Hey /tg/!
I'm running a campaign that takes place within 14 different elemental kingdoms. Each kingdom has people that are part elemental, looking a bit like their element and able to control it to some degree, similar to Avatar but a little bit less human.
I'm trying to find good ideas for tropes for each of the kingdoms to have, without being cliche. The last thing I want to do is make the Shadow Kingdom a bunch of grimdark assassins or make the Wind Kingdom a rip-off of the air nomads.
Here is a list of the elemental kingdoms. If anyone has any ideas to share, feel free!

Do you have some special reason to focus on the "14" part, OP? Some mithology you're ripping off of or some grand quest involving exactly 14 shards of whatever and such? Because at first glance that's a big turn-off for any outsider(ha!) looking in.

Many of your so-called elements are just plain dumb, namely Mist, Lava, Crystal, Dust, and Water/Ice being separated. Each of those is too shallow to be an actual theme for a realm, and some of them are a straight-out downgrade of Earth, an already existing one. Try to sum up them in about 6 or 8 elements and give the people in each country the possibility specialize in the excluded ones as subschools in addition to the base land element.

Have you ever played/GMed a game were one or more PCs agreed with BBEG after he stated his reasoning for his acts?

Not directly but I have had players sympathise with those beneath the BBEG and fully understand *why* those people would follow him willingly. My campaign currently resolves around a kobold necromancer bringing together the scattered clans of kobolds, who are a severely oppressed and prejudiced race despite being the natives of the area the games take place in. He's trying to forge them a nation of their own but is doing it in a very openly evil manner. Most of the PC's sympathise with the plight of the kobolds, but know the BBEG has to be stopped for the kobolds to have a *real* chance of making a new home for themselves peacefully. The PC's are trying to be the super good guys, bring down the BBEG, stop their army from hurting kobold civilians and set up a new life for the kobolds after the war.

Let's talk about Tyranids, and how to fix their crappy dex.

Last year, I had the opportunity to talk with Andy Chambers about Tyranids, and according to him, they were intended to be the most flexible army in the game. I think that we can all agree, that they haven't been that in a long time.

The nid codex has tons of problems, the most glaring ones being the following in my opinion.
>lack of speed
Ties to the above. The tyranids are a melee army that can't reasonably get into melee, because they are generally not very fast, and the fast units they have are ones that depend on the synapse bugs, which are for the most part, slow, thus making the speed of the faster units irrelevant.

>instinctive behavior
This ties to the above point, because again, you cannot utilize the speed of faster units, because doing so will take you outside of the synapse range, which will result in your fast bugs killing themselves.

>Warriors are worthless.
Warriors are clearly intended to be the backbone of your swarms, forming a web of synapse coverage that will allow you to keep your swarm under control. Unfortunately, they are a waste of points, because they are too fragile for their cost and too slow to keep up with the gaunts they are supposed to support.

>The lack of biomorphs.
The removal of the majority of the biomorphs the nids used to have has greatly weakened the army as a whole. Carnifexes were especially crippled by this.

>lack of reliable AA
The only dedicated source of anti air the nids posses are hive crones, that only have 4 one use only "missiles" and if they don't make those count, the whole bug is a waste of points.

The ways I'd fix the above problems are the following:

>lack of speed
Simply making most tyranid "infantry" into beasts ruleswise, would fix their speed problems imedeately. Especially that of the warriors.
Also, to help them to get into melee, perhaps tyranids should be able to make some sort of "disorganized" assaults from deep strikes?

>instinctive behavior
Remove the stuff about the nids eating each other if they fail the instinctive behavior test, and it's already way less crippling to them.

>Warriors
Make them Toughness 5, W 2 Sv +4 would make them instantly more resilient and thus less likely to being insta killed before they can do anything. Also, by changing them to beasts, they could reasonably keep up with the gaunts they are supposed to reign over.

>Lack of biomorphs
Easy, bring them back. Most of the units still have them in their sprues. You just need to give them rules again.

