Reddit generally attracts a younger userbase. Not that 4chan doesn't have its share of kiddos dodging age requirements, and I wouldn't be surprised to find that half of users are barely college-age, but Reddit seems to have a solid population of 16 year olds at its core, with less older members.

There's also the fact that some people on 4chan see Reddit as unable to make anything of their own - they have to find stuff, share it, and get acclaim for it. It's not like 4chan, where stuff is shared, but there's also a sense that you're supposed to discuss things, create new ideas, stuff like that. Sometimes this goes as far as fears that anyone on 4chan could be a redditor trying to stir up a quick meme to screencap and share, since there are whole boards devoted to 4chan shit. Usually this just means Reddit is echoing what's already been and gone on 4chan, and you know how people react to shit they've already heard after it stopped being funny.

In essence, Reddit is the annoying younger brother who is embarrassing and rather creepily idolizing his elder, who wants nothing to do with him and would rather pretend that no one is poking through his hand-me-downs like they were royal treasures.

Ok, so... here's the real issues with Reddit.

1. They're more Progressive than us.

2. They're a homogenized community. 4chan: Bastion of Free Speech and all that hates any community where ideas are too constrained to a single mindset. The voting system and extreme moderation only serves to reinforce this.

3. They're not us. If they were us, they wouldn't be them, and we're us, so we must be right, and they must be wrong. Tribal mindset.

4. Lastly, Reddit Immigrants are easily offended. Reddit is where most of our summer kids come from, and they're simply not used to Bait and shitposting, with their active mods and compartmentalized subreddits. We have to beat the reddit out of our newfags in hopes that we can finally get a community that can manage to ignore bait threads. It's become such a problem that quite a sizable portion of /tg/ is susceptible to simple bait. The stuff in this thread is relatively clever by comparison to what's more commonly posted.

Reddit is (for me) both interesting and cringeworthy at the same time. Anon is right, they are not really creatives, some are as individuals but as a community I they don't build anything collectively.

TG (and perhaps 4chan in general) is I think a better place, it's more creative but also far more brutal, but it's brutality gives is a curious and remarkable strength.

I don't think 4chan or Reddit are more or less progressive than each other. 4chan has /d/ whose maxim is 'any hole or pole's a goal' and reddit has 'the_donald' which is makes for far more depressing reading that /pol/. First time playing DND, spent hours building a -setting- for my DM, and my character, ready to take it very seriously, and I end up playing an evil run with the cast of Always Sunny, a chaotic stupid cannibal named Slush and his friend Nickolodean. Of the 8 players only 3 of them have characters that are developed beyond "psychopathic narcissist", being played by someone that doesn't care.
I really want to play DND but it feels almost impossible when everyone I encounter doesn't get it.

I made a setting in collaboration with the DM.

I just joined the campaign last night, not knowing what I was in for. It's been running for a while. Since then I've told the DM that he should kick out about half the group.

Yeah, he did tell me about them. He's complained about them. He said he is trying to make them take it more seriously, and has made progress since they started. My solution is to kick them out if they don't. Particularly the guy who only shows up every 5 sessions, and when he does, he only tries to kill and eat everyone he sees.

You didn't mention what the DM told you before you joined, I could not know your actions were reasonable even if they are still in line with That Guy behavior. You are the new guy, they already had an established order of things and that was chaos. So I suggest you ask the DM to get everyone but Cannibal Johnson together, so that you can all discuss what you want out of the game, and tell the others whats wrong with their behavior in a reasonable manner. If they keep pulling stupid shit, kick them, 4 players seems large enough of a party to play.
