>Some doors should not be opened
Do you agree with this sentiment?
Context is dungeon exploration in role-playing games, but could be broadened.
>>49036981
True. Dungeon delving is a resource management game, where you weigh the risks against the rewards. Eventually there comes to a point where exploring further is no longer worth risking a TPK, and the party returns home with their loot.
>>49037009
Wouldn't you feel compelled to return back at some point to explore further?
>>49036981
Yes, but the problem is that it's difficult to determine which ones shouldn't be opened.
Sometimes it's obvious, but only if you comprehend the warnings.
Sometimes the warnings are lies.
Sometimes the lack of warnings is the lie.
Sometimes the warnings are true, but must be ignored anyways.
The only doors you can be certain should not be opened are the ones you opened already. And then, well...
Hey /tg/, need a bit of help with some research.
I need some media (preferably scripts or theater plays) on Dungeons and Dragons (or roleplay in general).
Not so much about the game, but people sitting around the table playing the game.
I found She Kills Monsters and a bunch of episodes from stuff like Community, but anything you guys would recommend? I need to shore up my review of related literature.Plus points if you just give me plays about people just shooting the shit and/or being asshats to one another while at the table.
Double plus points if it's Filipino.
>>49036665
more context please. do you need RPG theory? actual play examples?
>>49036704
Uh, a little RPG theory, but more emphasis on the people playing with DnD being like a vehicle for their drama?
Something more Zero Charisma I guess, loathe I am to use it as an example.
Any suggestions are good though! Mostly trying to figure how we could make a session on stage interesting for people to watch.
>>49036748
The Gamers. Part 3 is focussed on not!MTG instead of RPGs but it shows (as does part 2, iirc, and less so part 1) how to mix gaming with real life plots of the gamers.
They're available on youtube, I believe.
Can a male player really properly role play a female character?
>>49035349
Can George RR Martin properly portray female characters in his books?
>>49035349
Well, social justice warriors seem to think that gender is a social construct, so theoretically yes.
Just play a trap, if you act like a female wrong because you're male, well, guess why?
Inarguable.
Hey all, I would just like some input on a session I just had. We're playing 5e D&D.
Scenario:
>lvl 10 war cleric/pally, lvl 13 rogue/bard, lvl 11 moon druid/pally.
>hostage in the middle of room
>room was completely black, so i dropped daylight
>can't see any enemies
>we enter and trip a wire, allowing alchemist fires to fall
>fucking swarm of enemies suddenly reveal themselves
>10 bandits (i'm guessing)
>6 assassins (all ranged and on a raised platform)
>1 archmage (CR 12)
>1 rogue based on character class (level 10), with a bonus action to hide in shadows.
>1 captain (estimated CR 10)
>hostage was chained so we couldn't just grab him and run
>we get fucking stomped, close to death
>we eventually free the hostage and run away
Now, my DM mentioned that our main enemies were CR 12 and 10, while the rogue had class levels which equaled 10. He also said that the fight was completely beatable by our party of 3. We were expected to beat them all.
I added it up in Kobold Fight Club and it got DEADLY awfully quickly.
I'm just wondering, how accurate is KFC?
Am I wrong in thinking that this was terribly one-sided?
I feel like if we would have been able to at least see the people inside, we could have planned accordingly. The way it was presented to us, there was no strategy that we could have taken, and none of use have truesight or the ability to see invisible things.
I just think that the balancing was way off.
>>49034240
What I put in KFC was a quick mock-up of what I thought the equivalents would be. I was being very lenient.
>>49034240
Either your DM is just making shit up or you are. It sounds like neither of you have read the books, either.
Have you made your own props for a game, /tg/?
Maps are common of course, and miniatures add flair, but have you made or modified some other items for your games?
Pictured is the stage for a very special episode of the Teela-O-MLY Show: "The Computer's Darkest Hour!", used earlier today in my PARANOIA game.
>>49024786
>an IRL Paranoia game
Well, I'm already pretty jealous.
>>49025964
For added mandatory FUN we run it with 2 co-GM's and about 8 troubleshooters. It lets us split the party into two rooms, or have one answer notes while the other handles all the above board events.
My co-gm also has some old military field phones, so we can put up a phone line between the living room and the kitchen so when the party is split they can still call each other, winding a crank to make the bell ring and everything.
When we do maps we print them out on A0 paper, covering the entire tabletop. Especially fun if colored above red, so that most of the Troubleshooters have to be very careful about where they put their hands down.
>>49026234
You are true heroes!
I co GM as well. Laundry.
We show some effort. It's more prep than I've ever done before, but it's all real world stuff so I can steal.
That, there, that is fucking brilliant.

