Alternatives for a fantasy game others than "PCs start as traveling mercenaries"
>PCs are a rugby/baseball/anything team
>PCs are a touring band (also commented on /tg/)
>PCs are journalists for an independent newspaper. They have to find awesome mysteries to write about.
>PCs are journalists for a government newspaper. They have to write the news the king wants to hear.

PCs work for the setting's equivalent to the SS.

>>PCs are a rugby/baseball/anything team
Which sport could be the most easy to run a match of, without it getting bored?
Not baseball; I could see rugby though. Maybe hockey or football
PCs were all just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Become allies of convenience.
I was just on vacation... When the undead attacked.
Saw these dice online with no sauce, don't suppose any of y'all know where they're from/where i can buy 'em?
Alternatively post nice dice, i need some new ones
Q Workshop steampunk dice, from the looks of it. I actually have those brown and yellow ones myself, but I rarely use them because they're kind of a pain in the ass to see sometimes and some GMs get kind of weird about that sort of thing.
>>51510307
Yeah, like he said it's Q Workshop. They have some neat dice.
>>51510307
>I rarely use them because they're kind of a pain in the ass to see sometimes and some GMs get kind of weird about that sort of thing.
Yeah. Keep that cluttered, hard-to-read, low-contrast shit off my table. Utility is the most important thing by far when it comes to dice. The blue and black ones look bad enough (they're needlessly cluttered, but at least medium-contrast) , but the yellow and brown are clearly an abomination.
You and your party are on their way to the next quest and this guy blocks your way and won't let you pass, how fucked are you?
Unless one of us is an Apostle or we fucked up a bunch of innocents lately, not particularly.
I guess we ask him why and depending on the answer, go a different way.
Well since we're good guys, not dead on the spot. But since he won't let us pass that probably means Mandatory Side Quest Time, and if that means anything that's even a fraction of his NORMAL quests...
Yeah, we're fucked.

We would attack the strange looking man with the big stick, and then immediately die.
And then I would question why Guts was in a setting that takes place during the early Pleistocene era.
How would you go about making a TTRPG version of XCOM? Or rather than building the system from the group up, what system would you refluff?
Im thinking I would either use D20 modern or Only War as my framework system, depending on player preference and refluff from there.
Things to consider:
>Troops Dying - Most players like to bring in new characters at party level when their previous character dies, this is distinctly not XCOM in flavour
My tentative solution is allowing plays to build up a character roster meaning they can choose to bring a "rookie" to the table rather than their main character. If it survives, they have a secondary character at squaddie rank within there roster that they can bring to the table for future sessions.
>Base Building - Pain in the ass or awesome chance for strategy and planning, depends on group
Not sure if there is a system suited to base building that could be ripped off. My personal approach would be to do this between sessions on a FB page or something allowing for debate and consensus before approving choices, however that won't necessarily work for all groups, just my group tends to say they like long form strategy and decisions to make, but when they play the moan until they get action.
>Time Passing- would you have it work in real time and update your players on what happened since your last session, or have a "fast forward" function at the table to facilitate multiple research/engineering projects and missions per game session?
Personally, I would opt for the real time setup and handle research and such on the aforementioned fb page, allowing me to focus my efforts on a larger, more involved and nuanced "main mission" for my players to deal with at the session.
But enough about my methods, what are your thoughts my fellow fa/tg/uys? Anything i have missed out? Anything you would add/change/forego in your version?

If you like the modern Xcom games, Strike! combat is modeled on them. Character creation is also fairly fast, so if you want tactical meatgrinders, it's rather good.
Not a lot of equipment management or base building in the main game though.
I did an XCOM oneshot using Savage Worlds. It worked pretty well, although the squad managed to butcher a buildingful of Sectoids and a trio of EXALT agents with no real casualties. Bonus points for the team heavy bulldozing a Sectoid into the ground, knocking it out and hauling its ass in for interrogation.
bump for XCOM
I have a really good idea for a setting for a campaign in a RPG. It is a cyberpunk world taking heavy inspiration from the roaring 20's
How can I make it work /tg/?
>>51509373
When you say "heavy inspiration", do you mean "I would like to masturbate to a drawing of a flapper girl with a cyberarm", or did you have a broader concept
>>51509373
I have a broader concept to it.

Like, just imagine the speakeasies though.

Is there any cards in you deck that you put in to reference something else or because you like the flavor? Or cards that you add to your deck simple because it fits with the lore of your Commander somehow? Maybe even because of nostalgia?
Also, Jojo guy! The one who posted here: >>51507888. Is there any song that puts Environmental Destruction in a positive light? Or portrays Nature destroying itself and it's NOT a negative thing? Would really help me out if you did...

