>tfw help your little brother design an adventure for his first ever RPG session and realize an 11 year old kid just made a way better one than half your idiot friends ever did
People get too caught up with bullshit "originality" or "epic story" and shit they forget how to make something good.
>>48914904
> helped by his older brother
The magic was in you all along.
>>48915028
This. Kids aren't as worried about muh tropes and all that other bullshit that goes on in the heads of adults. If they have an idea, it goes into the adventure. It usually means that the adventure turns out to be an insane mishmash they have no hope of running properly, but it's at least fun
Ok so, I've got three (3) core players. That means I have only three persons that can have a say in what I run. The other five players aren't there enough to be able to choose what we do.
So we just finished a campaign of low/dark fantasy D&D, and now we need something new to play, so I suggested different ideas. Here are the things people agree to NOT DO.
Low Fantasy, Dark Fantasy
Sword & Sorcery
The 20s
Modern setting in general, so no 20th/21th century
Futurism/Anticipation/Cyberpunk
Space Opera, Science-Fiction both hard and soft
Space Cowboys (cause it's Sci-Fi)
Western without Space (cause no western)
Feodal Japan as Samurai
So yeah, wtf. What do I run. What do I even *try to suggest* to my players and hope they'll be into it? The worst is, all of those options are appealing to one, or two out of three players, but I can't just run for two persons, and I'd like those three core players to be there and entertained cause they're the best members, and the group is quite new since I made a new one without the That Guy that had infected other of my old players.
I don't need a game system, I need ideas for campaigns.
>>48914682
A high-politics crusades game
>>48914711
No Politics says player 1 and 2, they're both traumatized by another DM's Masquerade campaign. Good idea in itself tho, do you have more?
I'd like to do some kind of Sword & Planet thing, such as Carcosa, but we all want to take a break from D&D as a system for a while.
Run a setting of nations they have control over and let them all kill each other over land/resources, religion, etc.
Hey, what sort of /tg/ related gifts would be cool to recieve or give? I'm asking because my dad wants to give me something for my 21st, and wants to get something special that'll last a lifetime (or basically one). I love almost everything /tg/, especially warmahordes and tabletop roleplay but he wants to get something in between several hundred dollars and one thousand dollarydoos, and I can't figure out anything that is that expensive?
Help would be appreciated, but other than that, /tg/ gift thread?
Always thought these were neat, not really in that price range though.
These make sweet gifts, stone dice from norse foundry
>>48914193
Your dad wants to give you a memento from him about your hobby.
That being said, specialty dice or tabletop-related furniture are good bets, as they can be expensive while also lasting a while.and be sure to be thankful that you have a father who loves you, Anon.
What are some nice way for goblins to defend a dungeon?
Wood wall with arrow slits is interesting. What else?
>>48914163
Disguise it as a museum.
Dungeon:
>Hero barges in
>Sees treasure
>Steals treasure
Museum
>Hero barges in
>"Welcome sir, shall I give you a tour?"
>Sees treasure
>"Ah, a fine piece, made by Lord Vardack the Dire in the 5th century. He had an eye for finesse but you can still feel the natural touch of the craft. Shall we move on? This next piece..."
>"Please, do not touch. And no photographs please."
>>48914163
Cage traps. Even dragons can't beat a wooden cage.
>^^^
>>48914163
Murder holes, another level in the ceiling only accessible from further in with holes in its floor that arrows can be shot through or rocks and hot oil dropped through.
Would you rather play in a generic D&D fantasy world or a generic JRPG fantasy world? Even if you did use [insert D&D edition waifu] for the system anyway.
>>48914091
So what are we talking like Eberron versus FFT's Ivalice here?
>>48914091
Genetic fantasy. Weebs should all kill themselves already.
There's a difference?
What did WotC mean by this?
Dinosaurs when?
>>48913997
Fuck yea I want a dinosaur plane
>>48913997
>>48913997
Lizard beasts or dinosaurs tho?
>See morality "Does Paladin Fall" thread yesterday, with over 9000 replies.
>Implying morality can be decided upon
You now realize that in a world with resurrection spells, you have new meaning to pro-life. Res'ing someone is just like abortion, how do you decide who gets to be resurrected? EVERYONE has equal rights, right? I mean yeah, its not cost effective to res everyone, but its not cost effective for many parents to raise a child they can't afford, but they do because "Pro-Life".
Discuss
>>48913963
How is resurrecting someone like an abortion?
