Future Naruto Quest

This quest is set within the universe of Naruto, long after the end of the series, but ignoring the events of the Boruto Manga. Of course, because this is Naruto we're talking about, the geopolitics and technology haven't advanced as quickly as they would in the real world. As such, the technology is similar to that of Boruto the Movie, and the villages you know and love are largely the same.

However, the characters will be less familiar, because as much time has passed between the Last and now as passed between the Founding of the Hidden Villages and the Main Series.

You are playing as Baratsuchi, currently a Hidden Stone Chunin of thirteen. However, throughout this gaiden, you will be influencing her actions throughout her life, from age three to just before the most recent Chunin Exams. While your influence will not be great, you will be able to determine some of the specifics of her story. Which is still more influential than choices in a telltale game.

Last Quest, Kuro went on a vital mission, and Baratsuchi began her story.

"As I said, my relationship with my father is at best, strained." Baratsuchi continues, "It really all started around the time my mother died."

You are Baratsuchi, you are also three years old. You are the bright-eyed young heiress of the Kanameishi Organization. Well, you were the sole heiress until your brother Oritzenbi was born a few months ago. You thought that people were supposed to be happy when a baby was born into their family; you certainly were. Despite this, you haven't seen much of your mother since your brother was born, she's spent a lot of time in bed, and your father has been rather cold.

Today, the doctors are visiting your mother again. You like when this happens, because it means that your mother is getting better. There are even ninja doctors today, they're the best doctors because they can make people better with their chakras. You're in the gardens right now, under the supervision of your nanny and a few of your family's maids.

>A) Try to sneak away and see what the doctors and your mother are doing

>B) Ask to go see your brother

>C) Try to sneak away to your father's office

>D) Keep playing here

>Check in with Rex

You find Rex in the living room, reading the latest issue of Guns and Ammo and drinking a beer.

"Rex, how exactly would we make this run look like an Ares-backed operation?"

"Well, I'm pretty sure Ares Entertainment isn't a fan of Cross trying to get back into the trideo biz, so, in theory, they'd hire runners to hold up or ruin the film's production. Destroying footage or equipment, injuring actors, etc.

Now, in THEORY, if this was Ares working in-house, they'd be using modern military tactics. Either that, or they'd send in Knights-Errant, but I don't think Ares would want their boys looking that dirty right now."

>What do you mean, 'don't want them looking that dirty right now'?
>Could you get us gear that would make us look like Ares?

Welcome to Shadowrun Occultist Quest!

>What is Shadowrun?

Shadowrun is an RPG series set in the world of 2072, 60 years after "The Awakening", the return of magic, spirits, and fantasy races into the world. Metahumanity now lives in a world of advanced technology and magic, where megacorporations are above the laws of nations and one-third of all humanity have no legal rights. Crime and corruption run amok, and mercenary operatives known as "shadowrunners" ply their services to both the criminal underworld, and to the very corporations that officially fight against them.

>How are success and failure determined?

A number of d6's are rolled equal to the relevant attribute+the relevant skill. 5's and 6's are successes, and the dice are rolled against a target threshold (1 for something trivial; 6 for a highly difficult /intricate task. 10 for something next-to-impossible). Each 6 rolled results in one additional die being rolled in the pool. Results are as follows:

Target number of successes is met: the action is a success.

Target number of successes is not met: the action is a failure.

Target number of successes is met, but more 1's are rolled than any other number in the pool: a "glitch" occurs: a minor outside complication arises that prevents success.

Target number of successes is not met and more 1's are rolled than any other number: critical glitch. Your actions fail in a way that is potentially disastrous for your long-term goals or your health.

You will have 2 points of Edge each "session" that you can spend to tip the scales in your favor. When requesting an action, you may specify that you want to spend a point of Edge to add "luck" or "effort" to a roll. "Luck" will add five dice to the roll's pool (great for situations where Redd is forced to work out of his depth). "Effort" will re-roll all failed dice on a roll if it does not meet the threshold, glitches, or critically glitches (the point will be refunded if none of these happen). This is good when you are playing to Redd's strengths, but want to make sure you don't botch something.

