Hey /tg/ trying this thread again today, as yesterday I got barely any feedback. I've been into tabletop games for a few years now, and though I've always been interested in wargames, I've always been intimidated by the sheer volume, and price tags associated with them. If possible could you kind anons help recommend me a good wargame? If possible I'd like the wargame to contribute to some larger campaign or narrative rather than just being isolated "dudes fighting each other".
Secondly I'd like to be able to play an army with an undead/necromancer feel, use the dead of my opponents against them, recycle my own soldiers, etc.
And thirdly I'd like for it to not be too expensive (no more than 250 investment preferably)... I know that's probably a lot to ask, but I really would love to get into wargaming and make some friends, but I dont know where to start and I'd appreciate /tg/'s help

Age of Sigmar actually fits what you are looking for. Your dudes aren't isolated since it's possible to travel in and in between different gigantic realms.
And for playing undeads just buy a box of zombies and a necromancer. They do not cost that much in the long run.
>>47853900
Warhammer rules are great, age of Sigmar is sort of meh in my opinion but works too. Go with the undead or vampire counts army or whatever the fuck their name is now days, you get to run necromancers that can reinforce or summon up zombie/skeleton units in battle by raising the dead.
If the price of models is an issue (plus gw zombies suck) look at kings of war models instead for your rank and file, just use gw shit for hero or important units. Loads of campaign material is available for warhammer and you can get pdfs of all of it if you do a little digging.

Frostgrave is what you're looking for. A cheap campaign driven fantasy skirmish AND it is all the hype right now, so you will actually find players for it. In short: you have a little warband lead by a wizard and they search a lost city for magic stuff. I never played it myself, but afaik your wizard can be a necromancer.
AoS is not what you're looking for imo. I don't even hate the game, but if you're put off by expensive models/armies, that is the first problem. 2nd is, that right now it is in a state where everyone is waiting for the supplement, that makes it officially playable. And then it will probably have the same balancing issues that all GW games have AND it's really not made for an elaborate campaign mode. Also the fluff is the cheapest excuse for dudes fighting each other in the history of fantasy wargames. I really don't want to hate on AoS, but first take a look at Frostgrave.
3rd option, if you plan on playing with a friend/relative only, and so build 2 forces anyway, you can go for any game. So you might want to take a look at Song of Blades and Heroes and it's various supplements. It needs even fewer models/terrain than frostgrave and also has a campaign mode (iirc). It has no fluff though, so you have to make up your own stories, or buy models that already have a background (like lord of the rings, song of ice and fire and you normal warhammer fantasy dudes) and play with that.
We just had a general for fantasy skirmishes, it might still be up, they had most of the SoBH pdfs.
What's up, fa/tg/uys? I posted a few weeks ago about my concerns about a larp I was writing. It happened yesterday and I am relieved, that it is all over.
1,5 years of larp making and here are a few highlights about the game:
> game begins, the church is locked, have to wait for 30 mins for the doors to open
> the guy who was cutting the pork didn’t show up, had to use Main-GMs husband and an excuse ”the servant has passed out, don’t worry, our sherrif knows what to do with knives”
> the players forgot their motivations etc during the trial, so for example, the rong person was judged for suicide (I was too far away ton notice and when I came to see what was going on, it was too late to correct them)
> cavalry spent too much time riding, came late
> Kings men took too many young men from the village, almost ruined their game, they had to escape
> captain of the guard was killed by a man who he had raped (alot)
> killer killed himself rather than been taken prisoner
> it rained all the time
> engagement was called off, since too much violence and death
> the village was left without sherifs, the noble families in stryfe and the main economical focus point ruined
> on the plus side, the Swedish gold was taken by ne of sherrifs, he his wife and whifes friend fled to Italy
Now it is all over.--
Sorry if my story is not detailed enough, game with 90 characters (including the GMs) that lasts for 7 hours is hard to compress in a few lines.
>>47853661
anon, honest question here: are you on drugs?
>>47854410
No, just trying to unwind from the larp. I posted most of the main points of the game here, where people talk about gaming.
What system would you use to run a survival horror game like Silent Hill?
Probably something rules lite, like this.
You can use skills, sanity, etc, and the system is easily added to

If she blows like I think she does, then I will Hiroshima her Nagasaki, if you know what I mean.

Too fat, though, probably weighs like a megaton.

We have That Guy threads all the time.
But what about That Group?
Where everyone seems like the worst kind of player?
Although technically, you might be the odd one, or That Guy if you tried to stop them.
Anyone have any horrible group stories?
Or regular That Guy stories too I suppose.
Posting pic related to prove that /tg/ still gets shit done, regardless of whether or not it should have ever been attempted in the first place.