Everyone does, eventually. Everyone but you, Jumper.
Surely your Companions grew weary at some point. Surely they decided they needed to go home - unless, of course, you've done unspeakable things to their minds.
So tell me about it, /jc/. Tell me about the ones who retired.

Welp. Looks like another new jumpmaker has stepped into the ring.
Here we go.

>Going "all purgers are now as powerful as your most powerful enemy" is a bad, bad idea. For twelve hours a year the nation is filled with Magneto clones or Alexander Andersons or First Evils or Withers or Fathers or Doom demons or ME, DIO! It's such a very bad idea.
Ok, it not a good mandatory requirement, I will give you that.
For the regular purgers, I read it as them getting lesser boosts then the founding fathers, like if a New Founding Father was Magneto level, then run of the mill purgers would be regular "Brotherhood of Evil Mutants" mook level powers.
Personally, I thought it worked rather well as a 12 hour gauntlet. Don't know WHY everyone hates that Idea that much.
If you want to make a difference, take Pilotico for the background knowledge, and try to actually take out some of the NFF with the 12 hours you have. If they kill you afterward, that NFF you killed is still dead, and your chain continues. But you EARNED that murderboner you have for the setting.
It seems more like they want 10 years for their Hate and Murderboner, because 12 hours is just not long enough for all the Murderboning they want to do.

Well, I'm considering taking the plunge and going full Krieg. The gas masks are just too sexy to pass by.
/tg/ let's design a game system. We're going to make it system neutral, unless someone suggests a kickass idea that we decide to focus the game around.
The core mechanic will be 1d10-1d10, with a tens and ones digit d10 being assigned to each place. I like this mechanic because it creates a statistical bias towards 0, with higher rolls being outliers. This means that more extreme failures and successes (-9 and 9) are less likely, and creates an easy-to-use degrees of success system. It also puts more emphasis on character skill, to both mitigate failure, and increase the rate of success.
I like the idea of staying away from Hit Points, and instead using a durability system. Or making Hit Points a variant option.
New mechanics and suggestions will be decided by popular vote.
it should be called Rule 43
I don't get it
The fundemental dice system angers and confuses me.

Have your characters ever had any significant body modifications against the will?
One of my characters was a sky pirate with a magical peg leg that was a fey spirit who wouldn't leave him alone. He lost his leg to a sky shark btw created by the fey because they figured it was needed as there were sky pirates. To keep with theme and all...

You could say that I have.

No, she's a doctor. she's going to be incredibly busy the next morning, no way she could afford to stay up late.
Yes, he doesn't like killing innocent people but has horrible bloodlust that he has issues controlling when complacent.
>The only thing considered worse than having weebs in your game is having a player that forcibly inserts obscure fetishes into the game
Explain what's wrong with having weebs in your game. There's literally nothing wrong with taking inspiration from isekai/fantasy anime.
>inb4 the party will consist of a catgirl princess, an otaku gone rogue and a hotblooded swordsman who fights for his friends
As opposed to a male human righter, a female half-elf ranger and a dwarf cleric? The problem here is the mindless use of stereotypes, not anime as an inspiration.
>inb4 but now all of the adventurers want to be the very best like noone ever was
In /tg/ that translates to wanting to become king. When was wanting to become king not a valid end goal in fantasy games? If we take higher powered systems like D&D as an example, by the time you hit the upper levels you're a match for the greatest of demons and even some lesser gods. You're pretty much the most suitable candidate to become a monarch at that point, and it wouldn't be surprising for the old king to offer you his crown on a silver platter.
>inb4 but everyone will play some dark, edgy, brooding anti-social londer
What is Drizz't Do'Urden, the drow that inspired an entire generation of edgelords? Again, anime as an inspiration per se isn't the problem here. It's edgelords being edgelords.
>Inb4 but everyone will want a kitsune waifu
As opposed to nymphs, elves and redeemed succubi (the latter of which are downright canon according to D&D 3.5e web supplements)?
>But think of all the references and memes that will ruin the game!
1. Monty Python gets quoted all the time. Again, weebs per se aren't the problem.
2. A day withoutMegumemeis like a day without air.
tl;dr: There's literally nothing wrong with taking inspiration from anime/manga.
I like western animation sometimes.

I don't see them going anywhere near religion for a good long time yet.
Too controversial.
>>49046229
>What are the odds of a new faction
Slim to nil.
The new Masters, or rather the new familiarity of the designers with how the game actually works, will already be giving them enough to think about with regards to balance and game consistency without adding a whole new Faction.
Aside from that, I fucking hope not, fuck bloat for bloat's sake.
