RETARD
I recently bought a 2005 Honda Accord EX V6 Coupe off Craigslist, with 80,000 miles for $3K flat.
It's a salvage title, but after taking it for a pretty lengthy test drive and seeing that it ran very well, running a VIN check and a Carfax on it, I decided it was worth the risk and hassle and I bought it. Considering that cars equivalent to it in my area go for $10K or so, I figure that even if I have to put some money into it I'll still come out ahead. Here's the reason it is a salvage title: it appears that it was in New York during Hurricane Sandy, so it was water damaged and written off by the insurance company as a total loss.
The most common advice seems to be to avoid water damaged cars at all cost. However, it appears that in the four years since it was "totaled", somebody has put another 30,000 miles on it, and it still drives fucking fantastic. There also doesn't seem to be any noticable residual damage to the car that I can detect with my untrained senses. There's no residue or rust in the interior and it smells fine inside the car. The biggest problem I can find is that the windshield wipers don't work for some reason.
Did I make a good decision by buying this car, or was it a deal that is too good to be true? Also, what kinds of things are likely to go wrong with my car in the future, and what can I do to prevent or at least delay the inevitable?
I'd say you got your money's worth if you feel like it can run another 60k miles.

>what can I do to prevent or at least delay the inevitable?
replace EVERYTHING electronic
>>16306973

>>16306825

I will be driving to NY from VA in 2 weeks never really had to drive in the winter before, how do I avoid dying? FWD V6 Hyundai Tucson 2008 btw. Rip.
>>16306799
Make sure your vehicle is in good condition, check your tire pressure.
Plan route on google maps or some other shitty map service like waze
Check weather along the route frequently, listen to weather stations or check when you do some stops to pee or shit, it helps if you have data.
The reason why people crash in bad weather is because they go too fast. Only go as fast as you're comfortable with and leave a huge distance between you and the car in front of you.
If it starts snowing just go in a parking lot and slam on the brakes to get an idea of how much traction you have. Different types of snow yeild varying amounts of traction
>>16306799
RIP op.
I know from you living in VA you have never experienced real snowfall so you will likely die.
You were just too dumb to live, It's survival of the fitness buddy.

Hi /o/. Just popping in for a vehicle repair question. I don't know much about them.
I live in North Dakota and it is fucking cold right now. Had 2 "blizzards" in the past 2 weeks. About 4 days ago when it started staying -0 my brakes have begun going to shit. It wasn't too bad at first but now I have pretty much nothing. I feel next to no resistance pushing down and only the very slightest with my foot through the floor board.
It is taking me nearly 7 car lengths to stop if I am traveling 20mph. It is a used as fuck Chevy Blazer 2000. Brake fluid looked dirty but is at the fill line.
Any ideas what it may be?
>>16306554
flush system to be sure, check pads and rotors for buildup or wear. try DOT 4 brake fluid.
>>16306566
>flush system to be sure, check pads and rotors for buildup or wear
Yeah there is no way in shit I can do any of that.
Rough estimate of what a shop will charge? Just general price range, I am not looking to get jewed too hard.
>>16306575
2-3 hours of labor plus parts at your local rates. most shops post their hourly rate where you talk to the receptionist.
So I went to look at this 2003 320i E46 and everything looks clean and it drives nicely. The only hitch the guy said was that it revs up and down sometimes but it hardly happenes anymore because of a software restart he did at a mechanic. Im obviously going to get it checked by a BMW mechanic too. Its done 117000 kms and he's asking $5.8k NZD. thoughts?
Pic related

Car pass and VIP membership are worth it, if you have the money and liked either of the previous Horizon games I'd get it. It is NOT optimized well for PC AFAIK but the One version runs pretty well.
>>16306281

>>16306140
GM dealerships, until all the warranties run/ran out
As far as the OP goes, its basically a CRV with an accord engine.
Pic related, they even come in manual. I shit my pants when i popped the hood of one of these and saw a honda engine in the bay.