Good luck, and remember the fundamentals of shadowrunning:

>Shoot straight!

>Conserve ammo!

>Never make a deal with a dragon!

You thank the driver – a young man with freckles and a nervous twitch behind the wheel – as you get off the buggy.

The place was a lot more bustling compared to how it had been when you’d left… only, not the kind of bustling that you were so sure you were keen with – you didn’t remember signing off forms for the maintenance crew to do work here… and you hadn’t been told of the army chipping in, either. Yet, here they both are, fairies in tow, painting and doing up the walls of the buildings. The rubble was all but gone and the roads were at least clear now, with the addition of a few new trees – little ones – planted alongside the pavement. Not to mention the two new shops that had apparently taken residence in your absence.

Walking past one of the many barrels now littering the plaza and ducking past a stack of boxes with alien labels on them. You don’t remember these being around when you left, either. As you step down the main street you see your right-hand man chatting – no, yelling at several men who most definitely did not look like the ex-gang members that you’d previously hired. Fingers – as always – looks livid. The men, to their credit, don’t flinch.

‘Look, I don’t care how you do it! Tell the boys upstairs that the cranes ain’t reg! We’re stretched thin as is, and The Boss ain’t gonna be back anytime soon – you tell ‘em that if they wanna do this, they gotta do this our way because I don’t give a hoot who they think they frickin’ are. If they ain’t my ma or my pa, they can shove off and eat crow.’

You approach him as the men leave.

‘Fingers?’

An excited squeal is followed by an awkward – and weirdly weak – hug as your subordinate wraps his arms around you and calls out your nickname. He detaches from you with a relieved smile on his features, rubbing the back of his head.

‘I’m sorry, you can’t imagine how friggin’ happy I am ta see ya.’ He confides honestly. ‘It’s been crazy. None of the newbies listen to what I say, none of the army guys are – have you lost weight?’

Despite yourself, you puff your chest a little to emphasize the point.

‘A little.’ You shake your head. ‘Fingers, you wanted to see me about District Management?’

‘You damn right I do.’ He turns a little red. ‘Sorry, boss. Here.’

He hands you the pad.

Guess what's back? And a new tricked out map made by the late Rolf!

Last thread we genocided the murlocks, ended polygamy, wiped out the AIDS epidemic, ended the decades long tradition of shitting on the streets, and we discovered a bunch of other cool things.

We also saw the deaths of almost all our first generation from old age, sicknesses, and the minor issue of war and Balrogs.

There are anon factions, however everyone has their own character if they so desire, and the characters get abilities whenever rolling nat 90s and above.

Genes are a thing in this game, and

this is the discord channel where people can fill you in on some of the other stuff.

Every X5 and X0 year allows personal actions, and normally there are no personal actions, otherwise there is way too much happening and it's bloody confusing and hard to balance everything.

>C: Military
We should modernize our military. Make every weapon that we have steel, as well as regularly changing the shoes on our horses, as well as training every man in the nation in a basic form of war, and keeping an armory in the town center.

F:Technology
I know last time this roll kept getting shit on, so lets go for it again. We should institute a standard measure of weights and measurements across the nation to better facilitate the government and Trade.

F:Technology
We should finally look into a common currency too, to break away from the barter system that has it's flaws. We will mint coins from the many mines we have, and give them the Government. Gold will be the highest denominator, with Silver next, and finally copper coins as the lowest.

I: Diplomacy
We should keep pushing the Dwarven and Elven relationship. It is important that every member of HEDA is close in relations, and willing to help each other at a moments notice.

D:Culture:
With Currency being created, we should start the move away from a Communistic society to a capitalistic one. With the standardized weights, as well as a currency, we should encourage the common man to go out and pursue his own fortune, by whatever means.

Hi I'm Erik I came to take drugs and make quests, and I'm all out of drugs (jk). I recently (very recently) made a Quest Called Acid Girl Quest #1, which followed newly-formed Acid Girl Apriil as she finds the true power of music within herself, and gets a nightly spot at what is now the hippest night-club in the Dissociative District.

