Who's played this game? I have a friend who loves it even though he's burnt out on M:tG. I've played a few rounds myself, but only the "preconstructed" format where you grab 30 cards of one color and use them as a deck.

Anybody able to share their experiences?

I love Epic Card Game.

It does exactly what it says on the box. A condensed, simplified but still highly enjoyable emulation of the MtG experience, accelerated to focus on the big moments.

It is nowhere as deep as MtG. The lack of any resource scaling and incredibly swingy nature of it makes it a bad competitive game and I'm sure there are super OP decks that just trounce anything else.

But I was always a casual Magic player. When the people in the LGS were doing drafts or tournaments, I was with the group sitting on comfortable seats off to the side playing silly multiplayer formats like Emperor or Pentagram.

Epic gives me that same experience of casual MtG with significantly less investment of time or money.
>>
>>51524783
I'll admit, even in the preconstructed format, games get very swingy. Red/Evil in particular has a lot of board-clearing cards, and when I played that faction I was constantly spoiling my opponents' build-ups of creatures.

>It does exactly what it says on the box
I love the game, but I hate the name because of how generic it is and how awkward it is to say things like, "Oh, I played Epic earlier" to people.
>>
>>51524943

I don't know, I can see it both ways on the name. It is super generic but it's also very evocative of what the game is and does.

They're actually kickstarting a digital version at the moment, although I'm not so sure about it. I enjoy the game most as a social, casual experience so the online format doesn't exactly seem the best fit.

What is one of the biggest fuck-ups your character has ever done?

Should fighters always have the best to-hit of the classes?

Cause in 5e they sure fucking don't
82 posts and 10 images submitted.
>>
>>51523853

Depends on what you want the class to be.
A "fighter" doesn't have to be entirely offensive in his abilities.
>>
>>51523853
5E fighters are the best melee class in the system.
The fuck are you talking about?
>>
>>51523947
Everyone in 5e has the same to-hit generally. Fighters do have more attacks though, and I think that works out better

What's some of the more memorable combat encounters you've had?

I'm planning out the lair of a young adult green dragon at the moment and was just thinking about how to make it a memorable and dangerous fight and got curious about other people's experiences.

Some of mine include

>a fight in the darklake with 3 merrow.

the party was level 4 at the time and the merrow were encountered in a narrow channel. they swam l in circles at dash speed to create a whirlpool to drag in the party's boat. They would take turns popping out to throw their roped harpoons at the party and try to reel them into the water and drown them.

>monster tamer

we once fought a guy who was a cultist of elemental evil who had a penchant for taming monsters. in particular to this fight was a roper and an umber hulk, as well as several other cultists. we managed to take him out but our bard used phantasmal force to trick the roper into thinking he was okay and ordering it to attack the cultists.

>shadow Dragon mutant hatchling

the party went into a cave infused with faerzress in the underdark. They find a red Dragon egg but due to reasons were forcible teleported out of the place and didn't come back for quite some time. when they were asked to retrieve the egg again, the found it had hatched. the dungeon was largely abandoned at this point and I described the trail this creature left behind as they tracked it. it was like they were hunting a xenomorph or something. in the end they find it has laired up on top of a small mesa, which is now shrouded in shadows. was a pretty fun fight.

pic semi related. another encounter I'd like to have sometime

Actually hit players when they get hit to force them to take combat seriously.

Probably one of my most memorable encounters I ran was against one simple Warg.

I was playing a low magic fantasy, campaign with friends, who were part of a mercenary company fighting through war torn lands against goblins. After days of fighting and being tired, they were relocated to a quiet relief station with a detachment of men in a Graveyard that was a strategic outpost between the major town and their abandoned village HQ.

I basically had the "undescribed creature" start slowly killing their men, dragging them off, showing a hint of cognition with how it toyed with them. They freaked out and started planting traps, getting closer to it day after day, but they were quickly losing men. I had them badly injure it with a trap, but it escaped and they tracked it right back to under their own noses, the Gravekeeper's own house on the premises that they never checked out. They laid in wait during the day for it to return at night, and ambushed it, It dismembered a player and threw him through a window, but was stabbed to death by the rest of the party.

So, a monster comes to your town. Not a dragon or a lich or an ice giant, "just" this big hulking goblinoid. The one guard who tries to stop him from strolling down Main Street gets backhanded with enough force to snap his neck, and the brute ignores all the other guards. After killing that guard, all he does is settle down in an alley and seem to sleep. But he always wakes up and shoots anyone who gets in arm's reach a dirty look, like he's daring them to do something.

Everyone's afraid to get him angry. Even the town guard, all dozen of them (or at least they were a dozen strong until poor Mich got swatted like a fly) doesn't think they can do anything against him with their rusty shortswords.

He just sits there all day, so you try to go about your business, even though you can't help but think he's watching. And as soon as it gets dark, everyone retreats to their homes, shutters drawn and doors bolted. And that's when you hear him start moving again. All night, when you're trying to sleep, his heavy feet stomp past the locals' houses. Some will attest in the morning that he was testing the locks on their doors and windows.

