How can Hubble's Law hold without the universe having a center?
>>8626740
because one day the lights just flicked on
Every time the hubble sphere expands (and it does so at a rate of one light-second per second) you get to watch the first flicker of light from a region of the universe
>>8626740
Hubble's law is fine, but people misrepresent it. It's erroneous in general relativity to talk about center or the relation between velocities of distant objects--in reality, it's nonsense. It's only meaningful locally. Note that in GR, do to something wonderful called the equivalent principle, we can always find a locally free-falling frame (that essentially doesn't know about gravity). This technical detail ends up being very important, as it uniquely defines a reference center for points in the surrounding neighborhood to transport from.
imagine the universe is the 3D equivalent of the surface of a balloon. The center of mass of the balloon is the center of the universe.
Is it possible to transfer your consciousness into a digital form, for a robot body?
And don't play stupid with questions like
>define consciousness
You faggots know what I mean.
If we don't even know how consciousness actually emerges, than no, we can't. Not at this moment at least.
If it's somehow transferrable from the biotic to the abiotic, than yes, we can. But first we need to know how it actually works. So stop getting too ahead of yourself and aid the world in better understanding the thing you're asking about.
>>8626338
We don't know.
We assume that what makes up your consciousness is the way data is stored in your brain and the connections between that data. If it were possible to map the entirety of your neural connections, and turn that map into a set of information, that information could be transferred into whatever. Then we would need to decode that information in some way, hopefully the same way your brain does, and see what happens.
>>8626338
Not because we don't know what are the building blocks that sustain what we call conscience, much less if its compatible with what otherthanour brains apparently.
Not so much about defining consciouaness and more about what hold's it together
When will scientists finally find out what exactly causes headaches?
>>8625559
We know to an extent of the brain's unsuccessfulness to keep itself in order. Headaches can be caused by all sorts of means. Primary headaches are caused by dysfunction or overactivity in pain-sensitive structures in the head. The most common form of primary headache is the tension-type headache. The muscles contracting to much(stress). But there are thousands of ways a brain can make itself hurt. It is because of how imperfect the brain is in certain areas. Sorry to say but we ain't perfect.
>>8625559
> When will scientists finally find out what exactly causes headaches?
most headaches are caused by a dilation of a blood vessel, causing an increase in blood pressure through that vessel, which causes pain.
Asprin works as a blood thinner, reducing pressure.
Ibuprophin(I think) works as an antiinflamatory, reducing the dilation, and thus reducing pressure.
>>8625559
Stress on the body, usuallly by sitting or leaning in an uncomfortable position, causes lots of needless aches and pains.
Note that if you rely on legal drugs for relief your body will fail to learn to relieve pain on its own, to heal. I quit taking headache pills and I have a headache now maybe once a year. I stopped taking cold meds and I barely notice I have colds their because their symptoms are so mild.
Drugs harm our bodies. They make us dependent on drug pushing CEOs who will kill us for money: who will blindly and mindlessly poison us for profit. All ceo's are whores who steal from children; like forcing them off their land using legal whores to do their dirty deeds.
Can you be Chad AND good at maths at the same time?
>>8625381
No you mongoloid
Yes, but you need hell of a determination.
>>8625381
Yes, maths can be learned, actually anything mechanical can be learned by anyone. There is no reason to think that you need to be smart in order to finish any scientific course.
Most people in my class are dumb as fuck but they spend tons of time with their heads in books just learning to repeat stuff from them or by learning the logic/mechanism behind similar problems presented in tests.
> I thought I'd graduate at engineering
> Turns out I'm going at medicine
Well I feel a little sad that I won't be studying any physics no more. So I come to thee, /sci/, to help me understand a concept that never got around my head:
> Entropy
What the fuck is entropy and why it is always increasing? The Wikipedia article makes no sense at all. "disorder is more likely than order" yes yes, very good, but how the hell the universe cooling down is "disorder"? Shouldn't a higher energy state be more chaotic than a cold one? How exactly a cube of ice melting into water increasing entropy? It makes no sense at all... Why in a closed system it always increase? And how exactly that stops a perfect thermal machine from existing?