Like all my Quests, it takes place in a homebrew setting called The City, a kind of alternate dimension overlapping our own, populated by people who can tune their brainwaves JUST right. The City has Universal Laws the way our universe does, they are just much weaker, and more poetic.

Something important to remember is that art is cannon; you'll see what I mean.

In Acid Girl Quest #2: Mescaline Edition we shift the point of view to another Acid Girl in The City, chosen by YOU.

So what I'm going to do, REALLY quick, is post like, five pictures of Acid Girls for you to choose from. Ready? Ok, one sec.

In this game, you take control of a single character in a battle against corruption. Generally, the further down this list you go, the more familiar you should make yourself with the rules. Don't be afraid to learn on the fly, just expect surprises.

Ask questions!

It was the dead of night, and the moon stood proudly among the stars, as full as it could be. Like a bloodstained golden coin floating among the clouds, it shined down upon the world for all to see. And in a forest, long since drenched in magic and misery's long forgotten, it smiled upon one of its strongest children. Beneath overgrown trees, surrounded by misshapen bones of fool hardy and unlucky beasts and mad monsters, sat the queen of the werewolves, one of the few monstrous breeds that had lived before the new world.

Her hair was long and wild, and her skin was tanned, unlike most of her brood and gathered kin. It almost made her look like some hero of an old greek story, or something similar. the transformation had let to take her, as she sat in the shade of the trees over head, her wolf like ears twitching as anger ran through her veins like a wild fire through a dusty old field. Her eyes narrowed as she glared at the screen in front of her, her pack to scared to move or turn it off as her rage built and built. Her teeth grew to fangs, and her nails stretched into black, wicked looking claws. Her features flowed, as her will fought against her emotions, shifting from wolf to her...more human look.

"And it isn't surprising their were riots as she's a very...very contentious figure" the troll on the screen said calmly, his female human co star nodding in agreement "And her and her country's beliefs are in no way shared with the rest of the world, since they're perhaps the only country that views all its citizens as equal, be they monster or man, and has no fear of living among eachother and uh"

the man flipped through his notes, as the queen of the black forest dug her claws into her stone throne, cutting it like butter

"There were riots of course, violent ones that actually brought the men of centil and the monsters of it together, surprisingly" the troll said happily as his empty headed co star played with her hair "but they seem to have been....repressed with some casualties, unfortunately, however in better knews, neither of the royal families were injured and it seems that King Damian Crawlby the third and the Brausr, the mother of monsters, and so called Queen, who has been called the Bloody Bitch of Brausrburge by her detractors Layla Miller have reached an agreement of sorts and"

"ARRRRRRRRGH!" Marla roars, crushing the tv under her fist, and the table under it, and the rock beneath it.

the other werewolves whined, and cowered, as their alpha slowly turned, her fangs glistening, as the scar over her throat, and heart showed through her thick fur.

She growled, unable to be understood through her fangs and wolf like muzzle.

"Layla....." She grumbled, as she stalked back into the home she had built in a cave "Layla...how can they still not see what kind of monster you are?"

MODIFIED CIV THREAD:

You are part of a young, small, but established civilization, ruled by an autocratic leader.

Lately, the first dynasty of that archaic realm have been weakened by claimants, and society is plunging into chaos. A civil war has broken out.
You seize this opportunity to escape the tyranical grip of your masters, and decide to lead a tribe of your own into the unknown.

Let a new order be born out of your rule, and may your legacy live beyond the threads.

¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤

General Rules:
- Pick a name for your tribe, and a preferred colour and send it into a direction to explore until you decide to Settle.
- Once Settled, give directions to your people to explore and extend your territory.
- Make a peace deal, or attack another tribe if its territory is bordering yours. Last two digits are your attack/defense power for the next round (01-98), 00 is a critical failure, 99 is a critical success.
- Trips and quads triggers an event, either good or bad.
- Flavortext and roleplay is appreciated.

