I would like to run my first campaign with a bunch of my friends. Problem is-none of us have any experience in tabletop RPGs, and only thing last local group left are some handbooks and the guy that introduced me to Warmachine, but he doesn't want to help beyond just lending said handbooks. What should I prepair? I just have a bunch of miniatures form WarmaHordes and 3 other people to play with, tops.

Drop $20 bucks on the starter set so you have a premade adventure and characters.
If you're brand new, you might want to consider buying the 5e starter set. It's only $20 or so, and you get all you need to start a game (though you might want to buy some more dice), and it includes an adventure designed for new players as well as premade character sheets and a set of dice.
From there, if you enjoyed yourself, you should download or buy the full books, and you'll already have all the basic experience you'll need to run an adventure of your own (or you can always just download or buy a premade one). Be sure to stop by the 5e general for more advice, and I've also found that this page is useful as an introduction for brand new players. http://dnd.wizards.com/products/tabletop/players-basic-rules

The campaign would be 3-4 sessions tops. PCs are in a city overrun by sudden goblin/whatever raid, townfolks blame local basement wizard for it, wizard hires PCs for protection. During the job they find out he actually was involved in this raid and they have tofight him. Should be easy enough to run and interesing enough to stick people for another time. Thoughts?
As a level 3 wizard.

The ability to curse/uncurse any item I can see with a curse of my choice as an at-will ability.
The ability to cast the Heal spell as a 1st level spell.
A blank spellbook in which I can write the name of a spell and a short description of its intended effect, and the spellbook will automatically fill in the necessary arcane formulae required for me to cast that spell, even if that means inventing a whole new spell in the process. I can erase these spells from the book simply by crossing out the name of the spell.

A castle, a princess and a treasure hoard.
The princess has to be a demonin bed.
so what is your favorite faction in Warhammer 40k? any game or lore army, faction, or sub-faction counts. this means individual guard regiments or chaos raid groups.

If all combat damage is prevented on a particular turn, can creatures still deal special types of "damage," like afflicting opponents with poison counters? As far as I know, poison counters aren't contingent upon whether or not the creature can also afflict any conventional damage on the opponent. There are indeed cards with 0 power that afflict poison counters.
>>49060426
> (This creature deals damage to creatures in the form of -1/-1 counters and to players in the form of poison counters.)
>All Sliver creatures have poisonous 1. (Whenever a Sliver deals combat damage to a player, that player gets a poison counter. A player with ten or more poison counters loses the game.)
>DEAL DAMAGE
That's infect. The shit that says "when X attacks and isn't blocked" still goes through because it's conditioned on the attack going through
Absolutely not.
>702.69. Poisonous
>702.69a. Poisonous is a triggered ability. "Poisonous N" means "Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, that player gets N poison counters." (For information about poison counters, see rule 104.3d.)
>702.69b. If a creature has multiple instances of poisonous, each triggers separately.
>702.89. Infect
>702.89a. Infect is a static ability.
>702.89b. Damage dealt to a player by a source with infect doesn't cause that player to lose life. Rather, it causes the player to get that many poison counters. See rule 119.3.
>702.89c. Damage dealt to a creature by a source with infect isn't marked on that creature. Rather, it causes that many -1/-1 counters to be put on that creature. See rule 119.3.
>702.89d. If a permanent leaves the battlefield before an effect causes it to deal damage, its last known information is used to determine whether it had infect.
>702.89e. The infect rules function no matter what zone an object with infect deals damage from.
>702.89f. Multiple instances of infect on the same object are redundant.
>119.3. Damage may have one or more of the following results, depending on whether the recipient of the damage is a player or permanent, the characteristics of the damage's source, and the characteristics of the damage's recipient (if it's a permanent).
>119.3a. Damage dealt to a player by a source without infect causes that player to lose that much life.
>119.3b. Damage dealt to a player by a source with infect causes that player to get that many poison counters.
>119.8. If a source would deal 0 damage, it does not deal damage at all. That means abilities that trigger on damage being dealt won't trigger. It also means that replacement effects that would increase the damage dealt by that source, or would have that source deal that damage to a different object or player, have no event to replace, so they have no effect.

I don't see how this applies in the case of pic related.

