I know there's a bit of Sony hate here but I've been using a RX100 iii for two years now and it's been amazing. I've wanted to upgrade to a DSLR for a long time but I mostly take it hiking or traveling and I'd prefer to keep it compact as possible.
The a6300 has a bigger sensor, weather sealing, and almost everything that the rx100iii has too. The 6500 is more than I should spend on a camera for an enthusiast, but it has in body stabilization, is that a big deal ?
Should I stick with the kit lens for a while before upgrading ? If I was to choose an all-in-one lens for travel and landscape, what should I look at ?

Avoid the kit lens like the plague. I shoot Sigma primes on my a6000 and they are way better.
>>3031801
This guy knows. I got the lens kit cos I didn't know shit at the time. Used it once in 2 years.
30mm Sigma is cheap and sharp. I've heard they don't last forever but the 19mm is 40% the price of Sony's own 20mm and sharper so who cares?
Just a quick question, /p/ - is this thing right here (Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC) an acceptable solution for a REALLY tight budget? Pls halp.
...or should I go with pic related?
>>3031603
for what camera and for what purpose?
>>3031607
Just sold an older version of that one today. VR is nice but focus was jumping back and forth in AF-C. Maybe mine was shit. Never buy tamron though.
Please see pic attached.
I think my sensor overheated. Video recording stopped and a thermometer icon started flashing and prevented me from recording additional footage.
Does overheated sensor cause irreparable damage, such as destroyed pixels. Is there any way to check for any damage that may have been done?
>>3031150
what camera do you jave
>>3031155
Canon EOS Rebel T2i. It's precious to me.
Make a dead pixel test but I wouldn't be worried. The auto switch off is there for a reason, to prevent damage to the camera.
I've been playing around in photoshop trying to create a VHS type effect with photos I have taken (significantly cropped). i could really use some constructive criticism on this method on how to improve it, and what might be good to add to it. I really like the way they come out but I feel like something is missing.

what do you think lads?
good or bad?
meme or real?
the future or DOA?
i like how small it is but otherwise there arent many upsides
>>3031344
They seem to have squeezed an extra stop of dr out of the sensor in the latest sensor generation, not sure if there's a trade off somewhere else, so they look interesting to me...great in good light, then a bit of a compromise at high ISO that you can mitigate with dxo software and fast lenses.
>>3031344
Bad. It's just too much of a compromise and doesn't give much leeway in terms of expanding potential things you can do with it...
>>3031349
Seeing how small and sharp their 100-400 (200-800 equivalent) lenses are at a very small size I'd say is a nice potential
A friend of mine asked me to be his wedding photographer, but I currently don't have the equipment for the job. I've got a basic ass Nikon D3000 with a freaking kit lens, I'm moving so I can't just buy new shit, and I have one month to figure something out.
So I've heard about renting equipment, in this case I just need a couple lenses and proper flash, but I've never seen a thread about it before.
Is renting a lens a stupid idea? Have any of you tried it? Any websites you recommend? Am I fucked?

lensrentals and borrowlenses are both great.
make sure you rent them two days before the wedding so you can spend 24-48 hours to familiarize yourself with the equipment. now is not a great time to experiment with new brands or crazy shit.
make your friend pay for the rental, since he's getting off cheap anyway by having his basic ass equipped friend do it for (presumably) free or very close to free.
>>3031088
>I'm sorry man, I don't have the right equipment for the job and since I'm moving I can't take on a project like that right now. Maybe I can do the next one?
Is that so hard?
Renting a lens is fine - problem is most of the time for like a week you end up doing like 15-20% of the value of the lens, if it's your only option then go for it.
So tomorrow I'm going to get an old FED 3 (pic related, essentially a Soviet Leica rip-offfrom the 1970s). I've been shooting digital with a Lumix for the past two years and therefore have no idea about what to expect from a film camera, how do these things even work? How hard is it going to be to control the aperture without any visual guidance?

They're incredibly cheap, you can easily find a decent one for less than 30 bucks on Ebay. If something, you could go for it just for the sake of being a great-looking collectible, if you're into vintage camera aesthetic.

Are photographers as a whole more depressed than the rest of artists? Or just the normal amount?

actual model here/
if you have a few images already that are good, you can contact a local agency and ask for a "test shoot" with their new faces. it's usually free for both sides, as you both get portfolio work out of it (hopefully)
but if you don't even have a few images to demonstrate you're worth it to the agencies, I recommend shooting some craigslist models or some shit to get there.
>>3026811
> Do I really have find a model and pay for it?
That's the typical way to do this as a nobody. Lots of people need money.
You can also always shoot /a/ plastic waifus if you prefer.
It's that time again. It's the time where /p/ descends into the bizarre infighting that happens once a year as the forum births forth a book of the images of the year. Participation is open. Submit what you will but keep in mind that blatant troll submissions will be ignored. Curation will be modest. This should reflect the community and will be inclusive to any anon of any reasonable level. Since it came up last time I was foolish enough to run this keep the submissions PG. While we all love the black and white photo of the chick blowing bubbles while riding a dildo that shit won't fly in this book.
How to play:
You can submit 1 or 2 photos but you will only get 1 page. So if you want a full page photo go for it, if you want 2 photos they willl be on one page together.
The book will be square and published on blurb for purchase (from which I will make no money) and will be available as a pdf for free.
Email your submission to: [email protected]
S U B M I S S I O N G U I D E L I N E S (dont fuck this part up)
List your name/trip if you want it to appear with your photos and how it should appear
Make your photos 12" on the long side @300 dpi
Name them your name eg: DerpyHooves_1.lolpg
jpg or tiff is fine, it doesn't really matter to me
When will NatureGuy deliver? Probably towards the end of April. I have a terrible amount of stuff on my plate atm. A bunch of work got pre-purchased and I need to produce and print that work by early June and that will be taking the majority of my time. This is a side project that is being done for personal nostalgia 's sake.
Submissions are open now through midnight Feb 28th.
Did I forget anything?