World:
- Mountains (brown) obstruct vision and are impassable.
- Rivers and small bodies of water are crossable with Boats*.
- Oceans and/or large bodies of water are crossable with Ships*.
*Construction of Boats takes 1 turn.
*Construction of Ships takes 2 turns and you require atleast 6 regions.
*Boats are presented by a dot on the world map, Ships are presented by a larger dot.
*Boats cannot cross Oceans however they can follow the shoreline.
*OP decides what a large or small body of water is.

Turns:
- Per turn you can decide to do 1 out of 2 things.
1. Claim/expand a region. (After you Settle)
2. Start construction on a Boat or Ship.
- Your Roll gets counted uptil 7 minutes after OP's update. After the 7 minutes OP finishes the next update.
- You can always decide to move your Boat/Ship.

Empire:
- The first 'moving' region you begin with has to Settle, then it can expand. Your moving region can also construct a Boat.
This Boat has only 1 ''charge'' instead of the normal 2. With the Boat you can decide to instantly Settle a coastal region, or just to disembark and continue on foot.
- You can claim up to 4 regions per turn.
Rolling 00 grants 0 regions.
Rolling 01-33 grants maximum 1 region.
Rolling 34-66 grants maximum 2 regions.
Rolling 67-98 grants maximum 3 regions.
Rolling 99 grants maximum 4 regions.
- When you have 8 regions you can set 1 region as your Capitol*.
- Boats can Colonize 2 regions, after that the Boat is depleted.
- Ships can Colonize 3 regions, after that the Ship is depleted.
*A Capitol takes atleast a roll of 70 to take, nomatter the roll of the defender.
All adjecent regions take atleast a roll of 50 to take.
Once a Capitol has been captured by an enemy, you can not set a new one. You can only (try to) retake it.
- If you are part of an Alliance you can trade/give Boats/Ships and regions with/to eachother.
You can not trade your Capitol Region nor its adjacent regions.
- Resetting a new Capitol is possible after 8 turns. Your old Capitol Region will return into a normal region and its adjecent regions aswell.
- If you decide to claim land through a Boat/Ship (colonize) your maximum expansion is that respective region, no matter if your roll is for 2 or 3 regions.
(Thus if your roll is 56, and you wish to expand with a Boat, you can only claim one region that turn; the region the Boat colonizes. But if you decide to just expand, you claim 2 regions.)
- You can always decide to move your Ship or Boat, no matter what you did in the turn.
- A tribe may not settle too close to the Motherland.

492KB, 1920x1080px
War:
- If you attack another tribes territory whoever gets the highest Roll wins.
If the defender wins he keeps the territory. Attacking or defending is decided by who declares the first.
If the defender wins the roll by more than 30 extra (att. rolls 40, def. rolls 70) the defender gets a Counterattack Bonus*.
If the defender with the Counterattack Bonus attacks the tribe which attacked him in the last turn, his roll can be 10 lower than the attacker and still be succesful.
If a defender gets attacked by more than one faction, he rolls a seperate defence-Roll for that attack.
If an attacker loses the roll with more than 30 (att. rolls 40, def. rolls 70) the attacker gets an Attack Penalty on the respective defender.
If the attacker with the penalty attacks the same defender again next round, his Roll gets a 10 penalty. (86 -> 76).
Thus per turn a tribe can attack once per turn, and defend as much as he gets attacked.
*The Counterattack Bonus also applies to any Allies of the attacker which the defender wishes to counterattack.
- Succesful Naval Invasions (attacking from a Boat or Ship) requires that the Attackers Roll is atleast 15 higher than the defenders Roll.
- A tribe cannot declare war on the Motherland. However, the Motherland may well declare war to a tribe.
>>
And since this board does not have the highest activity and postnumbers can be close to eachother, rolling is done by actual rolling and not by looking at the last two digits of a postnumber.

