Just switch them up a bit. But them in weird environments, or add class levels.

Is the ship where they are right now or does is it in the nearest port?

Because there isn't an ocean, sea or even a large lake for a very significant distance.

Hey /tg/, need some help. I'm looking for a system. A friend of mine wants to run what he calls "The Viking Campaign", and we need a system to work with. Something low-magic, more of a focus on martial combat and roleplaying. A D20 system would be good, since that's the type we're most familiar with.
If you guys have any ideas let me know.

You could probably get away with just using 5e. Low level, and restrict what classes can be picked.

You might want to take a look at Riddle of Steel if you want really want to focus on the martial combat business more though.

I'm looking for an interesting take on a Conan-style barbarian in a classic fantasy setting.
What's an interesting way to present a barbarian? I know that people tend to create barbarians as orcs, humans, and dwarves, but what's another race that you think would make for a good barbarian?
Anything outside of the barbarian's race would also be cool to discuss, but I'd like to have something fundamental like race decided early on before I start fleshing out this character.

Pick what races you want and run with them. Usually in Sword & Sorcery games non-humans are incredibly hostile. Rather than going with standard fantasy races, why not go with stuff like beastmen.

Welcome to the Accidental Magical Girl thread!

Various worlds and multiverses have become connected together via the mysterious Overcity, a sprawling landscape inhabited by monsters and magical beings. Girls and boys endowed with their new supernatural powers can work together solving conflicts that arise!

A majority of activity (including campaigns) instead happens in the Rizon IRC and the Discord, which is open for newbies to join.
Characters can be rolled with the CYOA's purple PDF, the Supplementary Combat System can be used for campaigns and PNP, or AMGC's blue pdf which contains its own rules for PNP campaigns alongside the rolls.

Introducing the MGCYOA Supplementary Combat System!

The SCS was made as an add-on to the CYOA to cover the combat side of roleplaying. It allows players to easily take characters made in the CYOA v1.5 and use them in Quests and long-running campaigns alike.

So im playing Pathfinder and my party ran into some sick people strapped to a scarecrow post. We know what ghoul disease is.

The chaotic good ranger in my party kills it even though my lawful neutral cleric says we should just bring them back to town and have them cured

What am i supposed to do? This is murder to my PC, how am I supposed to RP this without completely turning against my party for this clear murder.

It's a disease that can be cured, and yet they just dont care.

Cowboys and pirates both imply guns, and I prefer to not use guns in my games. Thus Ninjas win the day.

They all come in so many different flavors. Any rugged individualist might as well be in the cowboy mold. Any subculture that swears loyalty to a lord and supports him with sneaky stuff in the middle of the night is in the ninja mold. Every reasonable setting with commerce has pirates. There's no way you don't already have all of these elements, if you squint a bit and really look at your setting.

Hey, I want to do a low-fantasy historical campaign that draws off of themes in epic poetry. I'm mainly looking for a setting in history where most or all of these magical tropes are present in some form so I can make it all make sense.

I'm looking for these specifically
Thaumaturgy (could be construed as any socially acceptable mainstream religion i guess)
Goetia (Anything resembling that culture's depiction of demons or lesser spirits or what have you)
Psionics (is this even a thing?)
Necromancy (Voodoo........?)
Hermeticism (something like sympathy or control of the elements)
Alchemy
Astrology
Animism

Here's my situation, /tg/.

>have been playing tabletop RPGs since my grandfather ran OD&D for me when I was 7 (I'm 29 now)

>still like D&D, but kind of burnt out on running D&D and systems derived from it right now
>want to run a game for some fellow grad students in my department who have never played a tabletop RPG before

>doesn't have to be rules-light, but I would rather it not be super heavy

I'd say Ryuutama, Apocalypse World or Meikyuu Kingdom, depending on the specifics of your group.

I've had good experiences with introductory games in all three of these systems.

Mutants and Masterminds is pretty simple mechanically (requires imagination for the most part) but can be overwhelming the first time you create a character. I'd recommend it simply because Supes are fresh in a lot of peoples minds right now due to all the movies.
