if WH40k or even Games Workshop in general, became mainstream (think Elder Scrolls or Candy Crush, etc.) would you still be loyal to it? or will jump ship?
>>50599851
Since most things lose quality once the guys in charge smell mainstream money, i will probably be forced to jump ship.
>>50599851
I'm not some hipster who only cares about something because it's obscure. All that would mean is more support, probably cheaper prices, and more opportunities to play. Unless they really fucked up I ain't gonna jump just cause I gotta ignore a few stupid normies.
>>50599851
Even better question:
How about a more mainstream, cheaper alternative? A war game that isn't gonna make you spend like a thousand dollars for a tau manta?
Word Bearers?, more like Worst Bearers edition

YOU FUCKIN TAKE THAT BACK OP
Dunno if there's a wiki for this but I couldn't find one
I've got a few friends who would like to rp but no one knows how to run a game. I've played a few in the past and seem to be the most familiar so I'm thinking about taking up that role.
Thing is I tried to run a game of D&D 3.5 once and it went to hell. The energy died very quickly cause I had to keep looking up rules and stuff.
Is there an idiot-proof system for an idiot like me?
I've been looking into Traveller because it seems like the rolling system is pretty intuitive but open to any suggestions. No genre preference either
Savage Worlds.
>>50599419
Ryuutama was explicitly designed as a beginner's RPG with Character and Ryuujin progression acting as a built-in tutorial for players and GMs respectively.
Heavy tendency towards set scenarios. Requires cooperation from your players.
Apocalypse World is idiot-proof as long as the idiocy does not stem from trying to run the game as if it was a different one because it puts all the good practices that may seem obvious or intuitive for experienced GMs into actual rules for the GM to follow.
Exclusively sandbox. Scenarios will fall apart the moment you think of them.
The issue with rules-heavy systems is that you either have to learn all the rules by heart or learn to confidently and convincingly wing it.
Both ways are very difficult.
I suggest abandoning all thoughts of starting with D&D, Shadowrun, Savage Worlds, The Dark Eye, etc. because you would need a mentor (i.e. an experienced GM who actually understands the system well enough to explain its nuances) to sidestep all the different pitfalls.
>>50600010
along with this, Dungeon World, which is based off Apocalypse World, is a medieval fantasy RPG with extremely simple rules. Real easy to GM. However, DW is more based on actual roleplay rather than just rolling moves like DnD, so make sure you and your players are at least somewhat decent at making shit up on the spot.
I'm running a Star Wars campaign based a couple hundred years after the original movies. I'm using the saga edition ruleset and am using the future aspect of it to take a ton of liberties with the setting.
One of my players really wants to play as a Yuuzhan Vong because of how 'cuhrazy' a choice like that is. He's understanding (i think) of the fact that they are like the covenant from halo mixed with the tyranid and a dash of cenobite from hellraiser. I'm not one to step on kittens, so I'm letting him give it a shot.
That said, I'm not without reservations. It's a much edgier character than I would ever try to play so I don't know what to recommend to my friend. How would you play a Yuuzhan Vong?
>>50599331
>How would you play a Yuuzhan Vong
like a Yuuzhan Vong.
I don't even touch inorganic technology
I cut my eyelids every day because pain is life and life is good
I despise the jeedai and their mind-tricks
I pay homage to the gods by capturing slaves and burning dead-matter tools
I master the amphi staff
I scoff at the "force" and spread the dominion of Yuuzhan Tar
>>50599424
If he could pull it off, he'd definitely steal the show. Every other character in the party is super normal in comparison. Not exactly the mascot they would've wanted. He wants to include himself with the group by having some hackneyed life debt plot with one of the other players or something. making himself out to be no more than a "sado-masochistic Chewbacca" as far as relevance goes.
I told him i don't mind that as long as he promises not to rock the boat too hard with his antics. Vong just seem too antagonistic to work well in a non-evil group.
>>50599588
>life debt
not how it works
If you're not a Vong you're an infidel and deserve only slavery.
Warriors are not afraid of death. Dying in combat is the ultimate rapture of pain and the greatest communion with the Slaughterer, it is the apex of life.
Seriously there's no way a Yuuzhan Vong would be even remotely able to function among non-Vong people.
Is there any way to make a good DMPC? One where I can be part of the action alongside my players without hogging the spotlight?
I have some neat character ideas that I'd love to play but I'm the only one comfortable with GMing in my group, and I don't want to have them around as one-off NPCs or party babysitters.
If your motivation is to be a part of the action, you will not be able to play DMPC right. It requires a certain mindset.
>>50599316
It's definitely possible, it's just generally not worth the trouble. My group actually get mad at me when I don't make DMPCs now.
>>50599316
Make them a utility character that buffs/upgrades/heals the players. That makes it so that they're useful without being in control. Also, make sure that they don't have a leadership position. Their advice/ideas should be given when the players are genuinely clueless and even then it should only be a smaller idea to jumpstart further thought. Also, use them to do party banter if the players don't like talking or need to be fleshed out more
Which is best?
>>50599275
thanks doc
>>50599275
Green at least came up with a solution to the endemic problem.
To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and- wait, wrong series.
Elves have plenty of characteristics that can make them grim-dark.
How would you make Dwarves grim-dark?
>>50599075
cult of the ancestors
According to Barg Bigernes, legends about dwarves are just distorted accounts of pagan children coming out of burial mounds during ceremonies, bearing the skulls of their ancestors.
So like, make them undead dwarves who reincarnate or something
>necromantic ancestor worship
>technology extremely harmful to the environment
>slaves instead of workers
>shitton of greed