He's got his back towards you, ready to walk back to the front it seems. There's only a few feet worth of distance between the two of you, and it would take no time at all to cover it. You take a moment to prep yourself up, trying steady the racing heart in your chest before even trying to rush in. There's been guys bigger than him in the past, ones that had friends to back them up, and you went into those fights head-on and came out alright in the end. This is just one guy, that's nothing. Any other time and you wouldn't even be having second thoughts about it, so just go.

Go ahead and do it, and you damn well better do it right

Sneak forward, watching every step you take. You even hold your breath, everything to keep your noise down. The man is trudging forward through the snow, taking his leisure. Every high step her takes out of the snow is matched by one of your own, working to edge in the distance. Once he rounds the corner you can move in quicker and nab him, easy enou-

He comes to a sudden stop, and you prepare to rush him. Just as you have began to to move a warm glow lights his face, the low flame of a lighter at hand. Far too late to stop, you still attempt to reel back your hard step forward only to fumble and fall against the house. Once the man looks back, wide eyed and cigarette hanging from his mouth, it becomes too late for any sort of retreat or planning. All you can do is sprint forward and pray that you're faster than the hand reaching into his coat.

The first thing you come to realize upon grabbing the man is that he's not frail, not in the slightest. He's forced to take steps back, but he sure as hell isn't knocked to the ground like you wanted. Your focus is on his right hand, the one tucked away inside his coat. A gun can't get involved with this, not like this. Despite his struggling you manage to pull his hand away, but the only sign of silver comes from the watch around his wrist. This only leaves you with mere seconds to prepare for the fist coming from his left, knuckles cracking from their connection to your face. You grit your teeth past it, refusing to lose your stance or hold on him.

For a fight between two grown men, it's rather silent. Maybe you both know what's at stake, that there is no withdrawing or truce to be had. Someone has to win in this fight and by god it has got to be you.

[1/4]
>>
One thing you've come to notice is that every move this guy makes is precise, knowing how to keep from being cornered or held down. He's quick at recovering from everything you throw at him, much more than you had expected. Either you can't land a hit on him or when you do it barely grazes him. This is going to get fought to the tooth and nail, it's taking everything you can to keep him from escaping to the car. You realize that the house can serve as an advantage right now, and prepare your footing once again. A punch comes your way again and this time you willing accept it, pushing past the pain in your shoulder as you move. The man has to recover from the swing, and so you take the one chance you have. His nose is your first target, getting crushed beneath your forearm. As he attempts to recoil your arm goes lower, leaning against his throat now. You recognize his choking as getting the damned air knocked out, something you're rather familiar with.

His hands try to reach inside his coat once again, but the growing pressure you exert on his neck becomes worrying. His nails scratch against your coat in vain and as painful as it might be he manages to mouth 'I give'.

With just enough slack he can breathe again, but you are quick to motion for him to remain silent. He follows your direction fairly well, not putting up a struggle as you lead him to the window. Your arm remains locked around his neck, making sure to keep your grip extra tight as you knock against the glass.

"Hey there cowboy," John says as he helps pull the man inside, "You and us bout to have a little talk."

"A uh...a talk sounds rather nice right now." He responds, blood stained teeth as he no longer tries to stop the bloody nose you gave him.
When he's told to raise his arms up high he complies, blood dripping down his face and to the floor as he's frisked. Eric and Mabel stand at the stairway, there's no doubt that Aria is trying to keep the kids in check.

"Don't know what you were thinkin'," John says, pulling out cigarette box from the man's coat. "You come up here with tools to jimmy the look, but you don't bring anythin' to defend yourself? You know, they been talkin' about a buncha thieves running around these streets. " He opens the box and examines the contents, moving them about. "Looks like you're runnin' pretty low here too, you really come that unprepared?"

[2/4]
>>
"Mind passing one up then? Lost mine out in the snow." John follows the request, putting the cigarette in place for him. "Now, you think you could light it?" I would, but uh..." He looks back to Mabel, who works on securing his hands behind his back with zip ties.

"I'll help ya with the lighter if you play nice." John flips the small piece of plastic between his fingers, taunting him with it.