>>8625299
Oh look, i got dubs
>>8625281
here is a fantastic answer
http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/131170/what-is-entropy-really
but truthfully having an in depth understanding of entropy requires being fluent in the language of math and physics. not trying to be a higher than thou asshat but at a certain point it is like trying to come up with a translation for a word in Japanese that simply does not exist in English. only the original descriptive language will fully express the meaning.
As an incredibly loose and potentially cringeworthy analogy think of it like this. You can never get out more than you put in. Say i crank a wheel and 100% of that energy goes to the motion of my car. The entropy stays the same. If there is friction, wind resistance, bad fit on the gears, etcc then the amount of energy in terms of forward motion will be less than that of the energy i put in. so where did it go? friction for one, and other inefficiencies. energy which aids the car moving forward is relatively ordered as it all serves the same purpose. the heat lost to friction is disordered as it aids at no specific purpose. thus an isolated system will always increase in entropy or stay the same (be careful this is absolutely a part of it)

Is Accutane safe? Assuming I don't have the severe side effects and only the "mild" ones. I'm afraid of losing my vision at all
It is safe. My brother got clean face after few months of use.
it works but side effects vary
i just got really dry lips during my cycle on it, none of the suicidal tendencies thankfully
>>8624952
What I'm thinking is that if it causes dry lips and all these other somewhat mild symptoms, you are still causing permanent damage, its just not as noticeable. This could even damage your brain since it seems to effect your whole body and can cause mental problems. Its hard to notice slight mental changes.
These drug was originally used in chemotherapy. Not sure what for though but maybe because it can kill you lol
>professor fag
>hate textbooks
>textbook for lectures never required
>lab manuals required because of protocols
>use older, cheaper editions of lab manuals
>have pdf of older editions too
>last semester, left pdf on desktop of lab computer
>encouraged students to copy it to their flashdrives
>Students, “What’s a flashdrive?”
I guess I should host this for them. My questions to you are:
1. Are you OK with using an electronic version of a lab manual?
2. Do any of your teachers offer pirated textbooks to their students?
3. The pdf is too big for my normal host (google drive) Suggestions for free sites that could host the file that aren’t sketchy would be helpful
This thread can also be a textbook hate general too. I have a longstanding feud with the textbook mafia.
Both of my math instructors this semester handed out .pdf versions of the textbook freely. One of them even got me 2 pdf books for my other class and does this for any of his students.
>>8624753
let the kids who can't figure out how to copy a file to a portable usb drive fail because they're really not that smart anyways?

Is this real?
Recommend me a good book on combinatorics. I have studied aerospace engineering if that helps.

Are all biomedical (biochemistry, cell biology, cancer biology, etc.) PhDs just failed MDs?
>>8624233
Only those who applied to med school but weren't accepted.
>>8624233
Not at all. I imagine most of them are interested in medicine as a field, but not in practicing it. They may be more motivated towards in depth research in specific scientific fields. Medicine has an emphasis on applying scientific advancements to make people healthier and happier.
Besides, failed MDs and DOs would be much better off pursuing a PA (in the US).

No. I just install equipment.
Please tell me there is some hidden kink to this trend of automation. Like if one of the necessary computer components were rarer than first believed or if there's a hard limit on robotic capabilities. something that could stop automation or even reverse it.
My body isn't ready for a completely automated economy. I want to have a job. I can't function without work.
Already I can never go live a simple life as a humble farmer since its all tech work and I could never compete with automated farms.
>>8622532
Your new job is learning skills and philosophy, along with experiencing the world and teaching others if total automaton occurs.
Think what you could do with unlimited time and a steady source of income. *If* this happens remember you are at least still free to choose your path in life.
You can still work, you just have to accept your work is useless, unlike now when you work and are deluded enough to think your work has value
>Only thing that can happen after death is life once more
>An eternity in one constant state may not be so
>Extreme quantum physics beyond our comprehension might give us a re-roll or a repeat
>A form of re-incarnation may be real
Is there any scientific backing for this idea?
hope i roll better stats next time
>>8622356
Compounding all of this,
>The descendants of human beings may not even be human anymore
>They may decide to resurrect every human being that has ever lived
>Their capabilities would likely reach that of gods so they could do it.
I see so many possibilities where there is life after death in the universe we live in.
Nietzsche had this idea.
I don't want to come back here. What if I come back as a roach or a rat that gets trapped in a mousetrap and dies a slow, agonizing death for many hours, only to come back to live through something even more horrific?

correct me if i'm wrong...
But there's something strange in the sky.
I saw a strange light, at the north...
I couldn't take a photo because the clouds covered it.
Every day I see this weird giant light go from east to west, and I have no fucking idea what it is. I must be insane or something because whenever I ask people what it is, they just give me disgusted stares.
