Is there any justicifation for a society in which the dominant force of the land are raiders and barbarians, and the establishment of largescale law, order, and governments continually fails despite the efforts of settlements who are forced to remain divided and huddled behind walls?
Asking this for both medieval and post apoc.

Average soldier is a drug-crazed bestial wolfman/goatman/gnoll/tigerman with claws, teeth or horns, Tough hide providing DR, and usually scent or some other comparable ability
He gives them savage pig-iron weapons, shields, and sometimes chainmail scraps. They get a stipend of BloodRoot and sent on their way, harrowing into the fray.
Otheriwse, the wizard kings are doing well. Silk, jewels, and golden-bronzed jewelery. Finest sweet wine and fruits. Teleportation deployment and magically enslaved minions.

You have to pick a ship, an AI, crew and mission. Feel free to review and comment on each others choices.
I've picked an industrial but sturdy ship, with two AIs to ensure redundancy in the event of malfunction, and a highly trained and disciplined crew.
I am ensuring that they will not fuck up by taking a very low risk mission; obtain eggs from a primitive alien species, and place them in cryo.
Should be pretty routine. Milk run really. nothing is gonna go wrong.