"I guess if them are your rule-" He flinches as Mabel finishes the secures, his arms now kept behind his back. "Think you could get 'em any tighter?" His attempt at friendliness gets shot down by her dark glare, tightening what she can further in spite.

"Fucking creep." She spits, moving back towards John. He sets the lighter on the table, opting to hold a pocketknife instead.

"You can start talkin' whenever you like," the blade flicks out enough to show it's silver blade, John holding it with a steady hand, "But you outta know, I got a much bigger one of these waitin'."

"I gotcha I gotcha, just give me a sec..." he takes a moment to spit, dark red making its stain on the wood. "Well, guess I should introduce myself. If you check out my wallet you got there, you'll see that I'm one Mr. Crockett, and a, well a private investigator."

"Okay. Now tell us something we want to know."

"Well let me start with, I'm awfully sorry this is how we had to meet. But you wouldn't answer the door, so had to do what I do best. Really do wish it could have been better though."

"God, just get to the point of it man!" Mabel says annoyed and anxious.

""Sorry bout that ma'am, just a bit hard to think when all my blood is making a puddle on the floor..." You take the obligation, bringing a rag to his face and attempting to help with the bleeding. "Thank you, didn't think you'd be the one doing this." You give a light squeeze with the fingers touching his face, letting him know that you're more than willing to return to how it was outside.

"Alright alright how about this, you got any buddies headin' this way to back you up?" John asks, irritation leaking in his voice.

"No sir. Usually do work best alone, and tonight's no different."

"And why was your work here?"

"Been hired by a very lovely customer, just trying to do what she's paying me for-" The squeezing continues, harder than before. "-ah. Well then, I don't suppose you folks have seen a young lady named Delilah, have you? Just trying to get her back to family."

Last time, on Fate/Quest, we established that we were the future hero of justice, Shirou Emiya, as we made a contract with the servant Saber Arturia, and had our internal organs scrambled no less than three times between Lancer and Assassin. The fourth wall was shattered by a horribly CGI dragon that sounded like Saber, Kiritsugu and Irisviel were revealed to still be alive, and Caster ate our leftovers.

Today on Fate/Quest...

You awaken to find Saber half asleep on a cushion in a corner of your room. She honestly looks kind of cute in that position, trying to sit up on her knees, but slowly nodding off while trying to drink some tea. It almost makes one forget that she's not actually human, and doesn't actually need sleep or food. You yawn loudly as you get out of bed to retrieve the envelope that was left on your dresser while you were asleep.

"Hey, Saber, who left this letter for me?"
"It's from Irisviel. She said that you should open it as soon as you woke up."
"I'll read it while we're eating then."

You put the envelope in your pocket. Nobody had bothered to change you out of your casual clothes after last night's debacle. There were plenty of holes in the shirt though, but it wasn't anything your magic couldn't fix in ten or so minutes. You decide food is more important first, however, and head into the kitchen to see what you can make with leftovers. Thankfully, there's some food in the fridge for you with a note on it from Irisviel that she made you some food before she left with Kiritsugu.

You do adore your mother so. She's too precious. You whisper a quiet thank you to her as you unwrap the leftovers and place them in the microwave with a glass of water to heat them up. At some point during this, Saber slips into the room and sits down at the table. You see this and pull out some of the breakfast cereal you keep on top of the fridge for days when you don't feel like cooking, and pour saber a bowl.

"I'm sorry we don't have any milk right now, the last jug spoiled, and it was just before all of this went down. Is no milk fine?"
"I lived in a time before milk was almost always safe to consume. I think I can do without it."
"Okay then."

Beep beep, went the microwave. You pulled out the bowl that the food was in, being careful to not burn yourself in the process. You retrieved a few spoons from the drawer next to the dish washer, and brought the food to the table, giving saber her bowl of cereal and setting your leftovers down, pulling out the envelop. It was pretty stuffed, but you could tell not all of what was inside was going to be a letter by the shape on it's own. Opening it, you found this to be very true, as you found a letter inside, and a few miscellaneous objects that you're sure would be explained in the letter.

Time for swords.

God fucking damn it I love swords so fucking much.