First for having my hair ruffled by tsundere sylphs!
I know we talk a lot about the Ulfen, but can someone actually give me a run-down about their particular kingdoms and major settlements?
I know I know, 2d6 this and Linnorm King that, but what the heck is Kalsgard's deal, what's there to see? How about Jol? And why is White Estrid such a big deal?
Running a rigger and having no luck find jack for good drones, anything would be nice.

What are some spooky character or campaign concepts you've played or want to play?
Could a level 3 fighter take on 8 kobolds?
>>50597324
No. Action economy and pack tactics are working against him.
>>50597324
Why style of fighter is this? What is the environment they're fighting in? A narrow hallway or open room/field?
I recently started watching Critical Role, caught up to around episode 30, and Tiberius hadn't shown up, so out of curiosity I checked future videos to see if he ever made it back.
He didn't. So I googled it, apparently he left the group permanently, but the reasons seem pretty unclear.
Anyone know more?
They parted ways amicably. Anymore delves into the realm of hearsay, conspiracy theory, and even worse: gossip.
>>50597802
Alright then, such a pity though. Really enjoyed his absent-minded professor type.
He was kind of a dick. I think it had something to do with hitting on someone who was spoken for while drunk, but I can't remember.
I will be making a cyoa where heaven is the greater evil compared to hell.
Would be nice if someone would leave some eldritch abominations(or abominations in general), heaven/hell themed weapons (and of course some regular ones) and that sort of stuff
>>50596720
Do you plan on doing it back on /b/, where you belong?
>>50596746
He belongs on /r/, because he's asking for shit, and the cyoa belongs here, because it's a cyoa. None of this belongs on b/b.
>>50596720
That's a fucking stupid emo edgelord idea.
Well /tg/ I finally did it! After years of tryingbto convince my old party and failing, moving halfway across the country and getting into a new group and chatting with them, I finally have players for a Dungeons the Dragoning game! After commenting how I had helped with the homebrew book, they got curious and are now really wanting me to GM a game for them. This is all cool save 1 thing - I'm inundated with crazy and over-the-top ideas for the game but no real story. Would clearly stealing from Star Wars (episodes 4 through 6 only) be a good idea?
>>50596381
I think you just answered your own question, anon. God speed and story time later, please!
>>50596381
PLAY IT LIKE A MERC PROCEDURAL
THINK OF A BUNCH OF RICH FUCKHEADS
THINK ABOUT THE VIOLENT WAYS THEY FUCK EACH OTHER OVER
AS YOU PROGRESS WITH ONE GROUPS MISSIONS OTHER GROUPS HATE YOU MORE, IF YOU DO A BUNCH OF GROUP MISSIONS THE PAY-OUTS AVERAGE SMALLER BUT SUM UP BIGGER
EVENTUALLY YOU DO SHIT LIKE MURDER RICH PEOPLE FOR OTHER RICH PEOPLE
DO THIS ALL WHILE SNORTING LINES OF COKE OFF A PERSIAN STRIPPER
What does /tg/ think of 3D printing for miniatures?
>>50596061
I think it has potential however there is the problem of the layers making it difficult for fine details to stand out.
>>50596061
You'll never have the economies of scale to compete with bigger companies.
>>50596830
That would be true if you wanted to sell your own 3D printed miniatures. If you make them for yourself, it would cost lest then the ones sold in stores because there would be no markup. Of course you need to produce a certain numbers of miniatures for yourself in order to break even depending on the price of the printer. But a printer has other uses then just miniatures.

>As a Jumper, you don't have to pick the recommended list of skill packages. Have clarified.
Oh, huh. I'd assumed you got those in addition to your starting ones, as Firewall training or something.
Well. Shit. Now I have to spend 300cp extra on skills. Why are there so many delicious tech packages...
>Ego Bridge
I assume this also works for Companions, so it actually has an use despite the tech-less Resleeving perk?
>It's pronounced SPY-ME
How angry is Firewall going to be at me with this drawback and the DLC?
Also, can these sensors survive in the sun's corona or is my vacation spot free of them?
>Black Mark
Can you take this multiple times?
>Morph Dysphoria
Seems kinda weird, since there's no guarantee at all that a jumper going in has looked like their bodymod appearance in ages or considers that their mental selfimage.
I know my jumper has barely looked anything close to Bodymod, even in base human forms, for millenia. Between appearance perks, height perks, various eye/hair color-affecting perks, and more...
Maybe just go with a "default" appearance?
Also, does having Bodymod Biomorph satisfy the requirements of the drawback, or does it need to be an exact human replica?
