I know nothing about cars, so I have no idea if what the mechanic is saying is really worth $480, or if I can get it done somewhere else for cheaper. I already owe him $75 for the analysis to determine the problem, and Google has given him rave reviews.
Just want to know what you guys think of this, and if I should go to another mechanic,or what he is saying is accurate, and fully worth $480/that is the usual charge for this repair.

idiot here. how can diesel engines with the same displacement and compression ratios have different horsepower and torque?

3.0l mitsu diesel 200hp, 450nm of torque, 16:1 17:1 compression
3.0l vw diesel 240hp, 550nm of torque, same compression
3.0l jag diesel 250-270hp, 600nm of torque, same compression

Different shaped cylinders, different airflow rates, the list goes on. Theres more to an engine then displacement.

Does anybody here like the Miata Italia kit? Seems like a pretty cool way to get a special snowflakemobile, even if you're putting $15k of bodywork into a $5k car.
I've been saving up for an M3 but I think I might do this instead. I have experience turbocharging miatas on a poverty tier budget so I could get some speed behind the looks too.
Terrible idea or no?

If that's really how much it costs it's totally not worth it.

But credit where credit is due, that front end looks nice. Something about the area around the front fenders where the door starts is irking me though. It looks tacky there.
>>
>>14970814
Why not buy something that has >200hp out of the starting gates for far under the same price? Why do people on /o/ have such retarded boners over Miatas? I get collecting, but as an only vehicle it seems retarded to trust putting 4x the true value of the vehicle into something that will inevitably be less trustworthy than say, a nice Toyota Camry. Fuck, for 20 grand I can go down and get a used v8 challenger and work on upgrading it with future money from there.

What does /o/ think is the best road trip car for under $5k?

A smooth and quiet ride is extremely important, and I'd like to be able to fold the seats down to sleep in the back. Of course, reliability is extremely important too. wouldn't want the car to die in the middle of bumfucknowheresville.

I've been looking at getting pic related, it looks like a nice car altogether, and the AWD version seems capable.

If I'm on a tighter budget when time comes, I'd probably go for the 240 wagon instead, or an 850/inbetween volvo wagon.

How hard are volvos to work on? Could I learn to work on it myself? I know the 2001 volvo wagon has a turd transmission, how difficult would it be to swap that out if it dies?

Early 2000s Buick Century
Cars are plentiful, well equipped, cheap and reliable
Parts are easy to find, and the car is fairly easy to work on
Comfy ride quality, plenty of space for you and passengers and a big trunk
Not cars that kids thrash, so not a problem
Good ones can be had from 2-4k easily
>>
>>14969679
Thanks, I'll look into that!

How easy is it to sleep in? Could save money if, on road trips, I'm able to skip out on the hotels without a significant detriment to my sleep quality.

The 1997-2005 Century is a 4 door W-body sedan. If you consider one W-body car, You may as well look at them all.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_W_platform

As to my suggestion, I'll suggest the 1991-1996 Chevrolet Caprice and Buick Roadmaster station wagons.
No, they're not fuel efficient. The 4.3L and 5.7L V8s are god-tier from GM's second generation Chebby small block engine family, so they're reliable, so long as you take a few precautions first and remove the entire opti-spark ignition system.
Big floaty comfy wagons that can fold down the seats and even have a rear facing jump seat in the back that also folds flat.

Why are people so concerned about interest rates when financing a car?

Sure, you're paying more than the car's value, overall, but that low monthly payment is leaving you with plenty of money to spend, right?

Because you're paying more than the car is worth.

>bestfriend has paid off 41k mile 2013 Dodge Charger SE
>wants to buy a challenger

I'm letting him keep the car in his name, so he has positive equity, while I pay insurance and a small part of his new car payment. I'm just being added to insurance.

What do you guys think?! The car gets signed over to me whenever we want, and it's not a concern that it won't be.

How would using that car as positive equity work? Will it work? Can he sell it to me immediately after he purchases the other car? How will that affect his interest, you think? He is a trust fund kid (dad) and has a guaranteed 55k a year and only spends $900 a month.

What's changed is that his mother, like mine recently, was taking money specifically not meant for her and blowing through 4K a month of money left to him. He has roughly 4 years left of this.

Guaranteed 55k a year surviving on $900 a month.

I would rather be out cash, as my current way of making money is through college scholarships.

I've already confirmed the car is equity.

I've already run through those scenarios.

Should i or should i not?

I feel like my del sol is better in the streets and the power is already there, i was thinking of getting maybe a universal turbo set up that would most likely fit both cars

so just incase i don't like it in my del sol i could put it in my miata

is this a good idea /o/ >
