games.

/tg/ also came up with a Wild West setting based around 54 supernaturally powered guns and the people who use them. I believe it was called Wild Cards: Sons of the Guns.
>>
>>47806711
That sounds awesome. I'm personally looking for something a bit more realism-oriented and gritty but supernatural cowboy action can be cool too.

How does one accurately portray the mental degradation that comes from killing another human or realizing you are doomed? I feel like it's very similar to SAN checks in Call of Cthulhu, but I was thinking more of designing a Sanity system for something like World War 1, where running through the jungle only to find a big anti-aircraft gun on the other side and the sudden realization that the air support you were going to relieve is doomed and you have no way to call them off. Plus, even if you do, you and your entire platoon are dead men without that support.

Everyone reacts to extreme stress in a different way so there's no real way to do it "right"
>>
>>47806130
I like the multiple sanity meters system Unknown Armies uses. You've got five gauges: Violence, Helplessness, Isolation, Self and Unnatural. Every time you encounter a stress you have to roll to resist it. Succeed, you get a Hardened Mark, fail, you get a Failed Mark and have some sort of freak-out. Each stress has a rank from one to ten, if you have more Hardened Marks than the rank you automatically succeed. If you get to ten Hardened or five Failed in any gauge, your character goes some manner of insane based on whichever gauge it's in (so ten Hardened in Violence would make you a violent sociopath, while the same in Self would make you a personality-less robot. Five Failed in Violence would make you flinching at everything, while five in Self would make you completely unsure of your identity and probably develop a dissociative disorder). There are also roleplaying guides for how your character might act at any given level in each gauge. It's a neat little system.
