American brands have a track record of lazy rebadges of garbage pile economy cars and selling them at an incredible markup. Even when they're not a rebadge they take an overwhelming amount of parts from the common bin. GM are a particularly bad offender in this regard. The Escalade is literally a reskinned Silverado with a cargo hatch and some extra doohickeys.

It's a budget BMW, and you're getting pretty much the best automatic for daily driving you can get nowadays (ZF 8HP). I think they went extinct partially due to how our fuel economy requirement system classifies them. Still mad at their death, fortunately G-body El Caminos are still fairly cheap.