I put volcanic dragon in all of my red decks and there's nothing you can do to stop me.
This is my favourite flavour for a card, just rubs me the right way.

Barring Game of Thrones, has there been any /tg/-approved fantasy on TV recently?
I watched two episodes of Shannara Chronicles because someone recommended it to me, but it's a real shitshow. It whacks you around the head with so much teen drama you wouldn't be able to get into the tired, derivative fantasy aspect of the show even if you tried.
That person is dead to me now.
>>51503606
My girlfriend got me to watch that show. She loves teen drama stuff for some reason. It starts to pick up a bit later on. The surprise is just as cliche as generic fantasy, but it's not a wholly Tolkienesque fantasy world. The teen drama tones down a bit too, I actually liked it quite a bit by the end of the season.
>>51503606
>Game of Thrones
>/tg/ approved
>>51503838
This is the part where I get to say that your opinions aren't those of /tg/, right?
Also fuck you because your waifu is shit, your edition sucks, and that you deserve every ring-stain on your table.
The BBEG has mastered the power of the Polymorph: Slut spell.
What happens in the campaign world next?
Wait, if the other spells are:
Polymorph Self
and
Polymorph Other
Does that mean that this new spell only works on sluts?

My old group had a tiefling street rat kid who was about eight or so who I paid for information and then eventually hired to be a hand around our mercenary office while acting as a bit of an informant. We left for a longer adventure, were kidnapped and put into a magitech version of the matrix for about a year, crashed a giant flying city, and returned to find that not only had the little fucker I placed in care of the operation grown the mercenary band a little, but he had also gotten into my avante-garde paintings.
I very nearly throttled him for the latter, but the former (and the massive bag of gold he left on my desk as a demonstration of how well things were going in our absence) convinced me not to break his horns off, stuff him in a dress, and sell him to the local lord as a "princess" as part of an elaborate plan to cede his throne.
Little fucker had his boots up on my tables, too. Charming.
So, fa/tg/uys, how exactly do we made the werewolves menacing and interesting again? Or are they relegated to secondary characters who exists only to fill the generic antagonist to vampires in your average teen show?
>>51491227
>how exactly do we made the werewolves menacing and interesting again?
we don't change them to appeal the furry/edgy teen targets.
>>51491532
>Not appealing to furries,
>Making them not appealing to degenerates who would fuck anything alive
So, it's a lost cause?
>werewolf fur is sharp and painful
>werewolves can summon more werewolves
>werewolves get maces for hands
>werewolf feet are slippery and propel them
>the werewolf is Jesus
any of these will do
I haven't seen one of these in a while so I guess I'll launch the discussion.
Talk about realistic setting and games such as song of swords or riddle of steel.
Although realistic settings can turn some people off due to how they remind us of how fragile humans are, there are always a plethora of fun options:
>PC's can become old timey mercenaries and eventually mercenary captains in the days of the Italian kingdom states
>Lesser born nobles can aspire to rise up the ranks and earn favors with their lords
>Knights can aspire to eventually one day become leaders of armors and win glory for the households
Also the aesthetic on real medieval arms and armor is often over looked and that's always a shame

In the meanwhile I'll post some illustrations

Let's brainstorm some cool original liches together. I was inspired to create this thread by two posts in another thread, describing how druids and bards would go about achieving lichdom:
>I now picture druid liches who put their own hearts into wild animals and can't be killed as long as these animals are alive. And the animal itself, swollen by necromantic energies, grows to be the largest and scariest beast in the wood and stops ageing.
>I was thinking more the bard writing themselves into a song/legend in some arcane ritual probably involving several public and private performances.
>As long as the song/story spreads and survives the bardic lich can reform either physically or as a living song/story possessing hosts and maybe having some ability like always active bardic music or something to do with their spells.
You can't deny these concepts are very cool. Let's try and create some more unconventional liches.
Paladin liches give a vow to protect a sacred temple as long as it stands. And voila, their souls are bound to the temple and they can neither die nor leave it.
Then, a thousand years later, a bunch of adventurers come across some ancient ruins that were abandoned centuries ago and suddenly a lich rises from under the rubble and SMITES them for desecrating the holy site.
>>51490413
I like the idea of an illithid Lich pickling himself since and focusing most of his psionic powers to enthrall a big bad monster to carry his jar around
>>51490510
Illithid liches are common

I have a player in werewolf who refuses to read the manual, so i decided to run the game from the first change as to explain the rules IC. I did but i still get the "retarded puppy look" from the player when she doesnt know what to do with something that she was just told how to do.