Also enclosed in the envelope was a key, which suspiciously matched the one that Kiritsugu always used to open the safe in his and Irisviel's room.

You begin to read the letter.

Dear Shirou:
We were hoping this day wouldn't come, to be honest, the Holy Grail War was something we were going to try and bury in history after the end of the last one by destroying the Greater Grail for good. Sadly, things started up way sooner than anyone predicted and we were unable to stop it in time. Your father and I are too busy making sure that worse things aren't happening to actually help you with this constantly, however if you absolutely need us, we will come right back, and remember, we're always just a phone call away if you need to talk to us or want advice. I asked your father to get in contact with Maya and have her come back to town in our place to help you out for a bit, but so far he hasn't been able to contact her as of my writing this. She usually picks up right away when he calls, but she didn't this time. One of us will send you an email when we manage to get through to her. Anyway, your father and I are both genuinely sorry you got involved in this mess, but you've got one of the best servants summonable by the system, so you're sure to win as long as you apply yourself. We wish you nothing but the best of luck.
-Love, Mom

Well, that was a thing. You wonder what else they hadn't been telling you, but decide that overall, it's probably not important. You instead turn your attention to Saber and ask if she's seen any cool swords in her combat experience.

"I've seen plenty of cool swords. A good lot of them were magical, too. There was this one sword that didn't really look like a sword, it looked more like a really twisted lance, but you could stab people with it and it would always pierce their armor."
"Wow. That sounds really useful."

And the conversation goes on like this for a while, Saber recounting tales of swords much like Excalibur, a sword that, at the cost of the user's life, could destroy anything within a radius of the user, and a sword that would never break, no matter how much damage it took.

And so it begins anew. This time on schedule!

Though I may change the dates again so that I get to post more on my free days.

Your boot presses against the back of the crippled spectre desperately crawling away from you, just centimeters away from its dropped rifle. You put a bullet through its head just as its fingers brush against the weapon, and just to be sure you kick it away in a far off corner, out of sight.

"Clear on my corner!" You shout to Hong, then you hear several more shots.

"Survivors terminated." Hong answers, satisfied. "This was easier than expected."

You nod. "Yeah. Not bad for a first job."

"T-Team four, come in. Team four come in!" A burst of static comes from a hand radio strapped to one of the dead grunts chests. The caller continues to ask for a response, growing more desperate with each failed return call.

Eagle then enters the room. The cyborg looking none worse for wear despite a fresh air seal patch strapped to her shoulder.

"Ran into a patrol." Eagle answers before you can ask. "Superficial wounds. The seal will hold."

You nod. "Good." You then turn to Hong as he returns, the black simulacrum sporting splatters of red across his chest and flat face. "Find the primary terminal. Hack it. Then deplete all the emergency air. Then we head to the bridge."

"What about the Stalkers outside? They're still in decent condition. Could use the parts, but they'll be heavy."

It’s been three months, six days, and twenty seven….make that twenty *eight* minutes since your life was changed forever. You were just a college junior, a girl that thought a future in the CSI was all there was to look forward to. Your days still consist of college, parties with Tabitha, and hauling your Mom up from the couch and making her go to work, but now...right this moment, when your legs are on fire and time slows to a crawl around you as you surge through the streets of Central City….*that* the time that you’re truly alive.

Now, when you feel pure undiluted lightning singing along every nerve, every atom of your being, when you’re feeling the wind part in awe of you, is when you are who you were really meant to be.

You are the fastest woman alive.

You are…

You are Captain Kusajishi Riku, and you've spent the entire day so far dealing with the fallout of the reigai rebellion. There are such far-reaching implications to the whole series of events mostly due to what the reigai are and how they were made. There's no doubt in your mind that most Captains and Lieutenants wouldn't be comfortable unless their own copies were destroyed, and you can't say that you don't understand the feeling. Had you not dispatched your own reigai and instead been given the chance to spare or condemn her after the fact you're not sure what you would do.

That's why you're at the First Division barracks, to meet with Shunsui to discuss how to proceed now that the leader of the reigai rebellion has been killed.