Any type of help is welcome
also i'm going to play akind ofsolo campaign inside a hive city.
>>47852393
>isn't a complete edgylord
But why do you care about that? Just be a chaos cultist.
>>47852393
Don't worship Khorne or Slaanesh and you should be fine.
>>47852393
Just have your character like.. Do the right thing man.
The humans, elves and dwarfs of the setting live in a black swampdesert in buildings that look like they're made of obsidian and spikes
The orcs, trolls and werewolves live in a green and pristine land of lush forests and shining white spires
>>47851965
And the orcz wonder why we invade their lands and enslave their people's.
We asked to move in nicely millenia ago, but no they had to be cunts and say no.

I've been a player to a gm who takes copious notes and have tons of print-outs, and now I've started to gm myself and it got me wondering, how many GMs keep their campaign notes so they can run that campaign again sometime in the future for a different group (or sharing them online)? Currently I feel that it's a 'one and done' kind of thing, but the more work I put into my setting, the more I feel that isn't the case.
so to all the GMs out there, do you keep your campaigns? Do you share them? Or just forget them.
>>47850825
You keep the good, trim the fat. You'll never get an exact copy of a campaign just because the nature of people, but you can take all the parts that definitely were the best and reuse them in different places.
I write whatever happen in my game on my diary but mostly for memories, you know, I want to read that 20 years from now
Never come to me the idea of playing the same campaign with a different group.
>>47850825
I try and keep notes, usually I forget. I've started making forms to keep track.
I share scenarios. Whole campaigns need more flexibility, it's hard to write them out. But I tend to share scenarios that don't come directly from the campaigns I'm playing just because those have chapters with very specific conditions and they cater to the characters. For something to put on the web I want to keep it much more flexible.
So I'm making a sandbox like campaign where the party has a general quest line but can literally do whatever they want. Any suggestions or advice for this game? looking for some off the wall stuff to add into this game.

Swords are metaphors for penises.
>>47849970
I recommend you do a pre-game brainstorm to figure out how the PCs know each other and why they're hanging out at all.
As of now i have a quest to find and kill a lich who made an undead legion and is attacking some towns. thus the party goes to kill it but cannot find the phylactery. they go all over the place to try to find it only to discover the lich's phylactery is another lich, its wife. the reason for the attacks was to be reunited. they can kill both of them or let them be happy idc which.
Is there any tabletop game where I could play/command a squad of mecha pilots? I've been wanting a game where I do my best to command semi-autonomous soldiers that can disobey orders, flee from combat or can grow to become distinguished pilots
Also, general mecha thread

Off the top of my head:
-Perry Miniatures
-Warlord Games
-Wargames Foundry (metals only)
That's assuming you're sticking with 28mm. You get into 1/72, you get spoiled for choices.

Gonna play some SAGA, by any chance? Watch out for the FUCKING Welsh

Yeah, saw it on YouTube and thought it looked neat.but what about the Welsh?
Tell me about the Homunculi ,or other artificial life, in your setting, /tg/?
A fantasy setting I'm working on has a big golem/construct focus. Like a magical I,Robot, golems build and move and deliver. But for a long time, Creators have been trying to make golems that could think. A great Creator reworks tye very nature of the basics of golem creation and golems can think, but at a price. They increased complexity of golem brains leads to more energy expended, which adds to wear and tear. Golems now have to occaisionally recharge at wells of power. This has led to a strange shift in behavior, golems now have places relatively free of living interactions, and they only interact with eachother. They are creating their own culture, even their own language.
>>47847615
I had a plan for a small side quest before. Village girl was going to turn out to be the homonculus of a long dead alchemist. Unlike most who lose their creator, she was pretty sane and had just taken up running her "mother's" apothecary for the village. But she wanted to be a real human, maybe try that dating thing humans seemed to enjoy so much, eat food, sleep and dream, all that stuff. But she needed the PCs to help find certain reagents that could push her animation to true life...
... and then one player pointed out that constructs can be polymorphed into other creatures just fine and a minor item the girl could easily afford would solve her problems quite handily.
>>47847615
Every time I write up/run a sci fi game, I always find a way to work in androids because I love androids.
I'm planning up a space opera game right now and I'm working on how to include them. I want to take a leaf out of Bladerunner's book, and make them illegal to some degree. But I can't decide if they should be completely illegal or just banned on certain planets.
I'm leaning towards the former.

depends on a lot of variables that you've failed to mention.
Going to play d&d for the 1st time soon, don't know how the game works or an technicalities of the game.
Have you read the core rulebook for the edition you're playing?
>>47844813
Helps to read the fucking rulebook, champ. :))
You can also try finding some live recordings of DnD sessions on youtube, they'll give you an idea of what happens in a game.