>The shit that says "when X attacks and isn't blocked" still goes through because it's conditioned on the attack going through
Creatures can be enchanted to penetrate blocks. So if a creature with 0 power is unblockable and has Infect, then does the opponent get poison counters - even if an effect like Fog or Darkness is active?
Talisman appreciation thread.
This game has been around for over 30 years!
Do you like Talisman?
Tell us of your experience with this classic /tg/.
>>49059895
I haven't played it in a couple of decades, but I always found it too confining. For the most part, you're funneled along by the dice with very little choice, practically speaking (a choice between something that fucks you over and something that doesn't isn't really much of a choice). It has a cool feel though, I think if there were some way to inject more strategy / tactics then it'd be a pretty cool game. From what I remember of it, anyway.
>>49059895
It's a shit game.
But it's my shit game.
Got it in a church charity sale when I was eight. Played it a tonne with my friends and bro. Best £1.50 I ever spent.I cheated like a motherfucker.
Fantasy-skinned monopoly. Utter trash.
Comfy downtime thread.
Tell me about something comfy that happened to your characters or group. I'd like to hear of how you handle downtime in RPGs as well. I'm having trouble getting two of my characters to not give actions like "I sleep." "I clean my gun for two weeks."
I'm interested, Anon.
>>49059613
Stupid downtime: One of my fallen paladin players is trying to restore an abandoned manor house, hoping to create his own dungeon, but he doesn't have enough money to hire guards for his workers, so they keep getting attacked by undead and he has to ride out of town to save them all the time. Plus he has to pay hazard bonuses so his cheapwankery isn't working out for him. He somehow thinks setting up a dungeon will be profitable.
>>49059613
comfy downtime, yes! Recently, we had downtime, but we still felt a bit rushed, so we didn't do much. Our skald visited his family, which was pretty chill. In another game, I had a big bruiser that hung out with a local orphan. He trained him in the art of being a proper man, involving honesty, hard work, and respect for those around you. They were chums, and it was fucking great.
>>49061227
So hes throwing money into a blackhole in hopes of creating a dungeon? Is he planning on supplying the enemies for it as well as the reward for completing it? Why is he remaining fallen?
MY BBEG was a powerful mage that started delving into a forbidden school of magic and created several races of beastmen to serve his kingdom: molemen to serve at the mines, lizardmen to man the docks and ships of his fleet, etc. The races themselves weren't evil, but in order to create them he used dark magic and forbidden techniques.
Obviously, as he is the BBEG, he was corrupted by the power he wielded and decided to improve mankind itself, creating a race of demonic beings that are now the enemy faction.
I'm having trouble naming this school of magic, and defining which were these forbidden techniques. Any ideas?
Picture tangentially related.

The setting is a generic D&D-esque fantasy world, with one exception: all the deities share a single alignment. All of them.
Which of the classic nine would work the best for that? Which would be the worst?
Best: Neutral
Worst: CE
Best - Chaotic Neutral aka Chaotic Evil
Worst - Chaotic Evil / Chaotic Good
You know, with alignment subtypes, it is actually possible for a character (or deity) to have every alignment. You could be Lawful Chaotic Evil Good Neutral.
Can anyone tell me some good points and tips to make a proper modern-portal-fantasy setting WITHOUT it devovling into powerwank/nationalism/waifushit/tolkienesque/cliché filled one?

>>49057571
Really think about why you want to write it. Think hard. What is it that you want to do with this work, if not all of those things you hope to avoid? Then do that thing you've been thinking about. Then find a good editor, and actually listen to their advice.
Where does the general aesthetic from wizards come from?
>>49057388
The robes, stupid hat and walking stick look came from Gandalf who was inspired by Odin.
Also maybe Moses.
>>49057388
Didn't it have something to do with Zoroastrian mystics or something?

> Be me
> Play 4e, but really unsatisfied with it. Feels too much like WoW, with it's mandatory magic items, not-spells for everyone and other shit.
> Don't want to play 3.5, because it's fucking boring and has a lot of the same problems.
> "Anon, come play Pathfinder with us! It fixed everything! They buffed fighter and monk, it's all great now!"

I just want to play a game that feels like fantasy, like Lord of the Rings, where my character can't jump to fucking heavens or fight spellcasting supersonic teleporting dragons as mooks. I want a bear or a squad of orcs to be a threat to me, and I want my rookie fighter armed with his late father's sword to be an actually viable character.
I've heard all the same things about 5e, but don't want to get burnt again. Is it better?
>>49057101
> Be me
Well there was your first mistake.
>>49057101
5th is pretty much the same.
Play OSR games or WHFRP if you are interested in a low key, but playable game.
Alternatively, go riddle of steel or the burning wheel. They're harder to get into, but very enjoyable once you do.
>>49057101
I feel like Burning Wheel fits your criteria pretty well. Shame there's no pdf for it.

Wouldn't it be more practical to call an airstrike? Because Orks are pretty tough.

When your about to assault a bombed out building but you want the enemy to keep their heads down.
Griffons do more damage to buildings than basalisks.
Im still waiting for GW to mount one on a chimera. Why not? The sweedish have an APC called a CV90 with a twin barrelled automatic 120mm breech loading mortars.
Would you rather be stationed on Armageddon or Cadia? Also post pictures of IG getting rekt.
Armageddon because I would rather fight against orks than chaos. With chaos you have to worry about supernatural shit and being tainted whereas with orks you just have to worry about the 8 ft tall fungus swinging an axe at you
Depends, am I under Creeeeeeeds direct command? If not, Armageddon all the way. The 8 ft fungus swinging an axe at least can be tricked.
Armageddon, because according to Imperial Armour 13 (and possibly that new Traitor's Hate book or whatever it's called) Cadia is overrun by Chaos.
Haha how the fuck can a manlet be a threat? Just step on him or something.
Since no one else will give you the time of day, I feel bad. Here's the (you) that you were looking for.