Everyone's afraid to leave their houses come morning. But the monster is back in his little alley, sleeping, or pretending to sleep. The whole thing repeats. You're nervous all day because he might suddenly leap to activity, and at night you're terrified because of his stalking around the town and scrabbling at people's homes.

He's constantly menacing. He's hardly done anything--yet. You've no idea what will happen if someone's door proves not secure, or if someone tries to leave the village either during the day or night.

Wat do?

A while back I tried to write a story about a very large snake/dragon moving into a town, slithering everywhere, and the townsfolk not being able to find its head or tale, even though it's big scaly body trails all around the hamlet. I think I'd just read Canterbury tales.

Approach just to the point that he opens his eyes, and ask him what he wants in whatever languages I know.

The pattern of behavior doesn't follow any normal creature, so magic is implied, but there's no forward progress until you figure out the motivation.

So I rolled up a Tiefling and one of the traits I ended up rolling was hermaphroditic, ignoring kink jokes for a moment (the group is pretty comfy just making fun of eachother on that side) I am trying to work out a psychology, Men and Women think differently due to a mixture of physiological and and chemical differences in the body, ergo how would these blend in the psychology of a hermaphrodite?

What is that? Ryuuven? Rako?

What are some unusual superpowers? Stuff beyond the usual flight/super strength/shoot rays of x, etc. Pic unrelated, btw
I'll start

>Human botnet
You're as strong/smart/etc as everyone around you, but only if they're not using that trait right now, i.e., you're a powerhouse in a room full of sleeping strongmen, but dumb as hell in a japanese classroom at exam time

>Beeline
You can touch two things, and then cause one to 'fall' towards the other by altering the subjective gravity of the first to have down be towards the second, wherever it may be.

>Hobbit's Lament
You can cause an object/person/etc to become incredibly, overwhelmingly desirable to anyone viewing it, with the effect growing stronger the longer it's near a person. Can only have one at a time

>Rope Tricks
You have a form of tactile telekinesis, and treat anything in contact with your body as an extension of it, having complete control over it's movements. While this can make normally immobile things move under their own power, it doesn't make things more flexible.

Talk about that one guy that ruined everything. Maybe he’s a dice fudger, constantly murder hobos his way through your game, makes the only girl at the table feel uncomfortable. You get the idea.

Mine was a 300lb gorilla who was mentally handicapped. He overheard us talking about setting up a campaign I was getting started; my first “serious” game I was going to run; didn’t really want him in the game, but he had no friends and I felt bad for the guy. Found out why he didn’t have any friends real quick. I tell everyone to roll characters from the main pathfinder book, and throws a bitch fit about wanting to play a gunslinger. Fine, what ever. First scene, he hides in the bushes and waits for the group to show up in the gypsy camp I made; then proceeds to attack the players because “I’m a half-orc!”. He rolls poorly, gets his ass beat, and we move the story along. He apparently had all sorts of expensive shit that I’m pretty damn sure I didn’t ok, like explosive dragon fire rounds. I tell him that he can have 5, and they are EXTREEMLY hard to find (aka He’s never going to find them in my game). Fires two at some low level skeleton, and the rest in fights with the other players. During this last pvp, he says to me “I have two more shots with the Dragonfire rounds”, I count him using two rounds. Next round he says, “No I have two more, ON TOP THESE THREE OTHER ROUNDS.” And at this point, the game is no fun to be in anymore, and I tell him that we’ve canceled the game for finals or some other bs reason. Moral of the story, this DM learned to check sheets and to have a backbone on enforcing rules. Me being non confrontational, hurt the game and made everyone have less fun then if I had just said “Dude, you need to leave”.

Like 3-4 out of several billions humans are those strongest. It's not semantics to say they're not especially strong when 99.999% or whatever of all humans do not portray anywhere near that power.

Krillin settled down eventually, why would he need to continue training more then necessary? I don't think Piccolo peaked so much as his fight opponents were rising in power way faster then he was training and he doesn't seem to fight much past a certain point either.

>>51535710
Yes, I'm aware. When did I deny that? My point is that humans aren't notably stronger or innately advantaged. There's certainly strong humans but the race as a whole is not innately the most powerful one in the universe or close to it. There's also the fact that Olibu is anime only and thus not really canon which detracts quite a bit.

>>51535711
Indeed and if they then put in the training, they can get strong too. Humans are just not innately advantaged over other races in regards to ki stuff.

>>51535726
When I checked, it seemed like they could train. 18 at least seems capable of growing stronger. I imagine that 17 is going to be shown to have done the same in the upcoming Super arc, if he's going to do anything but just die instantly.

>>51535728

We've had literally hundreds of DBZ quests.
most die early from lack of interest and hack writing, but DBZ Human Quest went pretty far.
I didn't read the whole thing, but it was kind of interesting and not awful. Olibu made appearances and his existence was kind of the excuse for humans to be relevant.
