calc and fizzix go hand in hand you should be fine

Just make sure that you know the shortcuts used to find derivatives and anti derivatives are based on notation and not algebra.

The statement will make sense once you learn things like the chain rule

If gravity acts at the speed of light and not instantaneously why don't planets simply drift away from each other since they are never being pulled "directly" toward one another?

Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

>>
Why?
>>
>If light only propagates at the speed of light then why aren't all the planets dark because they are never being shined on "directly"?
>>
>>8625448
Planets are pulled - continuously - toward their sun, and thus orbit that sun. Orbital perturbations arise from attraction between planets.
What question/issue are you asking about?

Why can't we just dig a big ass hole in the ground and generate power from the heat of the earth?

Why is that not viable?

digging a deep enough hole is too difficult

Because the entire Earth would cave in.

To ensure optimal descendants, before intercourse should you rather
>(1) no fap for a week or so so you maximize the number of seeds (but include old ones)?
>(2) gap few hours before and only plant fresh seeds to (but minimize the number of candidates to sprout)?

This is real fucking retarded, you constantly created new sperm and what you have right now is destroyed at the end of the day. Kill yourself.
>>
>>8628639
It depends on how often you have sex. If this is your only chance for a while, you want to save up your seed and improve your odds of having a kid in the first place. If you have plenty of opportunities, it's best to flush out the old sperm, preventing their fucked-up mutated DNA from cucking your progeny.

I didn't know this. So it is good to ejaculate constantly as to not waste any sperm.

Are there any truly intellectually challenging jobs? Don't most jobs just end up being mostly about grinding out tedious work, with only occasional and brief periods of challenge?
19 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
>>8628276
If you do well as a lawyer there are quite challenging cases that come up every now and then. It might not be a scientific job but its quite challenging intellectually.

As for any science jobs and I have no idea and I'd like to know.
>>
>>8628276
I just realized that some mod might want to ban me for this. My implication is that science work, despite being known as "intellectually challenging", is probably just as boring as every other job, realistically. I understand if you still have to ban me, though.
>>
>>8628279
The fear I have though is that the majority of lawyers spend the majority of their time just grinding out routine civil cases. Just like the majority of game devs spend the majority of their time filling out the environment, or the majority of researchers spend the majority of their time reorganizing spreadsheets.

Guys, this is urgent.

My grandmother died this morning, she have a serious water redemption as well.

However, in her coffin, only the window at the face area isnt covered in water vapour.

Not bwing paranormal, but scientifically, is she still alive? Why would the water vapour not cover the face area in the window?

>>
>>8628149
She was also claomed to be death by pneunomia, so breathing will be reallly difficult for her, and not obvious either. But i need an explaination as to why water vapoir is only appearing at the window panel around her face area, while the face area is clear

>>8628156

Anyone else have blue collar parents who don't quite understand what you do?

>go to school for CompE
>"Oh your old friend works at 'x' call center and makes $19/hour! Why would you go to college for that?"

>"so what classes are you taking?"

>"uhh.. operating systems, differential geometry, data structures and an assembly elective"

>"is that kind of stuff even useful? you should've gone into a trade"

How do you convince these people that STEM isn't a waste of time/you'll be making good money once you graduate? Frustrating at times.

Oh also, OP here but I forgot a smidge

>be doing undergrad mini research with old professor of mine

>we're asymptotically analyzing and trying to rework notoriously poor algorithms (bubble sort, etc)

>find some cool shit and new applications in meteorology in which bubble sort is actually useful

>write the whole deal up with lots of maths and cool shit in a pdf

>get it pushed for publishing, still waiting from our uni's (((money handlers))) if it's worthwhile or not

>call my parents in glee because it's a big deal to me
>they don't understand the utility or significance of getting something published
>treat it like something a little kid can do because of the stigma surrounding college campuses (cry babies, etc), so they dismiss any major successes i have

>>8628077

Can any /sci/entists confirm or deny that Autism is primarily genetic?
13 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
I'm a grad student in genetics, and most of the "evidence" is more aligned with environmental factors and has been for a loooong time when it comes to autism.

There are links in certain situations that occur to mother while pregnant, abnormalities in utero, toxins and metal exposures, many possibilities but no link to an actual gene that causes autism.

tl;dr no, but for the sake of science you could gather 10,000 autistic men and women, mate them, and create a pedigree of autism and check it's occurrence in their progeny
>>
>>8628020
If you're still here also answer this:

What actually is Autism, aside from just a collection of symptoms where does it originate and what does it affect?
>>
>>8628020
Ah, good old eugenics. What fun could be had, were it not for that ethics thing.

The ARS is claiming there is no gag order, but this is the internal memo which leaked to the press:

" “Starting immediately and until further notice, ARS will not release any public-facing documents. This includes, but is not limited to, news releases, photos, fact sheets, news feeds, and social media content"
