What am I in for?
And what other companies make true scale historical models?

Off the top of my head:
-Perry Miniatures
-Warlord Games
-Wargames Foundry (metals only)
That's assuming you're sticking with 28mm. You get into 1/72, you get spoiled for choices.

Gonna play some SAGA, by any chance? Watch out for the FUCKING Welsh
>>
>>47848135
Yeah, saw it on YouTube and thought it looked neat.
but what about the Welsh?
>>
>>47847644
Warlord games do hail caesar, lots of plastics and great ruleset
>>
>>47847644
Get a box of dark age warriors. Can't have your non-hearthguard wearing mail shirts. Seriously triggering stuff.

Javelins, javelins everywhere.
>>

in "mm" what would 1/72 be? I thought 1/72 was reasonably close to 28mm.
>>
>>47850324
28mm is more like 1/54 scale than 1/72, which is closer to 15mm.
>>
>>47850383

ahh, now I get ya, thanks anon.

No, 1/72 comes out as 25mm. which is non-heroic scale 28mm models, like warlord, victrix etc
>>
>>47850324
1/72 is definitively 20mm. 28mm is 1/56. 1/100 is 15 mm
>>
>>47851161
what this anon said, 1/72 is closer to 20mm than anything else.

unfortunately 1/72 companies are notorious for their scale creep, so your mileage may vary.

You're in for pretty good value for money, decent plastics that at a pinch can represent most of the big players in Northern Europe 400-800AD, espiecally if mixed with the Saxon kit

Actually, I only have experience with the Saxon kit and the generic kit, but they were pretty good and the Viking sprues look almost the same as the Saxon ones.
>>
>>47847644
Congratulations, you've found a very good kit. Now get some Dark Age Warriors to round it up (and allow a fair amount of kitbashing between them), and you'll have enough for at least 2 SAGA armies.

As for historical minis, there's also Conquest Games, mostly doing Normans.

It's VERY neat.

Incidentally, /hwg/ has a fair few SAGA resources, if you haven't looked there yet. And can probably help you with other recommendations for models.