>>48913970
I think you missed the point. NOT resurrecting someone is like an abortion, who are you to decide if they deserve it or not, everyone has equal rights to be resurrected or no one should be.
I'm not sure I've recovered enough from the last moral debate...
Considering the fact that, in some settings, magical creatures have naturally evolved, could magic be considered an adaptation? If that is the case, why wouldn't most creatures be out-competed by their magical counterparts? Would magic come from an organ?
>>48913962
Maybe. Because if you get an overly successful predator they either break the food chain, or hunt sustainably. Perhaps.
Depends what the magic does?
Also, as far as I'm concerned, if you've got creatures evolving over millions of years to use "magic", then it's not fucking magic anymore. That's just the world running on very different rules to our own.
>>48913962
Magical predators can only survive by eating magical prey. Mundane creatures are mostly safe from them.
How do I run a "trapped in a time-loop" arc in my campaign, /tg/?
>>48913819
Confine players and make the loop subtle.
>>48913819
Listen to One For The Vine by Genesis (or at least read the lyrics if you hate 70s prog) to get an idea for how to do it subtly and tastefully.
How do I run a hypercube dungeon in my campaign, /tg/?
Do you actually have to min-max/powergame your characters in order to have a sure chance to survive a game session in DnD?
Has anyone actually attempted to make a sub-optimal character just for the sake of roleplaying?
No, no one has ever played a sub optimal character and survived ever
My rolls are complete and utter shit unless it is a massive fight or extremely important fight. So yes, I will minmax because RNGesus hates me.
So, my party just made a transition from 3.5 to 5e, and now my character is a light cleric, apparently. I've skimmed through PHB, like a lot of the new mechanics like concentration, but my class and spec bother me. They don't seem that strong, to be quite honest, and my character feels like a worse evocation wizard overall now.
Am I missing something, /tg/? How do I play a light cleric effectively?
Clerics get a lot of fun stuff from their Domain so you want to look at that.
>apparently
...if you are a class that you don't want to play just ask if you can be something else because you don't like this class.
>>48913176
as a light cleric in 5e, you're the same old healer/support as in 3e, but now you can fireball now and again. Just use Bless constantly, and whatever else you like, and you'll do fine.
If your group has a rogue, a paladin or any other class capable of nova damage, Contagion (Charisma) is fantastic when you get 5th level spells
>>48913951
>the same old healer/support as in 3e
Someone's never built a CoDzilla cleric.
Hey /tg/, I just picked this game off a local game store. Wizard seems slightly unbalanced but it's a great drinking game. I don't play too many table top games on grounds that I'm usually playing mtg but I've been trying to diversify. I think the games that make me tick are social ish, fantasy pieces. Sooo... Red Dragon Inn discussion thread + recommendation thread for a dude who wants to get into tg with his normie friends?
They also similarly seems pleased with the level of strategy and drinking aspect of the game.
>>48912440
I suppose I should add that I've played Citadels and Sabotuer as well as this Energy Grid simulator board game, and I liked most of them save Sabotuer. Let's not recommend Settlers of Cattan or Puerto Rico? I guess games where everyone can have a good laugh at the end of the day is what I'm gunning for, and not ones that ruin friendships. Sorry if that's a bit vague and also if Citadels specifically runs counter to that theme.
>>48912440
If you want social games, you want social deduction games.
You should look into Love Letter, Monster My Neighbor, The Castle of the Devil, The Resistance and Secret Hitler.
>>48912523
>social deduction
>Love Letter
At first I disagreed but what else can you call using the Guard to peer into your opponent's heart to know the card in their hand?
>existed too late to be able to really invoke Age of Sail tropes
>existed too early to be able to really invoke steampunk/Victorian tropes
Any love for the 18th century in RPGs?
Nigga, 1700s are prime pirate real estate time.
>>48912133
Yet everyone's always all about the 16th and 17th centuries because muh Caribbean.
Where has people's sense of style gone?
>TFW none of your friends like board games
I literally cannot believe this.
>>48912001
I literally know your pain.
Doesn't help that Monopoly is the first thing to pop up in their minds when I invite them and most of them refuse outright to even try them.
>>48912961
Monopoly can be fun.

You've just got to read the manual.
So I have been planning on playing a few one-shot campaigns with friends and wanted to try this one and a few others. Which are your favorite one-shot games?
I was thinking nicotine girls for a truly depressing weekend.
>>48911720
Tenra Bansho Zero.
>>48911720
>one-shot campaigns
>>48913451
What is wrong with that?