Unfortunately it seems you're not the only one who has to speak with the Head Captain today. Unohana has beaten you to it, and you can feel it by focusing on her reiatsu as you draw closer.

“Do you know why Captain Unohana is here, Lieutenant?” you ask Nanao, having invited yourself into the reception hall. She glances up from whatever paperwork has been keeping her occupied, seemingly surprised both at your unannounced appearance and your awareness of Unohana's visit.

Nanao shakes her head quietly. “No, ma'am. And even if I had been told, this seems... personal.”

“Who called it?” you press, determined to find out something before allowing the subject to drop completely.

“I believe my Captain did, which makes this seem all the stranger,” Nanao explains carefully. “Normally he would tell me what a planned visit from a Captain was about, or at least allow me to sit in on the meeting. But I've rarely seen him look so grim as he did this morning.”

Shunsui looked 'grim'? That barely even computes. They must be discussing something that he doesn't really want to talk about, something personal or else offensive to him on a personal level. The problem becomes that you can't really narrow it down further from there without speculating, and unfortunately you have too little information to go on.

“Thank you, Lieutenant,” you nod slowly, meaning to move on. “Could you tell him I'm here? I'll wait if I have to, but this is important business about the reigai.”

“I'll certainly pass it along that you're here,” Nanao bows, “assuming he doesn't know already. No offense meant ma'am, but you Captains have an annoying habit of knowing far more than you let on.”

“Feel free to wait out in the garden, I'll send someone in a bit to see to your comfort.”

The leaves on some of the trees have just started to turn in the Seireitei: the seasons here have always begun earlier and ended later than anywhere in Japan, and the fall foliage is no different. Soon enough your Division's grounds will be filled with crimson and golden foliage, enjoyed both by your own subordinates and by visitors who come to see the large, open gardens with their groves of maple and ginkgo trees set amidst the now-dormant fruit trees and the evergreen cedars. In contrast, what few gardens the First Division's grounds actually has are much smaller and more secluded, tucked away into courtyards amid and sometimes atop the high towers that are common here. These are owned by individual officers and their families, and probably the largest of these belongs to the office of the Head Captain.

The white gravel here has been flattened at some point recently, probably in preparation for raking, so you don't feel particularly bad about walking out into it. At the center is a lone pine surrounded by an arrangement of three hard, dark stones of some sort of igneous material, dense and smooth despite their angular lines. All around the gently undulating margins of the gravel sea are more rocks of a similar material, and enough trees to shade the adjoining portico from the most intense hours of sun. Only a few are turning right now, the rest mostly being pine or cherry trees, whose branches are already beginning to shed their leaves. The smell of the trees and the moss growing between the stones gives the air a wonderful scent, meaning it would be a shame to put your time here to waste.

Shinrin-yoku: the 'new medicine' name for an activity that nobility in Japan have enjoyed for centuries but proposed in the 1980's as a form of stress-management. The essential oils and the clean air are good for the body, particularly when combined with a derivation of the old practice of kaihōgyō by which a monk was meant to walk 'with awareness'. Basically... it means a stroll through a forest, or else a garden with dense enough foliage to achieve the same effect. While you've never been one to stroll you do have a similar practice, one more suited for someone of such a martial bent.

Setting aside your zanpakuto, you begin your own sort of meditative exercise. It's similar to tai chi in its pace and fluidity, but instead focuses on movements and positions that are derived from typical hakuda training sets: specifically those that can be easily performed with a sword in hand. The wonderfully fresh air, the late-morning calm, and your own focus on the practice all work in concert to heighten your awareness of every small aspect of your routine... except for the passage of time.

You don't know how long you've been at it when you're interrupted by a familiar voice.

Well, seems you're unlucky enough or lucky enough to be going through a trigger event.

What's a trigger event? Well let me enlighten you: a trigger event is that traumatizing, shitty experience you eventually look back on with dread.

It's also an event where your powers awaken, as in SUPERpowers. But before we get along, time to find out who you are
