I'm now certain you have no idea what that means. You might know what it stands for, but you don't realize that it refers to the evil power behind the apparent villain, and not just a general word for all villains.

One of my campaign villains first crushes was a lesbian. He got over it and they ended up friends.
Another villain, a fallen paladin, kicked off the plot by kidnapping his childhood friend (who up until that point returned his affections, now she's not sure about his mental state).
Another villain, let's just say he had issues and an unfortunate infatuation with his brother's attention that thankfully went nowhere.

What are some good ways to make characters notably stronger, without items?

/tg/, I've been working on some worldbuilding for awhile now. It wasn't originally for an RPG, it was just something that I could post without too much explanation because it was heavily based on classic D&D 3.5e, with standard races and classes and themes. But as I got into it, I started to really personalize it and now I'm at the point where the setting no longer works for D&D, either 3.5e or 4e or 5e.

So now I'm wondering if I want to make my own custom system for it. I can see that I would totally disqualify most magic systems because I want to do a specific thing with my magic, for example. But the problem is that the basic conflict resolution mechanic is still rolling dice against one another, and in that respect I don't see any reason why I shouldn't use d20 or even just wholesale lift Warhammer Fantasy's mechanics minus the psychic stuff. Like, aside from magic and maybe naval combat, I feel like the stuff I'd come up with would only be a reskin of d20 and it'd just be super-gimmicky, like Dungeon Dice.

/tg/, is there any reason to make a new system or should I just try to fit my setting into a pre-existing one?

Always the first question when thinking about homebrewing a full system is "Who is this for?"

If it for yourself and you group, adapt an existing system. If its something that you want to share, or you really can't fit into another system, then go ahead. Or you could just do it because you want to. Just remember its easier to pitch new parts of a system that players are familiar with, than a whole new one, even if 90% of it is derivative of an existing system.

That said, in your instance, I'd say use an existing system, even if its a generic D20 system over something like DnD, and focus on replacing the magic system. Don't try to sell it as a new game to your players, make sure they know its X system with new magic rules. If it goes over well, then consider expanding, implementing changes to other parts to fit your needs better.

I migrated from 3.5 to my own system years ago OP, simply because I hated its race, class and some minor scale problems, the key is making it at least a little translatable. NEVER make your stats only work in your own quests. I briefly added Mana, which was the worst thing ever, simply because I had to homebrew every spell over again.
Your gonna need a little conformity, just for that sake of effort.

Yeah, I think I'll do that then. At least at first. I'll run with it and see how it feels, and if I like it I might put it on /tg/ like that.

I'm mostly doing it for myself, but to share. I just have had these ideas for this setting and for making my own RPG for a while, and I figured I might as well start on them instead of just sitting around waiting for people to respond to my resumes.

Between the Morlocs and the Cultists I would say you have to decide if the Cultists will just be an antagonist faction for flavor, or if you want them to be something players can play against one another.

Is there a reason why the Morloc faction is more interesting than the Cultists?

Elves cover the full spectrum. I don't think any are totally homo or heterosexual. Marriage isn't really a thing either as life is too long to be devoted to any one individual. Monogamy exists but its commonly understood among the elves that no relationship lasts forever. It's because of this tha elf families are full of half siblings.

That's the only sexual details I've developed so far.

What is Godbound? Is a OSR style high fantasy game using simple mechanics to reflect powerful characters that make decisions with lasting consequences. It gets compared to Exalted, but it's more like a TTRPG version of Dominions. If you don't know what that is, you should feel bad about that.

Somebody tried this already, A d100 roll over system. Six stats represented with letters from E to A each step expand the range of sucesfull rolls by 10, as do three kinds of chracter traint which you invoke by role playing or in proper circumstances.

As a fate point-eque meta reroll mechanic, you can drop your stats by a rank for the session, and if you do it to your Learning stat it is permanent, but allows you a make up new powers on the spot, which is very approprate for the genere.

Also, I think this could run the Nasuverse very well. I have some random ideas on that copied somwhere, I can post them, if you want.

Our Rogue Trader once dueled a rival in the middle of the party infront of an Ordos Xenos Inquisitor. Now normally this wouldn't be that big of a deal except the RT uses a best quality Eldar power sword he took off a howling banshee exarch. The result was the Inquisitor inviting the party to tea the next day and instead we took a long long tour of the dynasties holdings in the southern reaches.