>lack of AA.
Another easy fix. Give Hive Guards Skyfire. They shoot at things based on what the swarm sees, not their own eyes. It makes no sense lorewise for them to be unable to shoot at flying things just as well as they shoot at things that are on the ground.

These changes would imo, make the Tyranids an army that can actually stand a change again, without being reliant solely on the retarded flyrant circus.

One possibility: This character WAS like that, until they got their ass handed to them after diving into a fight where they were severely outnumbered and got the hint that they're not invincible.
Once someone who's practically invulnerable is taken from the brink of death and back, they begin to appreciate how the little people without such powers have to deal with things not going their way. Bonus points if the injury is serious and takes months if not years to recover from.
Assuming this character decides to grow a pair and reflect on their assholishness rather than sperg out, they come to respect

>Other superheroes
>Non-powered 'everyday' heroes like firefighters
They get to reflect on, say, a villain's speech as to how selfish the hero is, or their injury causes people to speak honestly about the hero, now that he/she's off the pedestal.
If they have friends or relatives, these people will tell the hero that they don't need to fight alone or act super-tough to put on a show, and that their value doesn't come from just being a badass, but from being a good person.

So is anyone GMing a Cyberpunk setting at the moment, or even just have general ideas for making something true to the genre while still staying somewhat fresh? I've been slowly building a world for a C2020 campaign I am running and am looking for inspiration. To start

In my game we have a U.N that attempted to unify the world in order to make quick and decisive socio-politico change in a time of crises. The idea was to solve environmental issues, overpopulation, and resource depletion by forcing allot of humanity out into mining colonies in space. Due to some major failings in implementing their plans many new political powers arose by people rejection the U.N's legitimacy. It got increasingly difficult to fund all the new conflicts that the U.N was facing while also attempting to institute their radical policies, so just about everything not to do directly with warfare or relocation got more and more privatized, and continues to do so.This led to corporations gaining massive power and legitimacy.

In the game world the corporations and the U.N are allies and are working cooperatively on the surface, while also trying to keep each other in check and subvert each other behind the scenes. The PCs are lowlifes who find themselves getting drawn into conspiracies at a level way beyond them, and have to navigate between these two sources of power to try to stay alive. Of course there are also lots of gangs, mysterious organizations, etc, who are relevant. I wanted the world to feel pluralistic and somewhat fractured while still maintaining some degree of totalitarianism from international governments and mega-corporations.

The idea was that it could solve overpopulation by leaving those sent off to the mining colonies there and having those mining colonies develop into new settlements. The population reduction would cause a lessened strain on the environment from human activity, and the mined resources would be getting transferred to earth at an exploitative rate.

To get to world unification the U.N already fought many wars - and won them all. They then went fully totalitarian in order to quickly push their agenda with as little resistance as possible. This version of the UN would have to be one that found a means to dissolve national borders through force, propaganda, and tight managerial programs over those already under their power, so to maintain their legitimacy and keep their citizens "thinking correctly". But they screwed up when millions died on some of the first voyages out to relocate people to the new colonies. That was'nt something that they were able to cover up, and the rise of a new independent media, several former nation states and ethnic groups uniting and rejecting the U.N, and etc, caused them to lose legitimacy and their order to fracture.

As you implied, in this world the UN constantly losing legitimacy and finding more resistance due to their attempts at strong arming those who resist them into submission. Their methods worked until the relocation disasters, but they have not been able to adapt to their new situation very well. Corporations are doing what they can to take advantage of this so to try to become the new dominant powers.

Sup dudes. I need help coming up with unconventional/unusual weapon enchantments.

So far I've spitballed a sword of screaming (whomever is damaged by the blade screams in proportion to the wound). Also halfbaked a shield of reflection. If one makes eye contact with the mirrorlike shield, they must pass a check or reflect on their next action.

Crossbow of Fire Ball. No matter what you load it with, it fires a random ball with the same ballistic properties as a normal arrow.
Yes, including firing a bowling ball at the same speed, with the same relative lack of air resistance.
On the other hand, it could be a ping-pong ball instead.
Save this for a weird campaign of course.
