I'm looking for a photo camera for traveling as my last one got stolen. When I was traveling alone, I really enjoyed taking pictures. It's a nice and time consuming hobby.
I was seriously considering the Sony α6000 with its APS-C sensor, but then found plenty of detailed reviews stating that the kit lens it comes with is supposedly utter garbage, so the alternative would be to just buy the body and add a better lens to it.
I'm looking for a zoomable wide angle lens starting at the equivalent of 24mm, but I have found only one for E mount, the Sony SEL1670Z, and that's a lens for full frame sensors, so there will be cropping which would not make it a wide angle lens anymore.
As the lens is also disproportionally more expensive than the α6000 body, the Sony α7 with a kit lens will be the cheaper deal and features a full frame sensor. But its kit lens starts at 28mm as opposed to 24mm, which for my use is heavily suboptimal. So buy the α7 body and add the better lens to it and I'm at over 1800 $.
Now it's not a compact camera anymore, mostly due to the lens, so I can't take it with me when I go running for example. There's the Sony rx100 mk3 which is really compact, but it only features a tiny 1 inch sensor but comes with a relatively good lens, at least better than the kit lens of the α6000, but it's a compromise at every corner, featuring far less dynamic range than the latter two and one can't attach a polarization filter.
How to resolve this dilemma? Is there an alternative compact camera with good kit lens that I haven't come to know yet?
>24mm (or equivalent)
>zoom
>compact
pick two my man. you won't get all three. kit zooms all start at 28mm.
>>3030354
buy the body + kit, sell the kit.
>SEL1670Z
that's apsc. anyway, it's shit.
get the 10-18mm instead.
if you really want cheap sharp 24mm equivalent, you have to go fuji, get the 16-50 kit and use it at 16 exclusively.
>>3030354
The kit lens is fine. It's a pancake zoom with ois and th3 same aperture range as any other kit.
Your only other options that small are the Panasonic lx100 as a compromise or maybe an m43 ilc with a kit lens - the new ones have pretty much the same dr as apsc, just ISO is still a stop worse, but you're fine up to 3200.
Was APS film good or just a gimmick?

How do you meet people that are into photography? I tried joining local fb groups, they are trashy mum/dadtogs that shoot hdr. Which, yes, has its merits if you are into that, but i am not a 40 year old with 3 kids.

You don't. It's a solitary pasttime. You labour in the dark, and then you die, so the next generation can discard your treasured lenses and rare vintage cameras as trash.
Don't seek companionship here, there is none.
>when your medium format scans are 500MB each
>>3030698
Just curious. I have an 8x10 camera, would the film scan well on a flat bed, and how big would the scans be?
>>3030699
My scanner isn't big enough to do transparency large format scanning.
It depends on what DPI you scan at though. I actually probably don't need to scan these medium format negatives at 2400 DPI but I have been scanning 35mm negatives and just got in the habit.
It does produce beautiful scans though that have latitude for days (at least with portra)
>>3030702
what kind of scanner do you have? I've got a Rolleiflex and wouldn't mind developing at home and getting some good scans
We were talking about image compression and file sizes among my more tech literate friends, when someone mentioned something disturbing and interesting.

So dearest /p/, I'm in a bit of a pickle.
Color calibration is such an important issue for us yet you rarely ever see it mentioned or discussed.
How do you know when you've got accurate color? Do you use software or external devices that supposedly do all the work for you?
As you can probably tell from the amount I paid for the TV I'm not in a position right now to be buying expensive toys so that's a thing.
As always /p/ I value your input and advice.
>>3030661
you're fucked op, you get for what you pay, can't cheap out on a monitor and not even sure why your using a tv a monitor in the first place. as for the second question you need an external device that calibrates the correct color over your screen and those can cost quit a bit.
>>3030661
To be fair, your earlier monitor was probably off too, Vizio is well known for its lack of color accuracy.
There is actual hardware for colo4 calibration, your eyes will always be off.
Is a link to one of the cheaper well reviewed ones a simple google search gave me.
>>3030667
The TV I was using before actually had really accurate color, I remember making a big deal about that when I got it (gg dad). But you're right, it was a stupid move to cheap out, I did it really fast without thinking about it.
>>3030671
Okay good to know this is an issue that must be corrected with hardware, and although $100 is steep for me right now it looks like a worthwhile investment, thank you for finding that for me.
It seems cheaper options are limited to just once device per license.
Hello guys, i bought DSLR (Nikon D3200), specifically for filming, not shootin pictures, and i noticed this that the battery life is extremrly short while filming, like 10 minutes (on 24fps), and i dont know if problem with the battery or that is usual for this model. how it should be. Thank a lot.

whats a good camera for someone who doesn't know really that much at all about cameras, doesn't want to spend a lot of money, and just wants to take some nice photos and maybe print them out or develop them and frame them

Look at used cameras, I recently sold my entry level Nikon D3200 for 220 bucks when it cost twice that new because nobody wants to buy DSLRs anymore. Look into the Nikon D3200, D3300, D3400 or the Canon Rebel models. And remember that the lens you use makes a much bigger difference in how good your image looks than the body does, so it's worth spending a bit less on the body and get a good lens.

Can I create a 2nd camera man with a static 4k camera and simulated camera movement? Immediately I imagine it will still just look flat and cheap but I don't know if this is something that is done or not. Scoping for a youtube travel food show
>>3026631
Like if you had two cameras set up?
If so yeah, that would work. It would be a lot of additional work just to simulate some camera movement. Why do you need that?
>>3026637
an actual person would handle one camera that would focus on the most immediate things happening, and the static camera would be taking a wider shot where different focuses can be zoomed in on. How hard is it to simulate camera movement? I haven't used video software in a while, seems like there should be presets for movement honestly
>>3026639
Yeah, that should work. I think it would be best if its possible to get the secondary shots hand held by yourself afterwards.
I assume it's pretty easy to do, im sure it's just an effect you drop in, just more rendering time and time spent making the effect look natural
