It's not a meme. It's used in most digital editing processes.
JPEG is the 10 year old stupid ass image format that everyone can use, but it's not really adequate before you are dealing with the final output (and I honestly hope I can be rid if JPEG itself in like 5-10 years, faster is probably illusory).

I was planning on buying a Sony A7R II or a Fuji X-Pro2
My gf decided she wants a Leica Q for what I'm guess is just because she thinks it's cool. She says if I get the Leica she'll split the price halfway with me.
The thing is, even half of the Leica's price is more than the other camera's with a kit. Is it worth it?

Well, I wouldn't call you a photographic genius, the rays going through the mist is cool, but that's not a merit on your abilities. The edited looks cool, might have gone a little bit too warm for my liking, but that's just opinion.
It would've been cool if you took a vertical image with more of the path in the foreground, just to at least have a second option

Its soft and muddy.
You could make the crepuscular rays pop a little more.
The edit is too heavy with the tint laid straight on top of the image like a gel - with no adjustment.
